Chapter 28
08:35, 28 June 2015Chapter 28Her POV
My min' is far from easy when I finally fall asleep. Barely even noticin' the person layin' next ta me. I'm not sure if he fell asleep before I did, eventually I calm down enough to fall asleep holdin' his hand.
I wake up to the feelin' of drownin'. My chest is heavy an' I can't breathe right, like somethin' is bein' pressed on my lungs. I jolt my eyes open and panic at the body layin' across me. Then I get a good look at the culprit. Daryl has his right shoulder an' arm draped across my chest an' his head is restin' on my stomach. I'm a lil' taken back at the sight. Then, I remember somethin' from last night, he held my hand tight, an' kissed me, an' made me feel safe. He didn' take it back either, he wasn't mad at me fer somethin' I didn't even know I did. He was Daryl. The man I told him to stay.
I let out a sigh at the thought. All of a sudden, Daryl jolts awake just like I did an' takes a moment to look at his surroundin's and turns to look at me.
"Oh, yer awake?" He asks a lil' unsure.
"Yea, I just woke up. Sorry if I woke you up too." I say apologetically.
He nods in forgiveness an' sits up silently. He runs his hand through his hair, an' then gets up. I watch his every movement afraid I'll miss somethin' his beautiful body does.
I get so lost in him, I don' even realize that he got up and started walkin' toward the door. When it finally hits me, he's already outta the door way an' halfway down the hallway. Not a work was spoken durin' this action, like nobody was even here.
I flip over aggravated an' smack my face into the pillow an' start screamin' into it. One minute he's all close an' kissin' me, an' the next its like I'm not here.
This continues for about another minute 'til I'm interupted. "Should I come back later?" A gruff voice asks me. I flip over to see Daryl standin' in the doorway smirkin'.
"I thought you left?" I asked confused. "Yeah I did, to take a piss." He nods an' walks back into the room layin' next to me on the bed again.
I turn to face him, an' he turns to face me. Not a word is said, its peaceful enough bein' here together. Well for me at least, I don' know about him.
"Daryl." I whisper now realizin' that his eyes are closed.
"Hmm." He grunts quietly.
"What are we doin' here?" I ask hesitantly.
"What'dya mean? Like here at this place or here in this bed?" He opens his eyes confused.
"Well kinda, but here in this... relationship? If thats what you call whatever" I motion back an' forth between us with my hand. "This is."
He sighs an' I hope its fer somethin' good. "I don' know Bethy, I've never really felt this way before. 'Bout anyone. I'm not sure what to do." He shrugs slightly.
"Well if it helps, I'm a lil' confused myself." I giggle a bit an' he smiles.
"This is exactly how I know that theres somethin' here.." He states an I tilt my head in confusion. "That laugh that you just did, made my heart come beatin' outta my chest." He whispers and moves closer to me. I smile an' rest my head on his arm.
"I'm just so confused though Beth." He sighs. "Fer someone as sweet as you to like a shitty guy who was raised in a shitty house an' grew up with a shitty brother, an' an even shittier father." He looks away from me.
I shake his arm. "You are not a shitty person, the rest migh' be true, but you are a great person. Do you not remember what I once said to you... 'You gotta stay who you are, not who you were'." I smile slightly at him.
He nods an' repeats somethin' I've heard before as well. "Maybe you just gotta keep on remindin' me." He says an' smiles.
I laugh an' kiss his cheek. 'This is why I'm still alive. The people aroun' me keep me goin'." I nudge his arm again.
"No, you keep goin' because you are one badass girl Greene." He whispers an' kisses the top of my forehead. I keep smilin' an' eventually we fall asleep once again.
Mornin' comes an' I wake up with no one in the bed but me. I sit up an' stretch then get up changin' into somethin' else before I go downstairs.
I put my boots back on an' trudge down the stairs. I can hear that everyone's up from the small amount of talkin' thats comin' from downstairs.
I walk into the livin' room where everyone is an' every single head turns.
"Hey Beth, how ya feeling?" Noah asks me kindly. "Better." I reply with a smile.
They all nod an' continue talkin'. I walk into the kitchen to find Rick, Carl, Michonne, an' Carol all makin' breakfast.
"Mornin'." I say to them an' all their heads turn to smile at me.
Carol walks over to give me a hug an' so does Michonne.
"How are you?" Carol asks.
"All better, a little thirsty though." I laugh slightly.
"Here ya go." Carl says throwin' me a cold bottle of water from the fridge.
"Thank ya." I tell him.
Just then there's a knock on the door.
Rick goes over an' answers it to find Aaron standin' there with a bunch of equiptmen'.
"Morning." He says politely an' Rick nods. "I'm here to collect Beth." Oh shit! I forgot about the recruitin'.
"Why?" Maggie asks concern.
"She didn't tell you? Deanna assigned her the job of being a recruiter, as well as Daryl. He's at my house finishing up the bike he rebuilt." He says calmly.
"No she didn' tell me that. Bethy can I talk to you quickly?" She asks an' drags me into the livin' room.
"Why didn' you say anythin'!" She raises her voice a little, but still in a hushed tone.
"I forgot, I've been a little busy passin' out an' hallucinatin'." I say in the same tone back. "Maggie, I'll be with Daryl, we survived together before. I'll be okay." I say sweetly an' hug my sister.
She squeezes me tightly. "I know, but can ya blame me for worryin'?" She asks an' we both laugh a little.
When she releases I run upstairs an' grab my bag that I stole from that one store I found all the bolts for Daryl in.I rush down to the kitchen an' pack some food an' water in it. As well as a flashlight an' a zippo lighter I found in the drawer.
I walk back to the front door an' give Maggie a hug, an' Glenn gives me one tellin' me to be safe. Rick does the same an' kisses my head sendin' me off.
I walk outside to find Aaron standin' at the bottom of the steps.
"Alright, you can wait here. I'm gonna go grab the car and get Daryl." I nod as he runs off to his house next door.
I wait for about two minutes before the garage door opens up an' a motorcycle engine roars. I smile at the thought of the man who's ridin' it.
Daryl comes rollin' out an' towards me.
"What're you doin' Greene?" He asks stoppin' his bike. "I'm comin' with you. I'm the third recruiter." I say shakily, waitin' for his reaction.
"What?" He panics. "You're kiddin' right?" I shake my head. He turns off the bike an' gets off.
"You're insane! You ain't comin' with us girl! You're stayin' here with your sister where its safe!" He screams at me three inches away from my face.
"No I won't be! I will be goin' with you. Didn't you say this mornin' that I was 'one badass girl'." I scream back repeatin' his words. He huffs at a loss for words an' shakes his head relaxin' him self. I take a breath as well.
"Beth." He says quietly an' rests his hands on my arms. "I just want you to be safe. I don't want anythin' happenin' to you like last time." He says lookin' down.
"Hey, wouldn't you feel better knowin' I'm safe if I'm with you? Not just hopin' I'm safe while I'm here?" I ask him usin' my hand to move his chin up so he's lookin' at me.
He nods. "But sometimes even I can' keep ya safe." He whispers lookin' into my eyes.
"Well its over an' done with now. We've got jobs to do, okay?" He nods as Aaron pulls up behin' him.
"Beth are you ridin' with me?" He asks. I'm about to say yes, but I'm cut off.
"No she'll be ridin' with me." Daryl says protectively. "Hop on girl." He says as he starts the motor an' I swing my leg over wrappin' my arms aroun' Daryl's waist.
He starts drivin' towards the front gate of the town. He stops the vehicle for the guy to open the gate for us, then continues on down the road we originally came in on with Aaron followin' us.
It feels great to feel the wind on my face an' flowin' through my hair. It feels kinda nice not bein' cooped up in a small walled in town.
A little ways down the road we confront a few walkers, but Daryl steers aroun' them. Its a little strange seein' one again after a few days of nothin'. But it definitely wasn't a feelin' that I missed.
We start goin' down a steep hill an' Daryl isn't even thinkin' about slowin' down. I grasp onto him tighter an' I can feel him laughin'. He speeds up even more causin' me to almost rip his shirt I'm holdin' on so tight. He laughs even more then slows down. When we straighten out an' slow to a normal pace again, I pinch he stomach.
"Ow, what was that fer?" He asks.
"Dick." Is all I say to him an' he laughs.
We come aroun' a wide turn an' start makin' our way to a crossroads when we see a hoard of walkers about fifty feet in front of us.
Daryl quickly turns left, an' Aaron follows. Leavin' the walkers there like they don' even exist.
