The Monster and the Superhero, Part 2

3rd Person's POV

They were glad to have found none other than Nancy Wheeler at the crime scene, that way they wouldn't have to interact with the police. They sat down at a table with Nancy leaving Eddie all alone in the trunk, hoping to God he wouldn't get caught.

"So you're saying that this thing that killed Fred and Chrissy, it's from the upside down?" Nancy asks.

"Our working theory is that he attacks with a spell or a curse? Now whether or not he's doing the bidding of the Mind Flayer or just loves killing teens, we don't know." Dustin shrugs.

"All we know is that this is something different." Max says, "Something new."

"Doesn't make sense." Nancy shakes her head.

"It's only a theory." Valerie says.

"No, Fred and Chrissy don't make sense. I mean, why them?"

"Maybe they were just in the wrong place?" Dustin suggests, "They were both at the game."

"And near the trailer park." Max frowns.

"We're at the trailer park..." Steve croaks out, "Uh, should we maybe not be here?"

"There is something about this place. Fred started acting weird the second we got here."

"Acting weird as in?"

"Scared, on edge, upset?"

"Max said Chrissy was upset too." Dustin says.

"Yeah but not here, she was crying at the bathroom in school."

"Serial killers stalk their prey before they strike right?" Valerie raises her eyebrows, "So maybe Fred and Chrissy saw Vecna before?"

"I don't know about you guys but if I saw some freaky wizard monster, I would mention it to someone." Steve says.

"Maybe they did. I saw Chrissy leaving Ms.Kelley's office. If you saw a monster, you... you wouldn't go to the police. They'd never believe you. But you might go to your shrink." Max says.

Everyone nodded and stood up, it was time to visit Ms.Kelley's.

When they reached the car however Steve noticed Nancy going the other direction, "Whoa, whoa, Nance? Nance! Where you going?"

Nancy turned to look at him, "Oh, there's just something I wanna check on first."

"Something you maybe wanna share with the rest of us?" Valerie says.

"I don't wanna waste your time. It's a real shot in the dark." Nancy looks at the ground.

"Yeah, okay. Are you out of your mind?" Steve glares at her, "Flying solo with Vecna on the loose? No it's too dangerous. You need.. you need someone to..."

He throws the keys to Valerie, "Here, I'll stick with Nance. You guys take the car, check out the shrink."

Valerie passes Robin a look.

Robin gives her a small smirk, "How about we ladies stick together." She walks over to Nancy, "Unless you think we need you to protect us."

Steve gives her a tight smile, knowing he lost.

Robin grins and walks away.

"Be careful!" Steve yells after them.

"Just gonna stand there and gawk?" Dustin and Valerie laughed at him.

"Shut up." Steve groans.

They get in the car, with Steve as the driver and Valerie beside him.

"Always the babysitter. Always the goddamn babysitter!" Steve yells.

"Hey man, I'm not a baby." Eddie pops his head out from the trunk.

Steve scrunches his eyebrows and looks at him, and then at Valerie.

Valerie shrugs, "Neither am I."

"So, uh, what happened?" Eddie asks.

And so Dustin told him everything, right up until they arrived at Ms.Kelley's house. Max got off the car to find out whatever she could.

Which left Valerie, Dustin, Steve and Eddie in the car.

"Okay, she's in." Steve says, referring to Max.

"I'm missing collarbones, not eyes." Dustin mutters.

"We going to talk about it Harrington?" Valerie says.

"Huh? Talk about what?" Steve turns to look at her.

"Your temporary insanity earlier today?" Dustin gave a disgusted look from the back seat.

"Yeah when you basically threw yourself at Nancy?" Valerie added.

"Okay, that's not what happened." Steve shakes his head.

"Pretty sure that's what happened." Eddie pops his head out again, "What, just because I was in the trunk you think I don't see anything? I see everything. I had my eyes on you Harrington." Although he looked towards Valerie when he said it.

"It was embarrassing man, so many witnesses." Valerie scowls at him but agrees nonetheless.

"Are you guys implying I still have a thing for Nance?"

"No we're not implying. We're stating.

"I was just trying to protect a friend."

Everyone just stared at him.

"A friend Hendersons, okay? I don't wanna find her with her eyes sucked out of her skull by this Vecna creep."

"Aw, you're blushing." Valerie pouts at him.

"No, I'm not. I don't wanna talk about it. I'll punch you."

"Oh yeah? Try me Harrington." Valerie crosses her arms over her chest.

Steve took one look at her and sighed. Valerie could probably knock him out in under a minute.

Suddenly Max opens the backdoor and climbs in.

"What'd she say?" Eddie asks.

"Nothing, just drive."

"Nothing?" Steve turns.

"Steve, drive."

"Okay. He frowns but starts the car anyways.

"Dustin? It's Lucas. Do you copy? Dustin-"

"Lucas? Where the hell have you been?" Dustin picks up the walkie-talkie.

"Just listen, are you guys looking for Eddie?"

"Yeah we found him no thanks to you."

"You found him?"

"A boathouse on Coal Mill Road. Don't worry, he's safe. He's with us."

"You guys know he killed Chrissy right?"

"That's bullshit. Eddie tried to save Chrissy."

"Then why do all the cops say he did it?"

"You should know better than to believe the damn police, Sinclair." Valerie grabs the walkie from Dustin.

Max takes it from Valerie's hand, "Lucas, you're so behind it's ridiculous, okay? Just meet us at the school. We'll explain later."

"I.. I can't I think some real bad shit's about to go down."

"What are you talking about? What bad shit? Lucas? Lucas?"

It went static.

"Whatever just drive." Max puts the walkie down.

"Guys, can I come with you?" Eddie asks just as the car comes to a stop at Hawkins High.

"I mean it's dark and nobody's gonna be at the school now, so.." Dustin trails off looking at everybody else for confirmation. Nobody seemed to mind.

"Great cause it's been real sweaty in the trunk all day." He says, as Dustin opens the trunk and finally lets him out.

They were walking down the dark hallways with Max leading the way. Dustin walked with Steve, and behind them Eddie walked next to Valerie. Because when has he ever left her side?

Valerie, although would never admit it, was actually thankful for the company. If it was one thing she didn't like it was the dark. Somehow that fear completely slipped her mind at Rick's shed, probably because she was too busy being annoyed by Eddie.

"Valerie?"

"Hm?"

"Think you can tutor me after all this is over? I mean you're all smart and nerdy and shit, and I'd really like to graduate this time."

"Are you making excuses to spend more time with me, Munson?"

Eddie looked at her, gave her a mischievous little smile before walking into Ms.Kelley's room.

"Fred was seeing Ms.Kelley too." Max said, holding a file in her hand.

She sat down in a chair, staring at the file intently.

She had been doing so for a bit too long.

Dustin looked at everyone else before putting a hand on Max's shoulder, "Max what is it? Max? Max?"
