The call of power
09:52, 28 March 2024-What in the name of Zeus is that? Changbin widened his eyes at the sight of immense roots coming from inside the ground to attack them.
Only a violently alert melody could be heard in the background as they tried to avoid being impaled by the nature itself.
-It's the son of Orpheus, Jeongin explained. He can control nature with his voice just like his father.
-Jisung is still with him, Minho clenched his fists, feeling the fear of losing his loved one creeping in.
-You and I take this guy down. Changbin and Felix go and find Hyunjin. Deal?
-Heared you loud and clear, Birdie, Changbin took Felix and ran away from the scene.
Jeongin looked and Minho before stepping inside the giant forest grown by Chan. They didn't know what to expect, the village was crushed entirely by the lianas and trees, yet they had no choice but to adventure there and search for their friend.
-Jisung? Jisung, please answer me! I beg you! Please!
-Welcome to my haven! Do you like it? Chan showed up from behind.
-Where's Jisung? Minho pointed the sword towards him.
-He actually helped a lot with building this place. I know I am smart enough to remember that the son of Prometheus can amplify our powers.
-Did you know that? Jeongin turned to Minho who looked as shocked as him.
-N-no. He never mentioned that.
-Told you I'm smarter, Chan smirked. I am also benevolent. I let son of Ares go if you fight with me, Jeongin. After all, this is between me and you.
-I'm not leaving without Jisung, Minho replied more heated than ever.
-Very well. It won't be a problem to destroy you both.
The roots rose from the ground and pierced through the air like two arrows aiming for them.
Minho took Jeongin by the wrist and teleported both of them away again and again and again.
-I've got an idea, he pushed Jeongin away as a tree fell between them.
When Chan peeked to see if they were still alive, he was faced with two Jeongins.
-Ah, such an annoying trick, God killer...
One branch was cut by Minho sword while the other dragged Jeongin inside the dark forest where he was locked in a tree prison.
As he looked around to find a way out he felt Prometheus' signature above him.
-Jisung?
-Jeongin? He caught you too?
-Why is he doing this? Did he tell you something?
-He said it's his destiny to kill you. Can you get me down of here? he shifted slightly, afraid not to make the branches tighter around his torso.
-I wish I could... Jeongin tried to think of a solution. Why can't you shrimp out of there?
-The forest is alive. The branches will feel my movement and crush me like a bug. They need to be cut, Jisung explained.
-Well, that kills my plan, Jeongin sighed. It would have been a good moment to have Hyunjin's daggers with me... he mumbled before realizing he still had the shield with him.
He pressed the center button and watched the shield turn into its original shape.
He took a few steps back before attaching the green prison with the sharp iron edges until he cut his way to freedom.
-Get me down! Jisung yelled.
Jeongin looked up and briefly considered flying to his fried. Yet he chose to climb the tree. He couldn't trust his wings in such situations.
After he freed the half titan, he asked him what was next.
-He used me to build this forest. You shall use me too.
-Excuse you?
-Let me give strength to your wings, son of Hermes! Jisung wrapped his hands around Jeongin who froze in shock.
He felt his wings tingling and a wave of power flowing from his head to toe.
Jisung became smaller and smaller until he managed to sit on Jeongin's shoulder.
-Being small takes less energy than being big. It's like a self preservation instinct.
-You titans have really weird rules, Jeongin raised an eyebrow.
-Says the son of Hermes who is afraid of flying.
-Fair enough.
-Give up, son of Ares! Walk away and spare me some trouble. After all, it's not you I shall fight, Chan offered Minho his hand to shake.
-I don't receive orders from a mortal, he refused.
-Then let's see how great you are without your father's sword, a root took the weapon right from Minho's hands, leaving him unarmed.
Suddenly a strong wind hit them both, pushing them away.
-What the- Chan looked up and completely froze when he spotted the source.
Jeongin's wings grew in size to the point one flap was enough to knock down a couple of trees.
His eyes were completely white, blank and yet filled with silent rage.
He dived down and circled the forest until he managed to knock down each tree or plant, destroying Chan's organic prison.
-Looks like son of Hermes is stronger than I thought, Minho got up and stared aback.
-He's just using your boyfriend as a source of energy. That's alright. I can bring the forest back to-
He didn't get to finish before Jeongin attacked him. It all happened in a matter of seconds.
Chan was pushed away into the ground.
Minho was left behind, staring at the withered flowers and their stems on the ground.
It was like he had a green graveyard in front of him. It didn't sit right with him that their fight cost the forest its vigorous state. What would Demeter say about it? Or even his mom...
He kneeled down and tried a little trick he remembered from his mother.
Soon enough his eyes turned into a neon green that rushed through his veins and gave life to a new forest.
-Jeongin, I don't have any more energy, Jisung warned the god.
Jeongin felt his wings becoming smaller. He stepped aside and fell to his knees, feeling the power getting drained out of his body.
Jisung returned to his normal size, feeling his head hurt.
-What is your problem? Jeongin asked Chan.
-Mine? You almost chocked me to death!
-You attacked us first! What did I do to you?
-I just followed the deal!
-What deal?
-Hermes's deal. He let my mom out of the Underworld in exchange of me fighting you.
-Huh? What are you talking about?
-Didn't your father tell you about it?
-My father wouldn't tell me if it was another war breaking in Olympus. He doesn't care about me.
-Huh... Well, then-
4 roots rose from the mud and caught Chan in their thorn trap. Minho stepped forward and smirked satisfied.
-You did that? Jeongin asked confused.
-Sure I did. It's easier than I thought, Minho looked at his hands and smirked proudly. Did you see it, Jisung? he asked excited. Jisung... his smile slowly faded as he realized the son of Prometheus was rather disappointed than happy for him.
-You promised...
-Yes, but look! I can control mom's powers! Maybe I can find her and-
-Join her? Is that what you want? Jisung got up angered. We talked about this.
-I refuse to stand beside Ares, Minho caught Jisung's wrist and squeezed it lightly.
-Fine! Go and became whatever you need! I'm out here!
-Where are you going?
-To the Underworld! he ran away, not giving Minho a chance to stop him.
-What a drama, Chan rolled his eyes before receiving a punch in the face.
-You shut up! Don't ever talk to... anyone, Jeongin said before dropping to the ground.
He was a bit dizzy, a bit tired and 100% euphoric from the power Jisung had given him. It was like he finally understood the limits of Hermes's powers. And he liked it.
