Assaulting Voices

"Godmum? Whele we going?" Rose asked her nanny, as the middle aged lady carried her in her lap and crouched behind a shelf, hiding. "Somewhere safe baby. Where no one will hurt you." The lady whispered, kissing the four year old's forehead.

"Leally? Can boo boo come with me?" Rose whispered, clutching the small old teddy bear against her chest. The lady nodded, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Of course baby. Of course."

The lady peeked out and found the corridor empty. She came out, holding Rose's hand and resumed her walk, always looking back with an alerted look. "Godmum? We not take Mathtel (master, it's her lisp) with uth, okay? He ith bad." Rose blabbered, skipping and jumping on her little legs, completely unaware of what is to befall them.

"Don't worry baby. He won't come with us. He won't hurt you anymore." The middle aged nanny said, more to herself as if reassuring herself. They reached the end of the corridor and the woman dropped Rose's hand to take out the key from her pockets. Wasting no time, she pushed the key into the lock but inspite of how much she tried, she couldn't open it.

Sweat beads trickled down her temples to her cheeks as she fiddled with the key. Her heart nearly stopped when she heard a couple of footsteps approaching them. And then someone started clapping.

"Well well well Miss Susan! I see you're going somewhere." The trembling lady turned to face Samael, the so called chairman of Hydra. He grinned widely and turned his focus to little Rose who was glaring up at him and tried to cover herself behind her nanny. "And I see you have our little Rosabelle with you. Hii baby!" He waved at the girl but she stuck out her tongue at him, angrily.

"You al bad! I go away with Godmum and boo boo." Little Rose yelled, clutching her nanny's skirt and her ragged teddy bear.

Samael sighed and waved his hand at a guard behind him and whispered something to him. The guard nodded and walked near Rose. He offered her a apologetic smile and picked her up in his arms. "Noo! Put me down! Put me down! You al bad! Vewy bad!" Rose shrieked, scared as she continued to thrash in his arms.

The nanny let out a sob and folded her hands. "Please don't hurt her. Let her go. She's just a child! She-she will die because of those experiments. Please!" "Godmum!" Rose cried, wriggling against the guard's grip. Samael groaned and snatched the child from the guard's arms and slapped her hard. That made her cry harder. He picked her up from the back of her frock and shook her hard.

Ignoring her shrieks, he faced the, now pleading and sobbing nanny. "You..." He pointed at her. "Tried to sneak out with a property of Hydra. And it's not an personable offence. You will face punishment. GUARDS! BURN HER THIS INSTANT!"

The woman froze in horror but stayed silent, her eyes only on the still now crying child who was trying to wriggle out of the monster's grip. "Godmum! Boo boo!" Rose shrieked. "I'm sorry my baby! I tried to give you a good life but failed. Don't be scared for someone will save you. I love you baby." The woman smiled sadly through her tears.

The guards drenched the woman in some flammable liquid and with just a spark, the woman lay whithering and screaming on the floor, fire engulfing her whole body. Rose's already big eyes widened with confusion and horror as her lovely nanny let out a bloody scream. "Godmum! Get up! Don't cly! Put me down!" She squirmed.

"GODMUM! MUMMA! NOO!" Rose howled, thrashing like anything while rest of the adults stood, watching the burning corpse. Samael handed the wailing child to the previous guard. "Take her and wipe her." The guard's eyes widened."But sir she's just a child! She won't survive-""Just do it. She's very strong. She can handle it. Go and wipe her."

The guard nodded after a moment of hesitation and turned to walk away, the child sobbing heartbreakingly in his arms. "GODMUMMA!!"

The whole Tower was awakened by a blood-curdling scream, in the middle of the night. They at once knew the source of the scream. Loki and Thor were the first one to barge in Rose's room, followed by the rest. They expected to find her crying but instead, found her panting hard with her eyes darting from side to side. Her fingers were tangled in her messy chocolate brown hair.

Loki approached her carefully with a soft voice. "Hey Pud... Ssh! You are awake and safe..." He allowed a small smile appear on his face when her glazed eyes fell on him. With measured steps, he walked near her and very slowly wrapped his arms around her trembling body, trying not to startle her. Rose tensed but the next moment she melted in his cool yet warm hug.

"She's hot." Loki said, looking up at the team as Rose breathed heavily, her face pressed into his hard chest. "I don't think this the time to complement her, brother." Thor spoke up, recieving a look from everyone and a whack from Natasha. "I don't mean that, you chunk of meat! She is warm to touch." Loki glared at him.

Bruce walked up and placed his palm on her forehead. "A mild fever. Nothing to worry. You need water, Rose?" Rose nodded and the next moment, a glass of cool water was handed to her by Loki. She chugged it down in four eager gulps and handed the empty glass back to Loki to be vanished back.

"I-I am... I am really sorry for *cough**cough* waking you all up..." Rose said, her voice gradually becoming fainter. "I didn't mean to... I-I need to be alone." The words came out as a whisper. Her eyes glazed over again as she stared blindly at the bedsheet. Her mind was bulging with unanswered and confusing questions.

Was it a dream? Or was it a memory?If memory, why didn't I remember it before?But it has to be true... I saw Samael... And I-I know that woman maybe... She died... She died because of me?

The Avengers watched their youngest member who had a lost look on her face and was murmuring something under her breath. Loki looked down at her and frowned worriedly. "Darling, you want to talk about it? Are you feeling well?" The questions tumbled down his lips as he involuntarily hugged her tighter. Rose remained silent, her brows furrowed in deep thought. Tony stepped forward. "Kiddo? Are you alright? You need something? Are you listening to me?"

Rose jerked a bit when Tony placed his hand on her shoulder. "Huh?" She asked, staring at Stark. "Are you okay? You need something?" Tony repeated his question to which Rose shook her head. "I am fine... I am fine...fine." she repeated the words, and trailed off as her thoughts travelled back to her dream. Steve tried to say something but Natasha cut him off with a flick of her hand.

"Sis, you need us to stay with you? If yes then we will stay without any problem." Rose looked back at Natasha and didn't look away from her. Out of everyone in the room, only Nat looked perfect without messy hair and tired face. "No..." Rose shook her head slowly. "No... You all can go. I need to be alone." Loki shook his head. "I'm not leaving you. Not until I make sure that you're fine."

"You had your mission today brother. You need rest. Let me stay with her-""No. I will stay with her. And it's-" Loki was interrupted by Rose. "Loki, go away. Take rest. I am not dying." "I won't leave you Rosabelle. It's final." Loki argued. Rose glared at him but finally gave up. To the rest she said, "I'm sorry. I really didn't want to wake you all up." "It's nothing, Rose. You are our family. We can't just ignore while you lay screaming. We care for you." Steve said, a warm smile on his sleepy face that made him look so cute.

Rose smiled a little and nodded. "If you need something, you know you can come to us, right?" Tony asked, kissing her forehead. Rose nodded. "Yes Mr. Stark." "Good. Let's move out then. Good night kiddo. Try to sleep." And with that all left, leaving the Asgardians and Rose alone in the room. Thor hugged Rose good night and after kissing Rose's cheek and a try to kiss Loki too (keyword try) he left, yawning on his way back to his room.

As soon as they were alone, Loki pulled back from Rose. "Care to tell me what were you dreaming about that made you scream?" He asked, staring at her. Rose didn't look at him but instead stared out from the balcony. "I don't want to talk about it Loki. I need to... You should sleep." She got down from the bed. "I need some fresh air."

"You are troubled Pudding! Why can't you talk to me? Maybe you'll feel better. What did you see? Flashback? Or some weird-" Loki's worried rambling came to a halt when Rose took his face in her soft warm hands and kissed his forehead softly. "I know that you want to help me, Lemon. But... it's..." Rose sighed and rubbed her temple. "It was about Hydra. And I don't know if it's a dream or not but.... It's not good. And I... I need some time to think about it..."

Loki bit his lip as he brushed his thumb over the bruise on her jaw. "I understand... Take as much time you need to think about it. I won't join you in the balcony as you want to be alone. But till you come back, I'll wait for you. And are you sure that.... you don't want to talk about the dream?" Rose smiled and shook her head. "Not now... But I will..."

Loki sighed deeply and then nodded. Rose ran her fingers through his soft black hair and leaned down to kiss him. Sparks flew as usual when their lips met. They fit with each other like a perfect piece of puzzle. The kiss was a short one. Not a hungry and a rough one with tongues gliding but was soft and filled with passion. It was a kiss filled with innocent love that overwhelmed the hearts of the lovers. The kiss reminded them that no matter what happens, they are there for each other.

With bright twinkling eyes filled with wonder, Loki pulled back ending the kiss. He let out a dreamy sigh as his lips turned up in a sweet and cute smile. "I love you darling. A lot. A lot." He mumbled kissing her palms. Rose smiled and gulped down her tears. "I love you too my Frosty."

Loki plopped himself down on her bed, watching her walking towards the balcony. He placed his head on the pillow and stared at her as she sat on a chair, looking out, her back facing him. "What did I do to deserve this Angel?" He said to himself softly, a dreamy sigh escaping his pink lips.

Rose, on the other hand, was back to her deep and troubled thoughts. She pinched the bridge of her nose thinking about the dream. "It can't be a dream." She thought. "I saw myself. I saw that monster. And it seemed that I know that woman too. And that old teddy bear. But the main thing is that... That woman dies because of me." She leaned back against the chair, her eyes burning. She clenched her jaws but winced when they stunged. Her lips were split a bit and the bruise still was present.

She closed her eyes and a fragment of the dream or flashback hurled in her mind."Take her and wipe her." "But sir she's just a child! She won't survive-""Just do it. She's very strong. She can handle it. Go and wipe her."

Rose snapped open her eyes with a small gasp. "How could I have missed this? They wiped my memory clean. Those bloody fucking monsters. They killed her... In front of me. Because of me." She mumbled, shutting her eyes. Looks like you got another name in your bloody list. A voice inside her head hissed. "Shut up..." You have got more blood on your hands than you actually think. How many died because of you, huh? You're the reason for so many innocent deaths. How can you sleep with so much of blood covering your soul?

Her hands started to tremble as she tried to block out the harsh voice but failed. Above all, it was speaking the truth. Try as much as you can K-74 but you can't run away from the truth. The bitter truth about your crimes. Your list is long but more is to come. Who's next? Your friends? The Captain? Your brother? Your sisters? Aunt? Tony Stark or... Your precious Loki?

Rose stood up straight, gasping for air. She clutched the railings tightly till her knuckles went white. Sweat dripped down her flushed cheeks. "Stop it now. Stop it. Shut up." She growled, irritated and slapped herself twice. Who's next...? Who's next...? The voice hissed inside her head and faded away slowly, leaving Rose a wrecked mess. Tears rolled down her cheeks and got mixed with sweat beads.

"What should I do? Please someone help me out... Please..." Rose whimpered slumping back in the chair. Who's next...?Enough thinking. It was making her more troubled. It wasn't helping at all. Jump from here and all will end... Everyone will be safe. From you... Just jump."No no no... No I won't." Rose shook her head hard, blinking fast and rushed out from the balcony. She was going crazy. Her head spined and hands trembled. Everything seems wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

She entered the bathroom and kneeled beside the basin. With a few shallow breaths, everything hurled out of her throat as she threw up her stomach content. Her throat and nose burnt but it felt good. She felt a bit lighter. Rose slumped down waiting to throw up more but nothing came out. She flushed the toilet and stood up, rinsed her mouth and splashed water on her face.

She entered her bedroom and smiled when she saw Loki sleeping like a baby. Face hidden behind the long strands of ebony hair, his hand was tucked under his head. Lips slightly parted, he drooled. Legs sprawled out and folded in some weird angle, he looked adorable. Slowly, she placed herself beside him and brushed away the locks, revealing his smooth handsome face that looked so peaceful and calm. She continued gazing at him, forgetting all her worries. "What did I do to deserve this frosted lemon?" She mumbled, kissing his cheek.

Everything was perfect about this man. Everything. She couldn't help but brush her finger over his soft lips and smile again. She studied how the bottom lip was slightly more full than the top one. Without thinking, she tugged at his bottom lip slightly but cursed herself mentally when Loki stirred.

Loki yawned softly and looked up at Rose, his eyes half closed. "Rose...?" Rose put up a smile. She placed his head on her lap and began stroking his hair. "Sleep my darling Frosty..." She whispered and started humming a song. Rose smiled when she saw him drifting back to sleep. "Thanks Jesus!" She too was about to close her eyes but they snapped open when the voice returned.

The sunlight flooded in as Loki started to open his eyes. He yawned, stretched and rubbed his eyes to get rid of the sleep. He rolled on his back and looked at the galaxy themed ceiling lazily for a moment. Sleep snapped out, it clicked in his mind that he was in Rose's room. But where is she? And when did he fall asleep? Shit!

He turned his head to the side to find Rose sitting across him in a chair and staring blankly at the wall in front of her. Her legs were folded and pressed tightly against her chest. She was unaware that Loki was awake. Worried, Loki sat up. "Rose?" No answer. "Rose?" Silence. "Rose!" Loki called her name a bit louder which made her jump. "Wha- oh! You're awake..." Loki stared at her and got down from the bed. He walked near her and tilted her face up.

Her eyes were dull and lacked their brightness. She looked tired and a bit pale. Dark circles were visible under her eyes. "You didn't sleep..." Rose looked away knowing that this wasn't a question but a statement. "I did..." She lied. "Just woke up too early-""Don't lie Rose." Loki stopped her with a stern yet concerned voice. "You know I can tell when you're lying. They don't call me the God of lies for nothing." Loki chided her.

He tucked the stray locks behind her ear and cupped her cheeks. "What's the matter Rose?" He asked softly. "It's..." Rose started, unable to think how to say. "I didn't feel like sleeping. And the voices inside my head... kept assaulting me whole night and I couldn't sleep. I am tired Loki..." She shuddered as a tear rolled down from her eye. "I am tired of this life..."

Loki pressed his lips into thin lines as his thumb brushed away the tear. He placed his hands on her temples and looked into her mind. Rose at once knew what he was trying to do but sat still and didn't stop him. Loki searched through her mind and was truly shocked to find the place so dark. At last, he reached the destined site and tugged at it for access to enter. Rose allowed him to see her last night's dream. And after seeing that, he broke the connection with a soft gasp of horror.

"Who was she?!" He asked, his eyes wide. Rose shrugged, still avoiding any eye-contact with Loki. "I don't know...or maybe I know. I think she was my caretaker or nanny. I-I called her Godmum... She used to love me Loki." This time, Rose looked up at him, her eyes dry but cheeks tear stained. She clasped his hands in her own. "She loved me and look... what happened with her. She died a cruel death. My-my own mother tried to save me a-and she met with the same fate..." Tears welled up in her eyes as her voice wobbled. Loki knew what was coming next.

"C-can't you see Loki? They died saving me! They died because they used to love me! Their blood is on my hands... I am scared Loki. I-I am scared for you...for-for all of you. What if you're n-next? Wh-what will I-I do then? I-I can't lose you! No no I-I can't-"

"Rose! Love breathe!" Loki interrupted, his voice high, by catching her wrists. She was having a short anxiety attack and Loki knew that when she had started shuttering and gasping for air. Rose buried her face against his stomach as he rubbed her back. "You won't lose me, my darling. You'll never lose me." He said in a comforting voice.

"I-I am scared Loki..." Rose sobbed, her tears staining his shirt. Loki bit his cheeks and kneeled down beside her, and wiped her tears with a smile. "Forget the past, love. Don't cry thinking about them. They didn't gave their lives to see you crying like this. Always remember that they are watching over you... And you don't want to hurt them by shedding tears like this, do you?" Loki asked in a baby voice as he continued wiping the falling tears. Rose sniffled and shook her head.

"And don't worry about the future, my love. I can clearly see our future." He wrapped his hand around her shoulder and smiled widely. "You know what I see?""What...?" Rose asked in a small voice, wiping her wet nose. "I see Tony, Natasha, Lucy and Steve walking with you down an aisle. You're in your favourite gown and you look beautiful as usual. I see Thor, Pepper and Bruce beside me. I stand waiting for you with the widest smile and colourful roses in hand. I see Aunt sobbing happily. A perfect future..."

Rose blushed and looked away from him. "Don't joke Loki." Loki frowned. "I am not joking Kitty! Just keep one thing in your mind. Your future is with me because I'm not leaving you so easily. I'll stand with you till the end of the day. Holding your hand firmly. And no one's blood is on your hands. You are pure. And no one is going to die because of you... Just kick these poisonous thoughts out of your mind and smile." Loki grinned slightly and pulled her cheek. "Come on! Show me your teeth! Smile!"

Rose sniffled and managed a small smile. "Bigger! I need a bigger smile!" Loki encouraged her with a pout. It made Rose laugh. "You're so silly Frosty." She smiled. Loki grinned proudly. "That I am!"

As soon as the lovebirds came down for breakfast, the rest surrounded them with a wide smile. "Someone is here." Natasha announced with a cheesy grin. Rose furrowed her brows and looked at Loki to find the same confusion on his face too. "Who is here?" Loki asked before Rose could. "Why don't you hug him and find out?" Came a very familiar voice from behind them.

Rose's eyes widened with surprise as she turned to face the source of the voice. She squealed with delight and literally jumped on the person, engulfing him in a tight hug. "I missed you soo soo much!" She squeaked. Clint laughed softly as he returned the hug with same force. "Ah! I missed you too doll. Did you miss my pancakes too?" Rose chuckled as she pulled back from the hug. "Trust me, a lot!" Barton sighed happily and kissed her forehead.

"Come on! I missed you too Clint!" Loki catched his attention. "Oh! I am truly honoured cow." Clint laughed and they hugged. "And I think these two have some surprising news for you." Tony spoke up with a smirk. "What surprise? Did you guys defeat Natasha in some bate?" Barton asked, earning a snort from Nat. Rose grinned widely and then without any warning, pulled Loki down and kissed him hard on his lips.

Clint's eyes popped out in surprise and the rest burst out laughing at his face. "WHAT!? Really!! You two! Oh my beautiful arrows! Why didn't you tell me before Natasha?" Barton threw a offended look at Nat who just shrugged. "Come on, this was a surprise for you. Aren't they cute together?" Clint huffed loudly, still shocked. "This is a very good surprise! I-I really don't know what to say! But I'm so happy for you two." Rose and Loki smiled widely.

Just as everyone started their talking and chatting, Natasha and Steve pulled Loki to a corner with a serious look. "Did she tell you about last night's incident?" Steve asked, his voice low. Loki nodded, his brows pulled down in suppressed rage. "Yes. She had some kind of flashback from her past. She was merely a three or four years old when her nanny was burnt alive in front of her. The lady had tried to sneak her out of Hydra." Steve's jaws fell in shock and Natasha rubbed her temples, a fraustrated look on her face.

"Anything more?" Loki hummed. "She's traumatized. I don't know what to do. Whenever she is gradually becoming happier something happens that dampens her mental progress. She was crying. She said she is scared for all of us as she thinks we might die because of her. It breaks my heart to see her like this." Loki said, his throat tightening with emotions.

They turned their heads towards Rose to find her chatting happily with Clint, Bruce, Tony and Thor. Bruce has brought her an ice pack for her bruises while Tony was saying something that made her laugh and blush pink. They were teasing Thor about something and the poor thunderer was pouting. Natasha sighed. "We are trying our best too. To keep her happy." "We can hope for the best." Steve added, patting Loki's shoulder. Loki gave him a small smile that didn't reach his eyes.

"And what is wipe?" Loki asked. Natasha and Steve shared a look. "What wipe? Are you talking about?" Steve asked back. "A man had ordered to wipe Rose just after he burned the lady. What is this wipe?"

"It means that her memory was wiped clean without any trace of past. But as much I know... The process is difficult to reverse." Natasha mused. "Drugs?" Loki offered out of nowhere but Natasha's eyes twinkled. "God! Loki you're genius! How can I forget about it? Maybe the drugs injected into her by that Mark has to do something with it."

"Is it a good thing that she is recalling the forgotten things again?" Steve asked. Both Loki and Natasha shrugged. "It completely depends upon her." Natasha said.

"Guys! What are you doing here?" Rose hopped towards them. Immediately, they all put on a simple smile. "Nothing. Just... nothing." Loki said, kissing her nose. It looked like she was going to question again but didn't. "Alright! I'm making waffles today. So Steve, come with me and help me."

"As you say, madam." Steve saluted her making her giggle. Loki bit back his smile seeing her happy. Oh how badly he wanted to see her smiling and laughing like this all day long instead of crying. "Can I help you too?" Loki offered with an innocent smile. Rose clicked her tongue.

"Look Lemon, I love you so much but I don't trust you in the kitchen. So stay here with the rest and wait for my waffles." Loki pouted but Rose caught his bottom lip and gave it a tug. "And maybe if you behave then..." She grinned mischievously, "I'll make you cupcakes too."

Loki's eyes glinted. "Oh my darling! I'll be the best behaved boy in the whole universe just for your cupcakes. Will I get ten atleast?" Rose grinned and kissed his nose. "As much as you want but... You won't snatch from Thor's plate. Promise?" Steve and Natasha laughed softly seeing Loki frown. "Alright! Fine! Promise..."
