I

"Y/N! Wake up! Today's the big day!" Dominik said, shaking me awake. "Huh?" I asked, still half asleep and rubbing my eyes. "Just get up, breakfast is ready. I'm sure you'll remember by the time you're downstairs." Dominik said, mumbling the last part and leaving my room. After about 5 minutes, I forced myself off the bed and looked into the mirror. My mind was blank for a few seconds until it finally hit me. "Mom is coming home!" I yelled, nervously. Marcus punched his wall, that was next to mine. Our family has a pretty good way communicating without coming out of our room, we punch our walls in morse code.

.-.. . - / -- . / ... .-.. . . .--.

'Let me sleep'

I sighed and rolled my eyes, sending back 'sorry'.

Luckily, I had already knitted a cloak in mom's favorite color. At least from what I remember it being. It was a green cloak; I would wear a white cropped polo with a long black silky skirt. The cloak had black and white animals knitted into it. I smiled at myself in the mirror. "Y/N! Hurry up, your food's getting cold!" Dominik screamed to me, as I rushed out of my room. I saw Marcus leaving at the same time I did.

"Did I let you sleep well?" I said, in a slightly sarcastic tone. "Nope. My ears started ringing so I got up." Marcus said, rubbing his eyes and gliding down the stairs railing as I followed. "I wonder what mom is going to do this summer." I said, mostly just happy school had gotten out. Dominik was looking out the window while I sat into my seat. "Well, I see somebody is trying extra hard to impress mom." Damien said, while I punched my fork into the eggs. "I'm only trying to at least grow a bond with her, I mean, we only see her once every year. And that's for 3 months." I said, and Dominik turned around. "That would mean we see her every..." Dominik began, before pausing to think. "Every 9 months." He finished and continued looking outside.

"What're you looking for anyways?" Marcus said while washing his plate. "Waiting for mom to get here." Damien replied, looking at Marcus from the corner of his eye. "Mom isn't going to be here till dark." Marcus replied, turning the faucet. "So if any of you guys go out today be back at sunset." Marcus said, firmly. "Don't worry, you can still sneak off at 2 in the morning just try and be back during the time that mom is awake."

"Okay, well, I'm meeting up with Monika anyways, so I've got to go." I replied as I quickly washed my plate and ran through the door.

Monika and Ruben were waiting at our usual spot: the abandoned house. In the city, there's this house that got abandoned that everyone thinks an old lady is living in, but nobody is actually here. So, we claimed the house before somebody figured it out. If anyone asked why we were here, we'd say we're house sitting for the lady.

"Took you long enough." Monika said, raising an eyebrow. "Yeah, my brothers started conversation." I replied, looking at the ground. "Hey, what's wrong?" Monika asked, actually concerned. "Yeah, you seem more sad than usual." Ruben added. "I don't know, my mom is coming back, and so many emotions are going through my body." I said, quickly. Ruben and Monika had me sit down, leaning against one of the walls.

"After the fight we had, I don't know if she'll want to see me." I said, trying my best not to cry as it would ruin my perfect makeup.

"It's a long plane ride from Russia to New York, I'm sure if she didn't want to see you, she wouldn't have come here." Ruben said, sympathetically patting me on the back. I looked out the window to see the sun falling. "Well, wish me luck." I said, before doing our handshake and walking back to my house.

I looked up and down the sleek dark wood door, and I gulped. I was terrified. The last time I saw my mother she flipped out in Russian and left before sunset even hit. She broke 2 windows, 3 wine bottles, and 7 plates. She was mad at me since I had used coconut in the food, forgetting she was allergic. I don't know how she'll react to me now, but I hope it's better.

I sighed and pushed open the door, as the sky changed from a blue and pink to a red. "Took you long enough." Dominik said to me, taking off his cooking mittens. "Yeah, is mom here?" I asked looking around the house without seeing my mother. "She's in the bathroom." Marcus replied, picking up the plates and placing them out.

"I'm back! Oh Y/N! You look so different!" Mom said, happily.

I smiled, because I thought she'd be mad.

"Come on let's eat. I need to to talk to you kids." Mom said, changing her voice to be more stern.I gulped

We sat down and I stabbed my fork into my steak. "So you guys know about my history with your father, right?" Mom asked and Marcus slightly choked. "Yeah, the terrible guy you tell us about all the time?" Marcus said, placing his water down. "Yeah him. So I've been in contact with him lately." My mother said. "Don't you hate him?" Dominik interrupted. My mother looked over at him with a scowl.

"Yes, but I think it's time you meet him." She said, calmly to try and configure our opinions before even hearing them.

After what felt like hours of silence, Damien said "What." More of a statement rather than a question. "Yeah, from what you told me, why do you think I'd even want to see him?" I asked swallowing my steak down. My brothers agreed but my mother wasn't having it.

"I don't care what you guys say, you need to at least meet him." My mother said, pulling something out of her purse. "Your plane tickets are already paid for, so you don't have a choice." She said as she handed us our tickets. "The plane doesn't leave until Sunday, and it's Friday, so you have time to pack. We're going to a small town in Colombia called Encanto. They have an... interesting family. So don't get intimidated when you meet them." Mother said, also pulling out pictures of this town.

"You think we'll be intimidated by them? I don't care if they're literally Superman, I'm not getting intimidated." Dominik commented. "They have powers." My mom said.

"What do you mean, powers?" Damien asked, leaning in slightly. "Their family got a gift and they all got powers." My mom explained, moving her hands in the motions of her words.

After a bit more of an explanation, we all understood.

"Don't worry, mom, we'll be perfectly fine." I said, trying to fix up Dominik's mistakes while taking the plates to the sink.

"I'm gonna head up to bed so I can sleep on this, night." Marcus said from the staircase. "Night." Dominik said.

I walked up to my own room and laid onto my bed. I heard a knock. "Come in." I said, as Marcus came in.

"I can't be the only one who's nervous about seeing dad and his family. Not the power thing, just what we've heard about him." Marcus said, sitting on my bed.

"Yeah, I'm sure it'll be okay." I told him, getting up to sit next to him. He began crying.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked, putting my hand on his back. "I've met dad before." He said, and my eyes widened.

"What do you mean?" I asked as he looked at me.

"Let me tell you the whole story..." Marcus began, turning his whole body to face me and resting his hand on his leg.
