IV
00:03, 5 June 2023With my hair finally dryed, I slipped into grey tank top and olive green cargo shorts, throwing on an old shirt I 'borrowed from my best friend, key word 'borrowed' and putting on my combat boots. After I shut the front door I walk up to my motorbike and get on, turning on the machine and taking off to see my other baby.
The wind blew my light-brown hair back, cooling my skin after the hot shower I had on this hot island. I stopped and parked in front of the big paddock, watching for a while workers working on highering the walls of the paddock. Inza isn't even her full size and she's still qrowing. She's even bigger than Rexy. What else did they made her of? I would like to know.
I walked into the room from where you can see into the paddock and Inza if she decides to show up, greeting the chubby worker sitting behind the table and having his 'eyes' on Inza.
"So, any problems at night?" I put my hands on my hips, looking around the paddock to spot the hybrid dinosaur. The worker shook his head.
"Not at all. Only that it tried to break the glass." And he pointed to the part where the window is cracked. Huh, I didn't even noticed that. Walking over, I crouched down in front of it with frown and gently ran my finger bellys over the broken glass, being careful not to cut myself. What was on her mind to do this?
"Alright, I'm going in." I straightened up, running my thights. The worker shook his head at me, probably still wondering how can I work with these carnivore creatures and opened the door for me. I walk inside the paddock and the door closed after me.
I tried to find the hybrid, keeping on mind she can camouflage to which I narrowed my eyes at everything that moved. Where are you? I know you are here. Where else should you be?
"Inza! Come out! Come out! Wherever you are." I called out into the jungle, waiting for sound or movoment as response. I know she knows I'm here. She would recognize my smell from afar and so I'm sure she's watching me right now, but from where. How smart is this one? Very smart.
Growling came from behind me and I spun on my heels to face jungle again. However not a little longer some of the leaves started to move and then she stopped hiding, revealing her white scaled body in all her glory.
"Hey, girl. You're getting better and better at hiding. I couldn't find you at first. Good job." I gave her a big smile, having to tilt my head back to look at her. She chirped, proud of herself and lowered her head down a little too quickly, startling me for a second. She's dangerous one, I can tell, and I'm never really sure what will her next moves be but I put in her my trust.
I patted her head when she pulled closer to me.
"But I have a question for you." Inza pulled away to look at me with tilt of her head, waiting for me to continue. "What is this?" And I point at the broken glass.
"Inza we talked about this. No breaking glass. You understand? No broken glass. I don't want them to take you away from me. And I assure you I will never let anyone do that. But you have to control yourself." My voice softened, not wanting to think about how it would be if they took Inza away from me. Oh, I would so go on killing spree if they did.
Inza frowned from what I picked on the change of her features and she roared at me, at which I had to cover my ears. She has one mighty roar, but Rexy has better. (don't tell Inza) I know she don't like being told what to do but someone has to put her in place.
When she stopped roaring, I gave her bored look. "Are you done? Hey!" She huffed, using her tail to swipe leaves and dirt at me, to which I gave her offended look.
"Alright, you want it this way? Let's play 'Catch the Snack'." And I ran to grab a big piece of meat with which I then ran away from Inza.
🦖
I wandered around the main building, looking for the red head I call my boss and friend. She said to meet her by the lab, so where is she? Tapping my foot inpatiently, my eyebrows lift up at the sight of the woman in white.
"Claire!" She turned and make her way towards me with clicking sound, my eyes fall on her heels. Those damn heels. When she reached me, she leaned back in disgust.
"I thought I told you to shower." Her stern gaze has no affect on me, it does on others. I'm too much lazy to care what other people think about how I smell. If you don't like my smell, don't smell me then.
"You did, and I did take a shower but went to check on Inza and was too lazy to take another shower." She rolled eyes at my goofy grin. I love annoying her. "Speaking of Inza, she tried to break the glass."
Claire narrowed her eyes at me, a shocked expresion on her face. "It what?!" Like always I decided to ignore the fact she and everyone else call her and other dinosaurs 'it' like they're something unimportant and nodded simply.
"Yeah. But don't worry, I scolded her already." I paused. "Anyway, why do I need to meet your nephews? How old are they even?"
Claire froze, looking down nervously while trying to remember. "They're-uh, I don't know. Gray, the smaller one is like, ehm-, eight? And Zach, he's-uh, he's twelve, I guess."
I give Claire an unbelievable look. "Wow, you don't even remember how old your nephews are? That's a little cruel even for you, you know?" I can't halp but chuckle, finding it ridiculous. Claire shook her head, turning on her high heels and walking off, me of course trailing after her.
"I haven't been with them for a long time. Gray was only a toodler when I last visited them." I hummed in response to Claire, shrugging my shoulders.
"Still it's a little harsh. You didn't answer my question." I turn half of my body to face her, never stopping walking.
"What question?"
"Why do I need to meet them? It's not like I'll babysit them or something." I rolled my eyes at the thought of having to watch over two little kids.
"Gray is a big fan of yours and your uncle and I promised him I get him to meet you." She said it so determinated like it was obvious. My jaw dropped, annoyed.
"Claire-" I started and she turned to me, stopping us both in walking.
"Jane, please, it's for few minutes, then you can go do whatever you want. Please, do it for me." She plead, a begging look on her face. I hesitated at first, deciding if I want to be meeting new people. Especially kids. In the end I groaned in defeat.
"Finee, but you owe me." She smiled.
"Thank you." And we continued in our way, reaching the stairs.
"So I'm now what? A celebrity that's supposed to give people autographs and be chased by paparazzi? No, thank you." Throwing my arms into the air dramatically, Claire laughed a little. She was about to say something when a voice of a young boy interrupt her.
"Aunt Claire!" We looked on the lower floor, seeing a boy around twelve wave his arms rapidly at us.
"Gray." Claire called back, walking down the stairs with grin while I followed after her. When we reached the boy, he threw his arms around Claire's middle, startling her. She's not very hugging person.
"Hi. Oh, oh my gosh, you're so sweet." She claimed. Another boy walked up to the two, having his hands shoved into pockets and bored look on his face. He looks to be around seventeen. If that younger one is Gray, then this one must be Zach. Totally eight and twelve.
"Woah, Zach. Last time I saw you you were like..." Claire started, trying to show with her hand the height she remember Zach was when they seen each other last time. "That must be what? Three, four years ago?"
I snicker in laughter from background, still on the stairs. "Uh, seven. Seven years, but you know, close." Zach correct her, giving her ironic look.
"Yeah, they are totally eight and twelve." The two younger boy turned their gaze towards me when I walked out from behind Claire with hands shoved in my back pockets, smirking at her from amusement which she sent daggers at me.
"Gray, Zach, this is my co-worker and our t-rex trainer, Jane Grant. Jane, Zach and Gray." She introduces me to them and pointed at who is who, even though I already figured out which one is which.
I turned to the boys, the younger one watching me with big eyes while the other one having a puzzled look. I stretch out my arm towards them for hand shake. "Nice to meet you." Instead of shaking my hand, Gray threw himself around my middle, startling me twice times worse than Claire. I didn't expect this.
"Oh my god! I'm big fan of yours!" He pulled away, wearing big happy grin on his cute face. "I read your uncle's book. Is it true you were only seven-years-old when you survived the first original park?"
I can't bring myself to answer to this sudden personal question. My mind flashed back to my uncle and the time when we barely survived Jurassic Park which I remember clearly against the fact I was only seven at the time. My mouth opened and closed like a fish, no words coming out. When I found the right words how to respond, my phone in my back pocket buzzed. "Excuse me." I picked up, pressing it against my ear.
"What is it?" I start.
"Hello to you too, pretty lady. Anyway, come to girls' paddock, like, right now." From the other side you can hear my best friend ever since I started school, using one of his nicknames for me with seductive voice. Usual.
"Yeah, and why is that?" I did the same with my voice, sweet and flirty. Other people would think we simp for each other or are dating but just to inform you, this is our usual. We're the best friends that likes to fight, flirt and laugh at every single stuff. He's my only true friend that never abandoned me and i can't wish for someone else.
"Because I'm bored." He said it like it's the most obvious thing in the world.
"You have your girls with yourself and Berry as well. Aren't they enough?" I tried to wriggle out of this, not wanting to travel anywhere else and just go to see Rexy again.
"No, they're not. With you is much bigger fun." A laugh escaped me when I heard Berry in the background yell "I heard that!".
"Do I have a choice?" I groan, knowing even though if I didn't come over, he would come pick me up and drag me somewhere to hang out. He did that hundred times and once almost took his life when he tried to get me from Rexy's paddock.
"Nope. So get your ass here or I'm coming for you." His threatening voice has no affect on me and he hang up, leaving me to sigh tiredly. I shove my phone back into back pocket of my cargo shorts and walk back up to Claire and her nephews, Zara now standing behind them.
"Sorry I can't spend more time with you guys and answer you questions but I have somewhere to go. It was nice knowing you, though. Bye!" After informing them I'm needed somewhere else, I turn around and yell back to them before disappearing from their sight.
