XVI: The Talk

20:30, 24 August 2014

... Almost.

"So, Hermione, guess where our little Rosie was sitting today in class." Ron said and immediately Rose blushed a brilliant shade of scarlet that rivalled the colour of her hair. Hermione raised one eyebrow at Ron, quizzically and then, looking at Rose, said, "Where were you sitting, Rose?"

"I was sitting with—" Rose began mumbling but was interrupted by—

"Scorpius Malfoy!" Ron said, flamboyantly, interrupting Rose. She flushed again and Hermione's eyebrows shot up.

"Is that right?" Hermione asked, even though Rose could tell it was more accusatory than quizzical.

"Is what right?" Ginny asked, joining the conversation.

"That our Rosie chose to sit next to Scorpius Malfoy during DADA." Ron said.

"Really?" Ginny said, looking at Rose curiously. Rose didn't know how to respond to that.

"Well of course! It is imperative that the Heads of Hogwarts sit together whenever they have classes together!" Albus exclaimed, coming to Rose's rescue. All eyes turned to face him and then they turned back to look at Rose. She nodded furiously in agreement and shot Albus a look of gratitude when the adults weren't looking. Then Ron said, "Well. That's settled then. Mione I think it's time to have the talk with her."

"Are you sure?"

"She's an adult witch now. I think she can handle it." Ron said.

"But she's my baby!" Hermione exclaimed and moved closer to Rose, putting an arm around her shoulder. Rose smiled inwardly at this comment. Then Ginny said, "You can't avoid the talk forever, Hermione. And you have to be there. Ron can't be the only one giving the talk. You know his emotional range."

"I know…" Hermione said, with a sigh. Then she turned to Ron (who looked particularly annoyed since he was being talked about when he was right there) and said, "I think we should wait till the end of the day." Rose blanched and said, "The end of the day?"

"Yes, sweetie. Why? Do you have a problem with us staying?"

"Oh no, of course not!" She said, a little too quickly, hastily trying to regain composure. The only problem is that you probably won't get any Rose/Scorpius alone time till after they leave. The voice said to her and she glared at the voice, although she did agree with it.

"Then it's settled. We shall stay until the end of the day. Merlin knows I could go for a walk in the woods. I mean, as long as I don't run into any spiders…" Ron said, shuddering at the memory of Aragog. Harry patted his back reassuringly and said, "I think we can handle the spiders now, Ron."

"Of course we can, Harry! What are you talking about? Why are you so obsessed with them. What, are you scared or something?"

"Nobody's buying it, dad." Rose said flatly and Ron gave her a glare while the others muffled their laughter. But Ron didn't deny it. Hermione checked her watch and her eyes widened. She looked at Rose and said, "What do you have next?"

"Um… Ancient Runes?"

"Then you had better get going! Merlin's beard, it's late! Go on, now! Just tell them that we had come to visit. You'll probably still get into detention. You too, Albus."

"Mum I think I can be late if I was a little busy talking to my famous parents." Rose said, although she was panicking inwardly.

"Now now, Rosie. We don't want you to go around taking advantage or anything." Ron said, in a warning tone even though his eyes were filled with amusement.

"Sorry, daddy." Rose said in a sarcastic tone because she saw the amusement in his eyes. He gave her a smile and said, "You truly are your mother's daughter. Anyway, we should go. Coming?"

"Yes, of course. We'll see you two after. Maybe play some Quidditch. I miss being on a broom." Harry said and shot a quick grin at Albus before heading off with the others. Albus and Rose had to go in the same direction since they both were taking Study of Ancient Runes. After a few moments of silence, Albus said, "Why were you sitting next to Malfoy?"

"It's like you said. It's imperative that---"

"Please, Rose. I think we both know that that was just me saving your arse."

"Right. And thanks about that. Well I just didn't find any empty---"

"There was a seat right beside me."

"Oh."

"So… are you planning to tell me why?"

"Okay fine. But you have to swear on… me, that you won't tell anyone."

"I swear I won't tell."

"Okay. Scorpius and I… we're kind of… together."

"Oh." Albus said, seemingly unsurprised.

"What? That's it?" Rose said, frowning in disbelief.

"Oh. Oh! Yeah, no! That's horrible! How could you be with him! He's a… filthy---"

"How long have you known?"

"Almost since when you first started going out." He said, gladly and quickly dropping the act. "And I think almost the whole school knows. You aren't actually working on keeping it a secret, you know."

"But we're trying!"

"Yeah… and failing. I'm sorry. I should have said something. But you guys are just so… unplatonic."

"We are, aren't we?" Rose said with a smile, after a moment.

"But that doesn't mean I want details. Please, Rose. Your life is your life."

"I'm very well aware of that. And I am not planning to give you details. Wait… does Hugo know?"

"Maybe…?"

"Oh my god! I'm supposed to set an example! I mean, he's giving his OWL exams this year! I can't go around dating people while he's slogging." Albus opened his mouth to protest at this but quickly closed it. Rose continued, "I mean---"

"Psst! Weasley!" A voice sounded from a nearby corridor. Rose glanced in the direction and saw Scorpius. She said, "What?"

"Head duties call."

"Is that what you kids are calling it these days?" Albus said, with a very amused smile on his face. Rose immediately blushed (she seemed to be doing that a lot ever since Scorpius came into her life) and Scorpius looked at her in faux confusion, trying hard to prevent himself from blushing too.

"He knows." Rose said, clearing things up for him. Realisation dawned and Scorpius blushed too. Albus said, "Well I'll leave you two lovebirds to your… business then." And sauntered off before Rose could say anything; still smiling. Rose turned back to Scorpius, looking beyond embarrassed and said, "What is it?"

"It wasn't actual Head duties. I was just… worried about you."

"Worried? Why?"

"Oh gee, I don't know. Maybe because your family ambushed you after DADA for sitting next to me?"

"Well you have nothing to worry about. My parents want to give me 'The Talk' after school but I already got that in the worst possible way from James last year when he had got majorly drunk so I figured that I would be okay." Rose said, shrugging and making Scorpius laugh.

"Good to know." He said, laughing. Then he said, "But, you know, while we're still alone---"

"I have to get to class, Scor."

"What do you mean class?! You have Study of Ancient Runes right now! Big deal!"

"It is a big deal! It's a class. I can't miss! It'll go onto my record!"

"You have famous parents. You're okay if you miss one class. Come on. Please?"

"Are you politely asking me to kiss you?"

"Well make out is probably a better word. And possibly miss class too." He said, giving her a puppy-dog smile (which was really irresistable). Rose pretended to think about it for a second and, after dramatically sighing, said, "If I have to then---"

"Woohoo! Welcome to rebel side, Rose Weasley!" Scorpius said, winking at her. She rolled her eyes at him and said, "But it's just one class."

"We have lunch next anyway."

"That's not the point, Scor. I'm going for all my classes after---" she was cut off when he quickly kissed her. Her response was almost immediate and she basically melted into his arms. A few moments into the kiss, she pulled away and finished, "---lunch." And then went back to kissing him. They broke apart, breathless and resting forehead-to-forehead. At some point of time, Scorpius had moved to leaning against the wall and the fact that Rose's back was dusty too probably meant that they had exchanged turns at leaning against the wall.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not even a minute had passed since the last class had finished when Rose found herself flanked on either side by her parents. And an immensely embarrassed Hugo. She said, "Um... hi?"

"We're going to have the talk." Hugo announced, doing a very good imitation of Ron's voice. Rose blushed slightly but nodded and allowed her parents to steer her and her brother in the desired direction.

"The dungeons? Seriously dad?" Hugo said, stepping in and making a face at the temperature of the dungeons. Hermione rolled her eyes said, "Quiet. Now, both of you, sit." They did and waited. There was a long pause before Ron said, "I really don't know why Hugo has to be in for the talk. He's still young. He should be alright without the talk for a year or two."

"Consider this hitting two birds with one stone - muggle saying." Hermione explained when Ron gave her a clueless expression. Then she turned back to Rose and Hugo and said, "Okay so… kids."

This is already bad. The voice in Rose's head said, snickering. Rose pressed her lips together to prevent laughter from coming out.

"Your mother and I think it's vital that you know about the kind of… urges… you'll experience in your adolescence."

"And what exactly are these 'urges' dad?" Hugo asked, nearly making Rose lose it. Hugo knew perfectly well what the urges were but just wanted to hear his parents say it. Ron looked at Hermione helplessly. Hermione narrowed her eyes at Hugo and said, "They're urges that will make you feel attracted towards another human being - boy or girl - and you'll want to… do things with them."

"What sort of things?" Rose asked and Hugo looked away, covering his mouth and biting his lip under his hand.

"You know… things like… snogging. Or other stuff."

"What other stuff?" The siblings said in sync.

"You know… the process through which babies are made." Ron said, his face clearly heating up. Rose could see the next question written all over Hugo's face but she wasn't sure she wanted a description of her conception from her parents. Which is why she was incredibly thankful when the door creaked open and Scorpius popped his head in and said, "Weasley?"

"What do you want, Malfoy?" Rose asked, trying to put up a hostile front in front of her parents.

"Head duties. We need to attend." Scorpius said, stiffening at her tone. She nodded and looked at her parents. They nodded and she ran out. But she heard Hugo's question just in time:

"How are babies made?" And it made her laugh. Once they had turned off into a bunch of corridors and were safely away from the dungeon, Scorpius held her wrist to stop her from going forward. She looked at him curiously and said, "We need to attend to duties… remember?"

"You're so cute when you actually believe my lies." Scorpius said, grinning.

"Stop being cheesy. It doesn't suit you." Rose said, although she couldn't stop smiling at the fact that Scorpius had actually gone through the trouble of getting her out of there.

"Oh really?" He said, moving closer and letting his arms encircle her waist. She tilted her head back to look at him and gave him a playful smile, encircling his neck with her arms.

"Yes. Really."

"Is that a challenge?" He whispered, leaning really close. She smirked and said, "Maybe."

"Well then…" he paused and kissed her. But not hard enough to be breathless by the end of it.

"Challenge accepted."
