GIRLS DAY

🪩

The studio buzzed with energy. Even though it was only a rehearsal day, the air inside the studio felt electric — laughter echoing from one corner, music thumping from another, the faint squeak of shoes on polished wood filling the space like percussion.

Diana buckled the last loop of her heel and stood, shaking out her arms as she glanced around. The mirrored walls reflected every movement, a kaleidoscope of motion. Dancers warmed up across the floor — Brandon was stretching his shoulders, Emma and Alan were practicing a tricky lift from one of the ensemble numbers, and Val was teasing Britt about missing a turn in their foxtrot run-through earlier.

It was organized chaos in the best way — the kind that made Diana's heart feel alive.

"All right, everyone," Mandy called out, clapping her hands to gather attention. "Let's start from the top! We'll go through the tango first, then the group quickstep, and then we'll give the ladies' piece another pass before lunch."

Diana nodded, moving into position beside Brandon. The two had been running the tango for days now — sharp, fiery, dramatic — and she was finally starting to feel that delicious mix of confidence and control that came when muscle memory took over.

Brandon flashed her a grin. "Ready to slay?"

Diana's face twisted with a laugh. "Don't ever say that again."

The opening notes of their tango filled the room — dark, intense, commanding. Instantly, everything else fell away. Brandon's hand found hers, strong and sure, as they stepped into the choreography.

The floor became their stage. Every movement was deliberate — the snap of her head, the sweep of his arm, the staccato precision of their footwork. She felt the rhythm pulse through her body, grounding her, driving her forward. Brandon led with sharp confidence, and she followed with equal strength, matching him beat for beat.

They spun through the first section, pivoting across the room, the hem of her practice skirt flaring around her legs. When the music shifted into its dramatic bridge, Brandon dipped her low, and for a moment, everything held perfectly still. Then they rose together, breath syncing, eyes locked, before driving into the final pose.

The music cut out.

For a heartbeat, there was only silence — then applause broke out across the room.

"Okayyyy," Jenna called from the corner, fanning herself dramatically. "I see you two!"

Diana laughed, straightening up as Brandon grinned and bowed. "We'll take that as approval."

"Major approval," Dani said, walking past with her water bottle. "That's gonna bring the house down on tour."

"Only if you guys don't steal the spotlight first," Diana teased, tossing her a playful look.

"Please," Dani said, flipping her hair. "We all know that's impossible with you out there."

Diana laughed, grabbing her own water and taking a long sip. It still felt surreal sometimes — being here, part of this world, surrounded by dancers she'd grown up watching on TV. She'd learned from them, admired them, and now she got to dance with them.

Brandon gave her a quick fist bump. "That was solid, D. We're hitting the lines so much cleaner now."

She smiled, bumping his fist back. "Thanks. I've been practicing that last pivot so I don't trip on myself."

"Wouldn't want that," he teased. "Especially when the spotlight's on."

"Oh, please. I'd just make it part of the choreography."

He laughed, shaking his head as Mandy's voice called out again. "Quickstep time! Let's get our partners."

The energy in the room shifted instantly — lighter, bouncier, all smiles and syncopated footwork. Diana made her way toward Pasha, who was already grinning like he was ready to bring chaos.

"You ready, superstar?" he said in his thick accent, offering his hand dramatically.

"I was born ready," she replied with equal flair, slipping her hand into his.

The quickstep was chaos — joyful chaos. The group number was full of crisscross patterns, partner switches, and those impossibly fast hops that made Diana feel like she was running a marathon in heels. The music kicked in, lively and bright, and they launched into it, their feet practically flying across the floor.

"Smile, smile, smile!" Emma called as she passed them, her own grin huge. "It's supposed to look easy!"

"Trying!" Diana laughed breathlessly, spinning into a side-by-side moment with Pasha.

At one point, he twirled her unexpectedly, adding a playful flick that wasn't even in the choreography. She yelped in surprise but landed perfectly.

"Improvising now, are we?" she teased, catching her breath as they reset for another run-through.

"It keeps it fun," Pasha said with a wink.

And it was fun — the kind of fun that left her cheeks aching from smiling too much. Every time she danced with Pasha, it felt easy, like he had this unshakable joy that made even the toughest rehearsals feel like a celebration.

After the quickstep, the dancers collapsed into laughter and applause. "Okay!" Mandy said, clapping again. "Let's reset for the ladies' piece before lunch. I want all the girls out."

Diana's heartbeat picked up a little. The contemporary number had quickly become one of her favorite routines — a powerful, emotional piece about unity, strength, and self-love. It was different from the partner dances — raw and expressive, less about perfect synchronization and more about intention.

The music began — soft piano at first, then building slowly. Diana took her place, barefoot now, the wooden floor cool beneath her feet. She met the other women's eyes in the mirror, a silent understanding passing between them.

When the beat dropped, they moved as one — bodies sweeping, arms cutting through the air, hair flying. The choreography flowed like water — one moment soft and fluid, the next sharp and defiant. Emma led with grounded strength; Britt's movements were all precision and grace; Dani's energy was radiant, uncontainable.

Diana felt her chest tighten with emotion as she danced. Every turn, every reach, every breath felt like an exhale — like letting go of every doubt and stepping fully into herself.

When the final note faded, the room was quiet for a moment. Then Mandy clapped, eyes shining. "That... that's it. That's the energy I want every night on tour."

The girls exchanged smiles, panting and glowing with sweat. Emma came up behind Diana, throwing an arm around her shoulders. "You crushed that, D."

"Thanks," Diana said, still catching her breath. "You guys make it easy. You're all like— unstoppable."

Witney giggled, plopping down on the floor beside them. "That's the point, right? Women power."

"Exactly," Jenna said with a grin.

They sat together on the floor for a few minutes, talking and laughing as someone passed around snacks and water. The camaraderie between the women felt effortless — like a sisterhood. They teased each other about choreography, shared stories from tour, and argued playfully about which city had the best coffee.

When Pasha and Brandon wandered over, Britt pointed at them dramatically. "Hey! This is a ladies' moment. No boys allowed."

Pasha gasped in mock offense. "But we brought more snacks!"

"Oh, well, in that case," Jenna said, laughing, "you may enter."

Rehearsal continued for another hour — small corrections, last-minute tweaks, transitions. When they finally wrapped for the day, Mandy called everyone into a quick huddle.

"Tour's coming fast," she said, smiling around at the group. "I just want to say — I'm proud of you all. The energy, the teamwork, the joy... it's what makes this show special. Keep that alive. Every city, every night."

Everyone clapped and cheered, some raising their water bottles in a mock toast. Diana felt a warm swell in her chest — a mix of pride and excitement.

As they started gathering their things, Brandon clapped her on the shoulder. "You killed it today, D."

She smiled. "You too. That tango's gonna be a showstopper."

"Better be," he said with a wink. "Or Mandy will make us run it ten more times."

Diana laughed, slinging her dance bag over her shoulder. "Don't jinx it."

Diana stood for a moment, watching everyone gather their things, chatting and laughing as the studio lights dimmed. It hit her then — how lucky she was to be part of this, to dance alongside people who inspired her daily, to create something beautiful night after night.

As she slung her bag over her shoulder and headed for the door, the city evening light poured through the glass — a soft, warm glow that reflected off the mirrors. She could still hear the faint echo of music behind her, the laughter of her castmates, the sound of shoes scuffing the floor.

It all felt alive. And for Diana, that was everything.

Saturday sunlight spilled through the tall café windows, painting soft gold patterns across the table where Diana sat, stirring a cup of oat-milk latte that was almost too pretty to drink. Outside, November air carried a light chill, but the city was glowing — that perfect mix of fall warmth and pre-holiday bustle. She could see families walking by in sweaters, hands wrapped around paper cups, little kids pointing at window displays already trimmed in string lights.

It felt peaceful — and she needed peaceful. After weeks of back-to-back rehearsals, press, and endless choreography tweaks for the tour, it was nice to have a Saturday that wasn't spent in a studio.

She glanced at her phone just as it buzzed with a text from Dani:

Parking now! Little miss insisted on walking herself in 😅

can't wait to see you both ❤️

Moments later, the café door chimed, and in came Dani and Nikita — bundled in a pink jacket, her little curls bouncing as she toddled next to her mom. Dani looked radiant even in casual clothes — hair pulled into a high ponytail, sunglasses perched on her head, and that signature dancer posture that made her look effortlessly put-together.

"There's my girls!" Diana called, waving.

Nikita's face lit up the moment she spotted her, and she let out a delighted squeal before making a determined beeline toward the table on her short legs. "Auntie D!"

Diana bent down, arms open wide, catching her in a giggly hug. "Hi, peanut! Oh my gosh, you got so big!"

"Big!" Nikita echoed proudly, stretching her arms as far as they could go.

Dani laughed, setting down her tote bag. "She's been saying that all morning."

"Well, she's not wrong," Diana said, brushing a strand of hair from Nikita's forehead. "Looks likes she grown more, even from the photo you sent me last week of her first dance class."

Nikita beamed, tugging on Diana's sleeve. "Tutu dance!"

"That's right! You're gonna be a dancer just like Mommy."

Dani groaned good-naturedly as she slid into the seat across from them. "Oh, don't give her ideas yet. I can barely keep up with her energy at home."

"You love it," Diana teased, sitting back down with Nikita now perched on her lap, happily playing with the sugar packets.

Dani rolled her eyes with a grin. "Yeah, okay. Maybe a little."

The waiter came by to take their orders, and Dani ordered her usual iced matcha while Nikita proudly requested "cookie."

Diana tried not to laugh as she added, "Make that two cookies. I'll share one with her."

When the waiter left, Dani leaned back, letting out a breath. "It feels so weird not being in rehearsal clothes right now."

"Tell me about it," Diana said. "I actually brushed my hair for the first time in days."

Dani snorted. "Luxury."

They both laughed — that easy, comfortable kind of laughter that came from hours spent sweating and stretching and sharing mirror space.

Diana leaned forward, resting her chin in her hand. "I can't believe tour's coming so soon. We literally just wrapped the season."

"I know," Dani said, sipping her matcha when it arrived. "I swear, the turnaround gets faster every year. One minute you're doing finale night, the next you're figuring out your bus schedule."

"I'm honestly excited, though," Diana said. "It's my first one. It feels... huge."

"It is huge," Dani said with a proud smile. "Your first tour is always special. You'll never forget it."

Diana's expression softened. "I already feel so grateful. It still doesn't feel real sometimes. Like — dancing onstage in different cities, with all of you? It's insane."

"You've earned it," Dani said. "You've worked your butt off since day one. Everyone's noticed."

Diana felt her cheeks warm. "Thank you."

"Seriously," Dani continued, genuine pride in her tone. "You came in as the new girl, but you didn't act like it. You found your groove right away. And it shows."

Before Diana could respond, Nikita interrupted by gently patting her face.

Diana looked down, smiling. "Yes, baby?"

"Cookie!"

"Oh right," Diana said with mock seriousness. "The most important topic of the day."

Their cookies arrived right on cue, and Nikita clapped her tiny hands. Diana helped break one in half, giving the toddler a small piece before taking a bite herself. "This is dangerous," she said through a mouthful of chocolate chip. "Way too good."

Dani laughed. "You sound like Pasha. He says that every time we go out for dessert."

At the mention of Dani's husband, Nikita piped up again. "Daddy dance!"

"Yes, Daddy dances," Dani said, smiling at her daughter. "All the time."

Diana grinned. "She's gonna be a little performer, I can tell."

"She already is," Dani said with a groan. "She puts on shows in the living room every night. She's obsessed with the opening number soundtrack. Every time she hears it, she makes me pick her up and spin her."

"That's adorable," Diana said, heart melting. "You have to record that sometime."

"Oh, I have," Dani said with a laugh. "Pasha has a whole folder labeled Nikita's Nightly Routines."

Diana laughed, shaking her head. "Of course he does."

As they talked, the atmosphere stayed warm and easy — the kind of afternoon that felt like sunshine bottled up. They chatted about the tour — Dani offering advice on travel routines, packing tricks, how to survive endless hotel living.

"Always pack your own pillowcase," Dani said wisely. "And snacks. Don't rely on venue catering — you'll regret it."

"Got it," Diana said, mentally adding it to her list.

"Oh, and bring a heating pad. You'll thank me later."

"Noted."

Then, as their conversation drifted, Dani gave her a knowing smile. "So," she said, her tone playful, "how are things with Malachi?"

Diana immediately felt her face grow warm. "Oh no, don't start."

"What? I can't ask about the adorable, now public, boyfriend?"

Diana covered her face with her hands. "I knew this was coming."

Dani grinned. "Come on. Spill."

Diana peeked through her fingers, laughing. "Things are really good, actually. Like... really good."

"I can tell," Dani said, taking another sip of her drink. "You're glowing. It's disgustingly cute."

"Stop," Diana said, though she couldn't stop smiling.

"No, really," Dani said, leaning in. "He is perfect for you. The way he looks at you? Ugh. You two are like a Hallmark movie."

Diana laughed, shaking her head. "He's... he's amazing. Supportive, funny, grounding. I feel really lucky."

"You deserve that," Dani said softly.

"Thank you," Diana said. Her voice was gentle now, quieter. "It's just... nice, you know? Being with someone who gets it. The travel, the chaos, the long hours. He understands all of it."

Dani nodded. "That makes a huge difference."

Nikita tugged on Diana's sleeve again, chocolate smudged on her chin. "Look!" She pointed out the window at a pigeon pecking crumbs on the sidewalk. "Birdie!"

Diana gasped dramatically. "You're right! Look how big he is!"

Nikita giggled, delighted.

"You're so good with her," Dani said, watching the interaction with a smile.

Diana looked up. "She's perfect. I mean — how could I not be?"

"Wanna babysit?" Dani teased.

Diana grinned. "Don't tempt me."

"Honestly, she'd love that," Dani said. "You're her favorite."

"Stop, I'm gonna cry," Diana said, laughing.

They finished their drinks and decided to take a walk around the nearby park, letting Nikita burn some energy. The trees were still half-dressed in gold and amber, leaves crunching underfoot as the toddler toddled along between them, her mittened hands clutching both women's fingers.

Dani sighed softly. "I forget how nice it is to slow down sometimes. Just... walk. No music, no choreography, no schedules."

"I know exactly what you mean," Diana said. "It's like you can actually breathe again."

They found a bench near the fountain, watching as Nikita ran in happy circles chasing pigeons.

"She's fearless," Diana said.

"Oh yeah," Dani said fondly. "She definitely got that from Pasha."

Diana smiled, resting her chin on her hand. "You guys are such a good team. Seriously — between tour, rehearsals, parenting... I don't know how you do it."

Dani shrugged with a humble laugh. "We make it work. Some days are chaotic, but she keeps us grounded. And honestly, being around her makes the long days worth it."

Diana's heart softened as she watched the little girl pick up a red leaf and hold it up to the sunlight like treasure.

"I hope I can have that someday," Diana murmured without even realizing she'd said it aloud.

Dani glanced at her, a knowing smile tugging at her lips. "You will. And you'll be amazing."

Diana blushed faintly. "You think so?"

"I know so," Dani said. "You've got the heart for it."

They sat there for a while longer, just talking — about dance, about the upcoming travel schedule, about holiday plans. Dani promised to bring cookies for the plane; Diana offered to help keep Nikita entertained on the bus between cities.

As they headed back toward the café parking lot, Nikita, tired from her adventures, rested her head on Diana's shoulder as Diana carried her the last few steps. "Sleepy?" Diana whispered.

Nikita mumbled something that sounded like "no" but was clearly a lie, her eyelids fluttering.

Dani smiled softly as she unlocked the car. "Looks like someone's had a big day."

Diana adjusted her hold on the little girl, swaying gently. "We both did."

Dani reached out, squeezing Diana's arm. "Thanks for today. It was really nice — just... normal."

"I needed it too," Diana said sincerely. "Thank you."

They hugged carefully, so as not to wake Nikita. Dani opened the car door, tucking her daughter into the car seat while Diana waved goodbye.

As she watched the car pull away, Diana exhaled — the kind of deep, happy breath that comes from a day filled with sunlight, laughter, and people who feel like home.

Her phone buzzed.

user i wanna be apart of girls day!!

The apartment was calm and dimly lit, the faint hum of the heater filling the quiet. A candle flickered on the coffee table, casting soft golden light across Diana's living room. She was curled up on the couch in one of Malachis hoodies and fuzzy socks, hair still damp from her shower, phone in hand as she answered Aspens FaceTime call.

Aspen's face appeared on-screen, bright and framed by the twinkle of fairy lights hanging in her dorm room. She was already grinning.

"Finally! I've been waiting for this for days!" Aspen said, flopping onto her bed with her usual dramatic flair. "The celebrity girlfriend herself."

Diana let out a laugh. "You're never going to let me live that down, are you?"

"Not a chance," Aspen said, sitting up and pointing at the camera. "You and Malachi Barton are officially Instagram official. The world knows. I repeat—the world knows. I feel like I'm talking to entertainment news right now."

"Oh, please." Diana rolled her eyes, but a smile tugged at her lips. "You've known for weeks. You were literally one of the first to know."

Aspen smirked. "Exactly. I was there for the 'just friends' phase, the 'delusional' phase, the 'i like him' phase—and now, I get to enjoy the 'public reveal' phase. I've earned my bragging rights."

Diana laughed, burying her face in her hands. "You make it sound like it was a government secret."

"Girl, it basically was." Aspen chuckled, then softened. "But seriously? I'm proud of you guys. You two look so happy."

Diana looked down at her lap, her smile turning softer, warmer. "We are. It just... feels right, you know? Easy."

Aspen nodded knowingly. "Yeah. You've got that look about you. Like, calm but in love. I don't know how to describe it, but it's giving main character energy."

Diana grinned. "Main character energy? That's a first."

Aspen shrugged. "Hey, I'm calling it like I see it. You deserve it."

They sat for a few moments, both smiling, the kind of easy silence only old friends could share.

"So," Aspen said suddenly, leaning closer to her camera, "how's tour rehearsal going? You haven't given me a full update in, like, forever."

Diana's face lit up immediately. "It's going so well! It's exhausting but really fun. We've been running the group numbers, and they're huge. There's a quickstep, a tango with Brandon, and the girls' number—which is all about women power. I love it."

Aspen gasped dramatically. "I need video proof. You're probably out there killing it while I'm over here barely surviving finals week."

Diana laughed. "I'll send you clips, I promise. But seriously, the energy in rehearsals has been insane. Everyone's hyped for tour. And Dani's been bringing Nikita sometimes—she's started dance classes now?"

Aspen's eyes widened. "What? She was a baby last time I saw her!"

"I know!" Diana gushed. "She walks around the studio like she owns the place. Yesterday she tried to copy part of our choreography—it was the cutest thing ever."

Aspen melted, clasping a hand over her heart. "Stop, that's too adorable. You have to send me a video of that."

"I will," Diana said, scrolling through her camera roll and sending Aspen a clip. "See?"

Aspen squealed. "Oh my gosh, she's like a mini pro dancer already!"

"Right?" Diana smiled proudly. "She even asks me to dance with her."

Aspen laughed. "Okay, that's it. I'm officially jealous of a toddler. She gets all the hugs."

Diana giggled. "You'll get one when I see you next. Promise."

"Deal," Aspen said with mock seriousness, then plopped back on her bed. "So, tell me the truth—what's been the hardest part of rehearsal so far?"

"Honestly?" Diana thought for a moment. "Probably pacing myself. I want to give a hundred percent every time, but I've been learning to listen to my body more. Dani's really good about reminding me to rest when I need to."

Aspen smiled softly. "I love that. You sound like you're growing into it all—like, balancing the dream with reality."

"Yeah," Diana admitted. "It's been a learning curve. But I'm happy. Really happy." Diana's lips curved into a small, smile. "Malachis been a big help too, helping me prepare for tour. We're together almost every day."

"Aww." Aspen pretended to swoon. "You're that couple now."

"Don't start." Diana tried to hide her grin.

"Oh, I am starting," Aspen said, grinning like a cat. "You two are disgustingly cute, D. Every time you post something, my entire For You Page turns into a fan edit."

Diana laughed, shaking her head. "Don't remind me. My notifications have been chaos since we went public. Fans are even pulling blurry pictures from our pier day."

"Oh yeah, I saw those," Aspen said with a mischievous grin. "You two were adorable. Tell me, was that before or after the bakery?"

Diana blinked, caught off guard. "Wait—how did you know about the bakery?"

"I have eyes, bestie," Aspen said. "There's literally a video of you through the window, feeding him a muffin. It's blurry, but it's definitely you."

Diana buried her face in a pillow, laughing. "Oh my god. There's no privacy left."

"Welcome to celebrity life, Miss Sinclair." Aspen smirked. "But honestly, you look happy. I think that's what people love about it."

Diana looked thoughtful for a second. "Yeah... I am. Happy, I mean."

"I can tell," Aspen said softly.

They stayed quiet for a moment before Aspen perked up again. "Okay, speaking of happiness—there's something I need to tell you."

Diana arched an eyebrow. "What did you do?"

Aspen bit back a grin. "There's this guy."

"Ohhh," Diana said, instantly intrigued. "Do tell."

"His name's Ethan," Aspen began, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. "He's in my sociology class. We started talking after a group project and... I don't know, he's just really easy to be around."

Diana's face lit up. "Aspen! That's amazing! When did this happen?"

"A few weeks ago," Aspen admitted, trying to play it cool. "We've gone for coffee a couple times. Nothing serious, just fun."

"Mm-hm." Diana crossed her arms, smirking. "You like him."

Aspen groaned. "Okay, maybe a little."

"I knew it!" Diana grinned triumphantly. "My best friend's finally catching feelings."

Aspen threw a pillow at her camera. "Shut up!"

They both burst into laughter, neither able to stop for a good minute.

When they finally calmed down, Aspen said between giggles, "Fine. Maybe I like him. But don't you dare tell anyone."

"Your secret's safe with me," Diana promised. "Best friend code."

"Good." Aspen smiled, then added slyly, "Besides, you're one to talk. You were way worse when it came to Malachi."

Diana gasped in mock offense. "Excuse me?"

Aspen held up a hand. "Don't even deny it! At least I admitted I like Ethan. You were pretending to not be in love with Malachi for weeks."

Diana laughed so hard her eyes watered. "You are so annoying."

"And you love me for it," Aspen said smugly.

"Unfortunately."

They both cracked up again, the easy rhythm of their friendship filling the room.

When the laughter faded, Aspen asked, "So, when do you leave for tour?"

"After New Years," Diana said. "We finish rehearsals soon, and then we get the holidays to ourselves. Then it all becomes real."

Aspen's smile softened. "You're going to crush it. I will be coming to one of the shows."

"You better be."

They both laughed again, and soon their conversation drifted into lighter topics—Aspen's roommate drama, a random TikTok trend, the latest celebrity gossip. Aspen made Diana rate Malachi's recent Instagram posts and stories from "cute" to "stop being so attractive," which had both of them wheezing.

"That photo on his story of him at the gym?" Aspen fanned herself dramatically. "Ma'am. That's a 12 out of 10."

Diana groaned, covering her face. "I am not rating my boyfriend's thirst traps with you."

"You already did," Aspen said. "You blushed, hard. That's a rating."

Diana threw her head back laughing. "You're unbelievable."

"Yep. And proud."

Eventually, Aspen yawned, pulling her blanket up around her shoulders. "Alright, superstar, I've got an early class tomorrow. You should get some sleep too."

"I know," Diana said softly. "Thanks for calling, Asp. I needed this."

Aspen smiled, warm and tired. "Anytime. Love you, D."

"Love you more."

The call ended, and the apartment fell quiet again. Diana set her phone on the couch beside her, smiling to herself. She felt full—of laughter, warmth, and gratitude.

Her phone buzzed again. A text.
