Chapter 20

06:09, 19 April 2022

"You two were spectacular! Though I couldn't figure out why Caesar was so obsessed with your length of hair" The mustard lady exclaimed. Blake tensed, she tried to wash out the thought. The escort kept staring at her exposed cleavage. Blake looked down with insecurity, she hated the fact that she had to show more skin than she should. She wrapped her arms around her chest to cover it up.

"It was interesting all right," Blake admitted.

What would her family think of her? Would they call her a "slut" if she sees them again?

"I'm gonna change..." Blake walks to her room to take a shower. She could hear Koland say something similar behind her.

After their showers, they sat at the dining room table, having a late dinner. The food was spectacular, they were really trying to fatten up the tributes before they left for the arena. Everyone was seated around the table, then Finnick spoke.

"Tomorrow, I'm going to take each of you down to the training center. What times would you like? Since we are district four, we get the opportunity to choose earlier. You get a half hour from this list, which time were you thinking?" He pulls out a tablet that shoots a screen into the air. It displayed multiple slots, districts 1-3 had already chosen.

"I'll take 9:30 am," Koland smiled. It was the time right before Serpen, an obvious choice for him. Blake examined all of the choices, did she want an earlier time, or a later time?

"I'll do 7:30 pm, I will get a good sleep and I will have all day to prepare." Finnick nodded and typed her name into the tablet screen. He shut it off then placed it to the side so he wouldn't get food on it. The district four crew then enjoyed their meal, before going to bed.

Blake arose the next morning with the sun gazing down on her. The heat felt great on her face. She wasn't sure what exactly she planned on doing today, probably exploring the tribute center. She put on a pair of green sweatpants and a black long sleeve sports top, she tied her hair back right after into a ponytail. She exited her room into the kitchen. It was 9:45, Finnick and Koland were already in the training center. Blake stole a piece of bacon off the table and ran to the elevator. She pressed the 'down' button on the outside. She entered and pushed 'floor zero'. She felt the drop beneath her feet. The brunette was now in the lobby, she could see hoards of colors gathered outside the door. A blue haired woman rushed over to her.

"Miss Grey, you can't be down here. Please go, you are stirring up the paparazzi." Blake nodded and ran back into the elevator. Where was she supposed to go then? She didn't want to stay on her floor the entire day. She decided to go to the rooftop instead. It felt like ages as she went up, finally she was there. She walked over to the edge of the building, everything looked so small from her view.

It was 7:25 pm. Finnick had found Blake in her room, just staring out the window.

"Blake, it's time." Blake got off her bed, then walked to the door. Tomorrow, she could be dead. A big pit was dragging her down. No more family, no more friends, none of it. She had a blast spending, possibly her last days alive. The two finally reached the training center. They enter, Finnick leads her to the mats.

"Let's make up a scenario, you are unarmed and so am I. We encounter each other, now we fight." Finnick says. Blake follows his instructions. She throws a few fists to his face, but he blocks them. She tries to wrap her legs around his to bring him to the floor, Blake was unsuccessful. He sends her a punch to the stomach, making her lose her breath.

"Are you okay?" he asks impatiently.

"Yeah," Blake nods heavily. They continue to battle, he grabs her waist, to pull her to the ground. His thumb connects with Blake's flesh, sending tingles down her back. She twists her body around, their backs facing each other. Her hands grab his, Finnick tenses up, he drowns in her emerald eyes. Blake smiles, She flips him over her, his stomach connects with the floor harshly. Blake gasps as he struggles to stand.

"I'm so sorry!" She helps him get to his feet. He instead, pulls her to the mat, he hovers on top of her. Their eyes staring into each other. Blake's smile turns into a frown, it reminds her that she might not see him again. Her crush, her best friend. Their lips could have collided at any moment. Blake decided to end the staring, she playfully pushes him off of her. It was 8:00, they better head back so the next tribute can train.

"Looks like we better head back," Blake says. Finnick agreed. They chatted as they found their way back to their floor. The mustard lady and Koland were watching some capital fashion show. Koland was exhausted from listening to the lady's voice.

"Well, you two should get some rest, you both have a big day tomorrow! Gosh, Blake. You smell like a wet dog! Ugh, go shower immediately!" The lady exclaimed. Blake groaned, but followed orders. She entered her bathroom, staring at her reflection in the mirror. She hated the fact that the capital cared about looks, especially hair. Do it, her mind told her. Defy the capital, take away the thing that they love most about you, Her mind echoed. Blake grabbed scissors out of the drawer. They were blue, they had a device on them to protect the tributes. One of them tried to kill themself with the scissors to escape the games. This wasn't Blake's motive, she wanted to change, to show that the capital doesn't control her. She grips her hair on the left side, one cut can change everything. Blake wanted to make it uneven, to make it harder on her stylist. The scissors clip through her hair smoothly, her hair was beneath her ears. Time for the other side, it became somewhat symmetrical. She then walked into the shower to wash off any stray hairs. Blake's stylist was going to be pissed. The brunette smirked, she liked chaos.
