Part 19

23:02, 7 April 2021

Clarke POV:

After what Lexa had said to me in the art room, I knew how to complete the next part of the project. I gathered all of my stuff from the art room and went home. I was deep in my train of thought and deep in my writing. My mom was home today, and she was making dinner in the kitchen as I sat at the table completing my project. There was a knock at the door, "Clarke honey can you get that?" My mom called out to me. I walked over to the door and opened it.

I opened the door to see a beaten up Lexa Woods standing there, clutching her side with blood coming out of her mouth. I stood there shocked as she tried to get words out of her mouth but instead was coughing up blood. "Is your mom here?" Lexa asked, barely getting the words out as she stumbled into the doorway, clutching the door for support. "Clarke who isn't it?" My mom yelled from the kitchen. But there was something in my throat and no words escaped my lips.

"Clarke I need a doctor," Lexa said before getting completely into my house. She grasped my shoulder for more support before falling over, passing out. My mom gasped when Lexas body hit the ground. "Mom, she needs help." I called to her, finally finding my voice and bending down to her side.

"OMG WHAT HAPPENED?" She said, examining Lexas face and body. I had a pretty good guess but I didn't say anything. "Bring her over to the couch" my mom said. I picked her up and placed her down on our couch. With this movement, Lexa had woken once again. "Lexa we need to get you to a hospital." I told her but she got upset. "No hospital, please Clarke, no hospital." She said before fading out again.

My mom came back into the room with what looked like all the supplies she owned from the hospital. She walked over and took her pulse, weak, but alive. "We need to get her to a hospital," she said. I rolled my eyes because I just went through this. "No hospital" I said under direct orders from Lexa herself. My mom looked at me skeptically before getting back to work.

"Take her shirt off" she directed, "I need to know where the bleeding is coming from." I pulled Lexas shirt off and winced at the number of bruises on her stomach. My mom's reaction was way worse though. "One, what happened?" She said looking at me. I looked down trying to avoid her question. "Clarke Griffin what happened?" She repeated. "It's her dad, he hits her." I said in a low voice and she paused after the words left my mouth.

"Please mom, just help her." I said. She looked at me, giving me a look like we would come back to this conversation and continued to inspect Lexa. "Clarke I need you to keep her awake." She told me. I nodded and began trying to wake her up. "Lexa!" I said, shaking her shoulders.

I saw her eyes flutter open for a second. "Hey, stay with me, I need you here." I told her and her eyes opened more, looking at me. "Clarke" she said, wincing in pain. "Hey, be still my mom is checking you out." I told her and she gave me a nod. "Ok Lexa, you have two broken ribs and your bleeding internally." My mom said. That wasn't good.

"Based on the looks on your faces I'm guessing that's not good." Lexa said, looking between me and my mother. "The bleeding is very light so it shouldn't be to bad and you should recover but you will be in a lot of pain." My mom said. "When am I not." Lexa joked but it clearly wasn't the time. "You got lucky, it could have been worse," my mother said. "Oh it has been" Lexa replied. I'm glad to see that even in pain she could still joke.

My mom walked away to get some medicine for Lexa and I scooted closer to her grabbing her hand. "You're going to be ok," I said. "You seem to be telling me that a lot lately." She chuckled. "Thank you," Lexa said, before my mom walked back over. "This should help with the pain," my mon said, giving her some medicine.

"Thank you" she said to my mom. "Your welcome sweetheart but you should really go to the hospital." "I can't," Lexa said, trying to sit up and grunting loudly at the pain. "The hospitals ask questions and they cost money I don't have." She said. I understood but my mom was still unsure. "Besides, you're the next best thing." She said looking at my mom and a wave of flattery flew over her face.

The pain medication my mom had given Lexa had started to kick in and we saw her face start to fade. "Your bones will heal but you need to stay here so I can keep an eye on you." My mom said and Lexa nodded her head before falling back asleep. My mom looked at me and motioned me to follow her to the kitchen.

We walked in and she just looked at me. "Mom before you say anything I-" but I was cut off by her bringing me into a hug. Well that was unexpected.

"You protected her, that's my girl" she said proudly. I smiled but then she hit me in the arm. "Ow" I said. "And that's for not telling me sooner, it shouldn't take her almost dying for me to find out, I'm a doctor for gods sake." She said. "I know mom but it wasn't for me to tell." She nodded as if she understood.

"Mom I want her to stay with us, even after she is healed, for as long as she can." I said looking at her. "Of course honey, the last thing I want is for her to be hurt again." I smiled, knowing she meant it.

We sat in silence for a second before my mom broke it, "you care for her?" She asked. "Yeah of course I care for her, she's my friend." I said back. She raised her eyebrow slightly before saying "not like that Clarke, you care for her differently." I looked at her knowing she was right, I did care for Lexa differently than I did a friend. I couldn't explain it but I just did.

"Mom I would have told you but I wasn't sure." I said nervously. "You don't have to tell me Clarke, I love you the way you are and loving a girl, this girl, won't change that" she said, eyeing Lexa on the couch. I smiled at her before hugging her. "Thanks mom" I whispered in her ear before breaking away from the hug.

Lexa slept on the couch the rest of the night and through the morning. While I was getting ready for school I heard her shifting and I went to sit next to her. I ran my fingers through her long brown hair, moving pieces out of her face.

She opened her eyes slightly and said "you know it's rude to stare" we both let out a small laugh before I said "how are you feeling?" "Better" she responded. "Where are you going?" She asked, looking down at my outfit and my shoes. "School" I told her. Her eyes widened and she said "I have to get ready. She tried to get up but I stopped her and pushed her back down. "Nope, you're not going." I told her sternly.

She didn't push too hard. I was still running my fingers through her hair as she set her hand on top of my other one. I smiled at her and she smiled back. "You have to heal up, my mom is here if you need her." I said. "Get some rest." I told her. "I slept all the way through the night, I don't think I can sleep anymore." She laughed but it was quickly followed by a new expression on her face. "Clarke I'm scared," she said, her voice cracking a bit.

"Hey it's ok, you will be ok" I reassured her. She gave me a fake smile. "I will be back a lunch to come and check on you, so you better not do anything stupid till I get back," I said and a real smile came over her face. "I have to go, will you be alright?" I asked, rubbing her cheek. She nodded to me leaning into my hand. I kissed her forehead and walked to the door, looking back at her before leaving.

I got to school and saw my friends, it was hard to smile when I couldn't keep my mind off of Lexa. I faked it, that's what it must've felt like to be Lexa, faking a smile and faking being fine in front of everyone. It was exhausting.

I walked up to them, Lincoln had his arm around Octavia. Shocker. Luna was talking to Raven, a smile across her face as she stared longingly at her. I walked up and Luna looked at me. "Where is Lexa?" I asked. I tightened slightly, my thoughts back to Lexa. I don't think anyone noticed though. "I'm not sure" I responded. Everyone was now looking at me.

Luna looked concerned but went back to talking to Raven and everyone else went back to talking as well. The bell rang and everyone split up. I went over to Luna and grabbed her arm, pulling her back for a second. "I lied, Lexa isn't doing too well" I said. Now Luna's face was really concerned. "Her dad got her pretty bad, she's resting at my place and my moms looking after her, she's a doctor." Luna had now put her hand over her mouth. "I'm going back to see her at lunch, do you want to come with me?" I asked her. "Yes, thank you Clarke," she said and we both went to class.

My first two classes before lunch were brutal. I only had one thing on my mind. Lexa. That was the only thing I cared about right now. Finally lunch came around and I found Luna. "Are you ready to go?" I asked her and a few people looked confused. "Where are you guys going?" Raven asked suspiciously. "We have to complete work for math class," I told her. That was true and believable, Luna was in my advanced math class and I had, on occasion, stayed back for lunch to complete an assignment.

Raven just nodded and I walked back with Luna. We got in the car and I drove her to my house. "Is she badly hurt?" Luna asked as we pulled up. I could tell by her voice that she was hurting over her friend. "It's pretty bad" I told her and we walked into the house.

We walked around the couch to see a bruised Lexa. She opened her eyes as we got closer. "Hey Lex, I brought someone." I said in a soft voice. Luna came out from behind me, staring at her friend. "Luna!" Lexa said happily. "Hi honey are you ok?" Luna said, sitting next to her.

"Why does everyone keep asking me that?" Lexa said with a smile. "Because you're clearly not ok." Luna said. Lexa's glance came back over to me. "Hey Griffin, long time no see." She said. I chuckled a little bit. "How are you feeling, really? How's the pain?" I said, lifting up her shirt to check on her bruises. Luna gasped at the sight of them.

"I feel better but that might be because you mom gave me some more pain medication about an hour ago." She said. "I'm so sorry this happened Lexa." Luna said, tears forming in her eyes. "It's ok Luna, I'm fine I promise." She said. Luna nodded at her before getting up.

I came and sat next to her this time, placing my hand on her head, rubbing my finger through her hair once again like I hadn't even left. "So, how was school?" She asked. "Ugh, boring, I could only think of you the whole time." I said. "So you have been thinking about me have you?" She teased. "I was worried Lexa and I think the medicine is starting to go to your head." I laughed. I could tell by the way she was slurring her words and how her eyes fluttered in and out.

"We should get going," Luna said, looking at the time and then back at me. I nodded to her and the I looked back at Lexa. "I'll be fine, go" she said. I got up not letting go of her hand until I was too far from her I couldn't reach anymore.

We got back into the car and Luna looked down at the ground. Not a word the whole ride back to school. We pulled up and I turned to her. "You know you can't tell anyone right? Not even Lincoln, or Raven." I said. "Why would I tell Raven?" She asked. "Please, I see how you look at her, I'm not blind." She looked back to the floor and smiled.

"None of them know about what is going on with her and Lexa doesn't want them to know so we have to keep her secret" I said. Luna nodded and we got out of the car and went back into school.

After school was over I raced back home. Lexa was asleep and she slept through the night again. I watched her, even covered in bruises and passed out on the couch, she was so beautiful. I really did care for her.
