As the weekend got closer, my nerves about my first date began to take over every part of my brain. So by the time the night of the date arrived, I could barely think without feeling anxious. I didn't want to make it to obvious that this was the first date I had ever been on, so I decided to look at it as two friends hanging out, something that would put less pressure on me. Of course, I didn't actually think we were just friends and I hoped he didn't either.
He told me he would pick me up around 6 p.m., leaving us plenty of time to catch the 7 p.m. showing. I wasn't sure of how he would get there because I remembered he told me he didn't have a car, but I trusted him to figure it out.
I decided I'd dress casually, so I just slipped on a random, plain t-shirt and a pair of jeans. I just told my mom I was going to hang out with friends in case the date went horribly and he decided he no longer was intrigued by me.
To pass the remainder of the time after I finished getting ready, I went over to Chanyeol's house, which was only a few blocks down the street. The back door was unlocked, so I just walked right up to his room, finding him typing away on his laptop.
"Hey," I asked as I stepped into his room, leaving the door cracked a little. He looked over at me and smiled a little.
"Oh hey, Soo," he said. "I was just talking to someone from school." He faced the brightly lit small screen in front of him again as I sat on his bed beside his desk.
"Who?" I said, trying to keep myself distracted from my nerves.
"You know Baekhyun?" he asked me without looking at me.
"Yeah, I think he's friends with Kai."
"Right," he said and I immediately sensed a certain uneasiness in his voice. "Anyway, that's who."
"Oh, really," I said, grinning slightly as I nodded my head slowly.
Chanyeol looked at me and narrowed his eyes. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?" he asked in confusion.
"No reason," I replied, a tiny chuckle escaping. He narrowed his eyes at me once more suspiciously, shaking his head a little.
"What are you doing here anyway? I thought you had your date with what's his face tonight," he said, turning to look at the screen again.
"Kai, whose name I literally just said a second ago," I said. He just waved his hand briefly in the air. "I do. He should be here soon." His head nodded and I pulled out my phone to see a text from him. I smiled as I typed in my passcode and opened the message.
From: Kai Here :)Sent 6:00 p.m.
I stood up, shoving my phone back in my pocket after my reply went through. "Speaking of him, he just got here. I'll tell you about it at school, okay?" I said to Chanyeol as I headed toward his door.
"Can't wait," he said. The obvious sarcasm in his voice made me smile as I shook my head. I left his house and walked out through door I came in. I saw Kai leaning up against a car patiently when I made it out front. I walked over to him and he grinned when he noticed me.
"I thought your parents didn't trust you to drive," I said, coming to a halt in front of him.
"They don't, but luckily, Sehun's parents trust him to," he said. I laughed, shaking my head a little.
"I'm not so sure about this anymore. I mean, you're already lying to your parents because of me. I may be a bad influence," I replied half jokingly.
"Please, I've been lying to my parents since I discovered lying," he said with a quick roll of his eyes. "It's the only way you survive having overly religious parents." I just laughed again. "So ready to get our movie on?" A smile pulled on my mouth and I nodded.
He did as well as and opened the passenger's side door for me. I was just clicking in my seatbelt when he got into the driver's side and shut the door. He started the car up and then put his seatbelt on as well. He looked out at the side mirror to check for any cars coming up the street and pulled out when he saw it was clear.
"Want some music?" he asked, keeping his eyes intently on the road.
"Sure," I said, glancing at his hand it reached for the stereo.
"Here, you can pick whatever you want. The aux is in the glove compartment." He handed me his phone and leaned forward to open the compartment. I pulled the cord out and looked around for outlet to plug it into on the stereo. Once his phone was connected, I saw his playlist was already opened, so I just hit shuffle on that.
Within the next ten minutes, we arrived at the theater. He said he wanted to see the latest Conjuring movie and while I wasn't the biggest fan of scary movies, I decided I would brave through it. Plus, I figured I could just close my eyes during the scary parts.
"Do you want any popcorn?" Kai asked me as we approached the concession stand.
"Um...can I get nachos instead?" I replied cautiously.
He just nodded in response, a kind smile on his face. "Sure, you can get whatever you want," he said. I smiled back at him and then he ordered the tickets and snacks. We got everything within a few minutes of him paying and then made our way to the theatre after stopping to get our drinks.
Kai
We were about halfway through the movie and I was honestly pretty bored. The movie wasn't as scary as I was hoping expecting it to be, but I could tell Kyungsoo was slightly freaked out when I glanced over at him. I chuckled and pulled my phone out, lowering the brightness and then sending him a text.
To: Kyungsoo :)Liking the movie?Sent 8:32 p.m.
He pulled his phone out a few second after the message went through, trying to cover the brightness with his hand a little. He glanced at me and grinned before looking down and typing out a reply, which came in a minute or so later.
From: Kyungsoo :)The real answer or the I'm-just-trying-to-please-you answer?Sent 8:34 p.m.
To: Kyungsoo :)Surprise me lolSent 8:35 p.m.
From: Kyungsoo :)Maybe this whole religion thing is kind of usefulSent 8:36 p.m.
I smiled and laughed at his reply, glancing over to see him smiling back at me.
To: Kyungsoo :)Not as good as I was hoping it would be. Wanna get out of here?Sent 8:38 p.m.
From: Kyungsoo :)PleaseSent 8:39 p.m.
I chuckled again and then we both stood up, heading toward the exit.
"That was very underwhelming," I said after we were out in the hallway.
"If you think that was underwhelming, I don't ever want to see a movie you think is better," Kyungsoo said, earning another laugh from me.
"Okay, so not a fan of horror movies, note taken," I replied as we headed for the exit. "My, uh, parents are at a church meeting if you wanted to come over and watch a better movie?" His eyes widened a little, as if he was taken back by question. "I-I mean, you don't have to. I was just offering."
"No, I-I want to," he said after a few more seconds. I nodded, trying to control my smile, and then we went back to the car.
Chanyeol
Okay so....death by skydiving or death by drowning in a freezing cold ocean in the dead of winter?
I took another chip out of the plastic bag with a loud crumbling sound and waited for Baekhyun's response.
Skydiving definitely. I'd rather die cause my parachute malfunction. It'd be quicker than freezing to death.
Lol makes sense
Indeed lol. Hey... You wouldn't want to video chat, would you?
I was slightly taken aback by Baekhyun's question. I thought I would have been the one to ask.
You can say no...Just thought it would be better than all this typing lol
No, yeah I'm down. I'll FaceTime you :)
ok :)
I searched through my contacts and stopped once I found his, clicking the little video icon above his name.
"Hey, can you hear me? It's been a minute since I FaceTimed anyone on this," I said when I saw his face appear on the screen.
"Yeah, I can hear you," he replied, making me smile a little. "Thanks for doing this...my fingers were just getting pretty cramped."
"It's no problem. So what are you doing?"
"U-Uh, nothing exciting," he said. "I'm just trying to finish this song I'm writing." He held up a piece of sheet music in front of the webcam.
"You are writing a song? What's it about?"
"I don't know. It doesn't have lyrics yet. Still deciding if I want there to be lyrics simply because I suck at writing lyrics."
I chuckled at that. "Maybe I can help," I said, catching him by surprise. "My mom taught me guitar when I was a kid, so I've been kind of scribbling bits and pieces of lyrics ever since. I'm sure I would have something that matches."
"Really? Y-You'd help me?"
"Sure, why not? Us struggling musicians should help each other out."
Baekhyun just laughed softly and then nodded after a moment. "O-Okay," he said. "Just let me get my keyboard. It won't sound as good as it does on piano, but it'll do for now." He disappeared from my vision for a while then returned with a keyboard. He began playing it and I could hear it well enough from the computer's sound. "So what do you think? It's a lot better on the piano..."
"No, I liked it a lot," I said with a few nods. "It sounds sweet, whimsical almost. It sounds like first love if first love had a sound."
"You got all that from that little snippet?"
"Sure. You're a good writer, so it was easy to tell dissect."
"T-Thanks, I guess..." he said bashfully, glancing down briefly. "S-So do you think you can work with it? I can play you the full thing Monday if that's easier."
"Yeah, I'll see what I can cook up. Want to meet during lunch?"
"Sure, I'm usually in the music room anyway. I-I'll see you then I guess."
"Yeah, see you Monday." He waved a little and then we ended the call. I smiled to myself as I sat back in my chair.
I didn't know what this feeling was going on inside of me, but I was starting to like it.

Please keep me in your thoughts as I try to tackle the smut in the next chapter lol. All I'm saying is that if it magically disappears, don't be surprised.
