Almost Abused
04:13, 26 June 2013“Why the hell is she going in there alone?” Scarlet yelled to the television as we watched the main character go into the abandoned warehouse alone.
I watched amusedly as Scarlet leaned forward towards the television in my living room. Scarlet didn’t swear a lot, but she seemed to really be getting into this movie.
She glanced over and glared at me as she heard me chuckle.
“Seriously,” She said with wide eyes, pointing to the television. “These people are morons! They go into abandoned warehouses and expect not to be stabbed and killed, I don’t even get how-“
Scarlet stopped mid-sentence, screaming out as we watched a masked figure jump out from behind the shadows and stab the young girl, who screamed in pain.
Scarlet tucked a piece of long, blonde hair behind her ear as recoiled in her seat, back into my side with my arm around her shoulders.
“Oh my god.” She squeaked as the girl, who had just been stabbed, fell to the ground. The girl’s boyfriend throughout the movie ran into the warehouse. He saw the figure standing above the girl, with a bloody knife. He froze and then turned away, running out and away from the screams and cries of his girlfriend.
“That dick!” Scarlet yelled, looking at me. “He just left his girlfriend, the ‘love of his life’ to die!”
I laughed again at the rare foul language that left Scarlet’s mouth. She closed her eyes tightly as the masked figure stabbed the girl one last time, and then left the warehouse with her body.
“What are you guys watching?” Matt asked as he came and sat down next to Scarlet.
“Little too close there.” I replied as I saw the thin inch of space that was between him and Scarlet. She was completely oblivious as she was leaned forward again, staring intently at the movie. Matt rolled his eyes in annoyance as he moved farther away from her.
After watching a few more minutes into the movie, Matt got up.
“Oh fuck no, I’m not watching this horror shit.” He said. “I’m going over to Mason’s.”
“Okay.” I replied, happy that I would have the house alone with Scar. My mom was at work and Sam was at his friends. Matt walked out the front door, closing it behind him.
I glanced at Scarlet. I couldn’t concentrate on the movie with her so close to me. I could smell her hair, which smelled like strawberries. Her long lashes, were thick and full even without make up. She had on my sweatpants, and one of her own tank tops that came right above her hips, making a sliver of her flat stomach visible.
Ten minutes later, the movie ended with the betraying boyfriend dying in a freak accident. Scarlet finally let out a breath as the credits came on, and turned to me.
“Did you like that?” I laughed as I shut the movie off. She ran a hand through her hair, turning so that her legs stretched across my lap.
“You wouldn’t leave me to die, would you?” She asked, with a smile on her face. I put on the most serious expression possible.
“Baby, I would die for you.” I said with enthusiasm. “I would take a fucking bullet, right here,” I pointed to my heart.
Scarlet laughed at my expression, leaning her head on my shoulder. I smiled at her, raising my eyebrows.
“You’d save me from a psycho killer too, wouldn’t you?” I asked. Scarlet looked at me, and bit her lip and deep concentration.
“Depends on how many times you’ve already been stabbed.” She said. I laughed incredulously, as she shrugged. “I mean, if you’ve only been stabbed once and it’s possible for you to live, then I’d probably save you. But if you’ve been stabbed like three times and you’re halfway dead, then what’s the point of putting my life in danger too?”
“So you can kiss me one last time.” I grinned.
“You are a pretty good kisser.” She laughed, leaning forward and pressing a kiss to my lips. As always, her lips felt like silk against mine.
They were so soft. It was as if no one else had touched them. Just me. It was one of the things I liked most about Scarlet. Aside from her herself, she was completely pure. Everything she and I had done, no other guy had done with her. She was completely mine.
I had never had anyone like that. Not that it really mattered. Even if she had slept with twenty guys, it wouldn’t change my feelings for her one bit.
She pulled back, leaving the kiss sweet and innocent.
“Harry?” She asked. I loved the sound of my name leaving her lips. I wanted to hear it all the time.
I looked at her silently, watching her blue eyes search my face.
“Where’s your dad?” She said. She said it so quietly, as if she was afraid I was going to break out in a rage from the question.
I silently grabbed her tiny hand that was half the size of mine. I ran my rough, calloused, cut fingers along each of her smooth, soft ones.
“He’s dead, baby.” I replied, looking at her. She gave me a sad and regretful look.
“I’m sorry.” She said. I smiled and shook my head.
“It happened a long time ago. I was like, I don’t even fucking know, six, maybe? I was young. And at the time, my father worked in the same gang I work in now. He worked with Mark and Jay. Although he was really close with Mark, kind of where Jay is now. And one day, he brought me along on a drug deal.”
Scarlet’s mouth dropped open in shock.
“Your dad took you to a drug deal when you were six years old?” She gasped. I nodded slowly.
“I don’t remember why. Mom doesn’t know either. She was at work, at the time so she had no idea. He left Matt and Sam with a baby sitter. But he took me. And I guess something went bad, and he got shot. Right in front of my eyes.”
Scarlet’s eyes took on a look of deep pity as she grabbed my hand tightly.
A flashback went in my mind, as I remembered the loud gunshot, the blood, and the unsure feeling.
I hadn’t understood what was happening. I never saw who had shot him either. It was all a blur.
“Harry.” Scarlet said, tucking her head in my neck. I patted her hair, running my hand through it.
“I hardly remember it, Scar. It’s almost as if it’s a foggy dream. I can see it, but there are pieces missing. I ended up being found by Mark and Jay and a few other guys from the gang, minutes later. They never figured out who shot my dad.”
“That’s awful.” She said, leaning up and looking at me.
“Bad things happen every day. I’ve seen it. I’ve lived through it. I’ve done it.”
Scarlet let out a shaky breath as she looked at me. She bit her bottom lip with her straight white teeth and cocked her head slightly to the side.
“Have you ever…” She paused, as if rethinking her question. “Killed someone?”
“No.” I shook my head. “But I’ve been close.”
I froze as I watched Scarlet’s expression. This was half of my skeletons coming out of the closet. I had never really put into detail what I did for the gang. But here it all was, out on the table.
“You’ve been close.” Scarlet repeated.
“I’ve beaten people within inches of their lives. I’ve never shot and killed someone. But I do my job, which is to put physical fear into people. And I never don’t do my job.”
I waited for Scarlet to tell my I was a monster. For her to get up and leave with fright. For her to have a disgusted look on her face.
But she did none of those things. She just laid against my chest and traced designs on my t-shirt covered chest. Minutes went by of silence, my heart beating fast against my chest as I awaited her next words or actions.
But she continued to surprise me. She didn’t get up and run out of fear from me. She always saw the best in me.
“You’re father would be proud of you, if he knew you.” She said. I bit my lip.
Whenever I would disappoint Jay or Mark, and Jay would beat me to punish me, he’d always bring up how my dad would think I was worthless. How I wasn’t nearly as good as my dad. He would be ashamed to have seen me where I was now.
I had heard it my whole life. But hearing Scarlet say the complete opposite, made me want to hug her tightly and never let go. She always made me feel of less than her monster.
Her innocence seemed to save me more and more each day.
The comfortable silence ended when the front door opened loudly. Scarlet sat up and I turned to see Louis coming in. He froze as his eyes fell on Scarlet.
“Oh, Scarlet’s here.” He said, laughing awkwardly. “Sorry, I didn’t realize. I didn’t see your car.”
“Oh it’s fine.” Scarlet laughed warmly as she got up from the couch. “I parked around back.”
I stood up, following her to where she stood in front of Louis, my hand winding around her waist. I felt like I was always touching her. Even if we were just standing and talking to someone, I had to be touching her in some way.
“I can come back later.” Louis said as he started to back up towards the door. Scarlet shook her head, reaching out and grabbing Louis’ arm.
“Don’t worry about it,” She smiled at him. “I need to get going anyway. Harry needs someone to keep him company.”
Louis smiled at her. As much as he probably would hate to admit it, I knew Louis respected Scarlet. I knew my best friend, and I knew his real smile when I saw one.
Louis had picked me up from countless girl’s houses, after I had drunkenly fucked them. He had watched me drown my sorrows in drugs. I was an emotionless wreck my whole life.
Watching me change was probably hard for him, but I knew he wanted the best for me. He wasn’t being a dick about it like Zayn.
“I’ll keep the love sick bastard some company.” Louis said, glancing over at me. Scarlet laughed, turning to look at me too. I rolled my eyes, a small smile on my face.
“Good.” She said. “I just need to grab my stuff and I’ll be out of your way.”
“I’ll be right back, man.” I said to Louis as I followed Scarlet into my room. He nodded and sat down on the couch, flipping on the television.
I watched as Scarlet grabbed her clothes from last night and put them in her bag. She ran a brush through her long hair, and threw it up in a ponytail that still trailed down her back.
“You don’t have to go, you know.” I said as I walked up behind her and hugged her tiny waist from behind.
“I know.” She smiled, turning to look at me. She pressed a kiss to my cheek, her hands winding around my neck. “But I’ve been sleeping over your house a lot and my parents think I’m at Sierra’s. I need to go home sometime.”
I groaned quietly, nuzzling her neck.
“I wish you lived with me again.” I said against her soft skin. She giggled, my hot breath fanning against her neck tickling her.
“I’ll come over tomorrow, after school.” She replied. She shifted to move but I just tightened my grip around her, refusing to let her move. She giggled loudly, trying and failing to remove my iron grip around her waist.
“Harry, I have to go! Louis is waiting for you!” She laughed.
“I don’t care.” I said. My words muffled by her neck. She sighed loudly.
“You’ve changed so much.” She said quietly, her hand running through my curls loosely. I shifted slightly so I could see her eyes.
“What do you mean?”
She smiled warmly, her perfectly whitened teeth and slight dimples showing.
“You just, I don’t know, have become more open. You used to always hide your feelings and act as if you didn’t really need me. Or more like you didn’t want to need me.”
I thought back to when I had been like that, constantly fighting my feelings. I had tried to keep it somewhat, almost…professional, for the bet. But with Scarlet, I was screwed.
I couldn’t pretend I didn’t want her, or that I didn’t need her…because I did need her. I needed her so fucking much.
“And now you’re holding on to me, and not letting me leave.” She laughed. I sighed and let go of her reluctantly.
“What the fuck are you doing to me?” I asked as she laughed. “You’re making me sound like a pussy.”
She laughed, pulling me down and pressing a kiss to my lips. Her tongue daringly went into my mouth, wrapping around my own. She tasted sweet and of mint. She pulled back and pressed a kiss to my neck.
“I like that side of you. It shows me that you care.” She smiled. She grabbed her bag off of my unmade bed, before slipping on her shoes.
“I do care.” I said truthfully. I cared too much. I cared way too much.
“I care more than you can imagine.” Scarlet mumbled. She grabbed my hand as we went towards the front door.
“I’ll see you at school tomorrow.” I said, kissing her. She grinned and nodded, turning towards Louis who was watching some show intently.
“I’ll see you later Louis!” She yelled as she gave me one last smile and walked outside, shutting the door behind her.
“Bye, Scarlet!” Louis yelled after a few moments, his mind completely wrapped around the t.v. show he was watching.
I sat down next to him on the couch, switching it off. Lou turned to look at me.
“I came to apologize.” He said, following me into the kitchen as I went to grab some food.
“For what?” I asked. Louis sighed.
“Zayn being a complete dick.” He grumbled. I laughed, even though there was no humor.
“Don’t even mention his name.” I replied darkly. “You have no idea what I almost did to him last night. I was close to killing him. I’ve never been so angry in my life.”
“Haz, I don’t know what the fuck is up with him.” Louis sighed, sitting down at the kitchen table. “What even happened? All I know is that he tried to get Scarlet to smoke or something?”
“The fucking bastard made her feel bad for never smoking, then tried to force weed onto her.” I growled, my anger coming back immediately as I remembered running around the house, looking for Scarlet’s blonde head and blue eyes.
When my eyes fell on her tiny figure, sitting next to Zayn as he handed her drugs, I almost went blind with anger.
“It was obvious she didn’t want to do it. And the worst part? I got pissed off at her too. I yelled at her, while meanwhile all she was trying to do was fit in with my friends. She wants to please me.”
I sighed, running a hand down my face.
“It needs to fucking stop or I may end up seriously hurting Zayn.” I said truthfully as I turned to Louis who nodded, agreeing with me.
“I know, man.” He said, sighing. “I don’t blame you one bit.”
“I just wish I knew why he despises her so much.” I sighed.
“Maybe-“ Louis cut himself off. “Maybe he’s just, jealous. He wanted to shag Scarlet when she first got here. And now here you are, practically her everything.”
I smiled slightly at Louis’ words.
“I like her a lot Lou.” I said truthfully. “And if it means losing Zayn as a friend, to keep her from getting hurt by him, then that’s what it takes.”
Louis looked at me silently, nodding understandingly. After a moment, he opened his mouth.
“Do you,” He paused. “Do you love her?”
“Yes.”
The words slipped from my mouth effortlessly, without even thinking about it.
Louis stared at me.
“I can tell.” He replied, standing up. “Your eyes never leave hers. It’s as if she’s the only person in the entire world that matters to you. It’s like you’re waiting to die for her, to do anything for her.”
I smiled and shook my head.
“I don’t know when it happened. But we’ve been together for a month. And it’s a short time, I know. But…I know I would die for her.”
“So this isn’t just a bet anymore?” Louis clarified.
“No.” I said stiffly. “Not at all.”
“What if she finds out about the bet?”
“She won’t.” I said sternly. “If I try to end the bet, I know Zayn will get pissed and probably end up telling her. So I just need to win. I’ll let Zayn keep his car and then maybe he won’t be so angry with her and me. She can never find out, though.”
Louis nodded once again.
“Be careful man. Lies get sticky.” He said. I nodded. He was right. I was getting in really deep.

~Scarlet’s P.O.V~
It was Monday and school was finally over. I was sitting in my car, checking my messages before going into Harry’s house. I was parked right outside his driveway.
I glanced at my texts. I had eight from Alec, all begging me to talk to him. I sighed and went to the next few messages. There was one from Woods. I read it in surprise. How had he gotten my number?
All it said was that he wanted to talk to me. A part of me wanted to text him back, and to talk to him too. He still interested me somewhat. But I knew I couldn’t do that to Harry. So I ignored the message.
I went to my next text from a boy I had gone to school with at North Side. He had been a good friend of mine. I laughed at the funny text he had sent me and replied immediately.
I then noticed another text from Charlie, my brother, asking how I was doing. And that he missed me. I smiled at it and decided that I would just call him tonight instead, to catch up. I missed him a lot.
I got out of my car and walked up the driveway into Harry’s house. He was sitting on the couch, eating a sandwich.
“Hey,” He smiled up at me, his green eyes glistening and dimples indenting his cheeks. I grinned at him as I kissed his cheek and sat next to him.
“I think I’m going to take a shower.” I said as I ran a hand through my hair. I had showered last night but my hair had not been cooperating today.
“I can help you.” Harry smirked at me. I rolled my eyes as I stood up.
“I think I’ll be okay on my own. I learned how to shower a little while ago.” I said. He shrugged, rolling his eyes, making me laugh. I left my phone on the table next to him as I walked down the hall and into the bathroom.
I turned on the water, getting ready to undress when I realized I didn’t have a towel. I opened the door, going into the hall, which led to the laundry room where the towels were.
I stopped as I saw the back of Harry, who was sitting down and holding…my phone?
I didn’t mind. It wasn’t like I had anything to hide. I had left it on the table right in front of him. But I was slightly curious as to what he was doing on it.
I took two more quiet steps and looked over top of his head silently and watched as he went through my messages. I had gotten two more new ones, one from my guy friend from the NorthSide, and another from my cousin.
My mouth dropped open in shock as I watched him open the texts and then delete them. I hadn’t even seen them yet. He was deleting all of my messages from guys. I watched as he deleted my brother’s texts and Woods’ texts.
To say I was angry, was an understatement.
“What are you doing?” I asked in a cold voice. Harry jumped in surprise and turned to see me. He had a guilty look on his face, which was quickly wiped off with an innocent one.
“I was going to play a game on your phone.” He said, smiling at me as he clicked on a game. I grabbed my phone from his hands angrily.
“Really?” I spat. “You weren’t going through and deleting my messages?”
Harry sighed and stood up, facing me.
“You shouldn’t be talking to other guys anyway. You’re mine, not theirs.” He said coldly. He had no regret in what he did.
I laughed incrediously.
“That doesn’t give you the right to delete messages, before I even get to read them!” I yelled. Harry’s eyes darkened at the tone of my voice and his jaw clenched.
“Actually it does.” He growled, looking down at me. “If you’re mine, then I get to pick who you talk to, when you talk to them, and what you talk to them about.”
My mouth dropped open. Did he really think he could control me like that? My anger just went up more, if that was even possible.
“You’re an idiot,” I yelled, making Harry’s eyes turn even darker. “I didn’t even fucking reply to Woods’ texts. And the other guy who I did reply to, is a friend! Just a friend! Jesus, Harry. It’s not like I was texting him and asking him if he wanted a blowjob!”
“Don’t fucking say that.” Harry said in a low voice. He was pissed. He always got pissed at the mention of me with another guy, even if it was a joke.
“And then,” I continued, “You deleted messages from Charlie and Jack!”
“You don’t need to be talking to random guys, Scarlet.” Harry yelled, walking towards me so that we were only a foot apart.
“They’re my fucking family!” I screamed. “Charlie is my brother and Jack is my cousin!”
Realization hit Harry’s face. I had spoken a few times about Charlie before, but as always, Harry’s jealously clouded everything. He looked embarrassed for a moment, but his stubborn expression came back.
“Maybe I don’t want you talking to them, either!” He yelled. “Family or not.”
I looked at him in pure shock. He was trying to control whether or not I talked to my family?
“You’re fucking psycho if you believe that you can keep me from talking to my family!” I yelled. The words that were flying out of my mouth were from pure anger. I was swearing more now than I had in the past week.
Harry’s chest was rising and falling rapidly, my yells making him even more angry, if that was possible.
“I am not a toy that you can control!” I yelled. “I can talk to who I want-“
“Shut up Scarlet.” Harry said through clenched teeth.
“I can text who I want-“
“Shut up.”
“I can call who I want-“
“I said shut the fuck up!”
“I can even fucking sleep with who I want!” I yelled, angry with Harry’s demands. I was tired of him controlling me.
What happened next, happened in a flash. Harry’s arm wound back, his eyes black with fury. His lips were pressed in a thin line. His hand was coming to me at a fast speed, and in a second I realized what he was doing.
He was going to hit me.
A small whimper of shock left my lips as I flinched back and waited for the pain to hit. But it didn’t. I slowly opened my eyes, which I had shut without realization, and saw Harry’s hand. It was frozen, mere inches away from my face.
I looked at it with wide eyes. My hands were trembling, tears threatening to spill over my eyes. I slowly looked up at Harry.
He was breathing deeply. His eyes were wide. They were green again. They were staring at his own hand as if it didn’t belong to him.
Then they glanced at me.
“Sca-“
“You were going to hit me.” I said quietly. My heart felt heavy with the fact that Harry Styles, the boy who had told me just two nights ago that he would never hurt me, had been a second away from hitting me.
“I would never-“ Harry shook his head rapidly, his curls going across his forehead. He reached forward desperately towards me, grabbing at my waist.
I slapped his hands away.
“Don’t touch me.” I said.
“Scarlet, no,” Harry cried out. His voice was cracking. I didn’t have the courage to look at his face as I walked by him and into the living room to grab my jacket.
I walked towards the front door but was stopped as Harry wrapped his arms around my waist. He was kneeling down in front of me, his head pressed against my thighs as he held me to him as if it was life or death.
“Let go of me.” I said, my voice cracking just as his had. I had tears running down my face.
“Scarlet, I’m sorry. I’m sorry!” Harry was yelling, his voice cracking with each word. I felt the moisture of tears through my jeans, from Harry’s cries.
“Let go of me.” I repeated.
“Don’t leave me, please don’t leave me!” Harry said as he gripped my waist even tighter.
“I’m sorry! I’m so sorry! I’d never hurt you! Please don’t leave me, Scarlet, I need you. I need you. I need you.”
Harry repeated himself over and over again as he pressed his head against my thighs.
I sniffed, making my tears stop as I grabbed Harry’s arms and pulled them away from my waist.
He looked up at me from where he was on the ground. His green eyes were red and watery, lines of wetness running down his cheeks. He had hope in his eyes as he watched me.
But as I dropped his arms from around my waist, his face crumpled in defeat. I walked past him, grabbing my keys and walking out of his house as I heard his screams and cries. I silently got into my car.
I had only driven three minutes when I had to pull to the side of the road. My sobs filled the car as I cried out. I felt broken. The very person that had always said he would protect me, had been a moment away from slapping me.
I sat in my car for thirty minutes, crying and crying. Until eventually, my cries tired me out. And I fell back against my seat and my heavy eyes drifted shut.
