"YO STUPID ASS GONE GET CAUGHT UP," Jeremiah ran a hand down his face laughing as we walked into our university class. Somehow ian never took the class and this nigga failed the shit so I just decided to take it with him. This is my favorite class so far this semester.
"Shut yo bitch ass up, I won't get caught," I nudge him while shaking my head. We sit near the back. Maybe this our problem, all we do is talk we don't listen. "Man 50 dollars says you'll blow it, Elizabeth will dump you, and your auntie gonna leave you," Ricardo, one of Jeremiah's homeboys said which made me scrunch up at the word auntie. I keep forgetting about that shit.
Clover never felt like an auntie when I was younger more like a woman my mom would hangout with and I'd walk by and say nothing. She was a ghost to me until now. "Why you even here? Ain't you got a class to go to?"
"Don't be mad that you finna lose both yo hoes. At least pass over your auntie for me," Ricardo winked and I clenched my jaw while Jeremiah let out a loud laugh, slapping his knee like this was the funniest thing he heard all week.
"Man, shut the fuck up," I muttered, shaking my head as I pulled out my notebook, trying to ignore him.
Ricardo smirked, leaning back in his chair like he had all the time in the world to piss me off. "You know she fine, bro. You might as well—"
Before he could finish that dumbass sentence, I shot him a glare that wiped the grin off his face. "Don't even finish that thought."
Jeremiah snickered. "He mad mad."
I ignored them both as the professor walked in, setting her laptop on the podium. The noise in the room died down a little, but Jeremiah and Ricardo were still whispering like high schoolers.
My phone vibrated in my pocket, and when I pulled it out, Elizabeth's name lit up the screen. I hesitated for half a second before unlocking it.
Elizabeth: You busy?
I glanced up at the professor before typing back.
Me: In class. Wassuh?
Her reply came quick.
Elizabeth: We need to talk.
I exhaled sharply, already knowing this wasn't finna be good. I stared at the message for a second before locking my phone and putting it back in my pants. Jeremiah caught my expression and smirked. "Uh oh."
"Shut up."
Ricardo chuckled under his breath. "Fifty dollars looking real good right now."
The professor started lecturing, but my mind was somewhere else. Every time Eliza wanna talk it always ends up in the an argument.. and she loves to argue.
Jeremiah tapped his pen against his notebook, watching me like I was a ticking time bomb. "Bet she dumping you," he whispered.
I shot him a look. "Bet you gon' fail this class—again."
He laughed like I wasn't deadass.
Ricardo leaned in, his voice low. "Man, why you even stressin? You already knew this was coming. You ain't exactly boyfriend of the year."
I gritted my teeth, ignoring him. It wasn't like I ain't know I had flaws, but hearing him say it? That nigga want me to beat his ass. Eliza and I have been together since sophomore year of high school and it's been a good relationship.. a real one. Something raw— I love her. But I think we're not meant to be nomo.
The professor's voice faded into the background. I picked up my phone, trippin thinking it was vibrating from Elizabeth but nothin came.
I feel like this bitch caught me, I'm trippin bad. Maybe she just wanted to talk about some dumb shit. Maybe—
My phone vibrated again.
Elizabeth: Meet me at the library after class?
I sighed, running a hand down my face. This shit got me overthinkin. I could already hear Jeremiah and Ricardo talking shit the second I stood up.
Jeremiah peeked over my shoulder, reading the message before I could stop him. "Damn," he whispered. "She gon do it in public? She cold."
I elbowed him. "Stay out my business."
He just grinned. "Too late for that."
The rest of class dragged. I don't give a fuck about the shit the professor talking bout. When the lecture finally ended, I shoved my notebook into my bag and stood up.
"Y'all done?" I asked, looking between the two of them.
Ricardo stretched like he ain't have a care in the world. "Man, I'm chillin. But you? You might wanna hit up your auntie for some advice on heartbreak."
I clenched my jaw. "You really tryna get hit today, huh?"
Jeremiah laughed, slinging his arm around my shoulder as we walked out. "C'mon, man, just take the L with grace."
I shrugged him off, not in the mood. I had bigger shit to worry about. And if Eliza dump me before I can have a heart to heart, imma be pissed.
