27} Follow Orders
00:51, 18 January 2016Haha, I knew I said I would update soon after the last update but I've been busy with schoolwork (which is surprising because I tend not to to homework or revise extensively) so I haven't been writing as much as I'd like to be. I hope to rectify this so I'm going to try and update every 5th day? I don't know...
Also, I plan on swearing in this chapter so... I hope that's okay with you. If not you can shout at me and complain but I'll probably ignore you anyway.
Holy hell this authors note is long! Sorry, on with the chapter now! --------Your POV "Get the fuck off!!!" I shout, firing my last arrow at only a few metres range, completely passing through the unbalanced guard and sending him tumbling backwards, soon to be trampled under the hooves of the following horses.
"(Y/n) I NEED TO KNOW IF YOU MEANT WHAT YOU SAID WHEN...WHEN YOU LEFT ME!" Ezio shouts over the loud clatter of hooves and the loud crashes and creaks coming from the carriage.
A jab of sharp, agonising pain shoots right through my heart and I wonder if it was really the guard who was trampled of if it was I, who now can barely breathe for my racing heart. How can I justify a response to a question I don't even know the answer to?
"We don't have time for this. Stop up here, the other guards are quite far away. Take Leo to the boat and wait for me there, I'll deal with these idiots and meet you there." I shout, preparing to jump out. Leo has resurfaced and is sitting between us now, looking slightly confused.
"So... You have already met? And you aren't exactly friends, right?" He asks, alternating his glances from me to Ezio.
"It's complicated" I mutter, rubbing my forehead with my rough hand and using the other to chuck my bow in the back.
"Hmmm...what shall I go for?" I murmur, rooting around for a weapon to use.
"I've always thought that you suit a Bardiche (if you don't know what this is then I attached a picture for you at the top :D) best but then again you are very handy with a sword." Leo point out, looking over your shoulder at the weapons before you.
"I'll take both then!" You shout, finding both your sword and the long, axe-like weapon, hooking the sword into your belt and slinging the Bardiche into the holder on your back.
"(Y/n)! What are you doing?" Leo asks, seeing you sitting on the side of the cart ready to jump off.
"I'm going to hop off here guys, it's not you they're after..." You sneak a glance towards Ezio, "well they aren't after you Leo."
"Take the reigns, I'll go with her." Ezio hands over the reigns and moves closer to the edge of the shaking cart.
"I'm not a child and I don't need a novice like you to 'protect' me. Besides, who's going to look after Leo if you follow me like some lost puppy. " You sigh, this conversation being an awful lot alike your last, less thrilling, one.
"You stay with him then. I need the sword practice anyway." He jokes, passing the reigns to Leo and jumping off the cart.
"Hey! What are you-!" You start to shout but Leo interrupts.
"He'll be fine (y/n), he's been working very hard for the past few years and he may even be as good as you." Leo chuckles at his own joke and you cross your arms and kneel on the bench, facing Ezio and watching him shrink with distance.
You'd better be right Leo. You think, eyes softening and your bitter façade crumbling to show your inner fear and worry.
~~~Leo's POV~~~(Sorry to barge I here but I need to say two thinks! -if you haven't finished assassins creed brotherhood then I'm sorry but this bit might give something away, nothing important will happen until I switch POV again.-I'm not a homophobe so don't get offended by this next bit, it's only because of the era this is set in...)
I stop focusing on the road and instead switch my gaze into the beautiful woman kneeling besides me on the bench. Her (h/l),(h/c) hair whipping in the wind and her eyebrows furrowed.
She must care for Ezio deeply and ,unlike I, she has the strength and the will power to keep him safe. I must admit, I can't help but feel a little jealous of them. There's no denying that I have very...strong feelings towards Ezio but they are a dwindling flame placed before the roaring fire I see when those two spoke.
I suppose I should feel happy for them, it's obvious that they love each other and ,though I hate to admit, I would never have been allowed to be with Ezio anyway. People frown upon those of us like me. In some places we are prosecuted and killed. If Ezio and I were ever to be together, we'd have to do it secretly which wouldn't be the same.
This is all overlooking the fact that Ezio Auditore da Firenze is without a doubt the biggest manwhore I've ever met. He's not interested in any men, let alone me.
"He's a keeper." I tell her, making her fiercely glare at me whilst blushing.
"Why would I want to keep him?" She pouts, overly defensive.
"Because you two are like two pieces of a puzzle, fitting perfectly together. That and you're both mad about each other." I laugh, secretly stabbing my heart with every word.
~~~your pov~~~
I swear to god if that bastard has gotten himself killed I will resurrect him so I can kill him myself! I bite my lip through sheer anxiety.
"He's a keeper."
I'm slightly taken aback by the abruptness and confidence on that sentence.
"Why would I want to keep him?" I snap, trying extra hard not to blush but failing miserably. It's not an option...is it? If Leo is right, he's not the same novice he used to be. Even I've seen the improvement myself when I used to tail him. It's just not enough. He's too much of a distraction.
"Because you two are like two pieces of a puzzle, fitting perfectly together. That and you're both mad about each other." Leo replies, a sad smile stretching across his face. Does he...like Ezio?
"Leo..." I begin to venture but am quickly saved from the shear awkwardness of that conversation by an arrow. "DUCK!"
I push Leo down so he's bent over his knees and hunch over him to keep him down. I feel the arrow graze my back, cutting through the fabric and tearing a long streak through the (skin/tone) skin on my back.
"Agh! Shit!" I mutter, the pain stinging but not enough for me to scream or cry.
"(Y/n)! What's going on?" Leo shouts, pushing me off of him and sitting up, worry capturing his features at the sight of the long wound on my back. "Your back...I'm sorry."
"It's fine, just keep steering! There are more of them coming." I say, spotting more archers ahead. "On second thoughts, get in the back, close the hatch and stay down. When it's safe I'll call you."
"But what about-"
"Does nobody do what they are told?" I growl, making sure he realises that I'm not fooling around. "Get in the back now Leo."
He gulps and nods, still hesitant.
The city is so near, I can almost see it. I spur on the horses and tap into my sixth sense. I haven't told anyone about it but I have this strange gift. If I focus hard, the things around me are indicated in different colours: enemies are red, allies are blue, objectives are gold.
It's strange but useful, it even works through walls. I used to have to be mobile while using it but I've been practicing so much that I can run using it, albeit slower than usual.
Using my vision, I see a narrow path in the mountains, lined with archers and soldiers. I guess I'll just have to make a mad dash for it. Nearing the ambush, I crack the whip and yell at the horses in an effort to make them sprint faster. Just as the soldiers take positions I hear the dreaded creak of hinges, I spin round to see the idiot popping his head out from the hatch.
"(Y/n), are you alright? I heard you shouting!" Leo asks anxiously, making to stand up.
"DOWN YOU IDIOT!" I shout, throwing myself over him as a hail of arrows showers us. Relief washes over me at the sound of arrows hitting only wood and the rapid breathing and heart rate of the warm body underneath me.
I get up, causing him to groan. Looking down I see the tear in his top and the shallow wound underneath. His eyes slowly open and he immediately reaches to the minor wound, checking himself over for any fragments, he smiles and gazes up at me. I smile back, wobbling on my unsteady feet. Why do I feel lightheaded now?
His face answers my question.
His now horrified stare directed at my left shoulder. Glancing down I see the silver of an arrowhead poking out through my top. I let out a nervous giggle before stumbling backwards as the cart sways.
"Oh shit, would you look at that...I've been impaled..."
He stands up on the jittery cart and makes his way towards me, shaking slightly.
"Leo, grab the reigns before this cart loses control." He looks at me questionably, doubting my judgement. "Do it or I'll stab you myself!"
One frown later and he's climbing onto the drivers bench and grasping the reigns, attempting to regain control of the cart.
"(Y/n), if you don't sit down you'll fall down." He cautions over his shoulder.
Black spots dance in my vision and an excruciating pain radiates from my shoulder. I feel weightless suddenly, almost as if my head doesn't have a body. I might even believe it if not for that nagging pain.
"(Y/n)? Are you even listening?"
Thud, thud, thud.
Both the sound of Leo's voice and the stamp of hooves sound so distant, blocked out by a ringing.
"Leo...don't stop the cart until you're in Forlì! Tell him...I never wanted him to leave...he has to...know that." I think he heard me, I hope he heard me. Ezio has to know even if I can't tell him.
The carriage is jolted by a rock under the wheel and I stumble, losing my footing and tumbling off of the wagon.
An immense pain stings my whole body as the arrow is snapped in half and pushed further into my shoulder on impact with the ground. I bounce off the hard ground and roll, coming to a halt in the middle of the track.
"(Y/N)!!!"
The last thing I see is Leo looking back at me from the wagon ,which is leaving me behind, and his voice rings out.
Then it all goes black.
