Chapter 30
06:02, 9 April 2023Blake needed to come up with a way to find Conroy, but stealthily. She didn't really know him, but she needed to kill him in order to survive. Blake decides to navigate to the cornucopia. She left the area where Ottilie's body was found, the imprint of her was still in the grass. Blake faces the other direction, she needs to move on. She tramples through the dead forest, not caring if a branch scratches her along the way. The wounds on her body wouldn't even compare to a scratch. Blake remembers when her knee would get scratched up from tripping or falling down, her younger self wouldn't be able to handle something like this. Suddenly, a voice came from up above.
"Attention tributes, please make your way to the cornucopia within 4 minutes. If you don't you will automatically be eliminated." The voice sounded serious and deep, the man was worried or trying to worry them. A clock started to tick, meaning she needs to hurry. Blake hustles through the woods, not worrying about anything else but getting to the cornucopia without dying. When the woods ended, there were several sand dunes that made it difficult to see the cornucopia. Blake desperately climbs up the dune. IT seems that she is climbing for nothing, until she spots the middle. She had 50 seconds left. She thinks impulsively, she rolls down the hill. Blake closes her eyes as she continues to roll, the sand biting at her skin. She finally arrives at the bottom of the dune. Blake runs as fast as she can, tripping in the process. 20 seconds left. She could see a silver figure in front of her, she collapses onto it, hoping it is what she is thinking of. Her eyes wouldn't adjust to the area, it hurt to open them.
"Blake..." an innocent male voice called out to her, Conroy. Blake knew he had a knife, she was prepared for the worst.
"Hey, Conroy." she mumbles just loud enough for him to hear her breathy hoarse voice. Little did she know that he has tears streaming down his face.
"I-I want you to kill me" He says, shaking. Blake's eyes shot open, surprised by his request. Blake clutches her side as she tries to stand up so she is face to face with the suicidal boy.
"Conroy, you don't mean that." Blake responds, confused.
"No, I do. I can't bring myself to kill you. I haven't killed anyone, and I want to keep it that way. You deserve to live." Conroy put the knife firmly into Blake's hand. The knife felt foreign to her, she didn't know if it was from losing too much blood or if she is just overtired.
"You have so much to live for too. I am weak, I have lost a lot of blood. I probably won't survive anyways" Blake couldn't believe the words coming out of her mouth. She wants to live and get out of here. Conroy is younger, he has a life to live.
"Blake, please" he runs his hands through his hair nervously. He paces several times before coming up with a conclusion.
"Fine, if you won't I will." He tries to get a hold of the knife from Blake's hand, but Blake jerks it back.
"Conroy, stop!" she exclaims, Conroy still trying to take the knife away. Blake jerks the knife back to her and Conroy falls on top of it, stabbing him in the abdomen. She could feel the blood seep down her hand, soaking and staining it red.
"Conroy!" Blake lays him on the ground and slowly pulls out the knife. She tosses it to the side and uses her jacket to cover his wound. His blood just stained and soaked the jacket. Blake keeps on applying pressure.
"Hey, stay with me! Don't you dare fade out! You need to live so you can go home and see your family." Blake's eyes become wet; she sets her head on his chest, hating to have to give up.
"What family?" He whispers slightly. His eyes close, his pain drowns him to death. Blake could no longer hear his heartbeat or him breathing. Blake sits up swiftly.
"No! No! No!" Blake begins to place her hands on top of each other, then placing her hands on his chest. She starts CPR; she presses fast, not caring about tempo.
"Come on! Come on!" Blake begs. Suddenly, the final cannon signals.
"No..." she looks down at Conroy's body, lifeless and bloody. She hates the way he died, no one deserves to die in order for entertainment. She let out a loud cry, she did it. She would be able to go home. She would be able to see her parents and her brothers. And Finnick.
"Attention everyone, I present the winner of the 68th Annual Hunger Games." A loud male voice echos. Blake could also hear a carrier from above. Her eyes became heavy, but she had to stay awake.
"Miss Grey, come with us" A soldier beckons. She stands up, trying to keep her balance. She is just five feet from the carrier, the wind from the carrier was strong. Blake trips on a rock, and collapses to the ground. She goes out cold.
