Finally

A few days later

(Steve's pov)

After a few days I'm released from the hospital and Ava still hasn't woke up. Once I'm discharged I leave the hospital to buy flowers before going to see Ava. When I get to Ava's room I walk in to find a blonde woman sitting by Ava's bedside. "Oh, hi." She says standing up. "You must be kate. I'm Steve, nice to meet you." I say "you too." She replies. "How's she doing?" I ask "better then the last time she got shot by that guy. I'm just happy she's able to breath on her own." Kate sighs. "I'm so sorry about this." I say "don't do that to yourself. I heard she agent into her 'Agent ava' mode. When she's like that there's not much anyone can do sometimes." She says. I look at her confused as to what she's talking about. But she doesn't give me any answers. "I think it would be best if Ava told you about everything herself." She says standing up. "I'm gonna go home and clean up a bit. Feel free to stay as long as you like." She says before leaving.

I set the flowers down on the table before taking a seat next to Ava's bed. "Is she gone?" I hear her whisper. "... Ava?" I ask not sure if I'm just hallucinating. Ava opens her eyes and turns to look at me. "How long have you been awake?" I ask "since you walked in. I just really didn't want to hear a lecture from Kate just yet." She says. Ava smiles "thanks for the flowers." She says " I thought you died on the carrier." I say truthfully "you can't get rid of me that easily." Ava laughs for a moment before cringing in pain. "You okay?" I ask "I've been worse." She answers. It gets silent for a moment neither one of us knowing what to say next. Ava then speaks up "I haven't been totally honest with you about my history with shield." "What do you mean?" I ask. She then goes on to explain about her parents and how long she's really been an agent with shield. How nick helped her when all she knew was the life of an agent.

"Your sister mentioned something about an 'agent ava' mode. What does that mean?" I ask. She take a deep breath before answering. "well, on every mission I went on there was always something or someone I cared about involved. I convinced myself that in order to complete the mission successfully I had to forget about any and all things personal. Erase it temporarily, if that make more sense. That's how I developed what everyone refers to as. 'Agent Ava'. I black out and lose all control of my actions, while somehow sticking to my roll in the mission. The only problem is when I'm like that, I don't know who's on what side. For the first time ever I was able to control it when we were on that carrier." She explains. "When you said you were dealing with personal stuff, you were trying to...?" I ask "yup. And I controlled it. Quite well if I do say so myself." She says.

"So how are you feeling? Last I saw you, you had been shot three times. " she asks still processing everything she's told me I don't answer. "........Steve?" She says bringing me back to reality. "Sorry. I'm doing better than a few days ago. I was just discharged about an hour ago." I say she hesitates to say anything "you sure your alright? After everything I just told you I mean." She asks "you're still you right?" I ask, Ava nods "then all I care about is that you're all right." I say. She smiles at me " I'm glad to see you're all right too." She says.

"I've gotta meet with nick and nat soon. I'll come b again after." I say "okay. I'll see you later then." She says and I go to leave.

(Ava's pov)

A few moments after Steve leaves hill comes in the room. "Hey I saw Steve on the way in he told me you were awake. How are you feeling?" She asks. "I'm fine" I reply "how are you doing?" I ask "good. Tony gave me a job working for him the other day." Hill says. "The other day?" I ask. Then it hits me when Steve cane in he was practically fully recovered. "How long have I been out?" I ask "just over a week." Hill answers. "Awesome." I say with sarcasm "I take it I can't exactly go back to my apartment." I ask "that's another reason why I'm here." She says. I look at her curious "what do you mean?" I ask. "Well I told tony and pepper about your situation when they asked how you were doing, and they offered to let you stay with them till you find a place." Hill says. "I get the feeling tony isn't entirely on board with the idea." I say "well that's pepper for you" hill says. "I see. Tell them thanks. I appreciate it." I say accepting the offer.

(Steve's pov)

After meeting with nick and nat. Nat hands me a file on Bucky before saying "do me a favor, Steve. Ask Ava on a date. She's not gonna wait around forever." "I plan to. I'm heading back to the hospital to see her." I say  "she's awake?" Nat asks "yeah." "Tell her I'll stop by as soon as I can." She says "will do." I reply then head back to the hospital.

(Ava's pov)

Hill stays a while longer to keep me company before she has to return to work. When she leaves a nurse asks me if I feel well enough to have food and she brings me something to eat. Not long after Steve walks back in. "Hey." I say after swallowing a bite. "You seem to be doing a lot better then a few hours ago." He says "that asked me if I felt well enough to eat food. And all they brought me was some toast and soup. I'm dying for a pizza right now." I say. Steve laughs and takes a seat. "One step at a time." He says. "Okay, I guess I can wait." I say jokingly with a smile. "How did it go with nick and nat?" I ask. "Good nat gave me some info on Bucky." Steve says "that's good. It will definitely help in finding him. And I take it nick is going into hiding?" I ask "yeah." He answers. "Hey Ava?" He says "what's up?" I ask "when you get out of here would you be interested in having dinner with me?" He asks. His question throws me off a bit. "Steve. You've been feeding me ever since I moved to New York. If anything I should be treating you to dinner." I say "I meant on a date?" He says. "Oh! Yeah. I would like that." I say with a smile stretching from ear to ear.
