Things To Know Before You Read
I am not the most talented author, but I am trying my best so please don't judge
Most of these characters belong to the ship killer who I am not going to name, but some belong to me and me only, please don't copy
This takes place when they are all in 5th grade, but I might also make different versions such as Middle School and High School (once I actually get to Middle School)
If you disagree with some of the things I write, please feel free to let me know kindly
Yes, I know they are only 5th graders buttttttt, some ships included in this are Clato, Everlark, Fannie, Thinch, Gadge, Prory, and Glarvel, if you don't like those ships then sucks
Some different POVs I will write from are Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, Clove Kentwell, Cato Hadley, Johanna Mason, Annie Cresta, Finnick Odair, Madge Undersee, Gale Hawthorne, Finch Crossley, Thresh Morrowson, Delly Cartwright, Prim Everdeen, Rue Barnette, Rory Hawthrone, and maybe some of the teachers if I feel like it
The chapters are really long because I am trying to fit everyone's POV into one, them narrating the same things basically
I hope you enjoy this book!
Chapter One ~ The First Day Of School
KATNISS POV
I slap my hand over my alarm clock which is buzzing, to my annoyance. Maybe I can fake being sick to get out of going to school. No, that would most definitely not work. My mother, a certified child's pediatrician, would know right away that I felt completely fine except for the nerves fluttering around in my stomach like butterflies. I suppose they're more like bees since they are producing a sick feeling in my stomach. I force myself to roll out of bed, quite literally, and I hit the floor with a thud, my blanket covering me like a cocoon. I wish I could stay here all day. It would be much easier than going to school.ย
Today marks the first day of school at Panem Elementary, the most prestigious elementary school in the state of Washington, as their Facebook page states. It is my first day of 5th grade and my first day of school at this new building I'm supposed to call my school.ย
We moved to the upper corner of Washington late July because my mother decided to remarry after 5 years to Plutarch Heavensbee, a rich, stupid, gray haired man who owned a large mansion type house in Panem City. Mom decided to move in with him since his place was much larger than our scrawny little brick home back in California.ย
Although it was scrawny, it was still our home for eleven years, we had lived there since I was born. My dad died when I was seven, my younger sister Prim was three, and this sent my mother into a state of unhappiness, only which changed when she met Plutarch by chance at a doctor's convention in upper California. As a result of all that, now I have to go to a stupid 'prestigious school' whose bus leaves precisely 30 minutes. Huh. I must've fallen asleep as I was recalling my stupid past.ย
I jumped up, sending my covers flying and flew into the bathroom with my clothes and a towel. I took a quick shower, well as quick as it can possibly be while still cleaning myself well. After nearly squirting shampoo into my eye twice, I hopped out now fresh, and combed through my hair as I picked up my clothes I had set out for today with my feet and brought it into the bathroom as well.ย
After successfully untangling all the knots in my dark hair, my fingers wove it into a quick singular braid which fell down my back. I dressed in my outfit, a simple dark green t-shirt and black leggings, brushed my teeth with my too-strong mint toothpaste, and slid down the banister and down the stairs.
Plutarch hates when I do that which makes it all so much better. Checking my forest green watch, as my mom had stated, "You are much too young for a phone Kat!" I found out it was 7:15, five minutes before the bus was scheduled to leave.ย
I found Prim at the table reading a new book she got from the local library, her new favorite place since we moved here. I swiftly grabbed a piece of toast as it flew up from the toaster, how, I don't know, and ushered her out the door, grabbing my dark green backpack on the way. Sensing a theme here?ย
I yelled a quick goodbye to Mom, specifically excluding Plutarch from goodbyes and stumbled out the door, Prim in tow. Just in time too. The ugly yellow bus which read Panem Elementary in faded writing on the side, pulled up in front of our house, we live on the corner of the street, and me and Prim clambered on. The bus driver, a squat man with funny looking yellow hair and make up on, gave a curt nod to us as we stumbled upon the bus, barely avoiding tripping over the awkwardly large bus step.ย
I led Prim to the nearest open seat, earning side eyes from kids who had been at Panem Elementary their whole life, never seeing us once. We slid into our spot and I took a deep breath in for the first time that day. Prim immediately pulled out her book and continued from where she left off. Prim had always been an advanced reader, reading several levels ahead of where she should be for a second grader. In fact, currently she was reading the Harry Potter series, a series I had given up on somewhere between page one of the first book and page two of the first book. Reading has never been my strength. I always enjoyed math class more.ย
Someone across the aisle cleared their throat, inviting me to look their way. I did and my eyes found themselves upon an average sized girl with choppy, dyed red hair who looked to be about my age. She wore a plain black t-shirt with matching black jean shorts along with some worn, white, Nike tennis shoes. She had wide set brown eyes which were scanning me up and down.
"Hi," she said, startling me out of my surveying state. "I'm Johanna, Johanna Mason. You new?" I nodded.
"I'm Katniss Everdeen. Are you going into 5th grade too?" She nodded back.
"Got Ms Trinket. Heard from my sis she's the worst one," the girl said, clearly annoyed.
"I have her too," I say, remembering back to the day Mom got an email about the teacher I would be appointed.
"Where you from?" she asked, examining her nails which were painted a shiny red, the color of blood.
"California. Moved this summer because my Mom remarried to some stupid rich dude," I scoffed. Johanna smirked.
"Parents got divorced when I was nine, Mom never came back," she said, acting as if it wasn't a big deal.
"I'm sorry. If it makes you feel any better, my dad died when I was seven," I say. I have no clue why I am revealing this to a complete stranger, but here I am. But oh well, this girl seems trustworthy enough. Johanna decided to change the subject right then.
"You doing band?" she asked.
"Yeah," I nodded. "Flute, how 'bout you?"
"Trombone. Partially because it is the best instrument, partially because I could take off someone's head with it. She smiled demonically and I made a mental note to not get on her bad side.
"How nice," I said sarcastically. She looked up at me from her blood nails and looked me up and down again.
"I like you. I'll introduce you to the group before the bell. Ms Trinket won't mind. My sis said she doesn't start class until 20 minutes after the bell rings for the school day to start." I nod hesitantly but silently agree to meet her 'group'.ย
Johanna pulled out her phone which had a black phone case with pictures of skulls on it and started texting rapidly. The school bus screeched to a stop moments later with a monstrous sound as the doors swished open. Being towards the front of the bus, I followed Johanna out, Prim behind me, a couple minutes after the bus had stopped. Prim thanked the bus driver, something I had forgotten to do and we hopped down the steps and onto the cool gray pavement.ย
Panem Elementary was one story but decently long and wide. The 5th grade classrooms were on the opposite side to the bus stop with the second grade classrooms on the way, as I had seen at our private Open House. I dropped Prim off with her teacher Ms Cashmere, a perky blonde with emerald colored eyes and an unnerving smile. I worried about Prim as Johanna and I crossed the 'intersection' as Johanna called it, where four hallways met. I declared silently that she would be fine. Prim was always better at making friends than me and was super sweet.ย
After passing another 'intersection' Johanna led me to the 'pod', a crescent moon shaped hallway which was declared for the 5th graders. Our new classroom was in the corner of the 'pod' and had a brightly colored 'Welcome to 5th Grade!' poster above the mahogany door. There was a row of dark, navy blue lockers to the right of the classroom and Johanna found hers which was the second one. She shared it with some girl named Glimmer who had already placed her magenta backpack in the locker neatly.ย
I walked a couple lockers down and noticed there was no one else in the 'pod' besides a large man with a paintbrush dipped in white paint who was smearing it over the walls which I just noticed had fading paint on it. I scrunch my nose up at the smell and find my locker, the third to last one. The names Katniss Everdeen and Clove Kentwell are on small little rectangular cards that vary in color. I opened my new locker to find my new lockermates deep red backpack shoved messily onto the right hook, a couple of loose papers falling out of it. I, like my new lockermate, wasn't the neatest person and shoved my backpack in like hers and quickly followed Johanna over to the mahogany door.ย
She gripped the handle and swung the door open, almost hitting the wall, to a too-bright classroom with about twenty or so kids already in it. There was no teacher in sight and there were kids drawing on the whiteboards, playing hangman, kids sitting on large desks which were clustered together in groups of five, some with six, there were kids sitting in those desks drawing on their hands and I immediately knew this class would be great. Johanna led me over to a group of kids chatting in a corner, on colorful bean bags and began to introduce me.
"Y'all, this is Katniss Everdeen, just moved here from Cali and I am promoting her to our group," she said. She turned to me. "Now, introductions!" She decided to go around the circle the group was sitting in.
"Finch Crossley," she said, gesturing to a redhead with glasses and a bundle of freckles stretched across her face. The girl was intensely reading How To Kill A Mockingbird. "Can call her Foxface. She plays the clarinet and does basketball. Loves reading." Finch gave a brief thumbs up my way.ย
"Madge Undersee," Johanna said pointing her painted finger nail at a petite strawberry blonde girl with pale blue eyes. Madge waved and smiled brightly at me. "Is in choir. Is a history geek." Madge smiled at the last part and Johanna moved on.ย
"Glimmer Belcourt," she gestured to a tall golden blonde girl with emerald eyes and make up all over her face, which she somehow made it look good. "Also in choir, plays volleyball, call her Glim, flirts a lot but is super bad at it." Glimmer fake gasped and dramatically put a hand to her heart.ย
"Delly Cartwright," she said pointing at a blonde girl in the back corner. Delly had blonde, wavy hair and large blue eyes. "Plays clarinet too, also in choir, excellent writer." Delly beamed at the compliment.ย
"Annie Cresta," she pointed at another redhead with freckles who was scratching at some teal, worn off nail polish on her thumb. "Plays flute, absolute queen at drawing." Annie smiled shyly and turned a soft pink color.ย
"And finally, the most difficult one, Clove Kentwell," Johanna said, gesturing to a small black haired girl with freckles like sprinkles on her face. The girl's frame was small and she was like four feet tall compared to Glimmer's five foot structure. Clove glared at Johanna's commentary but Johanna just ignored it. "Plays saxophone, loves photography, plays basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball, on swim team, could beat up anyone in this room, and is also skilled at throwing knives for some reason. Apparently some whack summer camp taught it to her and now she is in love," she said, rolling her eyes. Clove spoke up.
"Johanna Mason, the super obnoxious idiot. Plays trombone so she can kill you with it, dyed her hair red to make her mom mad, has anger issues, plays volleyball and softball, on my teams of course. Call her Jo." I nodded, slowly. Weird group of people but they seemed nice enough. Johanna sat me down next to her and Glimmer burst into a description of the group of boys who were on the opposite side of the room from us.
"Those are what we call The Hotties," she said, a shimmer in her eyes.
"What you call the hotties," Clove corrected. "To me, they are the big idiots who don't know crap."
"Sure," Johanna said.
"Anyways, tall blonde is Cato Hadley," she said, pointing at a tall blonde like she said, with blue eyes. "Plays basketball, hockey, and football, has a thing for Clove."
"Does not," Clove butted in again, rolling her eyes in disgust.
"Does too," Glimmer argued back. She continued the descriptions, refusing to let Clove continue arguing. "Tall black hair is Thresh, plays baritone, plays football." Thresh was a tall dark skinned boy with black hair that matched his dark eyes. He looked very terrifying somehow even though we were all in 5th grade.ย
"Tall, brunette is Gale Hawthorne," she pointed at the one next to Thresh. He had almond eyes and was a little shorter than Thresh and Cato who were about the same height. "Plays trumpet, plays hockey with Cato. The hottest one with the light brown hair is Marvel Sanford. He plays trumpet, does football, hockey, baseball, and is on the lacrosse team." Marvel had messy light brown hair and light eyes. He was laughing loudly at something Thresh had said and his eyes lit up when he did.ย
"Finnick Odair is the one with the shiny blonde hair. Plays basketball, baseball, on the swim team. Annie and him are boyfriend and girlfriend, dating since 2nd grade." Finnick had shiny blonde hair alright and it shimmered in the advancing sunlight. He had sea green eyes and was eating what looked to be sugar cubes from out of his hand. I thought it was kind of weird how they had been dating since 2nd grade, but whatever.ย
"Short blonde is Peeta Mellark. His mom owns a bakery, he plays clarinet, and is in choir." Peeta was the shortest of all the boys falling just under Finnick's height and had ashy blonde hair and blue eyes. Glimmer clapped and squealed excitedly.
"Now, Katniss. Tell us 'bout yourself,'' Johanna said, popping a Cheez It in her mouth. No clue where she found it but oh well.
"Katniss Everdeen," I said, giving an awkward little half-wave. "I play clarinet, I'm in choir, I play volleyball and soccer. You can call me Kat."
"I'm calling you KitKat," Johanna immediately declared. Everyone laughed including me, but we were cut off by a loud squeal coming from, yep, you guessed it, Glimmer.
"Lucky Charms," she breathed.
"Means her hotties are coming," Johanna translated from next to me. From behind me came a voice.
"What's up ladies?" Cato attempted to say in a flirtatious tone. News flash, it didn't work on anyone except for Glimmer who was blushing beet red.
"Who's the new girl?" Marvel asked.
"This is Katniss Everdeen. She just moved here from Cali," Johanna explained.
"Nice to meet you. Wanna sugar cube?" Finnick asked. I looked at him weird and shook my head.
"No thanks," I said. He side eyed me before popping one in his mouth.
"So, how was y'all's summer?" Cato asked, leaning against a nearby desk. Everyone responded with 'Fine.'s and 'Okay's or 'Terrible's. Cato opened his mouth to say something else but got cut off by the door getting flung open. A pink haired lady with milk colored skin strutted in the classroom. Her outfit was truly hideous. A puke colored dress with too many frills to count. Her lips were caked with lime green lipstick and matched the color of her eyeshadow. She looked interesting, I'll tell you that much.
"Hello, hello, Class! Everyone go to your desks, today is a big, big, day!" she shrilled. I immediately hated her voice. It was several octaves higher than it should be and had way too much enthusiasm for 8:00 in the morning.ย
Everyone reluctantly did what they were supposed to, the hangman kids erasing the whiteboards, the kids who were chatting on top of desks that had been pushed together placing the desks where they had been before, and the kids who were drawing tattoos on their hands shoving their pens and markers back into their desk drawers. I realized I hadn't located my desk spot yet and searched for it among the many clusters of three to four desks.ย
I saw one table read Finch Crossley, Gale Hawthorne, Finnick Odair, and Glimmer Belcourt and another that read Delly Cartwright, Madge Undersee, Thresh Morrowson, and Marvel Sanford. A third one read Annie Cresta, Johanna Mason, and another girl I didn't know. Finally, I found my table which branded the names Clove Kentwell, Katniss Everdeen, Cato Hadley, and Peeta Mellark.ย
I took a seat at my spot which was in between Clove and Peeta and I looked to Ms Trinket. Once everyone found their seats, Ms Trinket clapped again, louder this time gaining everyone's attention.ย
"Welcome to 5th Grade, Class! I am your teacher, Ms Trinket, but you may call me Effie. Now, before we begin, we will go around and say our first names, last names, and what you are looking forward to this year. We will start with you Miss," Effie said, pointing a long milk finger at Glimmer. Glimmer smiled brightly at everyone as she introduced herself, even though most kids already knew each other.
"Hi, I'm Glimmer Belcourt and this year I am looking forward to having an amazing teacher!" she beamed. I rolled my eyes, another teacher's pet. At my last school, there was this one kid named Hilary who was the biggest teacher's pet in the history of teacher's pets. Clove snickered at my reaction.
"Besides being a huge teacher's pet, Glim's pretty chill, moved here in second grade." she explained. Next went Finnick.
"Hey y'all. I'm Finnick Odair and I am looking forward to lunch!" he exclaimed. A couple people laughed and it was onto Gale. Gale, from what I saw, looked like a nerd and seemed really weird, and not in a good way.
"Hi, I'm Gale and I am looking forward to..... I don't know," he said, shrugging. Effie rolled her eyes and pointed at the next child who happened to be Finch.
"Hi, I'm Finch Crossley and I'm looking forward to a new class library," she said. Clove leaned over to me again.
"She read every single book in our classroom library last year and even requested visiting another class'. I swear the amount of books she reads is unhealthy." I laughed under my breath so Effie couldn't hear, but she had already moved onto Delly's table.
"Hello, I'm Delly Cartwright and I am looking forward to writing," she said, quietly.
"She won some state writing comp over the summer and is the most talented writer in the whole school," Clove said to me. I nodded at the new information.
"Hello, I am Thresh Morrowson and I am looking forward to band," he said, his voice somehow low and gravely, like an older boy's instead of a 5th grader's.
"Hey, I'm Madge Undersee, and I am looking forward to History," she said, smiling sweetly.
"What's up? I'm The Marvelous Marvel Sanford and I am looking forward to a longer recess," Marvel stated loudly. Next table was Johanna's.
"I'm Johanna and I'm looking forward to nothing. Wait, actually I'm looking forward to the last day of school," she said, smirking slightly.
"I'm Annie Cresta," Annie said, side eyeing Johanna's answer. "I am looking forward to art."
"I'm Marina Lakely and I am looking forward to math," a small black haired girl said quietly. Next was our table. Oh gosh.
"Hello. I am Peeta Mellark and I am looking forward to band and choir," Peeta said from next to me. Dang it, now it was my turn.
"Um, I'm Katniss Everdeen, I'm new, and I am looking forward to meeting new people I guess," I said, stuttering. I felt my face get hot as I concluded my statement.
"I'm Clove Kentwell and I am looking forward to P.E.," Clove said.
"I am Cato Hadley and I am looking forward to P.E. too," he said, fiddling with his hands.
"Hey, you stole mine!" Clove complained, slapping his shoulder.
"So?" Cato replied. Clove huffed and rolled her eyes. "Keep doing that, maybe you'll find a brain back there."
"SHUT UP!" Clove yelled.
"Is there a problem?" Effie asked, turning to our table.
"Yes, it's Cato!" Clove complained.
"Do I need to separate you two?" Effie asked.
"Yes please!" begged Clove. Effie offered us one more half glance before turning back to a brunette dude who was sharing. Clove muttered a not so nice word under her breath, directed towards Cato. I rolled my eyes at the two and leaned over to Peeta.
"20 bucks they'll confess they like each other by the end of the school year," I whisper to him.
"Deal," he replies, shaking my hand. I only have a brief moment to take notice of how soft his hand is before Effie calls for our attention again.
"Today, our schedule looks like this. At 9:00 we will..." I tune her out. I find a random string on my desk and start twirling it around my fingers. I already don't like the building, the teacher, and the bus. The only minorly good thing is that the people seem pretty nice. Let's just hope we make it through the year.
CATO POV
BZZZ! I reach over to slap my alarm clock only to realize it isn't the thing going off. I check the time on the alarm and it reads 6:25, a full 20 minutes before I am to be awake. Oh well. Another buzz. I find the producer of the buzz, my phone, and notice 26 missed messages. Of course I would get 26 messages at 6:25am. BZZZ! 27.ย
I unlock my phone and find that two separate group chats are texting simultaneously. One is the boys group chat which includes all of the boys who have a phone in our 'group' (me, Marvel, Finnick, and Gale). The other is the group chat consisting of the girls and the boys groups with the people who have phones (Me, Marvel, Finnick, Gale, Clove, Glimmer, Finch, and Johanna).ย
I tap on the boys one first and find Finnick and Marvel texting about whose dog is cuter, Finnick's golden retriever, Fido, or Marvel's Bernese mountain dog, Nessie. I personally believe that Marvel's dog is cuter but I would prefer not to get into that right now. I opened the other group chat. Glimmer and Finch are trying to convince Clove and Johanna to wear something nicer than a plain t-shirt and shorts but Clove and Johanna are not giving up.
Glim: come on!
Glim: it's the first day of school, u have to at least wear a nicer shirt?
Jo: no
Clover: y shld i??
Clover: what's wrong with my outfit now???
Jo: what r yall even wearing
*Glim sent an image*
She sent a picture of a loose pink crop top and jean shorts along with some sandals.
*Foxface sent an image*
Finch sent an outfit a little more toned down and consisted of a navy sweater with some jean shorts and sandals as well.
Jo: ๐คฎ
Clover: ew
Glim: js bc it's not smth u wld wear doesn't mean it's not pretty!
Foxface: eh idc what they think
Foxface: now imma go read โ๏ธyalls
Clover: bai
Jo: bye
*Foxface went offline*
Glimmer: now i'm by myself!
Clover: ๐
Jo: ๐๐๐๐
Glim: ๐
Glim: what r ur outfits???
*Jo sent an image*
Johanna's outfit was a plain black t-shirt and some black jean shorts with some tennis shoes.
*Clover sent an image*
Clove's outfit was a dark red shirt with some black gym shorts and some black Chuck Taylors.
Glim: y'all r hopeless
*Glim went offline*
Jo: cato u can stop being a stalker now
Clover: we know ur there
I roll my eyes and respond.
You: morning
*Jo went offline*
You: wsp clover?
Clover: don't call me that or i'll slit ur throat
You: ok clover
*Clover went offline*
I chuckle, it's so easy to make her mad. Checking the time and realizing I'm supposed to meet Marvel at his house in ten minutes (me, Clove, him, and Glimmer always meet up at his house on the first day of school early), I hurry to the bathroom and throw on a red t-shirt (A/N: not me js realizing Clove and Cato would be matching.....) with some shorts and comb through my hair before deciding I look fine. I brush my teeth and run down the stairs, skipping every other one, and into the dining room.
"Morning Cato!" my younger sister Cassie, exclaims from where she is happily eating her toast.
"'Sup Cass? Excited for 2nd grade?" I respond, pouring myself some cereal from the cupboard. She nods eagerly as I take a seat next to her. As I shovel cereal down my throat, she looks at me quizzically. "Meeting Marvel in six," I explained. Marvel, Clove and I have been best friends since we were little and our parents were always hanging out causing us to become close.
"Are Clove and Glimmer going to be there?" she asks.
"I think so. Maybe not Glimmer, I heard she maybe was getting a ride from her sister." Glimmer moved here in second grade and was welcomed into the group. I finish my cereal and grab my backpack and head out the door, calling a goodbye to Cassie and my dad (my mom was already at work).ย
The first thing I see when I come out of our large house is Clove coming out of her's across the street. Both of us live on 2nd street which is only a short walk from Marvel's house a block away. "Hey Clover!" I called out. She looks up from her phone which she had taken out of her dark red backpack and glares at me from across the street. "Hey, I'm not that bad!" I half walk, half jog over to her side of the street where she stands at the end of her driveway.
"You know I hate that nickname," she glares up at me.
"Yeah, I do know," I smirk back down at her. Clove is about a foot shorter than me and stands below my armpit, which I always find a way to tease her about.
"We're going to be late for Marvel's," she said, continuing her walk, leaving me standing at the foot of her driveway. "Hurry up Blondie," she calls when I don't follow at first. I quickly follow behind her.
"How's your summer?" I ask, trying to spark a conversation.
"Fine," she said, not looking up from her phone as she walked beside me.
"Here's the part where you ask how my summer went," I explain.
"No," is all I get as a response. We walk in silence the rest of the way to Marvel's, Clove's fingers dancing across her screen the whole time. I peer over her shoulder to find her in a full conversation with Johanna. I see the words, kill, knife, murder, new girl, join, and then murder again. Dang, these girls are obsessed with murdering.
"Who's the new girl?" I ask, interrupting the moments of silence we had had.
"Why are you looking at my texts?" she responds, glaring up at me. I notice her soft brown eyes have the slightest hint of blue in them. Almost the color of the sky, hidden beneath the wood colored irises. They are quite beautiful. I mentally kick myself. Knock it off Cato. Clove is one of your best friends. She has been for seven years.ย
Clove finally gives in. "Jo met her on the bus. Name's Katniss, moved from Cali, in our class, going to play flute, has a little sister in Cassie, Cedar, Rory, and Rue's grade, dad died, mom remarried to some rich dude, moved here this summer," she explains.ย
I nod and we reach Marvel's driveway. Marvel's house is huge, bigger than mine, and has a large balcony overlooking the backyard. Me, Clove, and him would repel down it during the summer when his parents were asleep to grab snacks from the kitchen.ย
Clove and I stand at the door and Clove, instead of knocking, throws the door right open as if it was her own house. It might as well be. Clove's parents are terrible and she normally finds comfort in hanging out at me or Marvel's houses when they argue. Glimmer slides into the hallway with her socks skidding across the floor and greets us warmly, me with a wave, and Clove with a hug to her disgust. I snicker at her expression and she shoots another glare my way. Marvel comes around the corner and greets us both as well.
"What's up y'all?" Marvel asks, inviting us to drop our backpacks and kick off our shoes since school doesn't start for another hour. We do so and follow Marvel up the stairs to his bedroom. Marvel's bedroom is large and roomy and has navy, painted walls with loads of posters plastered over it. Not as much as Clove has, but still a lot. Marvel throws himself onto his bed, Clove a large sofa, Glimmer next to her, and me a large spinny chair.
"Who does not want to go back to school?" Clove asks, tossing a ball she found up in the air and then catching it.
"Everyone in the history of everyone," I answered with a groan.
"Agreed," states Marvel. Ding. Clove pulls out her phone and her fingers dance across the screen again. I push my chair over to where she is sitting and peer over her shoulder. She proceeds to elbow me in the gut and I push slightly out of her space.
"Who's it from?" I ask.
"Why do you care?" she asks, looking up at me with an eye roll.
"Who is it?" Glimmer tries.
"Jo," Clove responds.
"Hey!" I say, throwing my arms up in the air. Clove just snickers and rolls her beautiful eyes. Stop it Cato.
"She's still on the bus and is talking about killing Finnick before school starts and if Ms Trinket will care," she says boredly.
"Ms Trinket won't care, but Annie will," I say.
"How long have they been dating? 3 years?" Marvel asks.
"Yep," Clove and Glimmer respond simultaneously.
"Are we still having our annual sleepover?" Glimmer asks. Ever since our 'group' formed (me, Clove, Glimmer, Marvel, Annie, Finnick, Thresh, Finch, Madge, Gale, Peeta, Delly, and Johanna), we have had an annual sleepover the night after the first day of school since school has always started on a Friday for some weird reason. Clove nods a response, still transfixed on her phone.
"Jo says she might invite this new girl after she introduces her to us," Clove said. "Ugh, why more people I have to actually get along with?" she says, throwing her pale arms in the air.ย
