Preparation

05:27, 21 April 2022

Since Abuela had abandoned you two, Mirabel did her best to carry you all by herself. Stopping for a quick breather, she continued walking to the dining area where her mother was.

Camilo, who was on his way to go help some other people, spotted you two. Seeing the state you were in brought him great worry and concern. He figured that helping you first was more important, so he rushed over to you two.

"What happened to her?" He asked Mirabel, very much concerned about you and your well-being.

"Long story short, she got into a fight with some older kids." She answered him, grunting as beads of sweat formed on her forehead.

He only nodded and helped her carry your body over to the dining area. And by the time you guys got there, Mirabel's mother had just finished making the arepas.

"Ah, Mirabel, Camilo, perfect timing." Tía Julieta placed the steaming hot arepas on a plate and also grabbed a cup of water, just in case.

Sitting you down in a chair, Tía Julieta placed the plate and cup on the table.

Mirabel stood there, thinking, before saying something. "Okay so, she's out cold. How are we gonna get her to eat those?"

The three of them stood there, now wondering how they were going to get you to eat the arepas.

"I guess we're just gonna have to wake her up." She shrugged.

Mirabel stared at her mother for a moment, which got her attention, and then gestured at the glass of water.

"No, mi vida, we are not drowning her." Tía Julieta crossed her arms.

Mirabel groaned and placed both of her hands on your shoulders, shaking you lightly.

"(Y/N)~" She sang, waiting for a reaction from you.

Nothing.

She proceeded to slap you lightly on the good side of your face, which seemed to work since you started moving a bit. Another idea popped into Mirabel's head, but it was risky.

"Please don't kill me for this, (Y/N)." Mirabel whispered before putting a lot of pressure on the swollen and bruised part of your face.

Your face scrunched up in pain, but you were still unconscious. Mirabel added more pressure, and you winced in pain, slowly regaining consciousness.

"Oww. What the heck?..." You whined, the pain from your cheek and head instantly hitting you.

"Oh, good, you're awake. You're not dead." Mirabel exhaled.

Camilo also sighed in relief. Who knows what he'd do if something actually terrible happened to you? He just couldn't bear the thought of it.

Tía Julieta took an arepa from the plate, grabbed your hand, and placed the arepa in it.

"Here, (Y/N), eat this. It'll make you feel better." She said, watching as you ate the arepa at a slow pace.

Your eyes widened.

The pain you felt on the side of your face had disappeared immediately, but your headache was still there. So, you took another bite, hoping for the headache to go away, but the headache remained.

"Careful, now. Don't choke." Tía Julieta grabbed the cup of water and handed it to you.

"Thanks." You muttered, drinking the entire thing. It seemed to help a bit, but it just wouldn't go away.

"Thank you, Tía Julieta." You said, properly thanking her.

"Of course. How are you feeling now?" She asked you.

"My headache is still here. It just... won't go away. But other than that, I'm feeling pretty great." You smiled, carefully standing up.

You finished eating the arepa and pushed in the chair. Camilo went up behind you, placing out his arms for support.

"Oh, hey, Camilo." You smiled, holding onto his arm.

"You sure you're okay?" Mirabel questioned, wanting to confirm.

"Yeah, why?" You asked.

"Well, it's just that... the food my mother makes can heal people's injuries." She said. "And, well, that you ate an entire arepa and your headache's still there..." She trailed off on her sentence.

"I'm sure it's fine. It'll go away soon." You assured her.

Mirabel and her mother looked at each other with unsureness.

"Alright then. If you say so." Mirabel said, taking your word for it.

"Now that (Y/N) is feeling better, you kids should go help set up the decorations for Antonio's ceremony. We only have a few more hours until the guests arrive." Tía Julieta mentioned.

"Oh, right! Mirabel, Camilo, let's go!" You hurried, rushing out of the dining room.

She laughed, happy knowing that you were feeling better than before. "Alright, alright."

You slowed down a bit, still a bit tired from the incident earlier. It also gave Mirabel and Camilo time to catch up with you. As they both caught up with you, you took this time to talk to Camilo.

"Hey, Camilo." You whispered, intertwining your fingers with his.

You made sure that you weren't as loud, so that Mirabel didn't hear you. Though, it wasn't Mirabel whom you should've been worrying about, but someone else...

Camilo blushed at the sudden action and turned his head away momentarily to hide it. Holding up your entwined hands, he kissed the backside of yours, making you blush as well.

"Hey, amor. You're alright now, right?" He asked you, genuinely worried.

You nodded. "I am, now that you're here."

He smiled and swung your hands back and forth. "That's good." He said.

Camilo looked up and saw the group of people that he was going to help earlier.

"Hey, I'm going to go help some people set up decorations. I'll talk to you later, though, okay?" He let go of your hand, kissing your forehead.

A frown appeared on your face. "Don't go." You whispered under your breath, but loud enough for him to hear.

"Don't worry, mi alma. I'll only be away for a little while." He reassured you.

"Hm, alright. I'll see you later, then." You said, watching as he sprinted towards the group of people.

"Hm? What was that all about?" Mirabel asked, seeing as how Camilo "abandoned" you guys. First Abuela, and now Camilo.

"Oh, nothing. He said he was going to go help set up the decorations." You told her.

Mirabel hummed in response.

As the both of you walked past the front door, there was a sudden knock. You stopped in your tracks, looking at Mirabel, who stared back at you.

It finally clicked in her head. "Oh, right! I bought decorations."

Opening the door, there stood the delivery man, who carried an enormous basket in his hands.

"Hey, Mirabel, (Y/N)! Here are the supplies you ordered." The delivery man said, handing the basket over to Mirabel.

"I gave you the special since you're the only Madrigal kid with no gift. I call it the 'Not Special Special' since, uh, you have no gift." He smiled.

Mirabel forced a grin. "Thanks."

Before he left, he remembered one more thing. "Oh, and tell Antonio good luck. The last gift ceremony was a bummer. Last one being yours that did not work."

"Uh-huh." She said through her grin.

The delivery man left, and you closed the door for Mirabel, since her hands were full.

"Well, that was... something." You spoke, trying to lighten up the mood.

"Certainly was." She agreed as you guys made your way through the crowded house.

You offered to take the load off of Mirabel's hands since she kept bumping into people. But she declined the offer, saying that she got it.

As you both continued walking, you watched as Casita created a stairway in the courtyard. And at the very top, you spotted Camilo leaning against the breezeway railing.

A small smile found its way to your face when you heard him complimenting a helper.

That's when he looked up and saw you.

You waved hello to him and he sent you a wink before Abuela told him that Jose needed help to hold up the banner.

"Luisa, the piano goes upstairs!" Abuela yelled from the second-floor balcony.

Luisa, who was in front of both of you, dropped the barrels she was carrying and went to go attend to the piano.

"I'm on it!" She said, accidentally running into you and Mirabel. "Careful, guys!"

Mirabel, almost dropping the basket, adjusted it so that it wasn't on the verge of slipping out of her hands.

"You sure you got it?" You asked her, receiving a nod.

That's when the sky grew darker, and a sudden wind appeared from out of nowhere.

You and Mirabel grunted as you both struggled to stand your ground. Though, it was difficult since the winds were too powerful.

"My baby's night has to be perfect, and it's not perfect. And people are going to be coming. And nothing's ready." Tía Pepa panicked as she traipsed about the courtyard with a tornado right behind her.

The tornado followed her, sucking up the flowers that decorated the walls and pillars.

Tío Félix appeared and attempted to get his wife to calm down, noticing the chaos she was making. "You're tornado-ing the flowers! The flowers!" He yelled.

"Did someone say flowers?" A voice gleamed from the breezeway.

Tía Pepa finally calmed down, the tornado disappearing as well as the weather clearing up.

A bright ray of light shone directly where Isabela stood. And using her gift, she summoned her flower vines and swung down to the first floor.

The people in the crowd below applauded and cheered collectively.

Mirabel only glared at her and you also stood there, watching as Isabela swung down from the second floor.

This was normal. Very normal.

"Our angel, our angel!" Tío Félix praised as Isabela landed gracefully on the stairs.

"Please, don't clap." She smiled as she handed Tía Pepa a bouquet.

Tía Pepa sighed merrily and accepted the flowers. "Thank you."

"Oh, it's nothing." Isabela responded, flipping her hair over her shoulder, only to have it hit Mirabel in the face.

A bunch of flowers splattered all over her face and she spat out the flowers that went into her mouth.

Isabela scoffed, seeing Mirabel behind her. "A little sisterly advice. If you weren't always trying too hard, you wouldn't be in the way."

"Actually, Isa, this is called helping." Mirabel told her. Isabela rolled her eyes and scoffed again, walking away.

"Um, Mirabel, watch out." You warned her.

"And I'm not in the way. You are-" Mirabel grunted as she ran into a flower decorated pillar.

You had almost burst out laughing, but you contained your laughter. Walking up to her, you chuckled as she backed away from the decorations.

"You okay?" You asked her, taking out a few flowers that were stuck in her hair.

"Ugh, Isabela, always getting on my nerves." She complained. "Come on, let's go back to the kitchen."

"Ah, sister rivalry, such a beautiful thing." You joked.

She rolled her eyes and elbowed your side, causing you to wince slightly. But you laughed it off. And with that, you both headed to the kitchen.
