Chapter 80
23:57, 22 September 2023Author's P.O.V.News spread fast like lightning amongst the Olsens and the Beveridge family but never in public. Shannon and Lizzie are getting married is the single line that supports all of that. Friends and family gushes all day and the couple have been receiving texts, calls and voice messages all day, its like a press day for Elizabeth and Shannon's engagement just without the taped interviews and cameras flaunting themselves in front of them.
Shannon watches in awe as her fiancé talks gushingly over every phone call she receives. Screeches when the twins comes rushing in the room minutes after the million dollar yes, I will marry you rolls out so effortlessly from her lips. She watches her parents welcomed their soon to be daughter-in-law which doesn't even make sense to her since they already treat her as such. She listens to the never ending list of plans of the twins for their wedding since its kind of given that they would take over most of it.
Shannon smiles brightly, a smile she hasn't had on her face for quite some time, a smile that reaches her eyes and reflects on her insides waking up the butterflies to flutter in her heart. It wasn't because of the numerous plans and the multiple scenarios the twins are portraying in her mind right now. It wasn't because of her parents being happy about the news of her finally popping up the question. It was because of the fact that Elizabeth finally agreed to marry her and seeing her so happy about it, that was enough, it was enough to make her the happiest.
"You filmed it this whole time" Shannon snaps out of her daze to see the twins holding the cameras that were set up in her room earlier this day. She smiles and turns to Elizabeth who is clearly shocked that she didn't realized that she was being filmed.
"Oh yea, I did." Elizabeth shakes her head in disbelief as the twins got busy plugging the SD card on their laptop to watch how did the proposal went. Shannon shrugs walking towards her and giving her a kiss. The twins finally found the video and played it, a smile forming on Shannon's lips as they do so.
"You're not going to post this are you?" Elizabeth raised her head to look at Shannon. Elizabeth and Shannon's relationship being out in the public is the extent of that and even though Shannon's a bit out about her life doing vlogs sometimes for her content, she knows the limits of it and this very private and intimate moment exceeds that so she smiles and shake her head.
"No, its just for us. I just don't want to forget about it." Shannon sighs and turns her eyes back to the screen. There is something in her tone that makes Elizabeth and the twins scared, sad, confuse but tries to put that in the back of their minds and let the positivity conquer even for just this day.
"Have you told Trent?" Shannon asks
"Nope not yet—"
"I'll call him up." She placed one last kiss on top of Elizabeth's head and reach down to her pocket pulling out her phone. "I'll be at the porch." She smiled and Elizabeth nods, her eyes stuck on the screen rewatching a new core memory of hers.
Shannon's thumb hovers on the screen trying to compose what he's going to say to Trent since it will be the first time she would talk to him properly and not the usual 'thanks' and 'goodbye' she usually mutter every time they're together. She sighs and decided to just tell him straight away what she wants to say. She presses on the screen sending the phone to ring in her hand then she waits.
'Hello, Shan?' It was an urgent call. Since Trent had been with Shannon al throughout her recovery process while Elizabeth is away, she'd been closer to his heart since then even though she would completely ignore his presence every time. 'You alright bud?'
"Yes" She sighs. "I just want to tell you something." Shannon carefully sits down on the bench at their front porch and scans her eyes towards their neighborhood finding some kind of distraction from the fuzzy feeling in her hands and how nervous she seems right now finally talking to her soon to be brother-in-law.
"What is it?" The concern was obvious in Trent's voice and she can hear clearly just noticing now how he is with her and she's starting to figure out that she really maybe just ignoring the fact that he's been making it up to her for the past whole month. "The twins are there right, have you spoken to them?"
"I—" She starts trying to figure out what to say but then continues with a deep sigh and says. "I popped out the question."
"What?"
"We're getting married." It was silence then a surprising chuckle was heard from the other line that took out the dagger in Shannon's heart in an instant. She smiles as she hears him cheer up and probably tell his company about the news he just got.
"Wow! that's amazing. Oh my God, this is huge. It sucks I didn't get to see how it goes but I'm really so so so happy for the both of you!"
"I've hot it filmed don't worry. They're watching it currently in the kitchen."
"I would very gladly like to see that tape." He demands and chuckles which made Shannon start to feel at ease just talking to him again like how they used to talk before. "Ohh, hey. I'm really happy you told me about it."
"Yea" She smiles. "I think its just the right proper thing to do when her brother has almost been kind of a father like figure to her for the most years of her life and besides I consider him as mine as well since I really don't have one." She hears a soft chuckle then he turns quiet but she can hear him breathing heavily from the other line.
"You fucker, you're making me cry." Shannon laughs before swallowing the growing lump in her throat as well. Relief washes at both parties, thorns from the past burned down in a second and replaced by what was already there.
"Don't be such a baby"
"Fuck you." He sniffs and she giggles. "You owe me that fucking tape."
"I will have the twins send it to you as soon as they're finish gushing about it." Shannon smiles again but then the lingering feeling of having to apologize for her actions towards Trent is there so she tries to get it out and say.
"Hey Trent"
"Yea?"
"I'm sorry for—"
"Stop" He cuts off almost instantly. "whatever that happened and what led to it. I deserve the consequence of it. I'm just really happy that you're talking to me already and that you're fucking marrying my sister and I'm beyond grateful right now to be honest and I really missed you."
"I missed you too." It was an honest and sincere answer. She really did missed him. "I have one problem though."
"What is it?"
"I just realized, I need to face your Dad." Yes, she doesn't have a problem with anyone not even with the other Olsen siblings and their mother but with their dad, that a whole another story considering he hates her.
"We'll figure out something. Don't think about it too much it'll spoil the day. Hey, when you come back I'm expecting martinis going down into my system okay, or dinner, my place or your place whichever you prefer you call the shots okay. Anything." Trent rambles on how they should spent some time together when she comes back without the tension and awkwardness surrounding them and this made Shannon chuckle while her heart fills up with ease. It was working as to fading away the thoughts of her having to face their asshole of a father. Its making her feel good.
"Alright, alright. I'll text you when I get back." She giggles.
"Alright then. Anyway, I need to go. I'll text you later and maybe text Lizzie or just call her up later. Hey Shan?"
"Yea?"
"I'm sorry and I love you. I hope you know that."
"I do. I love you too you big baby." Shannon laughs again and Trent goes with it, over the moon to hearing her laugh again talking to him. It was a huge weight lifted off from Trent's chest and he felt renewed or something like that.
"Alright I have to go. Love you, bye." The phone call ends with no awkwardness and tension anymore. Its like nothing had happened and everything was forgotten and it was okay for her. Maybe this was a start of her moving forward with everything. Moving forward to a life with Elizabeth being her wife as they live peacefully in the comfort of their own home and maybe soon little Lizzies and Shannons are going to appear one by one until they've had enough with the noise they would create every morning trying to wake them up.
The thought made Shannon smile to herself. Its something that is possible and she's looking forward to it and promise herself to put into tape everything. Just in case.
I don't want to forget.
—————————-Two weeks had passed since the engagement. The set and crew knows about it already since Lizzie never took off the ring even when filming. It wasn't noticeable for the pictures paparazzi took during their shoot as a behind the scenes coverage since she wears it on a different finger while she's on set but she never did took it off. No speculations and no news yet from the special event of her life announced to the public and for some reason they were thankful of it. It gives them time to just savor the moment to themselves for the meantime.
Shannon's back in LA for about a week now to continue with her physical therapy and in a few days she might be walking without a crutch already. Her cast in her arm had already been removed now that its fully recovered. She might be good on returning to work in about a week or so since her presence is already needed on set.
Trent stayed true to his word and invited Shannon to have beers instead of martinis at a hidden bar in town. Shannon's been in LA for almost a quarter of her life and she had never heard of this place before and maybe it figures that Trent likes to drink a lot and now she finds herself sitting in dim lit bar with a few men around having some drinks and soft country music playing in the background kind of reminds her of home.
"Dad's birthday is next week." He starts. Shannon's issue on telling the father of her fiancé that she's marrying her daughter in sometime next year still lingers in the back of her mind every now and then and when it does, it starts to work her up even more.
"Yea, Elizabeth told me. I'm not quite sure if I'm invited though." She chuckles nervously before taking a chug of her beer having the constant thought of scenarios of David slamming her into a wall the moment he finds out about it.
"Of course you are." Trent's voice gives away because he himself too doesn't believe that. Shannon sniggers shaking her head gaining an apologetic look on her brother's face. "Well, Lizzie's not going if you won't and Dad is really expecting her to be there."
Shannon shrugs biting on a baby carrot trying to avoid the subject even though she knows that she should be dealing with this right now. Maybe this was the drinks all about really, them planning out how to get through that without 'something' happening again. "Your Dad fucking hates my guts Trent. I'm not what he wants. I bet Robbie will be there though and this thing will just turn into a huge hurricane leading us causing another whole fucking scene."
"Maybe it doesn't have to be that way."Shannon scoffs
"I doubt it." Trent shrugs. He knows his dad more and he knows he won't back out in something he clearly knows he's got a point in, like probably Elizabeth being with the wrong person.
"Shan." Trent eventually says in thought having to caught what she just said a while ago about Robbie being at his Dad's party and the thought of seeing him just makes his blood boil but the thought of Shannon going over to him after running away that day makes him so intrigued on what had happened. Shannon looks at him confused raising her brows waiting for him to spill what's in his mind.
"Why did you go to Robbie's that day." He asks cautiously watching as Shannon's brows furrows in thought looking away.
"I did?" Trent sighs maybe he would never get the answer to that. Clearly she doesn't remember.
"Yea, but don't worry about it. I was just curious." He took a gulp of his own beer and feed himself with some potato chips as he takes out his phone. Even though Trent decided to drop the subject Shannon's thoughts are on rewind trying her hardest to remember what had happened that day.
"How'd you know I went there?" She eventually asks and Trent looks up to see the thoughtful look on Shannon's face.
"Uhm, He called Lizzie said you were there. She didn't mention anything because she started telling us off and freaking out about on your whereabouts. Seriously Shan don't think too much about it. Anyway, if I saw Robbie at Dad's party, I'm out. I might pull the hair out his face if I'd stay longer. I don't want to cause a scene too. But if he would ask for it then maybe I would."
"That would be a must watch." Shannon laughs thinking about it and Trent joins him giving a light ease around them. It was the best Trent have felt around Shannon so far after days of torture given the cold shoulder she's been giving her.
They stayed talking and laughing catching up on things they've missed for hours, but hours feels like minutes and they didn't even noticed the time until Shannon's phone buzzes with messages from Elizabeth that she had noticed that they've been at the bar for nearly four hours already with four bottle of beers in each side of the table. Yep they were getting drunk.
"I think we're having too much fun don't we?" Shannon looks up from her phone and drunkenly smiles at Trent who laughs agreeing with her. Another buzz in her hand and now the phone is ringing with Elizabeth's name flashing across the screen like a wake up call. She answers.
"Where the fuck are you? Why aren't you answering my texts and calls? Is Trent still with you? God—"
"Hey hey slow down Lizzie, my mind can't keep up." She slurs then giggles. On the other hand, Elizabeth sighs pinching the crook of her nose having to figure out that her lover is drunk and she probably have a clue on who to blame for it.
"Right" She mutters.
"Hi my love, how was your day?" Shannon's soft voice though made her lips curved into a small smile before rolling her eyes at Shannon's way to somehow ease her up every time she knows she's in trouble.
"Where's Trent?"
"Oh, he's in front of me." She chuckles. "Oh wasn't I suppose to say that." Hearing that just confirms the culprit.
"Is there someone sober I can talk to?"
"I am sober sweetheart." Shannon hiccups and chuckles making Elizabeth roll her eyes again.
"Yea right, I can tell." She grunts. "Where are you?" Shannon gives the address surprisingly on full detail and even Trent was feeling so proud of her by the time she finishes, even describing what the door looks like.
"I would have Jake pick you up right at this moment and I would have maybe a word with Trent can you hand him the phone." Shannon didn't speak and hands her phone to Trent who looks at her wide eyed, obviously he's in so much trouble right now, but with the amount of alcohol running in his system he takes the phone in Shannon's hands and brings it up to his ear before saying "Sup sis?"
Shannon looks around the place while Trent is probably having an awful earful from Elizabeth. She reaches in her bag remembering she brought a film camera, something she always does have.
I don't want to forget.
The thought stands still, strong in her mind. She's holding to it. Well, based on Dr. Hampton's diagnosis, she might someday, maybe years later or soon enough, they don't know. But there is a high risk because her head already took enough damage to have that. So every moment counts. It seems like every little thing matters now, because she wouldn't know maybe tomorrow she won't remember any of it and that thought scares her to the bone.
She starts snapping photos of the place and even a troubled face Trent on the phone, laughing as she do so. She can't forget this moment. She refuse to and even though fate would still force her to, at least there is something she would go back to and maybe for a split second she would remember.
"Stop it." Trent chuckles then straightens up. "No not you—" He groans and Shannon laughs again. This made Trent smile and looks up to Shannon who is currently still taking photos of the place, practically fading out Elizabeth's voice ringing in his ear. He was glad Shannon was slowly coming back, slowly growing to the person she was before. It makes his heart satisfied just watching her today. Little did he know, there was a reason behind that smile, that laughter, the glint in her blue eyes. A sad truth that is currently being covered up with a thin layer of reverie and soon enough it will uncover itself without any warning.
"Hey sis?" He whispers cutting whatever Elizabeth is saying to him.
"What! Are you even fucking listening to me?" He sighs and glanced at Shannon again.
"She's good you know?" Elizabeth didn't respond instead it instantly calmed her down. "She's taking pictures and laughing." Trent says softly and he doubts Shannon could hear her, she's too lost in her own world to even care about him right now. "Don't worry, I'm not that drunk. I have your security head's number. I'll text him to pick us up so we can go home safe."
"Good." Elizabeth whispers calmly. "I'll call Jake too tell him where you are."
"Alright then." Elizabeth smiles and bites her lip being a bit emotional and she doesn't even know why. Maybe from the exhaustion of work and emotional range of it or maybe the relief of hearing Shannon being in a good condition which rarely happens nowadays or maybe both. She misses her too much and can't wait a week longer till Shannon come back to Texas for work and they would finally see each other and be together.
"Can you hand her back the phone?" She whispers and Trent did so catching Shannon's attention as she takes the phone from him.
"Hi my love." She giggles and the first tear fell from Elizabeth's eye, her hand flying to her cheeks to wipe it away. They ended up talking for quite sometime, well most of the talking is coming from the LA side of the phone call and Elizabeth is actually very entertained by this. It makes her heart flutter in awe. Now its making her miss her lover even more. A few moments come in and Jake appears by the entrance not quite surprise by the sight of an obvious drunk Shannon and a slight tipsy Trent.
"Well I'm really not that— Oh hi Jake!" She says letting Elizabeth know that her security head is already on location and that sends her so much relief. Shannon chuckles and repeats it over the phone saying.
"Lizzie Jake's here. Did you call him up?"
"Oh baby" Elizabeth chuckles. "How would I call him up if I am currently and still talking to you?"
"Oh right." Shannon giggles. "I think we need to go baby. Go have some rest yea. I love you." She adds sending too much kisses over the phone making Elizabeth giggles, her mind playing an image of Shannon actually making out with her phone. That's how chaotic she can get when she's so drunk.
"I love you too. I'll have Trent or Jake text me when you get home. Now go ahead. I love you. Bye."
"Bye bye Lizzie." She giggles and that's when the call ends. Smiling to herself she looks up to see both men staring at her with smiles on their faces. So she takes a photo all of a sudden, the flash of the camera blinding their eyes.
"Ha! that's what you get for staring." She chuckles
"Right, we need to go, you're going to feel that later on you dumbass." Trent says forcing Shannon to get up on her feet stumbling as she do so. She just laughs even though she knows the terrifying headache she's going to go through later on.
