"Wooyoung-ah?"
San whispered, rubbing softly at his fairy's arm to gain his attention; voice raspy from disuse.
He had just surfaced from a restless nap, body drained of energy as he laid with his mate in their bedroom. The pixie was currently going through the throes of his very first delivery, seemingly ten hours into labor with no end in sight; much to his displeasure. Unsurprisingly though, the young vampire had been with him through it all. From the first contraction, to their current predicament, San had stuck to his side like glue, never straying too far from the younger; always in his sight.
While his dedication was unmatched, the effects of his unwavering loyalty did have it's looming consequences in the end. Years of experience taught him to ignore it, but the pins and needles in his throat were steadily becoming too painful to go unnoticed. It had been nearly a day since the last time he had ate, Wooyoung's contractions starting up a little before six am, turning feeding into the least of his concerns.
By the time everyone else in the house woke up and breakfast rolled around, the pixie's pain was already reaching a level that was bothersome, hindering the vampire from leaving his side. From then on he proceeded to skip lunch and was now surviving off the remaining remnants of yesterday's dinner, the burning in his esophagus only growing by the second; but he was too stubborn to leave his mate's side to feed. Let alone the sheer fatigue from not eating in the past twenty-four hours kept him cooped up in bed all day with his laboring pixie, physically too weak to extract himself from the warm sheets.
He looked unwell, and he knew it. His scarlet eyes had grown dark, shifting to a deep burgundy that neared on black; both laden with heavy bags. His structured cheeks had grown gaunt, the sharp indent underneath his cheekbone sinking in deeper than usual, giving him the appearance of a skeleton as his ashy skin was pulled tightly against his skull. His complexion had gone gray, only the smallest bit of warmth still left in his nose and lips, providing him with some sort of color.
His sire had screamed when he finally surfaced from his bedroom, San leaving to fetch his mate a snack from the kitchen. Red tears streamed down the blonde's cheek as he rushed to cup his fledgling's face, utterly shocked by the state he was in. The young vampire had merely brushed him off, grabbing Wooyoung what he wanted before he confined himself back to bed with the hurting fae. His pixie was going through much worse right now. His own problems could wait.
Speaking of him, San had observed the way the red-head's entire body seemed to go rigid, being the original reason for his awakening. Wooyoung's back stiffened from where he was pressed against the young vampire's front, veins popping as his neck tensed harshly; a pained whine slipping past his closed lips.
"Is it a contraction, sunshine?"
He whispered as brown eyes suddenly popped open, large pupils darting around the room as his mate began to struggle for breath; panting rapidly.
"Remember, deep breath in, deep breath out. You're gonna make yourself pass out if you keep doing that, Woo."
San instructed, demonstrating the ideal method of breathing as he urged the fairy to follow along, but the younger continued to gasp like a fish; mouth opening and closing around garbled moans.
This wasn't normal. No contraction had gripped him like this before, and as San soothed a hand down his distended bump, he found that the mound wasn't rock hard. It remained firm just like it had been these last few weeks after his stomach dropped, which was odd considering his current reaction.
"Hey. Look at me, sweetheart."
He reached out to cup his cheek, but flinched as his mate's voice suddenly ripped through his head like a bullet; shrill and reedy in pitch.
"Thirsty!"
Wooyoung cried through their bond, staring at the vampire with dilated eyes as he began to frantically pat at his thigh, his palm slapping at the clothed skin urgently; keening through a clenched jaw.
San instantly got the message, leaning over the squirming fae as he reached for the glass of AB settled along his bedside table; the dark liquid already half gone.
Even though Wooyoung was a fairy, they both quickly learned that blood would still have to become a part of his diet so long as he carried San's baby. Without it he would be left exhausted, bedridden and anemic; too weak to even care for himself. It had been a frightening sight for their family seeing him go through the first few weeks of his pregnancy, watching him grow increasingly pale and sickly as his sudden condition was left a mystery; the baby in his belly going unnoticed. It took Yeosang catching a fleeting glance of a dimpled infant in a vision before the pixie was introduced to the drink of their people, finally curing his ailment. Although now, he craved blood just as violently as any newborn fledgling would upon first tasting it. His mate may survive off food most of the time, but if he went without the red fluid for too long, he'd grow irrational; mood souring in a moment's notice.
Just like now.
As San's fingers wrapped around the crystalline cup, a heavy pressure suddenly clamped down onto his arm; startling him. He looked over to see that Wooyoung's lips sat pursed along the limb, nose bridge scrunched like an aggressive wolf as his blunt teeth dug into the sallow skin of his forearm harshly.
"Hyung!"
The young vampire instantly called out, attempting to remove his arm from the pixie's mouth. He was stunned, having never witnessed his mate do anything like this before. A cold shoulder or scathing comment was usually thrown around when he was craving blood, but never biting. San very soon began to panic as he found that he couldn't free himself from Wooyoung's hold, his body entirely sapped of energy and unable to fight back. The pixie's bite only increased, aiming to break his skin now, but he couldn't do anything to stop it. He was completely immobilized.
"SEONGHWA-HYUNG!"
San wailed, fear bleeding into his voice as he screamed for his sire. He was still trying to dislodge his arm from the fairy's teeth, but remained fruitless in his attempts for freedom.
It all felt like a blur as feet quickly thundered down the hall, the door to his bedroom slamming against the wall with a bang. Multiple pairs of hands instantly grabbed onto him and Wooyoung. Porcelain fingers easily forced the pixie's jaw down with innate strength, the red-head crying out at the sudden strain. San was successfully pulled away from him as his teeth unlatched, stumbling back into another body. Sturdy arms embraced him as they both fell to the floor with a hard thump, the chest pressed against him heaving.
The young vampire instantly cradled his arm; feeling weak. There was no pain to be felt from the bite, the skin not even broken as he observed the damage left behind. Wooyoung's teeth marks had already begun fading away, but fear still coursed through his veins from the unexpected event, shocked by the small pixie's violent outburst. Hostility just wasn't in his mate's nature.
"Are you okay!?"
The voice belonged to Hongjoong, but San just nodded along numbly to his hyung's concern; watching the current scene laid out in front of him.
His sire gripped onto Wooyoung, the fairy thrashing in Seonghwa's iron-like hold, his movements feral in every way. San even wondered if he would remember any of this, the glazed-over look in his eyes signaling that this meltdown was purely instinctual, his body going on autopilot to cease his burning hunger. He shrieked like a banshee at the top of his lungs, ruining his voice as he wailed for the vampire on repeat, trying and failing to break free from the blonde's arms to reach him.
"BLOOD! I NEED HIM! IT BURNS!"
He cried, everyone in the room cringing at the sound.
God, please make him stop!
San flinched as a thumb suddenly slid underneath his eye, the digit coming back painted red. He hadn't even realized he was crying, too shell shocked to notice the wetness dripping down his cheeks.
"Baby, go with Hongjoong!"
Seonghwa yelled over Wooyoung, the blonde's mate lifting the vampire to stand up on wobbly legs, turning them to leave the bedroom. Although San stilled, refusing to move from where he stood, eyes locked onto his mate's writhing form.
"But-"
"I'll make sure to take good care of him, Sannie. I promise."
Bright scarlet met dark maroon, unspoken words passing between the two. His sire's gaze softened in that maternal way of his that only Yeosang and him got to experience; like a mother gazing at her children. Seonghwa urged him to leave again with a soft flick of his chin, his reassuring smile promising to protect the hurting boy in his hold while the young vampire was away; to keep him safe.
San slowly deflated, leaning heavily against Hongjoong's shoulder as he accepted his defeat. He couldn't help his pixie in this condition, even if he wanted to.
His hyung squeezed his side affectionately, helping aid his tired body out into the hall, leaving Wooyoung's painful cries behind them with a soft click of the door.
"Come on, let's get you something to eat."
🩸🩸🩸
Seonghwa listened to the door click shut, but he didn't care to look up as his eyes were glued to the fairy in his hold; heart aching at the sight.
"Oh, my precious little ruby."
He cooed, brushing his lips over Wooyoung's brow even as he struggled against him. The skin was damp underneath his touch, the surface shiny with sweat as the small pixie continued to put up a never ending fight; his thirst making him ruthless. He kicked and screamed, his pregnant frame vibrating with pure rage as he wailed for his mate, balled fists attempting to push Seonghwa away. Although, the blonde easily held onto him, the fairy's delicate limbs no match for his unwavering strength. He scooped him up with little difficulty, cradling him against his chest like a newborn baby.
The vampire shoved down the high color of his turtleneck, exposing the smooth, marble-like expanse of his neck. Extending his nails, he sliced through the skin with a swift flick of his wrist; blood already beginning to leak down the side. He grabbed Wooyoung's head, gently directing him towards the cut. He shushed the boy as he whined out in dislike, urging his lips to settle along the wound even as he resisted.
"Eat, Young-ah."
He coaxed, soothing a hand through the red strands at the back of his neck as he pushed the fairy even closer to him. The blonde hummed in encouragement as he felt Wooyoung's tongue peek out hesitantly against his skin; lapping gently.
Feeding from a sire was a common form of self-soothing, like a baby sucking their own thumb. He'd done it with each of his boys while they grew out of their initial newborn phases, letting them drink his blood to help calm themselves whenever the burn became too much, or their heightened senses spurred a meltdown. Wooyoung wasn't his kin by nature, but he was still family and therefore Seonghwa would treat him as one of his own.
He felt the pixie give a few more uncertain licks before he ultimately pulled back, sputtering softly as he shook his head; face crinkled in disgust.
"Too similar..."
His voice was tired as it creeped through Seonghwa's mind, his fingers clenching onto the front of his buttoned cardigan in a quivering fist.
The vampire only fed off his mate, his blood consisting of Hongjoong's own. Imps were in close relation to fae, their makeup practically identical besides the elements of dark magic they carried in their DNA making them different. Seonghwa knew his blood tasted like Wooyoung was drinking his own, but he still pushed the boy back into his neck, practically feeling his thirst pulse through their bond as he spoke.
"I know you don't like it, but you have to try drinking more."
The blonde begged, nuzzling his nose into the fairy's scarlet locks warmly, the arms encased around him squeezing gently.
It took a moment of silent debate before he felt Wooyoung's tongue begin to lap at his neck once again. The small boy grimaced every so often, but Seonghwa merely sighed in relief as he didn't let up this time, the fae deciding to finally sate his endless craving as he drank obediently.
Although, after around ten minutes, the pixie suddenly flinched back. A deep heave rippled through his form, causing the vampire to look down just as a deep red painted the front of his sweater; the small fae gasping for breath.
"You poor thing."
Seonghwa cooed as he gagged again, watching blood trickle down the side of his mouth.
He carefully maneuvered them both, working to strip himself of the soiled outerwear in order to prevent the fairy from laying in his own sick. Once left in his white turtleneck, he wiped Wooyoung's stained mouth with a clean sleeve before tossing the article of clothing to the floor in a wet heap.
"It h-hurts."
The pixie moaned as Seonghwa settled him down against the pillows next to him, brushing away the damp strands of hair that stuck to his brow.
"I w-want San. I need h-him. P-please!"
Wooyoung begged, the blonde just nodding along knowingly to his request.
The vampire tucked him in, getting him as comfortable as possible while the boy asked for his mate, tears beginning to collect in his eyes. Seonghwa simply brushed them away as they began to fall, cupping the pixie's cheek affectionately; feeling his buzzing aura underneath his palm.
If Wooyoung couldn't keep his blood down, there wasn't much else he could do to ease his pain while San was away besides put him to sleep.
The blonde mentally reached out, grasping at the frantic energy radiating off the young fae as he urged it to still, observing how his tears quickly ceased; eyelids growing heavy.
"Hyung..."
Wooyoung gripped the vampire's hand, movements sluggish as he easily caught onto his plan, his breath slowing.
"N-no...no-"
He pled, but Seonghwa continued to calm his nerves, filling the room with an air of peacefulness as he dispelled all negative energy; his own body growing warm.
"Sleep, Wooyoung-ah."
He breathed, running a cool thumb along his cheekbone.
Dark lashes eventually fluttered shut over chocolate-colored eyes, delicate features relaxing as the small fairy fell victim to a dreamless slumber; chest rising and falling gently.
Seonghwa could only heave a sigh of relief.
He was finally asleep.
🩸🩸🩸
"San-ah."
The young vampire looked over at the sound of his name, the corner of a blood bag poised against his lips.
He'd been staring out the kitchen window for the last thirty minutes, seemingly lost in his own thoughts as he lazily drank from the pouch Hongjoong had handed him earlier; the bag still half full.
Yeosang stood in the doorway with crossed arms, maroon eyes softening as he took in his little brother with a sigh, flicking his head back towards the hallway as he approached him slowly.
"He wants you."
The older vampire confessed, laying a comforting hand across San's shoulder; squeezing gently. The younger quickly reached up to grab his wrist at the sudden contact, worry present in his scarlet gaze as he stared at the male.
"Have...Have you seen anything?"
His voice passed between them, but the room remained silent.
"He'll be fine, Sannie. I promise. If I knew something would go wrong, I'd tell you."
Yeosang reassured him, patting softly at the hand wrapped around his own as he urged the vampire to let go; nodding at the pouch still clasped in his other.
"Finish up eating first, the you can go see him. Alright?"
San merely hummed in reply, rewrapping his lips around the corner as he drank the red liquid inside, leaning against the kitchen counter as he did so.
He watched on quietly as his brother suddenly tugged open the freezer, digging around until he produced a bag from the back, a little noise falling from his mouth as he found what he was looking for. Satisfied, he bumped the compartment closed with his hip, popping open the microwave instead as he threw the frozen block of blood inside; punching in a number with ease as it whirred to life.
Together, they stood there in silence.
San's ears rang from the lack of sound that filled their home, the noise having since died down with Wooyoung's meltdown, his mate falling weirdly quiet after he was told to leave the room. Even now everyone remained hushed, the vampire spotting Jongho out in the living room as the siren dozed fitfully, the burgundy scales on his cheekbones shining with the fading sun. Hongjoong laid on the couch, sketching their maknae softly while he could see a gray mass moving about the backyard; Mingi having left the house to pace around the grass for a bit in his wolf.
It was peaceful, but San found little serenity in the stillness.
The microwave eventually finished with a beep, Yeosang pulling out the defrosted bag as he settled it along the counter. He opened the cabinet above him, grabbing an insulated tumbler from within as he neatly tore off the top of the pouch, pouring the thick substance inside.
"I may not be the telepath in this family, but I can practically hear your thoughts from over here. What's wrong?"
His brother called out as he screwed on the lid, looking over towards him as he worked; concern lacing his stern features.
San finished off his bag, throwing the empty packet into the garbage as he returned to his spot by the sink; sighing loudly.
"I just don't like that he's in more pain then he should be, and it's all because of me."
He admitted, knee bouncing up and down anxiously as his red eyes fixed on the dark hallway leading towards their bedrooms, feeling guilty for the position he'd put his mate in.
"Labor is labor, San-ah. You can't control nature. Wooyoung-ah knew what he was getting himself into when he agreed to have a baby with you."
Yeosang reasoned as he rifled through a drawer, pulling out a straw as he poked it through the opening of the cup's lid.
"Plus, between you and me, we both know that he can get through this. He's tougher than he looks. Especially for a pixie."
The vampire joked, walking up to him as he handed the younger boy his tumbler, San accepting it; albeit hesitantly.
He eyed the dark substance suspiciously, a rich scent suddenly hitting his nose. His mouth instantly began to water at the tantalizing aroma, bringing the straw up to his mouth as he took a meager sip; eyes widening at the sweet flavor. Seonghwa usually saved their O negative for special occasions, the blood basically like candy. He looked up at his older brother in question.
"Hyung said he can't keep anything down. See if this will work."
Yeosang ushered him out of the kitchen, motioning for him to head towards his bedroom with a firm palm to the small of his back. The elder smiled softly, cuffing him underneath the chin with an affectionate knuckle as he turned to join the others in the living room, although not before leaving one last fleeting touch to his hand.
"Call me if you need anything."
🩸🩸🩸
"Come in."
A warm baritone immediately responded as San knocked on the door to his bedroom, cracking the door open slowly as he peaked in.
A wave of calmness instantly hit him, the stress tied to his shoulders melting away as he stepped inside the room; a sigh of relief falling from his lips. He knew the lulling sensation was coming from his sire, the elder currently propped up against the headboard; glasses on with a book in hand. His crimson eyes quickly flicked over towards him, crinkling at the edges as he beckoned the young vampire forwards with a smile.
"I got him to sleep for a bit."
Seonghwa whispered, looking down at the sea of red splayed across his lap, his porcelain hand practically engulfed by the vibrant strands as he soothed through Wooyoung's hair softly.
Although, his mate wasn't the only one asleep, Yunho having since joined the pair as he snoozed alongside them. The tall brunette had been replaced by a brown wolf, his maw opened slightly as his tongue lolled out; drool seeping into the sheets. He nearly took up the entire surface, Seonghwa squished right up to the edge, almost falling off if it weren't for the long leg he draped over the side; keeping himself steady. Wooyoung laid right in the midst of it all, placed perfectly between the two as he napped. His head sat in the blonde's lap, the rest of his body curled up along Yunho's underbelly as the wolf served as his own personal heater; no doubt easing his lingering cramps.
"Have you tried feeding him?"
San asked as he approached the elder, kneeling down to Wooyoung's level as his brows drew together; worry lacing his features.
"Yes, but he didn't enjoy the taste of Hongjoong's blood. Said it was too close to his own, so most of it came back up."
Seonghwa sighed, removing his glasses as he rubbed at his eyes, motioning towards his discarded cardigan on the floor. The cream knit was stained, the front completely soiled. The young vampire eyed it with a frown.
"Yeosang-hyung seems to think that this will help though."
He held up the cup in his hand, his sire's nostrils flaring briefly as he caught a whiff of the fragrant blood inside; nodding approvingly
"I hate to wake him, but he needs the strength. See if he'll try it."
The blonde urged, rubbing along the younger boy's arm as he patted at his shoulder, attempting to rouse him, but failing as Wooyoung's eyes stayed closed.
San leaned over the slumbering fairy instead, gently nuzzling into the crown of his head for a moment; pecking at the dark roots. He carefully brushed away his scarlet bangs with a hesitant finger, watching as the bridge of his nose crinkled slightly at the touch; lashes fluttering.
"Wooyoungieeee~"
He called out softly, tapping at the beauty mark underneath his fairy's eye. He received another scrunch in response, an annoyed crease forming between his brows, but his mate still remained fast asleep; breath completely even.
Smiling at the display, he gently brushed the tip of his nose across the other's cheek, slowly moving it up as he pressed his lips to Wooyoung's forehead; holding them there.
"Good morning, sunshine~"
He pulled back as a quiet inhale filled the room, a pair of dark eyes finally flicking open. His mate blinked slowly, adjusting to the light as he emerged from his heavy slumber; tongue darting out to wet his chapped lips. San cupped his face, rubbing a thumb underneath his eye as he urged the fairy to look at him, smiling when he did so.
"There's my little ladybug."
He cooed, gazing at him fondly.
Wooyoung's lips curled up at the nickname, exhaustion still present in his dainty features as he reached out for the vampire's hand; shaking slightly. Although, he quickly diverted his fingers as he grabbed at his throat instead; whimpering loudly. His mouth fell open, gasping and choking for air as he clawed at his skin harshly, brown eyes bulging at the fire that was no doubt engulfing his esophagus.
Seonghwa immediately sprang to action, San watching on in frozen silence as the blonde swiftly hefted the small male up from his lap, cradling him against his side as he rested his head just underneath his chin; shushing him gently.
Wooyoung was crying, the first few crystalline tears dripping down his flushed cheeks as the vampire pried his hand away from his neck; the skin irritated and red. Seonghwa replaced it with his own, soothing his palm over the angry flesh as the pixie gripped onto the elder's wrist instead; nails digging in tightly.
Yunho had since awoken from the sudden commotion, brown fur melting to golden skin as the brunette sat up from his pillow, chin shiny with drool as he looked around in confusion. Seonghwa merely pointed at the door with an assertive finger, leaving no room for questions as the werewolf quickly got the message; nearly falling off the bed in his haste to leave the three alone.
"San-ah. Grab the cup."
His sire called out as soon as the door clicked shut, the vampire rushing to snatch the tumbler he'd set down, saddling up to his mate with it in hand.
"Shhh. I know, I know it hurts. It'll all get better soon, little one. I promise."
The blonde whispered, nodding at San as the young vampire looked at him briefly, reaching out to gently remove Wooyoung's face from the elder's neck.
"Sangie warmed up some O negative for you, sweetheart. Do you wanna try a sip? It'll make you feel better."
He coaxed, thumbing away the tears that continued to fall from his mate's eyes as he offered the tumbler in his hold.
Surprisingly, Wooyoung's mouth instantly opened, tiny sobs keening in the back of his throat as his lips parted for the straw; San swiftly obeying. His pale cheeks hollowed as he took a small drag of the viscous liquid, hesitancy written all over his features.
The two vampires watched with battered breath as the small pixie drank. Seonghwa lightly massaged at his throat as he urged him to swallow, smiling as his Adam's apple bobbed once.
"Good boy."
The blonde praised, pushing back his scarlet bangs as he pecked at his forehead, San's own smile spreading across his face; dimples and all.
Although, it may have been short lived as Wooyoung suddenly pulled away, the tip of the straw hovering just outside his mouth, resting against his red-tinted lips. His eyes had gone wide, brows raised as he smacked his lips once. Twice. San didn't even realize he was holding his breath until the fairy latched onto his hand, tugging the cup closer as the vampire gasped at his mate's sudden strength; nearly falling on top of him.
"Tastes good..."
Wooyoung sighed before his lips clamped down around the straw once again, throat moving as he swallowed mouthful after mouthful of blood; humming in pure relief. His eyes slipped closed as he drank, his taunt expression relaxing as the fire in his esophagus was slowly quenched; pain fading by the second.
The cup was almost empty when he finally pulled back, nothing but pure bliss written across his face as he settled against the elder; eyes heavy. Seonghwa carefully wiped away the red smudged along his lower lip, unconsciously licking the remnants off his thumb as he cradled the male; swaying him softly.
San gazed at his mate, smiling when Wooyoung looked over at him with a tired grin, settling his hand along his fairy's bump. Now that the pixie's thirst was gone, the vampire could focus on their baby's looming arrival, the little infant squirming around underneath his palm; seemingly anticipating their own birth as they wiggled excitedly.
"Better?"
He called out quietly, his bond tingling as small fingers intertwined around his own; squeezing lightly.
"Better."

Author's Note: I intended for this to be longer, but I never had time to continue it and I figured this was a good place to stop. If I ever feel like it, I can easily just make a part two! But anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this! I reached 100k on this book back in December, but I still wanted to stay thank you again for reading and appreciating my work!
