SEONGJOONG (pt.2)
08:45, 18 December 2024I've had so many requests to continue this story, so here we are!!! This will most likely end up being longer because I love this story and have so many ideas for it!
This series has officially been created into its own book called "Thank U"
--------------------
Chaos was the only word Seonghwa could use to explain the past 2 hours.
Jongho had successfully driven them to the nearest local hospital in which Hongjoong was immediately rushed into because he was losing way more blood then they had expected. San's fever had also begun to raise which concerned the three officers.
With the small male in his arms and his son placed against his chest, Seonghwa carried the duo into the lobby of the ER where they were met with a team of nurses, Yunho and Yeosang having called ahead of time to inform them of their arrival. Mingi followed closely behind him with San's lethargic body curled against his chest, the boy's head placed snuggly underneath his chin. He and San were quickly guided to a room by a nurse.
Seonghwa placed Hongjoong softly against the mattress of the gurney the nurses had brought with them before gently trying to pry the tiny newborn out of his arms. He was instantly met with resistance as the younger tightened his hold around his son, refusing to let him go.
Seonghwa could see the visible distress on the male's face as multiple nurses swarmed around him, asking he hand over Wooyoung while they attempted to look over his condition.
Of course this lead to a full blown meltdown as everything became too much for the male as he began screaming and crying, refusing to let any of the nurses touch him or his son.
His cries alerted the attention of a near by doctor we quickly came to assist, although all he ended up with was a hard kick to the crotch from the boy for getting to close and a bruised ego as the pain brought him to his knees.
He honestly kind of deserved it
Knowing that Hongjoong needed desperate medical attention as he could see red staining the sheets underneath him, Seonghwa made his way over to the boy and kneeled down besides the gurney that held him, so he could be at his level. The nurses slowly dispersed as he approached the sobbing male, watching with cautious eyes.
Hongjoong immediately turned his head towards him, brown eyes red and puffy as large tears ran down his flushed cheeks. His skin was pale from the loss of blood and he was shaking. He had Wooyoung pressed tightly against his chest, practically hidden from view as his arms engulfed his tiny body.
Reaching a hand up, Seonghwa gently brushed away hot tears with his thumb, eyes warm as he gazed at the younger.
"Hey...what's wrong?"
He whispered softly, voice low as he tried soothing the clearly upset male.
Hongjoong hiccuped slightly, eyes going wide as a stared at the officer, his arms tightening around Wooyoung.
"I don't want them to take him away."
He murmured quietly, angling his head down as he buried his nose into the thick strands of dark hair that laid across his son's head, inhaling his fresh newborn scent deeply.
"He's mine"
He practically growled the words out as he turned his gaze back towards Seonghwa, fire burning within his dark irises.
Seonghwa's heart leaped at the pure protectiveness that oozed from the younger's entire body as he spoke those words, sending a flurry of emotions through his head.
"They aren't going to take him away..."
"I won't let them"
He spoke the words with confidence, a small grin spreading across his face as the boy in front of him visibly calmed at his promise, knowing his son was safe.
Squeezing his shoulder reassuringly, Seonghwa calmly stood up from the floor as he slowly extended his arms out in front of him, his hands hovering over Hongjoong's own tiny pair.
The boy looked at him warily before he hesitantly moved his hands away from his son's back, allowing Seonghwa to gently scoop up the newborn.
With Wooyoung cradled safely in his hold, the watching nurses immediately flocked back towards the male.
Hongjoong let them work, but Seonghwa could clearly see the discomfort on his face as they helped him, his eyebrows scrunched together in displeasure.
They eventually began to wheel his gurney down the hall towards a room, Seonghwa following behind quickly. Although a nurse hastily stopped him as they neared the maternity ward, the automatic doors closing loudly behind Hongjoong's gurney. She claimed he couldn't go any further without any direct relation to the patient.
"I'm his husband"
He spoke calmly, wiggling his ring finger that was adorned with a simple silver band. An identical ring placed snuggly against Hongjoong's own finger.
He mentally patted himself on the back for coming up with the idea, having slipped one of his own rings onto the younger's finger while he slept against him in the car, knowing they would encounter trouble like this.
Nodding her head, the nurse entered a code into a keypad that sat against the wall besides them, a loud clicking noise filling the room as the doors in front of them opened.
She guided the officer through the winding halls until they came into a room where she helped him bathe and change the small baby.
Seonghwa couldn't help but smile the entire time as he bathed the dark haired boy, his crooked grin plastered across his face as the little baby cooed up at him. He looked impossiblely tiny as he was held within the male's large hands, his face scrunched up in displeasure as the nurse poured lukewarm water over his body.
Seonghwa laughed warmly at his expression.
It looked exactly like Hongjoong's
After many failed attempts, the small boy had finally been wrangled into a hospital issued hat and diaper before being tightly swaddled into a blanket. He was then placed inside a rolling bassinet and wheeled down the hall where he would receive all his necessary testing.
Even though Wooyoung wasn't Seonghwa's son, it still hurt his soul to watch the little baby become upset as he was poked and prodded.
The officer could practically feel his heart shatter as the newborn let out a shrill wail as a needle pierced his soft skin, having to get his blood drawn.
It was honestly painful to listen to
After about an hour of constant screams and cries, Seonghwa and Wooyoung finally found themselves placed into Hongjoong's room.
The officer was laid across the small couch that was placed next to the male's bed. Wooyoung was settled snuggly against Seonghwa's bare chest as he slumbered peacefully, his own naked body warm against the male's tanned skin,
Seonghwa had been opposed to the idea of "skin-to-skin" contact, but the nurse had insisted that he should do it as it established a strong bond between parent and baby.
Also if he was gonna keep up this act of being Hongjoong's "husband", he couldn't be awkward with the idea of laying his supposed "son" against his naked chest.
So that lead him to his current situation, completely naked from the waist up with a sleeping baby sprawled against his chest.
He honestly wasn't complaining though
Wooyoung was placed directly over his heart, his face tucked into the crook of his neck and it made the officer's heart melt. His solid weight was comforting and it made his eyes droop tiredly.
Lazily turning his gaze from the newborn on top of him, Seonghwa focused on the small, brown haired male that laid within the rails of the hospital bed next to him.
Hongjoong slept peacefully, small body tucked neatly under layers upon layers of blankets. An IV line sat next to his bed, a blood bag placed among the standard saline solution that slowly dripped into his body.
A blood transfusion
Seonghwa stared at the red bag, it's crimson contents flowing down the small tube that connected to Hongjoong. He felt guilt flare up inside him at the fact that he was the reason why the young boy needed it in the first place, that he had lost too much blood.
He should have been more careful
Pushing the intruding thought away, he continued to observe the sleeping male. His hazel locks were in disarray across his pillow, tangled and dirty. His face had been cleaned of the grim that stuck to his skin, but Seonghwa knew he would probably have to take a shower later.
However, now that he was devoid of dirt, the officer could properly take a look at him.
He could see a natural tan to his skin as he slowly began to regain his color from the blood. Although, the color was much lighter then the officer's own tan complexion.
He had a littering of piercings all over his ears, ranging from hoops to small studs. Even though he had quite a few, they didn't look crowded. They actually adorned his ears perfectly, like they were made to be there.
He also had no moles or freckles, but some of the longest eyelashes Seonghwa had ever seen!
They weren't very thick or dark, but they brushed against the tops of his cheeks so gently, making them appear darker against his fair skin.
They paired well with his petite, feline features. Seonghwa had always found it interesting just how much of a cat the younger resembled. From the sharp point of his eyes and nose, to the mischievous curl of his plump lips. Even the way he carried himself screamed grace and agility.
This unique combination of features could never work on anyone who wasn't Hongjoong.
He was just so unique
He was pretty
Seonghwa scolded himself at that thought. He shouldn't be thinking of the boy like this. Hongjoong was a criminal, not a big one but he had still broken the law countless times, having been involved with the police on multiple occasions.
But he was also a homeless mother of two who was just trying to provide for his family...
"No Seonghwa stop!"
The officer chided himself loudly, startling the sleeping newborn on his chest. Small whimpers began to rise in Wooyoung's throat as the baby woke with a start.
"Hey, shh shh, I'm sorry...I was loud, wasn't I?"
He gently cooed, rubbing a large hand up and down the boy's back as soothed him, lulling him back to sleep.
He turned his gaze away from the baby and up towards Hongjoong, sighing heavily as he found the male still curled up under the covers, fast asleep.
He hadn't woken him up
Wooyoung gradually calmed down, falling back to sleep as little breaths left his parted lips.
The room became silent
Seonghwa watched as both boys slumbered peacefully, only the sounds of their breathing and Hongjoong's heart monitor filling the room.
Sitting there in peaceful silence, the officer couldn't help but let his mind wander back to the small male that laid within the stiff sheets of the hospital bed.
Seonghwa had known Hongjoong ever since he was first spotted on the streets, which was around two years ago.
He had caught the male back in December trying to smuggle a lighter from a convenience store. He had assumed he was some helpless druggie just based off his appearance and obvious desperation for the item, but later learned that that wasn't the case as he found the male curled around a small fire in an alleyway.
He let him off the hook, but they had many more meetings after that.
Many more
Pickpocketing, lock picking, smuggling, you name it Hongjoong has done it.
Seonghwa laughed softly as he remembered the time the boy had stolen a sketchbook, having received a hard kick to the crotch when he had told the younger to return it.
Let's just say Hongjoong won that one
He smiled fondly at the memory, he gaze still lingering on the brown haired male.
He had hated the younger. He was snarky and rebellious, the type to not give a fuck about anyone or anything. It was Hongjoong's way or the highway. He was a constant pain in Seonghwa's ass that never seemed to go away.
Although, now he didn't know if he wanted him to go away...
He used to look at him as a delinquent, some random kid who got kicked out by their parents, who was just trying to cause a problem.
Then he had slowly learned more and more about the boy from their constant meetings and his perception on him gradually changed.
He was nothing like what he had expected
Hongjoong was 19-years-old and a sophomore Art Major at SNU, having graduated early from high school. He had lived with his grandparents back in Anyang before going to college. They owned a small farm and had raised him and his older brother since they were kids. He was both a part-time worker at a record store and an assistant art teacher at a nearby preschool.
He was happy with his life, happy with his jobs and schooling, but then he had gotten himself into the wrong crowd.
He had started dating his ex-boyfriend and his life seemingly went down hill from there. He was abusive and manipulative, but Hongjoong couldn't seem to get himself out of the relationship.
He was stuck
He only managed to escape one day when his boyfriend kicked him out, claiming he was cheating on him, when in reality it had actually been the other way around.
Hongjoong always failed to mention anything of San when he had gradually told Seonghwa his life story.
And now two years later, his view on the younger has once again changed.
Now when Seonghwa looked at him, all he saw was a struggling mother. Someone who put up an act and risked everything just to protect himself, to protect his family. Someone beaten down and broken, unable to be fixed. The type of person who needed help the most but never asked for it.
Just like his mother
Seonghwa's breath hitched at the realization, chest tightening as he realized just how alike Hongjoong and his own mother were.
They had both been broken and thrown away like trash.
They had both risked everything in order to survive.
They had both needed help, but never received it.
That was all going to change today
Sitting up slowly, Seonghwa gently removed the sleeping baby from his chest and settled him back into his bassinet, placing the small blanket inside over him.
Grabbing his uniform's undershirt, he slipped it on quickly before making his way towards the brightly lit hallway.
He paused in the doorway as he turned to look behind him, to look at the slumbering pair inside. He eyes caught on Hongjoong's gaunt face and dirty hair, his expression peaceful as he slept. The boy's ruffled appearance only seemed to confirm the looming idea that had settled into the officer's mind.
Hongjoong needed his help
With one last glance at the male, he made his way out into the hall, leaning against the wall as he withdrew his phone from his pocket, fingers quickly dialing a number.
He bit his lip nervously as he brought the device up to his ear, listening to the series of beeps as he waited for the other side to pick up.
It was 2 am, they couldn't possibly be awak-
"Hello?"
A soft voice answered, their words sluggish as if they had just woken up.
Which they probably had
Seonghwa relaxed at the familiar tone, inhaling deeply as he listened to the quiet static on the other line.
"Eomma, I need a favor."
