Prologue

"Come on Mom. I don't want to go to summer camp," Ella said. The words were drowned out by her twin sister's hair dryer. Ella Mintz was 8 years old. She had wanted to go to a two week long basketball camp instead but her mother said that after the camp was over the rest of summer she would just be playing video games all day which was probably true, although Ella didn't want to admit it.Β

Her twin sister Molly Mintz who was 22 minutes older than Ella didn't want to go to camp for a different reason. Molly hated the outdoors. She would rather be getting her hair done than playing on the "dirty" playground. Their mom was sending them to Camp Sunshine for the summer so they wouldn't sit inside all day. Ella and Molly's little brother Andrew who was four stumbled into the bedroom.

"Mommmmmmm! I can't find my hat!" He whined.

"It's on your head dude," Molly yelled over her hair dryer.

"5 minutes til the bus leaves!" Mom said.

"This is going to be the worst summer ever," Ella and Molly declared at the same time.

"You're going to have to deal with it. Make the most out of it!" Mom said enthusiastically. But it was most likely going to be the worst summer ever.

Chapter 1

When Ella and Molly got on the bus Molly immediately wrinkled her nose in disgust.

"This place smells like the bottom of a dumpster full of rotten banana peels, and dead rats," she complained.

"It smells better than you," Ella said. The twins were rarely nice to each other. Molly stuck her tongue out at Ella and they found two empty seats next to each other and settled in for a long bus ride.

*************

After what felt like an eternity they finally pulled up to an empty clearing.

Someone in the back yelled, "Sir, I think you took us to the wrong empty clearing." Everyone in the bus burst out laughing except for Ella, Molly and two boys that were sitting across from the girls. Molly noticed the boys across the aisle and said to Ella, "Ooh la la." Ella rolled her eyes. Ella, Molly and the two boys were in the third row and some 1st graders were in the seats in front of them. Ella and Molly were going into 2nd grade. Behind them there were two more rows of 2nd graders. But after that there were some big kids. Like 4th graders, 5th graders and 6th graders.

"We should probably try to stay away from those older kids, don't you think?" The boy in the window seat across from the girls said.

"Wait a sec, are you two twins?" The other boy asked with awe.

"Yes," Molly replied with a shimmer in her eye, "I am Molly Mintz and this is my sister, Ella Mintz."

"I'm sorry we didn't even introduce ourselves!" The boy in the aisle seat exclaimed, "I am Julian Acres and this is my twin brother, Raymond Acres."

"That is so cool that we found another pair of twins!" Ella exclaimed.

"Are you guys going into second grade too? Raymond asked.

"Yep," Molly said proudly, "What school do you go to?"

"Actually we just moved here from Georgia but we are going to Woodrow Elementary next school year," Raymond said.

"Oh that's where we go to school!" Molly said excitedly.

"Great! Now we will know someone there!" Julian said. It was silent for a second. Well as silent that it can be on a bus full of kids. Suddenly we heard snoring from behind Julian.

"Looks like Raymond fell asleep, again. I would hate to wake him so we will talk to you more when we get to the camp."

"Got it," Ella whispered. Julian grabbed a book from his backpack and started reading and Molly immediately whispered something in Ella's ear.

"Are you thinking what I am thinking?" she whispered with a sparkle in her eye.

"If you are thinking that when we get to camp we run away and find the nearest Chick-Fi-La then yes I am thinking the same thing as you and I'm down."

"No! Wait what? Never mind, I don't want to know. I'm thinking that we just found twin soul mates!"

"What? I don't speak wackadoo."

"I am saying that those boys are kind of cute and they are twins so we can both have one! I call dibs on Raymond!"

"Why are you calling dibs? I don't "want one." And why do you have to get a boyfriend everywhere you go? Like girl, you are eight."

"Eight and a half," Molly corrected, "And I do not! I have no clue what you're talking about but I know that this plan is amazing!" Molly snuck a glance over at Raymond who was now awake and looking out the window and sighed dreamily.

"Why do you have to fall in love with every single boy you meet?"

"I don't! And I saw that look in your eye when you first saw Julian. You like him," she whispered in a sing-songy voice. Molly quickly looked for Ella's reaction because she took many classes online to be able to see if someone likes someone and most of them said to look for a reaction when you say they like them.

"No I do not!" Ella whispered with a horrified expression as she made a gagging sound.

"Eyes wide, mouth open, eyebrows raised in... fear. All signs of Ella and Julian sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G."

"Shut up Molly," Ella whispered glaring at her and then glancing at Julian who had looked up from his book and looked like he was trying to make out what they were saying.

"Just saying." They pulled into a parking lot with a path leading into the woods. They all got off the bus and the bus driver led them right in front of the path where there was an older woman probably in her 50s and two teenagers, a boy and a girl about 18.

"Welcome to Camp Sunshine everyone! My name is Susan and I am in charge of the camp. These are my twins Millie and Matthew," Susan said in a bored tone.

"More twins," Raymond whispered to Molly.

"I know right," Molly whispered back, winking at Raymond. Ella and Julian made exaggerated gagging noises.

"Thank you Ted for driving everyone here, you may go now." Ted gave a wave to everyone and hopped in the bus and drove away. "Now everyone, use the buddy system and let's walk in a single file line through the woods. Do not wander off. You younger kids - first and second graders- hold hands." Everyone was rushing to find a buddy. Ella turned to Molly but she was already walking towards Raymond.

"Dang it," she whispered under her breath," My sister already ditched me for a boyfriend and she is eight. Wow. I can't imagine what it will be like when we are teenagers."

"I hear you," a voice from behind Ella said. Ella turned around and found Julian standing behind her. "Raymond gets one look at her and he's off in some Dreamland. Hey, do you want to be my buddy?"

"Sure, can we not do the hands thing though? It's like she thinks that we are Preschoolers," Ella says, rolling her eyes.

"Yeah I have to agree with you," Julian said with a laugh. They followed Susan with Raymond and Molly right behind them. Ella looked back and they were holding hands. She tried to hold back a gag.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

They arrived in a clearing where there were fifteen old-looking cabins, a dining hall, a beat up basketball court, a torn up soccer field and a lake. Lined up were fifteen counselors which included Millie and Matthew. Each counselor had a CIT (Counselor In Training) next to them. Susan went up to the front.

"Each counselor will introduce themself and their CIT and then they will read off a list of names of which are their campers. Listen for your name, when you hear go and stand by your counselor." Millie was the first one to read her list and then it went down the line. The first one called was Raymond.

"My name is Mackenzie and this is my CIT Brian and we have Kena VanLee, Luke Harvey, Raymond Acres...."

"Bye Ray Ray," Molly called.

"Ewww they have nicknames," Julian complained with another gagging noise. They both laughed. Molly glared at them and went to talk to her "glam" friends from school. Raymond walked over to Mackenzie and Brian with his bags and then it was onto the next counselor. Next called was Ella.

"My name is Linsey and this is my CIT Oliver and I have Jessica Kent, Parker Norman, Kaylie Mitchel, Ella Mintz..."

"Good luck," Julian whispered to her.

"Thanks, I'll need it," Ella said, grabbing her bags and carrying them over to her counselor.

Next was Molly.

"My name is Turner and this is my CIT Zoey and I have Kenzie Bailey, Molly Mintz..." And last was Julian.

"My name is Caleb and this is my CIT Danielle and I have Harper Clark, Zach O'Brien, Julian Acres..." Molly and Ella were thinking that this was still going to be the worst summer ever but maybe it wouldn't be as bad.

Chapter 2

Molly

I walked into my cabin and immediately called dibs on top bunk. I threw my bags on my bunk and climbed back down to have a look around. It was a normal size cabin with seven bunk beds with three lined up on one side and four on the other. The bathroom was towards the back of the cabin and had a shower, a sink and a toilet. Turner and Zoey called us over to the middle of the cabin to sit in a circle.

"We are going to go around the circle and say our name, age and grade. I will go first. My name is Turner, I am 18 years old and I am a senior in high school."

"My name is Zoey, I am 15 years old and I am a freshman in high school."

"My name is Kenzie, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is Molly, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is Jake, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is Lila, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is George, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is Beckett, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is Jennivieve, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is Walter, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is Paisley, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is Simon, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is Faye, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"My name is Ollie, I am 8 and I am in second grade."

"Now that we have introduced ourselves our first activity is," Turner checked his papers, "Safety class with Nurse Hazel which is in," he checked another set of papers, "The mess hall. Let's start heading over there now." We all rushed out of the cabin. During the walk to the mess hall which was five minutes from our cabin, I checked out the kids from my cabin.Β

Kenzie, who was closest to me, had dark brown hair which was pulled back with a hair clip. She had round glasses and some freckles below her dark green eyes. She looked small for her age and was wearing a shirt that said Brookview Elementary State Spelling Bee Champions so she was probably really smart.Β

Ollie, who was on my other side, had dark black hair and probably a hundred freckles on his face. He had bright blue eyes and was about my height. When I looked over at him I caught him staring at me but then his freckled face turned bright red and he looked away.Β

Paisley, who was in front of Ollie, had long brown hair and green eyes behind her circular lime green glasses.Β

Faye, who was in front of me, also looked small for her age. She had blonde hair which was in two french braids. She was wearing a VSA t-shirt and she had marks on her legs which looked like they came from the things that you wear when you play soccer so you don't get hurt if someone kicks you, so I guessed she played soccer. She had dark blue eyes.Β

Jake who was in front of Kenzie had blonde hair which was combed to the side. When he spoke he had a southern accent and he had light brown eyes.Β

Jennivieve who was behind me was like seven inches taller than me and had brown curly hair. She was wearing a shirt that said Maple Wood Girls Basketball Team. She had olive green eyes and tan skin.Β

Simon, who was behind Ollie, had brown curly hair, had big rounded glasses and was wearing a shirt that was dark blue like his eyes that said Wilcox Elementary Robotics Competition and I could just tell that he was a huge nerd.Β

Lila who was behind Kenzie had brown hair which half way covered her face and had the darkest eyes I have ever seen. Her hair was a bob cut and she hadn't said a word since we introduced ourselves.Β

In the very back goofing around were Walter, Beckett and George. They hit it off right from the beginning. George had curly black hair and had brown eyes. Walter had almost white hair and had a shirt that said Harlem GlobeTrotters which I think is a basketball team but I'm not sure because I have almost never touched a ball in my life except for twice in gym class. Beckett had a mohawk with purple on the ends and was wearing a shirt that said Foxwood Elementary Football Team.Β

Me and Ella look the same because we are identical twins. Although it's weird because I am right handed and she is left handed and we almost have nothing in common except for our looks. We both have long, brown, wavy hair and we both have exactly six freckles. We have dark blue eyes. One way to tell us apart besides which hand we write with is that Ella is a half inch taller than me.Β

Also I have my two bottom teeth missing and she has her two top teeth missing. We arrived at the mess hall and there was another group there. I searched the group for anyone I knew and I finally spotted Ella. She saw me at the same time and she waved frantically with a grin spreading on her face. I started smiling too and waved back.

"Are you guys twins?" Faye asked.

"Yep! That's Ella."

"Cool."

"Is it just our group and their group?" George asked.

"No it's all the second grade cabins," Turner answered.

"It is all of the second grade cabins," I mouthed to Ella.

"I know," She mouthed back. First Julian's cabin walked in. I saw Julian wave at someone and I turned around and that someone was Ella!

"I knew it," I whispered under my breath. Project Jella is ago! I grinned. Then Raymond's cabin walked in. I smiled even bigger and waved excitedly at Raymond. He waved just as enthusiastically back. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Ollie's face drop. Nurse Hazel started her presentation and I listened but I could sense Raymond staring at me the whole thirty minutes.

Chapter 3

Julian

Nurse Hazel's presentation was soo boring but I guess it's for the better. Some of the CITs didn't even know mouth to mouth yet. Sucks to be them. Well, I guess it kinda sucks for us cause then they can't perform it on us if we need help. Anyways, I'm kinda writing this like a journal because.... Because I can.Β

So my name is Julian Acres. I am eight years old and I have a twin brother named Raymond who is 19 minutes older than me. Right now I am at Camp Sunshine, which is a summer camp that my mom sent me to because there were no more spots left in the two week basketball camp. My brother Raymond ditched me for a girlfriend. He is literally eight! He takes one look at Molly Mintz and he is in some Dreamland. Molly is eight too. She has a twin sister named Ella and Molly is 22 minutes older than Ella.Β

We just moved here from Georgia and next school year we are going to Woodrow Elementary which is where Ella and Molly live. I'm glad that I will know someone there. I'll tell you a bit about my bunk. My counselor's name is Caleb and my CIT's name is Danielle. Caleb is 18 and Danielle is 15. I have eleven bunk mates. Here I will make a list so it's easier for you.

Julian (Myself)

Harper

Zach

Lauren

Henry

Katelyn

David

Finley

Landyn

Jaylie

Connor

Issy

Caleb (Counselor)

Danielle (CIT)

Well those are my bunk mates. I share a bunk with Connor and I'm on the bottom bunk just like at home. I have an older sister named Kinlee and a younger sister named Harley. We have a golden retriever named Bingo. Anyways back to camp.Β

Today we had a safety lesson in the mess hall with Nurse Hazel. We just learned the basic stuff like mouth to mouth, what to do if someone is choking and what to do if someone is drowning. I was trying to get Raymond's attention to tell him about... something (that you don't need to know) but he never took his eyes off of Molly and by the way Molly was smiling I knew that she could tell.Β

When I looked over at Ella she was looking at me. When she saw that I was looking she turned as red as a tomato and turned back towards the front. These people were weird. After the safety presentation we went back to the cabin to put on our swimsuits and our cabin and the other second grade cabins went down by the lake and then two lifeguards Grace and Ben taught us how to be safe in the water.Β

After that we all got in the lake and swam around for about an hour. Me, Connor, Landyn, Henry ,Zach, Ella and two girls named Jennivieve and Faye from Molly's cabin, had a cannonball contest. Jennivieve went first and she had an OK splash. Faye looked like she was going to make a big splash but since she is so small for her age she made a smaller splash than Jennivieve. Next was me. I made a huge splash. I was in first place after Zach, Landyn and Henry went and even after Connor. All that was left was Ella. She started from behind the dock. Everyone backed up.

"On the count of three!" she yelled. "1!" everyone chanted. "2!" "3!" Ella sprinted across the dock leaped into the air and did a flip and then cannonballed into the water. The people that were standing where my splash didn't reach got wet, the other people in the cannonball competition got wet, even Molly and Raymond who were sitting on a beach towel about a foot from the water got wet. When Ella swam to the surface everyone got silent for some reason. When Ella saw her sister on the beach soaking wet she burst out laughing. I started laughing too 'cause Raymond looked ridiculous. Soon everyone was laughing except for Molly and Raymond. Jennivieve helped Ella out of the water and onto the dock and Faye handed her a towel.

"That was amazing!" Connor said.

"You beat all of us!" Landyn said.

"I practice," Ella said with a grin.

"Rematch?" I asked her.

"Bet," she said laughing. Ella won the three other times we played as well. After swimming we all had arts and crafts and Zach, Faye and Connor made Ella a crown that said;

'Camp Sunshine Cannonball Contest Champion.' When she put it on I reached over and tilted it to the side. We all started laughing and we didn't stop until Linsey and Turner came over to tell us to shut up. After that we all got an hour of free time at our cabins and since there was no electronics allowed at camp we played truth or dare. The boys played together and the girls played together . When it was my turn I said truth.

"Lemme think of a good one," Landyn said, scratching his chin.

"I have one!" Connor said excitedly.

"OK whisper it in my ear," Landyn said leaning over to Connor. Landyn's eyes lit up when he heard the idea.

"OK! Do you like Ella?" That was not the question I was expecting.

"No, we are just friends," I said.

"Just friends. Sure," David said, smirking at me.

"Actually!" I said.

"Mhm," Landyn said, grinning.

"Wackadoos," I said. I couldn't get through that word without bursting out laughing. We finished our game of Truth or Dare in which I found out some weird things about my bunkmates. For one, David is scared of cheese ever since he watched the Diary of a Wimpy Kid show on Disney+, Landyn has never tried chicken and Connor likes Faye from Molly's cabin.Β

After Truth or Dare we went to the Mess Hall for dinner. Me, Connor, Landyn, Henry and Zach found Ella, Jennivieve and Faye and we ate dinner together. Three people had milk come out of their nose from laughing too hard. Three!Β

After dinner we went and sat around the campfire. Susan came over and announced our cabin names. Molly's cabin was Squirrel Cabin, our cabin was Moose Cabin, Ella's cabin was Wolf cabin and Raymond's cabin was Owl Cabin. We made S'mores and Susan taught us the camp song. After that, Linsey and Caleb told us a ghost story about the Tuttawa that lives in the woods. They said that it is half bear, half moose and will eat campers if they don't brush their teeth. Everyone laughed and we talked until 8pm and we all went back to our cabins.

I rolled into by bunk and said goodnight to everyone. I tossed and turned all night. I kept thinking about this one thing. A pretty stupid thing to be honest. Over and over in my head. Do I like Ella?

Chapter 4

Ella

This is Ella Mintz reporting for duty. *salutes the notebook*Β

First of all, let me tell you a bit about myself. I am eight years old and I live in Alabama, which is next to the sunshine state. I have a twin sister named Molly who is 22 minutes older than me and I have a younger brother who is four named Andrew. Molly and I have a leopard gecko named Luna. I love sports. Especially basketball. Even though I am small for my age, I am mighty. *thinking in my head how cringy that was* I play point guard and I am a really strong shooter. I also love school. I love the outdoors. I love camping and hiking.Β

Molly on the other hand is the complete opposite of me. She loves the indoors. She loves makeup and shopping. The only time I see her running is when she is running from store to store at the mall. And she is boy crazy. She has had 15 "boyfriends" and she is only eight. And she takes these weird courses online that tell you how to know if someone is lying about a crush. I can tell the person that makes the courses isn't very creative because the title of the course is called 'A Course That Tells You If Someone Is Lying About A Crush'. And I can tell it draws in some weird people because Molly uses it.Β

Right now I am at Camp Sunshine and it is *Checks watch* 4:06 AM. To be honest, I didn't sleep a wink last night. The bed feels like I am sleeping on a rock painted like a bed. That's probably true. Susan probably couldn't care less about us sleeping well. I am in Wolf cabin and my counselor's name is Linsey and my CIT's name is Oliver. I will make a list of my bunkmates:

Ella Mintz (Myself)

Jessica Kent

Parker Norman

Kaylie Mitchel

Isaac Parks

Adam Endermen

Felicity Gordon

Jackson VanBensen

Penelope Kinnik

Jensen Ripple

Vicky Sanders

Sammi Daniels

Linsey Monroe(Counselor)

Oliver Woodox(CIT)

I bunk with Kaylie and our bunk is the closest to the door. If I ever wanted to, I could run away. That seems more and more likely to happen by the second. Then I could get that Chick-Fi-La I'm craving. I'm on the top bunk because let's just say I haven't had the best experiences on the bottom bunk.. You don't wanna know what happened.Β

Today, or yesterday I guess we had a safety talk with Nurse Hazel and then another safety talk at the lake with the lifeguards. I really don't get why we need to have safety talks. Like just let the counselors handle it if something happens. Anyway, we (Julian, Landyn, Henry, Connor, Zach, Jennivieve, Faye and me) had a cannonball competition and I beat them four times! And at arts and crafts they made this crown for me.Β

I haven't talked to Molly since we got here. Like every single time I see her she's either with Raymond or staring at him. I think it's pretty ridiculous. I mean we are literally eight and we're in second grade. I was thinking about the odds that I wouldn't get caught if I escaped to town to go to the Pizza Hut down the road but the odds are probably not in my favor. ~Hunger Games Reference~ They literally care more about making sure we don't leave than if we get food poisoning from the deadly mashed potatoes they dig out of the dumpster behind McDonalds. Or so I'm guessing that's where they came from.

"Ella what are you doing?" Jackson whisper-shouted from across the room.

"Why do you care and why are you up?" I whisper-shouted back.

"Well why are you awake?" he responded.

"Just shut up and go back to bed!" Felicity practically screamed. Everyone was awake now. *Checks watch*

"It's 5:00 am y'all, Go back to bed!" I said, shoving my notebook, flashlight and pen under the bed.

"Hey, you were the one who woke everyone up!" Jackson yelled. I glared at him.

"Nuh uh!"

"Hey! Calm down guys just go back to bed," Oliver said, trying to be loud to wake up Linsey who was still sleeping. I could tell he had no clue what he was doing. Linsey on the other hand would probably sleep through an alien invasion. After everyone else went to bed I ended up falling asleep. Dreaming of how this summer would've been different if I had just gone to the two week basketball camp.

CHAPTER 5

Raymond

I hated this summer camp when we were loading the bus. When we were packing. When Mom signed Julian and me up. Now it's my favorite place. Not because of the food (which tastes like rotten apple juice found at the bottom of a ball pit at Chuck E Cheese. Not that I know what that tastes like) Not because of my bunkmates (who look like they eat candy 99.9% of the day) but because of Molly Mintz.Β

Words can't describe how amazing she is. Julian, my twin brother, said that I shouldn't be "dating" in second grade and that's just weird. I sound really cringey right now.Β

My name is Raymond Acres and I am eight years old and I'm going into second grade. I have a twin brother named Julian and an older sister named Kinlee and a younger sister named Harley. We also have a golden retriever named Bingo. Me and Julian are identical twins and have dirty blonde hair that isn't super long but it's always messy and we have dark brown eyes. Julian is 19 minutes younger than me and he always hears about it. Molly and Ella are also twins and they are also eight years old and going into second grade. We are all going to go to Woodrow elementary school. Me and Julian just moved here from Georgia. Molly and Ella have long brown, wavy hair and dark blue eyes. Molly told me they have a younger brother named Andrew.Β

Right now I'm at the dumpy old summer camp my mom sent me to. Julian wanted to go to the two week long basketball camp but there were no spots left and I wanted to sit at home and do nothing. I am in Owl Cabin and I'm stuck with a bottom bunk closest to the bathroom. I share a bunk with a kid that drinks about 5 gallons of water before bed which doesn't look too good to me. Here is a list of my bunkmates:

Raymond (me)

Kena

Luke

Leslie

Henri

Paige

Westyn

Cassie

Nolan

Hailey

Reggie

Madi

Mackenzie (Counselor)

Brian (CIT)

Well that's my cabin. They're okay but some of them are weird. Like Hailey keeps staring at me and everytime I look over at Henri he's picking his nose. When we were on the bus and Ella and Molly got on I pointed them out to Julian immediately. When Julian layed eyes on Ella I knew he liked her. He doesn't want to admit it but by the end of the summer Jella will be a thing! Don't you like the name? Me and Molly came up with it.Β

After we got dropped off, me and Molly partnered up to walk down the path and we held hands! It was so sweet. We got separated into cabins and then we went to the safety talk. I kind of maybe sort of was staring at Molly the whole time. Julian said she was smiling and that she knew I was staring at her.Β

After that all of the second grade cabins went down to the lake and we got a talk about water safety and then got to swim. Me and Molly layed on the beach instead and it was great until Ella splashed us with a huge cannon ball! They all started laughing at us. We went to arts and crafts next and me and Molly drew pictures. We went to dinner and then to the campfire. Then we had free time. Overall it was a pretty great day. Hopefully all the days will be like this.

CHAPTER 6

Molly

This morning my beauty sleep got interrupted by the birds screeching. Paisley said it was the birds singing but I think otherwise. I dragged myself out of bed to get ready for the day. We chatted while we waited our turn to use the bathroom to get dressed and do whatever we needed to do. I probably took the longest to get ready. After everyone was ready we headed to the mess hall for breakfast. No other second grade cabins were walking towards the mess hall so either we were early or we were late. We surprisingly were early. There wasn't much good food to choose from. There was yogurt but it looked like spoiled milk and was brown-ish. There were pancakes but they were burnt to the crisp. The only good thing there was some strawberries and water. I guess that's what I'm having for breakfast today. I went and found a table by myself and waited patiently for Raymond to arrive. Julian's cabin walked in next and he searched for someone, probably Ella. He spotted me and gave a small wave. I waved back and continued waiting for Raymond. A girl from my cabin, Faye, I think it was, comes over.

"Is this seat taken?" she asks.

"Yeah, sorry," I say. She nods and goes and sits with Ollie. Next Ella's cabin walks in. She waves at me and I returnΒ
