Things Go Wonderfully Right (Or Horribly Wrong)
05:29, 21 April 2022Grabbing a bag that Mirabel had sewn you from a drawer near the window, you stuffed it with some of your belongings. To prevent over-packing, you decided to only pack essentials.
Where were you going? You were going to get out of here. Staying here would only bring Casita and the family harm, and you didn't want that.
After losing your parents, you wouldn't be able to bear losing more of the people you loved. And the only reason you were losing people... was because of your own self.
Your parents died trying to find the answer to why you had powers. And now the Madrigal family was also going to if you didn't get out of here quick.
You couldn't bear to lose anyone else. Especially... Camilo.
You couldn't afford to lose another person whom you had loved most in this world. If that happened, you wouldn't even know how to handle or cope with that. You wouldn't be able to live with yourself.
So, to prevent these events from happening, you were going to leave the encanto and never return. Good idea? Yes... but also no.
It hurt to think you'd be leaving the people you loved and cared for. The only people who cared and took you in as one of their own when you had nobody else to go to... But it was for the best.
The thought of it made tears of frustration spill from your eyes. Wiping your tears away with your sleeve, you checked your bag.
Satisfied with the amount of essentials you packed, you stood up and walked towards the door.
As you took one last glance around the room, the memories flooded into your head. You made so many fun memories in this room.
Exhaling, you opened and shut the door gently as to not make any noise or to alert anyone nearby.
Making a sharp turn to the bathroom, you decided you were going to take one last quick look at yourself in the mirror. But it was then when you remembered all the past encounters you've had in that room.
It would be quick, you thought. In and out and you'll be on your way.
Rushing toward the bathroom, you opened the door and closed it. You then turned on the lights, which illuminated the room.
You gasped when you saw your reflection in the mirror. The same black mark from earlier... it had spread everywhere, past your neck, arms, and hands.
Why didn't Mirabel tell you before when you both were in front of Isabela's door? Had she not seen it?
Completely shivering in disgust, you ignored it and quickly washed your face. The sooner you left, the safer this family would be. Looking up in the mirror, you shrieked when you saw your corrupted form again.
She smirked and giggled at your reaction. "Tick tock, (Y/N)..." She sang, disappearing from your sight and back into the depths of the mirror.
Upon her disappearance, you saw as the continuing growth of the black mark had spread up past your ears.
Widening your eyes, you grabbed onto the doorknob and twisted it, but didn't open the door. You stood there for a moment, every moment spent with the Madrigals flashing before your eyes.
Sighing, you whispered, "Goodbye, Casita." and opened the door.
Turning off the lights, you stuck your head out the door, seeing if you were all clear to go.
Closing the door, you dashed toward the stairs and peered over the breezeway railing. Checking to see if the coast was clear, you made your way downstairs.
Darting across the courtyard, you were almost at the front doors when someone grabbed you. Startled, you shrieked, tensing up in the person's grasp.
"(Y/N)!" The voice yelled, turning you around to face them. It was Camilo...
"Camilo..." You muttered, slowly hiding the bag behind your back.
"Where have you been? I've been worried sick." He told you, cupping your face in his hands.
Inspecting your face, he noticed the spreading black mark.
"What's on your face?" He asked, putting his hands on your shoulders and taking a closer look.
"I-I..." You couldn't form any words. "Camilo, I need to go."
Struggling to get out of his hold, his grip on you only tightened.
"Why? Where are you going?" He questioned, finally noticing the bag you hid behind your back. "Are you... leaving?"
Tears pricked your eyes, and they threatened to fall. You tried so hard to blink them back, but they only blurred your vision. And eventually, they fell down your face.
"You're leaving... me?" He muttered, searching your eyes.
"It--It's for your own good." You choked on your words. "For the sake of the family, as well."
"W-Why? What's happening to the family?" He furrowed his brows, confusion evident in his eyes.
You could only stare at him through teary eyes. "I... I'm sorry, Camilo."
Yanking yourself from out of his grip, you backed away, only to back up into someone else. Gasping, you turned around to see Luisa.
"You're leaving us? Why?..." She asked, staring down at you.
Her eyes widened when she saw your face. The spreading black mark caught her eye, as it was almost close to consuming your entire face.
Dolores heard what was happening and watched silently from up top on the breezeway.
"It's... It's too difficult to explain, but I need to leave." You stepped to the side and tried to walk around her, but she only stepped in your way.
Camilo also walked over to Luisa's side, the both of them acting as a blockade.
"Guys, you don't understand. I have to go!" You glared up at both of them.
"Why?" Luisa questioned. "Why are you leaving? Does it have anything to do with what's happening to your face?"
"It does." You lied, only saying that to get out of the house as quick as you could. You honestly did not know what the black mark was and what it was doing to you.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be on my way." You attempted to push your way through the both of them, but they wouldn't let you.
"That doesn't answer our questions. What is it that's happening to the family? What's happening to you?" Camilo asked, concerned.
The three of you argued back and forth with each other, Camilo and Luisa still not letting you leave. And as you three argued, you were all unaware of the events that were taking place on the rooftops of Casita.
It was when it started raining flowers you stumbled on your own feet. The most head-splitting headache you've ever had was hitting you.
"(Y/N)!" Camilo yelled, holding out his arms to catch you just in case you fell.
Luckily, you didn't, but tears from your eyes did.
"It... hurts..." Your voice strained as you held your head.
After hugging in front of the candle, it burned and glowed brighter than ever.
But after a few seconds, the candle flickered and dimmed as if it was almost close to extinguishing.
But Isabela and Mirabel didn't notice that, as they had already left the windowsill. They swung on vines from roof to roof, and then they came falling from the sky.
Camilo saw this and quickly tackled you, pushing you out of the way just in time.
"Agh!" You shouted, having the wind knocked out of you. You landed on the floor on your back with Camilo on top of you.
"Are you okay?" He asked, sitting up by your side and examining your condition.
You didn't respond and only continued to lie on the ground, covering your face with your hands.
Isabela and Mirabel landed on the flower bed, bursting into fits of laughter.
"You're a bad influence." Isabela laughed, flicking a flower at Mirabel.
Bursting through the front door, Abuela yelled angrily. "What is going on?"
They gasped and hastily sat up, Mirabel holding out her hands in defense.
"Abuela? It's okay!" She quickly reassured. "Everything's... We're gonna save the miracle. The magic-"
"What are you talking about? Look at our home! Look at your sister!" Abuela shouted, noticing the state Isabela was in.
"Please, just... Isabela wasn't happy." Mirabel tried to explain. "And she just-" She was cut off once more.
"Of course she isn't happy. You ruined her proposal." Abuela argued.
"No, no, no. She needed me to ruin her proposal. And then we did all this!" Mirabel smiled, gesturing to the colorfully decorated house decorated with Isabela's plants.
Abuela grunted at the sight.
"And the candle burned brighter," Mirabel continued. "and the cracks-"
"Mirabel." She called.
"That's why I'm in Bruno's new vision! I'm helping to save the miracle!" Mirabel continued.
"You have to stop, Mirabel!" Abuela shouted furiously.
She only stared at Abuela, her smile disappearing.
"The cracks started with you. Bruno left because of you. Luisa's losing her powers. Isabela's out of control. Because of you!" She blamed.
Rumbling from within the house became more perceptible.
"I don't know why you weren't given a gift, but it is not an excuse for you to hurt this family."
Mirabel began to breathe heavily as the cracks in the house grew louder.
You let out a tiny sound, which grabbed Camilo, Luisa, and Isabela's attention.
"(Y/N)? Are you alright?" Camilo asked, thinking that the sound he heard was a sob.
He gently shook your arm, but you didn't answer him. You only continued to "sob" in your hands.
"I will never be good enough for you. Will I?" Mirabel questioned, tears forming in her eyes.
"No matter... how hard I try." She said, her voice breaking. "No matter how hard... any of us tries."
She held out her arm, gesturing to her family members. "Luisa will never be strong enough. Isabela won't be perfect enough. Bruno left our family because you only saw the worst in him."
Abuela disagreed. "Bruno didn't care about this family."
"He loves this family." Mirabel shot back. "I love this family. We all love this family. You're the one that doesn't care."
The house and the ground cracked, much like the cracks that led to your parents' death. People in the village exclaimed at the frightening sight, running to safety.
"You're the one breaking our home." Mirabel accused.
"Don't you ever-" Abuela tried to say, but Mirabel stopped her.
"The miracle is dying, because of you." She said, earning a soft gasp from Abuela.
Your "sobs" were now distinct and loud enough for everyone in the house to hear, but they realized soon after... it wasn't sobbing.
It was laughter.
