Chapter 9
18:14, 9 December 2024Ever since the school festival, things between me and Sui-chan changed a lot. We were now closer than I ever thought we'd be. We hang out more at School, during lunch or after class. It was like we both fell into each other world without any effort at all.
It wasn't just at School. I found myself texting with her untill late night or even early morning, and it eventually led into a phone call. We talk about everything, school, her dream, and even just a silly things that happened. Some nights, we'd both fall asleep while doing Face Time.
Did I hate it? No, I love everything that's happpening between us right now. It feels like we were building something just between the two of us.
And there was that, her habit of posting pictures of us on her social media.
I didn't mind at all, really. But, everytime I open my phone to see another notification that Sui-chan tagged me, I feel embarassed and happy at the same time.
The pictures are just a normal pictures, sometime it's me and her or just a candid of me doing something silly and she just laughed at me. And sometime she would post a short video when we were together.
Of course with that happened, the whole school going crazy again. I'd always feel glances everywhere in School, and I could hear their whispers. I'm uncomfortable to be honest, but I'll need to learn to not care.
Since she always told me to do that everytime I ask her of what to do.
"I'm trying you know? It's hard for me to do that. I'm not used to all of this sudden attention." I exclaimed, irritated.
"Maybe just think of them like a wrecked radio or something like that." Sui-chan chuckled hearing my response. "C'mon, let's finish our lunch."
Without any reason at all, Sui-chan had made me a lunch box today. She told me that she just wanted to and was tired of the Cafetaria's food.
"I didn't know you're really good at cooking, this taste awesome, y'know?"
The omelette in particular was amazing, fluffy, flavourful, and easily my favorite. Alongside it were perfectly fried sausages that look like a squid, and stir fried vegetables all over a bed of rice.
"I'm glad you liked it." She smiled her cheeks a little bit red.
"It's really been a while since the last time I ate home cooked meal. Thank you, Sui-chan." I'm really thankful of this delicious meal.
"Huh?" She paused eating, her face filled with surprise and confusion. "Then, what did you eat all this time?"
"I'd always have instant food ready." I replied, embarassed.
Her expression shifted from surprise into concern, as she put her chopsticks down she looked at me with frown.
"You cannot be serious. You've been living off instant noodles this whole time?" Her voice held a mix of disbelief and slight frustration.
I shrugged, scratching the back of my head. "Yeah...i guess i get used to it. I can't really cook and my parents were away out of town."
Sui-chan sighed, her expression soften as she get closer to me. "You should take care of yourself, Y/N-kun. You can't just survive on cup noodles forever."
I laughed, trying to lift up the mood. "Hey, I've been surviving just fine, haven't I?"
But instead of laughing, She looked at me seriously her eyes filled with concern. "It's not only about survive y'know? I want you to be healthy, you should at least eat properly." She paused. "Now I wonder where did all those strenghts of yours coming from if all you eat are just instant noodles."
"Well, I work out often too." I chuckled.
She then smiled, that soft, genuine smile that always seems to make everything fade away. "I can make lunch for you, it's not a big problem for me." She paused, her smile fade away and now changed to a teasing grin. "Or...should I come to your house and make you breakfast and dinner instead?"
I blinked, my face heating up from her comment. "W-what? You don't have to do that, Sui-chan." I stutter, embarassed for a moment. I tried to play it cool, but my mind was already spinning at the thought of her wearing an apron in front of me. "You're busy enough with everything."
She giggled, clearly enjoying my reaction. "Relax, I'm just joking." She paused, giving me a playful nudge on the arm. "But seriously, Y/N-kun. I'll make sure you eat healthy and properly from now on."
"Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. Maybe I could use a little help." I gave her a grateful smile, feeling embarassed and touched by her concern.
"Good!" She said. "Because i don't want to hear you passing out because a lack of proper nutrition or something like that."
I chuckled, but deep down I'm really grateful. There was something about the way she cared, even in small things that made me feel specials.
We then continued to eat our lunch, accompanied by the gentle breeze of wind and the sight of rice field. Didn't know eating lunch at the rootop would be this good.
As I'm about to bite another pieces of omelette she made, I heard the familiar click sound of camera. I looked up to just see her holding her phone, the same grin on her face again.
"Did you seriously just take my picture?" I asked, embarassed.
Sui-chan giggled clearly pleased with herself. "You look too funny! The way you open your mouth for that omelette...I can't!" Her giggled turn into laugh.
I groaned, embarassed and irritated. "I don't even know how many times you've taken candid pictures of me."
"It's because you never wanted to get into photos with me or you always cover yourself when I'm point my phone towards you!" She shrugged, scrolling on her phone. "I need to post this one!" She laughed while staring at the picture she just take.
Not long after that, I feel my phone buzzed. I pull it out and sure enough it was a notification that Sui-chan just tagged me in her new post. It was me, opening my mouth, cheeks puffed and about to eat the omelette that were inches away. The caption she added make me feel embarassed more : "Made him lunch today~look at how much he like the omellete I made! ♡"
"Of course you really did post it." I covered my face for a seconds clearly embarassed, but unable to stop smiling.
"What? You really look good in candid." She giggled enjoying my reaction. "Beside..." She added with a smirk on her face. "Someone has to document our time together."
"It's a bit embarassing, y'know?" I spoke at the same time continuing to eat lunch. "But...I guess, I don't mind."
"Good, because I'm not planning to stop anytime soon!" She smiled, this time it wasn't the usual teasing grin.
I felt my face flustered again, and I tried to tease her now. "W-well, I'll posting candid pictures of you too then!"
Instead of having the same reaction as me, she raised an eyebrow clearly intrigued by the challange. "I dare you to try! But, good luck catching me off guard, Y/N-kun! I'm always ready for camera!"
As we continued to eat our lunch, I realize I wasn't worrying about any attention I get. As long as I'm with her, everything feels like it will be okay.
"That was pretty good." Sui-chan stretched out at the same time letting out a satisfied sigh.
"More than good, it's amazing." I replied. "You really didn't have to go through all that trouble in the morning to just cook me lunch."
She shook her head, her blue hair sway softly. "Who said I was in trouble? Beside, I like doing things for someone I care about."
My heart skip a beat hearing her words. What does she mean by that?
Before I could think much, my phone buzzed again. It was notifications, more comments flooding from the post she just made earlier.
"There's a lot of people in your account, Sui-chan." I muttered while staring at the phone. "Some even asked if we're dating."
Sui-chan leaned in closer to me, looking at my phone. "Should we give them something to talk about then?" She teased again but her voice had a softness that made my heart race.
I swallowed hard feeling the heat on my face. "W-what do you mean?"
She smirked, again with the teasing grin. "Relax, I'm just joking, Y/N-kun." But then, I saw her expression soften. "Though...I wouldn't mind if they thought that we're more than friends."
My eyes widened, unsure how to respond. Did what I just hear are right? Or she just teasing me again? The air between us suddenly change, I couldn't think of what to say.
"You're impossible, Sui-chan." I shook my head.
"Impossible or irresistable?" She shot back, her teasing grin returning in full force.
I could feel the heat on my face coming back again, whats wrong with this girl!!!
"C'mon, we still got classes." Sui-chan stood up suddenly.
As we walked down from the rooftop, I couldn't shake the feelings, after all the teasing she done, I keep wondering if theres something behind those words.
But one thing was clear as crystal, I started to love more spending time with her. Even if people talk about me, it means nothing when I'm with her. I should really doesn't give any care to them.
The rest of school went by blur, classes after classes passed by and eventually ended. Like usual, I'm walking home with Sui-chan, though now she suddenly linked up her arm towards mine, her expression somewhat cute.
I pulled my phone out and decided to take a picture of her, she's clueless. I take a look at the photo I just take, she looked so cute, her eyes were closed and a big smile popped up on her face, her hair blurred as it sway softly as we walk.
"Did you just take a picture of me?" She opened her eyes now. "How was I? Did I look cute?" Now her teasing grin come back again.
"Yeah, you look cute." I replied.
I could see it for a couple of seconds, her cheeks turn red and she got flustered for a seconds. But, she quickly glance at me again. "I've told you! I'm always ready for camera!"
"Yeah yeah, whatever." I replied, irritated by her response.
We continued to walk past all the familiar roads, buildings and neighbourbood. We stay silent for the rest of time, but it was really comfortable.
Eventually we reach the corner of the street where we part ways, but before we go to each other direction, I want to tell her something, something that I'd been holding for a while.
"Sui-chan...are you free tomorrow?" I asked her, my voice nervous.
"Yeah, what about it?" She replied casually, her face basked by the orange light of the sunset.
"Would you go to Amusement Park with me tomorrow?"
