Lilith hadn't eaten much, barely slept, she hadn't spoken to Maddy once, and most of all she couldn't function properly without ash. Part of her still didn't understand why they suddenly weren't talking anymore. She didn't understand why she was forcing herself away from him when he was trying so hard to keep her around.
Her head was rested on her desk as she waited impatiently for the last bell of the day to go. She'd done her usual makeup and straightened her hair and was wearing one of ash's shirts over a black top of hers but she just looked different. She looked so uncomfortable, so unhappy.
She felt her phone buzz in her pocket, pulling it out her eyes welled with tears at the message.
The final school bell of the day rang as she read the text over and over again.
Ashβ€οΈ:I'm outside the school rn beautiful. Please just come outside and talk to me. I love you <3
Lilith stood up abruptly and walked to her locker, grabbing her bag out of it and walking out of the school to see ash leaning against his car, looking down at his phone absentmindedly. A sight she didn't even realise she missed so much until now.
She took a few unsure steps towards him, before stopping, eyebrows knitting together in concentration. She was in the middle of a severe depressive episode, and maybe sorting things out with ash RIGHT NOW wasn't exactly what she needed. She could barely get herself together, let alone think about her relationship that was teetering over the edge.
Ash looked up from his phone, his eyes meeting hers. She stood for another 20 seconds before she cleared her throat slightly, a small anxious smile working its way onto her face as she slowly closed the gap between them.
Neither of them said anything as ash reached forwards and grabbed her hand, pulling her into him and hugging her tight.
Lilith instinctively wrapped her arms tightly around his torso, burying her face into his neck and taking a deep breath. The familiar smell of his cologne mixed with his body wash calmed her greatly, and she felt safe. She felt shielded and restricted in the best way possible.
She looked up at him with tears in her eyes, as she bit back a sad giggle.
"I fuckin missed you so much beautiful." Ash whispered, eyes scanning his girlfriends face with a hint of concern before he pulled her fully back into him again.
A small whimper left her lips, before a string of sobs followed, Lilith now completely unraveling in her boyfriends arms.
"It's okay baby, I gotchu. You know I gotchu, always." Ash said quietly, pressing multiple kisses to the top of Lilith's head as his eyes welled up with tears.
Lilith calmed down slightly at his words, still letting out small sobs. She stood back, wiping her tears frantically as she walked to the passenger side of his car, out of instinct.
She noticed how he was hesitating, clearly unsure of how to respond to everything that had just happened in the short amount of time they'd been in each other's presence again.
"It's your car dumbass, it doesn't bite!" Lilith giggled, wiping a few stray tears before getting into the car.
Ash just grinned and got in with her, and then they began to drive.

"You know ma, I forgot to tell you when I first seen you today," ash mumbled, sipping his strawberry milkshake as Lilith waited for him to continue. "You've made me realise that my clothes always seem to suit you better than they suit me." He chuckled, making Lilith roll her eyes and sip at her own milkshake.
"Yeah, well I missed you and had no other clean clothes.." Lilith trailed off slightly, looking forward over the cliff as a silence fell upon the two.
They were sat on the hood of ash's car, parked at the place ash had taken them for their first proper date. The day they went to the arcades and danced in the rain, the day he asked her to be his.
The sun was beginning to set in the distance, light yellow and baby blue hues covering the sky like a blanket as the two stared forward in a peaceful silence.
It was like they'd come to some sort of understanding that even though they had thousands of words they wanted to say to each other, hundreds of apologies they wanted to utter, they didn't need to say a word. Simply being in each other's presence, the physical affection, the sweet nothings and small kisses and little touches of hands was reassurance enough that they would be okay.
Sure, obviously the elephant in the room would have to be addressed at some point or another. It wasn't healthy to argue and then act like nothing ever happened, but ash could tell that Lilith was struggling enough as it was and Lilith could tell that ash just wanted things to work out.
"I love you, ash." Lilith mumbled, looking down as she fiddled with the lid on her cup. "Like- I really, really love you." She said, before looking towards her boyfriend who had a rather peaceful expression on his face, in contrast to his usual stoic cold expression.
"I love you too beautiful. So much. I love you too much to let an argument ruin what we got." Ash responded, before shuffling towards Lilith and pulling her into his side.
She cuddled into him, as they leaned back against the windshield of the car, practically lying across the car now. It was rather comfortable, both of them would've been happy to admit that.
"I'm sorry I ghosted you for so long." Lilith muttered, sipping her milkshake before continuing. "And I'm really sorry for exploding on you and calling you naive. You're not naive, and I shouldn't have been so rude to you. You just care about me and I see that, I appreciate that ash."
Ash let her words sink in for a moment, playing with locks of her hair with his free hand as his other arm wrapped around her body protectively.
"Nah lils, you good. I'm sorry for grabbin you ma, that shit was like. Out of order. I crossed a line that ain't meanna be crossed and I get it if you don't forgive me for dat." Ash said softly, looking down at his girlfriend. He could almost see the cogs turning in her head.
"I wasn't mad at you about it to begin with. It just.. like.. scared me? I guess I just didn't expect it. But ash, I don't care. I love you and-" Lilith was cut off by her boyfriend.
"Nah ma, you ain't gon forgive me when I haven't apologised for everything I need to apologise about yet. I'm sorry for grabbing you like dat, I'm sorry for screamin at you when you were just tryna help yo friend, I get that. I get wanting to protect someone you love. I'm sorry for not pullin my finger outta my ass and making a proper effort to talk to you ma, some messages ain't mean shit if I don't bother wit seein you in person." Ash mumbled, still playing with her hair. "And I really, really do love you. Like, so fuckin much it hurts so breathe. I went about shi the wrong fuckin way and that's on me shawty. U don't gotta apologise for shit."
Lilith felt a few tears roll down her cheeks as she hurried to wipe them off, giggling a bit at the purity of his apology. The fact he said it and meant every word was beautiful, but the fact that she could tell it was meant made everything so much better.
"I fucking love you dumbass." Lilith giggled, looking up and kissing ash.
It was a heartfelt, warm, passionate, much needed kiss. It was a long time overdue, and they'd both been craving it. This was exactly what they'd wanted the entire time they'd been apart.
"I fuckin love you too princess." Ash mumbled against her lips, before pulling her in and deepening the kiss.
The sun continued to set behind them as they stayed wrapped up in each other's presence, the kiss only ending for air and continuing as soon as breaths had been caught.
And, for the rest of that evening, they were all they needed and they were all they cared about.
