12. Goodbye

Third-person pov

Rose and Diana made their way home after helping Anne back to GreenGables and calmed her down.

They were talking about random topics. 

"We should help Anne," Diana said.

"I have a few valuable things that I could give her" Rose looked at Diana.

"Do you think Aunt Elizabeth will let us go to charlotte town with her?" she asked.

"I don't know Rose. Maybe she'll let you go" Diana looked at her cousin.

They exchanged sad smiles and kept walking to their house.

The next morning Diana and Rose made their way to Green Gables with bags in hand.

They saw a small sleigh with a certain redhead standing beside it 

"Anne!" Diana called and the redhead turned her head.

Rose and Diana stopped in front of her panting.

"What are you doing here?" Anne smiled.

"We're so glad we caught you" Rose said.

"We brought you something to sell" She opened the bag she was holding and pulled out a beautiful necklace.

"Oh, Rose it's beautiful...Why would you want to sell it?" Anne touched the necklace.

"You need it more than I do" Rose put the necklace inside of the bag and handed it to her.

"And I brought you..." Diana pulled out a beautiful brush.

"O-oh Diana are you sure?" Anne asked unsure if she wanted to take it.

Anne pulled her into a hug. They pulled away when they saw Marilla coming.

Anne quickly put the bags in the sleigh and covered them with a blanket.

"Do you have room from one more?" Rose chuckled.

"Do you wanna come along?" Anne offered.

"Of course!" Rose jumped in excitement.

"Morning Diana. Morning Rose" Marilla greeted.

"Goodmorning Miss Cuthbert," Diana and Rose said at the same time.

"Be sure to be at Miss Barry's before nightfall. Be safe" Marilla told Anne passing her a basket.

"We will. Be sure to tell Matthew not to worry" Anne said as Marilla kissed her temples.

"Everything will be alright. You'll see" Anne gleamed at her adoptive mother.

"Miss Cuthbert? Could I go along with them?" Rose asked giving her 'puppy eyes'.

"Will your aunt be alright with that?" Marilla asked placing her hands on her hips.

Rose nodded quickly.

"Then I guess it's alright" Rose smiled brightly and thanked her.

Diana brought both girls in a hug before they had to leave.

Rose and Anne hopped into the sleigh as Jerry drove it.

Diana waved them on until they couldn't be seen anymore.

Rose's pov

We were sitting in the sleigh in complete silence until Jerry spoke up.

"It's not so bad to ask for help sometimes you know?" Jerry said.

"If I needed help I would say so," Anne said rolling her eyes in annoyance.

"No, you wouldn't"

"Yes, I would!"

"Wouldn't"

"Would. times infinity" She said facing him.

'This is going to be a long ride' I thought to myself.

"What?" Jerry asked confused.

"Never mind. Let's not talk" Anne turned back.

Then Jerry started singing.

"Etait une bergere et ron et petit patapon~" he sang. This was one of my favourite songs so I join in.

"Etait une bergere-" Anne cut me off.

"No singing," she said in a serious tone.

"Qui gardait ses moutons" I continued laughing.

"I mean it!" She said getting impatient.

"I'm serious Jerry" She exclaimed.

"Oh, c'mon Anne loosen up a bit" Jerry chuckled.

Anne rubbed her temples. She laid her head on my shoulder and dozed off.

The sleigh came to a stop and Anne shot up.

"We're here Anne" I smiled at her friend.

I hopped off and walked to the back where all the items of luggage are.

"Can we meet at the cafe after we're done?" Rose asked picking up a few bags.

"Okay then. I'll see you there" Anne said as we parted ways.

I made my way to a small pawnshop.

The bell jingled as I opened the door.

"Uh hello sir" I greeted as I arrived near the counter.

"Hello, little lady. What can I do for ya?" he asked placing his elbows on the counter.

I placed the bag that contained my necklace on the table.

"How much can I get for this?" I asked as he opened the desk.

He held the necklace close to his eye looking at it carefully.

"80 dollars" He placed the necklace down looking at me.

He pulled out some money and put it in an envelope.

I thanked him and left his shop. 

As soon as I walked out the door I was met face-to-face with Gilbert.

"Oh, Gilbert! What are you doing here?" I smiled.

"I was just getting some groceries. What are YOU doing here?" he asked raising an eyebrow.

"I'm helping Anne sell some stuff" I extended my hand showing him the envelope full of money.

"Do you want to get some coffee? I have to tell you something" he led me to a small cafe.

"Are you really leaving..?" I asked looking down.

"I have to...that's what my father would've wanted" Gilbert sighed.

"I'm going to miss you" I felt a tear fall off my shoulder.

"Hey....don't cry..." Gilbert pulled me in for a hug. 

I buried my face in his chest. he kissed the top of my head.

Now I was blushing. Hopefully, no one sees it.

I heard someone cough from behind us.

I lifted my head to see Anne.

"Anne! Please have a seat" I quickly wiped my tears and stood up.

"Oh, no I'd hate to ruin the moment. I'll be waiting at the sleigh" She asked a smirk spread across her face.

"Wait, Anne! You're staying at Aunt Josephine's and I'd hate to bother her," I said as I thought of a way to get back home.

"You can come with me?" Gilbert offered.

I turned to him.

"It's quite alright. I don't want to be a burd-"

"Alright! It's settled. You're going back home with Gilbert. I'll see you at school" Anne quickly rushed out of the store.

"Are you sure you don't mind Gilbert?" 

"Why would I mind spending time with a beautiful girl?" He smirked.

I blushed furiously at the comment.

"We better get going. It's going to be dark soon"

Third-person pov

Rose and Gilbert stood in front of a large ship.

"I guess this is goodbye.." She looked down.

"I'll be back Rose..." He took her hands in his.

"Can you promise me that you'll send letters?" He asked.

She giggled.

"You can count on that" 

"All aboard!"

Gilbert looked back at her one last time.

He brought her hands up to his lips and gently pressed a kiss on her knuckles.

"Goodbye..."

Hello, my little roses! I still can't believe it's the end of season 1. I won't be updating for a few days. I just need to update some of the other chapters. Season 2 is going to be crazy amazing. I can't wait. I hope you like the last chapter of season 1. Stay safe my lovelies.
