Chapter 15
05:55, 28 January 2014Around two hours later Jess and I were finally ready and out in her car on the way to see her parents. I wasn’t particularly nervous about meeting them but I did want everything to go perfectly and so I was really giving myself a mental pep talk as Jess drove. Evidently if would take us about an hour to get there so I figured that would be plenty of time to sort of prepare.
Meanwhile, Jess had the radio on and was currently singing along to the songs that played. It surprised me at first but I loved every second. Her voice really was amazing. I stared out the window and let my mind wander as I listened to Jess sing.
“Are you sure you’re okay with this?” Jess piped up a few minutes later. She was probably mistaking my silence for unease but that just wasn’t the case.
“Of course I am. Your parents sound really nice from what you’ve said. I’m not worried,” I said flashing a genuine smile.
“Yeah? Maybe you should be,” she started, a smirk already showing itself. “I’m the baby so that makes me the favorite.”
“I’ll keep that in mind,” I said as I leaned over and kissed her cheek.
----------------------------------------------
A little over an hour later we were finally parked in front of her parents’ house. I’ll admit, I was starting to feel a bit of nerves but it wasn’t the bad kind. I was actually kind of excited to meet them so I was starting to feel a little anxious now that it was actually happening.
“You ready, babe?” she asked as she squeezed my hand that was already clasped to hers.
“Of course.”
We got out and Jess walked over to me, holding my hand in hers as we walked up to the door. Before we were even halfway there I saw a woman come out and quickly make her way down to meet us. I could tell immediately that is was Jess’s mom. The resemblance made it way too obvious.
“Well, long time no see,” she said to Jess jokingly as she pulled her into a hug. She spotted me over Jess’s shoulder as I was standing slightly behind her and immediately let go of Jess.
“Is this the absolutely stunning Elena my daughter won’t keep quiet about?”
“Mum!” I could see Jess blushing slightly and it made me laugh at how both Jess’s mom and her friends were trying to embarrass her upon our first meeting.
“Yeah, that might be me,” I laughed as she hugged me as well.
“It’s nice to finally meet you. Let’s go inside it’s freezing out here,” she said as she pulled away.
“So, I’m stunning am I?” I smirked as I playfully nudged Jess while we were walking.
“Maybe just a little,” she said before lightly kissing me on the cheek.
A few minutes later Jess and I were settled in the living room with her mom. They were having some conversation while my eyes wandered around the room, looking at the dozens of photos on the walls and tables. There were a ton of pictures of Jess from when she was younger along with her sisters and I loved how there were so many memories on display here.
“So, Elena, how are you liking it here?” Rose asked, pulling my attention back to them.
“I love it here,” I replied honestly. “I never thought I would like being away from home but I really do.”
She was about to reply when we suddenly heard the front door open and close. A man came in, who I assume was Jess’s dad.
“Dad!” Jess jumped up from her spot next to me and ran over to him.
I was introduced to him, as her girlfriend I might add, which sounded amazing. Both Jess’s parents seem great. I honestly can’t recall ever meeting people nicer than them. After the introductions, Jess’s dad who I learned was named Stephen, Jess walked out to help him carry in some groceries he’d picked up leaving me alone with Rose.
I heard Rose clear her throat as she got up and walked over to sit in the spot Jess was previously occupying. She smiled kindly at me before she started speaking quietly.
“Jessica told me about what happened. Well, what you told her that forced you to move and I just want you to know that you can consider us your family. That’s if you’d like to of course. You seem like a lovely person, Elena, especially from what Jessica’s told us.”
“I’d love that. Thank you,” I said as she hugged me lightly.
“I know you two haven’t been together long but I just feel like Jessica’s made a good choice. I can tell that you really care for my daughter. She’s been used so much in the past and I’ve just been so worried about her.”
“You don’t have to worry,” I assured her. “I don’t intend to ever hurt her. Honestly, she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
We heard the door open then and Rose got up to help put away what was bought. Jess came over and sat back down next to me, smiling from ear to ear.
“They like you,” she said before kissing me lightly on the lips.
“I like them too,” I said genuinely. I already felt like this was going to be the beginning of something amazing. I felt like I was finally part of a family in a small way and that was enough for me.
-----------------------------------------------
Jess and I spent a few hours with her parents and headed back to hers fairly early. They were absolutely amazing and I could see where Jess got her kindness from. Stephen did end up having that typical “dad” talk with me but it was in a joking manner. I found it hilarious but Jess on the other hand was so embarrassed it made it even better. She wouldn’t stop apologizing to me over it even when I kept assuring her that it was fine and I thought her dad was great.
“So I thought that went well,” Jess said as we were getting ready for bed later.
“Yeah. I’m glad we went. Your parents are really nice,” I replied.
I slipped under the covers with Jess and cuddled up to her, feeling content with my life. I felt like I had everything I could possibly want right now.
“So, I have a question,” Jess piped up after a few minutes of silence.
I sat up slightly and rested my head against my hand so that I could look at her.
“What is it?” I asked, noticing the hesitation.
“Could I like, I don’t know, take you on a date tomorrow?” she asked, looking at me cautiously.
“I—“ I started to say something but Jess cut me off before I had the chance.
“Like, I know we sort of went about this backwards and I know it’s hard to be out in public with me but I don’t know, I just thought—“ She was rambling again like she always does when she gets nervous.
“Jess, stop,” I said, laughing. “I’d love to go out on a date with you. I would’ve asked first but I don’t even know what there is to do around here.”
Jess squealed excitedly and literally jumped on top of me, straddling me at the waist. She bent down and I felt her lips swipe over mine ever so slightly before kissing me fully. My arms went around her waist, pulling her fully down on top of me as her fingers tangled in my hair.
“You’re perfect, you know that?” I said when we finally broke away.
“I’m far from perfect,” she said as she tucked my hair behind my ear. I leaned up and kissed her one last time before she laid her head on my shoulder, tucking her face in the crook of my neck slightly.
“Let me rephrase that then. You’re perfect to me.”
A/N Sorry for the long wait! I just haven't felt up to writing this week unfortunately.
Okay so like. My main goal for this story when I started it was to give it a lot of build up and keep it detailed and whatever but now I've noticed that I've gone almost 20 chapters with nothing happening which I never intended (whoops!). I promise it will start to get more interesting now that I'm starting to get the ball rolling and hopefully I can update faster as well.
So thank you guys again for sticking with me and giving me feedback!
