3rd Person's pov

"Then there's Heidi tomorrow night, but the problem with Heidi is that she's going out of state for college. So it's like do I really wanna start another realtionship that has no point other than sex? I mean I don't know. Does that make sense to you guys?" Steve stops when he realizes neither girl was paying any attention to him.

"Valerie and Robin are you even listening?"

"Uh, yes." Robin stops applying her mascara.

"What did I just say?"

"Something about sex with Linda."

Steve scoffs at her and turns his neck to look at Valerie.

She removes her headphones, "Stacy? Malorie?" Steve glares at her, "No?" She gives him a sheepish grin.

"No! I'm talking about Heidi."

"Cut me some slack, please. Your love life is one of labyrinthine complexity and it is 7:00 in the morning we have the stupid pep rally, and I woke up looking like a corpse."

"You're worried about a basketball pep rally, you expect us to believe that?" Valerie speaks up from the back.

"Yeah? So?"

"So we all know what this is about." Steve shares a look with Valerie, "We don't buy any of your bullshit, this is about Vickie."

"Absolutely not."

"Yes it is and you know what else?" Valerie jumps in.

"I really don't care-"

"You gotta stop pretending to be someone else when you're around her. You just gotta be yourself."

"You're literally quoting me to me. You do realize that?"

"Maybe you need to listen to yourself. Ever think about that smartypants?" Steve plays along with Valerie, "I mean I listened to you and look at me. Boom. Back in business."

"It's not the same thing. You ask out a girl and she says no. Big deal, maybe your ego's a little bruised. But I ask out the wrong girl and bam, I'm a town pariah."

"Except Vickie is definitely not the wrong girl. She returned Fast Times paused at 53 minutes, 5 seconds. You know who pauses Fast Times at 53 minutes and 5 seconds?"

"People who like boobies." Valerie snickers.

"Ew, gross. Don't say boobies."

"It's not a big deal. You like boobies, I like boobies. Vickie definitely likes boobies."

Robin shakes her head in defeat.

The car comes to a halt. Hawkins High School. Those were the good old days, Valerie thinks. Or atleast they used to be, until three years ago when everything changed. Since then it's all been demogorgons and mind flayers.

The numerous people rushing past her snap her out of her thoughts.

Steve puts an arm around her shoulder, with Robin to his left as they make their way to the pep rally.

Growing up she had been best friends with Nancy Wheeler, seeing as their younger brothers were friends as well. Then came highschool, when Nancy started dating Steve 'The Hair' Harrington.

Valerie didn't approve at first, she thought he was a douchebag. Which he admittedly was back then. But he grew on her overtime, as she realized underneath all that hair he was just a huge dork.

But just as Valerie was finally coming around to Steve, Barbara Holland died. Valerie wasn't close to Barb, but Nancy was. And it changed her. Nancy liked to pretend that it didn't but Valerie could see through her.

Nancy grew distant from Valerie and Steve, which was okay with Valerie. Everyone reacted differently to grief. But she felt bad for Steve, because he too could feel Nancy slipping away from him no matter how much he tried to hold their relationship together.

Nancy snapped one day. Broke up with Steve while she was under the influence, claiming their relationship was 'bullshit' as Steve had told Valerie the next day. And even though Nancy left them, she left them both with eachother. Steve and Valerie had been friends ever since.

Steve also somehow became friends with her younger brother Dustin, which however weird was still adorable to her.

Robin soon came into the picture after they graduated highschool. And between working at scoops ahoy, to invading a secret Russian base, Steve developing a crush and later realizing Robin was gay, they had become a trio.

Valerie wouldn't change a thing.

"Good luck." Steve and Valerie tell Robin, as she makes her way beside Vickie.

Steve and Valerie take a seat. The cheerleaders were performing their routine, and Steve was staring a bit too intently.

Valerie hit him in the back of his head.

"Ouch." He whines, just as the Tigers came out.

The blonde guy, Jason, grabbed a mic as the crowd erupted into cheers.

His speech was fine until he decided to start talking about how tough the year had been for Hawkins and all the lives lost.

"Think of Jack, think of Melissa, think of Heather, think about Billy, think of Josh-"

Valerie felt her jaw clench. Steve gave her a worried glance from her right, but she chose to ignore it.

"-think about our heroic police chief, Jim Hopper! What did they die for? For us to lose to some crap school?"

"I can't believe the crowd is buying into his bullshit. Hopper definitely didn't die for some fucking basketball game." Valerie scoffs, leaning towards Steve.

"I was never this obnoxious was I?" Steve asks her.

At that she smiles, "Not this much, no."

After the pep rally was over Steve and Robin left together to work at their store. Valerie put her headphones on again, getting ready to walk to her house.

A hand suddenly tugged on her's, she turned around.

"Hey Val." He shined his pearly whites at her.

She lowered her headphones to her neck, "Hey Dustybun, spill it."

"Spill what?" He put on his best baby face.

"What do you want?" She raises an eyebrow at him.

Instead of directly saying it, he puts his hands on both ends of his shirt and pulls it apart to reveal the T-shirt underneath. It had a stupid red devil with huge horns and Hellfire Club written on top of it.

"Okay-..." She raised her arms to put her headphones on again.

"No! wait- just listen to me." Dustin pulls her arms back down.

"I'm giving you 30 seconds buddy."

So Dustin blabbered on, quite proudly, about his hellfire club, D&D campaign, how Lucas was busy and how she was supposed to fill in for him.

"And if I play do I get one of those cool T-shirts?"

Dustin laughs excitedly, "Yes?!"

"Really?" Valerie grins.

"Everyone gets a T-shirt! We make 'em ourselves, and if you-" he pauses midway when he realizes how ridiculous his sister looked with how much she was nodding her head along, almost beaming.

When Dustin stops rambling she returns to making a straight face, "Absolutely not."

She walks backwards before turning, leaving behind a pouty Dustin sadly staring at her retreating figure.

[A/N- I know, no Eddie content right? But it's only the first chapter ;)]
