~Chapter 23~

12:16, 11 January 2013

My eyes fluttered open, looking straight at my bedside clock. 7:23am. I had an excuse to be up this early during my school holidays. No, it wasn't Christmas. Christmas had been and gone, dad returning home on Christmas eve as promised (for the first time in my life), and Luke spending the day with his family.

Today was New Year's Eve. Luke had planned the whole day out, apparently, or so he had said the previous night on the phone.

Every few days Luke would ring me right before I went to bed, to say goodnight and tell me about what's happening in his life. I hadn't really seen him much lately, as he was staying at his grandparents' house while his parents' house was being rebuilt.

His family seemed so calm about the whole fire incident, which was strange. I guess they were just happy that he was alive, material items can be replaced but lives cant. Well, that's what Molly said to me. It made sense.

I got out of bed, stretching and scrunching my toes as they touched the soft carpet. I made my way along the hallway to the bathroom and locked the door behind me before stepping into the steamy shower.

When I was finished I wrapped a huge fluffy towel around my body and legged it back to my room. No one would be up this early but I did it just in case! Once back inside my room I shut my door and began looking in my wardrobe for something to wear, hugging the towel tightly to my body. I heard a small laugh come from behind me. Turning around fast my eyes searched the room. No one was there, except there was a large lump in the blankets of my bed...

I pulled the blankets back to reveal Luke's smiling face

"What the hell are you doing I'm naked under this towel!" I gasped.

"I know, but if you hold it any tighter around you it's going to rip and then you'll be naked. Over the towel..." He winked.

I rolled my eyes and pulled the blankets back over his head.

"If you take even the smallest look at me while I'm getting changed I refuse to kiss you all day." I warned him, pulling my underwear on.

I heard a little whimper from underneath the blankets. Good, threats work.

I heard rustling in the blankets as I put my bra on. Looking over toward the bed I saw Luke's disappear back into the blankets, his deep laugh muffled by my quilt.

"Nice job mate, you've earnt yourself zero kisses for the remainder of the day." I laughed as I pulled my jacket over my dress, and slipped my feet into my flats. My damp hair would dry in the warm summer air, hopefully wavy.

I pulled Luke from the bed and we walked downstairs. The house was still silent so I scribbled a note and left it on the back of the front door.

'Going out with Luke, Happy New Year!' It read.

And then we left the house, got into Luke's car and drove off to the first location for our day together. The drive didn't last long, and soon we pulled up at the river.

Luke got out of the car, walked around and opened my door for me like the perfect gentleman before I even undid my seatbelt. I took his hand and hopped out of the car, shutting my door. Luke opened the car boot and pulled out a picnic basket.

We sat down in the long grass by the river, the sun shining down on our backs. It was still early morning so the buzz of people who usually visited here hadn't started.

Luke pulled grapes from the picnic basket.

"This is sooo cliché but try and catch these in your mouth?" he pointed to the grapes.

"I love cliché though!" I laughed.

I opened my mouth and tilted my head back, waiting for the grape. Luke threw it and... it missed. Let's just say I don't have the best catching skills.

The grape disappeared into the long grass, where I'm sure ants would find and appreciate it. I tried again. Missed.

Third time. Miss.

Fourth time. Miss.

Fifth time. Miss.

I gave up, taking the grapes from Luke.

Unlike me, Luke seemed to be great at catching. He caught every grape in his mouth, no matter how I threw it. I even tried to throw in a curveball grape but he still caught it!

Once all the grapes were finished Luke lay back in the grass, motioning for me to do the same. Our heads just touched, looking up at the blue sky.

"So.." I started.

"Sorry I f this is weird. I just thought that maybe you'd want to re-live a twilight moment. Sure this isn't a meadow and I'm no Edwin Cullen, but hey I tried!"

He was so damn thoughtful. What did I even do to deserve such a perfect human being in my life?

"Luke, ah. Ohmygosh. You're perfect. Thank you. And by the way; it's EDWARD Cullen"

He laughed, sitting up and pulling me into his lap.

"There's something I need to tell you Alexis.." Luke whispered in my ear, his breath tickling me. "The boys and I... we're going to London to record an album in three days."

Say what?

An album? In LONDON? What?

I tried to interrupt but he pressed his finger to my lips and continued.

"I knew you'd freak out. Shh I haven't finished. Adam has spoken to Hannah's Mum, and your dad. And they've agreed that you and Hannah can come along to London until the school term starts!"

I'M GOING TO LONDON?!

I threw my arms around his neck and kissed him passionately. "This is amazing. When? Three days? I have some serious packing to do!"

Luke laughed and pulled me close to him.

We spent the remainder of the morning and some of the afternoon playing around by the river, talking, singing, and kissing. As the sun went down Luke dragged me back to his car, driving us somewhere new.

We pulled up in front of someone's house. There was a party going on, judging by the loud thumping music I could hear, even inside the car. Luke turned the engine off and once again opened the door for me.

"Who's party?" I asked as we walked up the driveway.

"Ashton's." he smiled.

So this was Ashton's house... I wondered If Hannah was here. I was curious to know if she knew about London yet...

Inside the party was going off. Lots of people were drinking, and dancing. I instantly spotted Hannah, Ashton, Calum and Michael. Well, they were the only people I knew. I waved hello to them and Luke and I made our way over through all the people.

I lost Luke at some point during the night but I spent my time with Hannah anyway, meeting new people and dancing like there was no tomorrow.

The closer it got to midnight the better the party got. People were playing strip pool, some girls were singing karaoke very badly, they were either super drunk or just terrible singers. I watched as all the boys in the house found a girl, Luke returning to my side as we all counted down from ten, the countdown to the start of the New Year.

10..9..8..

Luke pulled me close, his fingers entwined in mine

7...6..5..4..

I pressed my forehead against his, both of us staring into each other's eyes.

3..2..1..

His lips crashed against mine. It was the most passionate kiss I'd felt, I never wanted it to end. People were cheering and kissing all over the place.

After that the party died down, and people began to leave. I knew I had to be home, I didn't want people worrying about whether I was safe or not again.

"Luke, can you take me home please?" I asked, yawning and resting my head on his shoulder. it wasn't too comfortable. So muscly...

"Alright Love. Meet me out at the car, I just have to go find Ashton and see if he told Hannah about London." He smiled, kissing the top of my head.

I made my way outside, looking for Luke's car.

I almost fell over when I saw who was leaning up against it, her arms crossed and that wicked little smile on her face.
