Chapter 14: Checkmate

(ZAYNS POV)

-riiiiing riiiiing-

the college bell clanged, signaling the end of all the classes. YES. Art class was our last class of the day, so both me and Kayla were going to have to walk together back to the dorm.

"College has to much homework." Kayla groaned, lugging her backpack onto her chair.

"Oh my gosh, we have the same backpack!" I cried, sounding unfortunately like some teenage girl (a/n: don't hate me, I'm a teenage girl too😜).

"Oh, yeah." Kayla replied with a smile.

"As long as we don't mix them up, we're good. You steal my stuff, ill bring out my inner ninja." she grinned.

God, that lopsided grin of hers is adorable...did I just call her adorable? Oops...I meant, erm...okay, so she's adorable, and I like her. A little. FINE, a lot. But there's absolutely no chance of this working out. I'm only here for a short summer, and she's here for like 4 years. I travel the world, while she stays here in America. As much as I wish it could work out, I know it won't.

Which is why I'm trying as hard as I can to stamp out any feelings I have for Kayla. Snapping myself out of my deep thoughts, I smiled at her as Kayla finished zipping up her backpack and slung it across her shoulder.

She grinned her cute lopsided grin, gripping my hand in a friendly way as she pulled me out of the classroom on the way to the dorm. Her touch send shivers up my spine and butterflies erupted throughout my stomach. Kayla Wood, you are not making this any easier for me.
