INTRODUCTION
You might not know me - well you probably don't know me at all - but you have to have at least heard of my sister, the infamous Lily Evans. She's pretty, and smart, and is good at everything. Well except being nice to her sisters. And she is a fraud. Of course I've never told anyone that though. My name is Daisy Marie Evans and I am a Muggleborn. Mudblood, if you must. The name Mudblood doesn't affect me. I have an older sister named Petunia Evans, a muggle. I'm closer to her than my twin. She despises Lily, as she used to me, but after some convincing, I finally convinced her that if I had to choose between being a Muggle and being a witch, I would choose a Muggle. Petunia is different from us. Well, for starters, she is a Muggle, while us witches, but also in appearance. Lily and I both have fiery red hair, emerald green eyes, whilst she has brownish blonde ish hair, and brown eyes. She tells us and herself she is ugly and no one likes her or wants to be friends with her. I disagree. She is beautiful, inside and out and she has friends, I'm sure of that. I for one, am her friend and she had some kids named Sara, Vernon, Marge, and Jack over once. Lily Evans is my twin, while she doesn't show it. She is the favorite child, and our parents make no effort in hiding their love for her. She is super popular and has tons of friends. She even has this guy that asks her out every day. She never agrees though and the whole school thinks they would be a good couple. Everyone thinks Lily is this sweet, kind, never-does-anything-wrong person. Maybe she is to their faces, but at home she is horrid to me. One time, I intercepted one of her owls before it was sent to her friend Marlene McKinnon. It read:
Dear Marlene,
I am doing well, how about you? I miss Hogwarts and all my friends though. I especially miss you and Mary. Daisy has been annoying me all summer. I swear I can't get a break. Her and Petunia are always smiling and laughing and I just can't with them. Sometimes I wish they weren't my sisters. I hope you have a great rest of your holiday, excited to see you soon!
With lots of love,
Your Friend,
Lily Evans
I had burst into tears after reading it. I am not one to cry but when your twin sister says she doesn't want you as her sister, it's hard not to. I had shown the letter to Petunia and she scoffed in disgust.
"She has no right to do that, especially behind our backs," she had told me, in her bedroom after I had shown her the letter. Right now, I am on my bed, writing a letter to my best friend, Alice Fortescue. We have been friends ever since first year, when we met on the train after Lily had left me to go to a different compartment. Alice and I were the outcasts of the school. We never drew attention towards ourselves and tried to avoid all of the drama and gossip. We shared a dormitory with Lily, Marlene, and Mary, who stayed up late talking on Lily's bed, curtains drawn tight, and a Silencing Charm set. Alice and I didn't care what other people thought though.
*********
I was way smarter than her sister, but I never showed it. I was way nicer but I never expressed it. I always longed to prank a classmate or Professor but never did so, due to not wanting to draw attention to myself. Daisy Evans has stayed in the shadows. Until now.
CHAPTER ONE
I knocked on Petunia's door and it flung open.
"Petunia" I yelled "you needed me?"
"Yes, yes, come, come," she invites. I follow her into her room, a pale blue color wrapping around the walls, a four poster bed, neatly made of course, against one wall while and closet towards the other. The closet didn't have many clothes in it. Nor did mine. Lily's was fuller than Petunia and mine but not by much. You see, our family isn't the wealthiest. When I first got my Hogwarts letter, saying I needed to get some stuff before coming, I had tried to decline the offer, saying it was too much to pay for Lily's and my school supplies, but they insisted we go. For Lily's sake of course. They couldn't care less about whether or not I was happy. For instance, I didn't really want to go. I was fine at home, with Petunia. But they forced me to go, so they didn't have to deal with me. I get into a lot of trouble at home. Stealing Lily's diary, sneaking onto the roof at night, when I am grounded, slipping Amber, my owl, out of her cage to send a letter to Alice. Petunia sat me down on her bed.
"Daisy, I think it's time."
"For what?"
"To show yourself."
"What?"
"Basically, we need you to come out of the shadows. Almost one up Lily in a sort. Like, for instance, I bet you 5 dollars, half the school doesn't know who you are, that Lily even has a sister. We are going to change that." I sigh.
"Tuney," I use my nickname for her. "I'm fine just how it is. Lily can have the spotlight, I don't care."
"Exactly. We need to get you to care. Lily, talks about you to her friends behind your back. Don't you want revenge?"
"I mean, yeah, but-" I never finish my sentence
"Exactly. I'm giving you a makeover whether you like it or not." I sigh, seeing there is no way out of this.
"Tomorrow, before you leave, I am going to show you different ways to do your makeup and hair. I will do it tomorrow morning alright?" I sigh again and nod.
"Good, tomorrow at six, I'm coming into your room. You can either already be awake or I will throw you off the bed."
"Ok, Mum," I say, rolling my eyes.
*******
The next morning, I woke up on the ground. I check the clock and it reads 6:06. Crap. I sit up and see Petunia coming over with her book bag for school.
"I'M UP, I'M UP!" I yell before she whacks me with it.
"Good, now first, go get dressed." She hands me a sweatshirt and some leggings, knowing I will just change on the train. Once I have changed, Petunia does my hair and make up. I look in the mirror after she has finished. My jaw about drops to the floor. She has curled my red hair a bit, just so it's a little wavy. She wove a small braid in it which is flowing into the rest of my hair which is smooth and silky. She went small on the makeup too, which I am glad for. Saying I am only 13 and in my 3rd year, I don't need much makeup. She just put on some blush and a little bit of mascara. It's perfect. Not to toot my own horn but I look gorgeous.
"Thanks, Tuney," I say, hugging my sister.
"You're welcome. I try," she jokes. I laugh and go to pack my trunk.
*******
"Slow down, Lily!" I yell, scrambling after her through King's Cross Station. We enter through the barrier onto Platform Nine and Three Quarters. Lily bids goodbye to our parents and gives Petunia a stiff wave while I tackle Petunia in a hug saying I'll miss her, and give our parents an awkward side hug. When I turn around, Lily has already disappeared onto the train. I sigh and heave my trunk and myself onto the train. I find Alice, waiting for me in our own little compartment towards the back. I shove my trunk up top and plop down across from her.
"DAISY MARIE EVANS! YOU LOOK AMAZING!" she practically screams.
"Thanks, Tuney did it."
"Well you look great, how was your holiday?"
"Meh, yours?"
"It was fun. We got to go visit my cousin in France."
"That's fun," I say. We catch up and chat a bit and Alice then goes to find Frank, her technically boyfriend. After she leaves, I pull out a book and start reading Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. About five minutes later, the compartment door opens. Assuming it's Alice, I keep reading.
"Who are you?" That's not Alice, that's for sure. I look up and four boys are standing at the door, staring at me. The one that asked the question, has black messy hair and shiny hazel eyes behind his circular glasses. Next to him is a guy with long, black, messy hair. He keeps running his hand through it. Another boy had brown hair and scars all over his face. They are all really tall. The last boy is short and has blonde hair. I recognize them as the four trouble makers in Gryffindor, who have narrowly escaped expulsion multiple times.
"Take a guess," I say, putting my book down.
"I don't know? A transfer student?" the glasses boy guesses.
"No, idiot, I'm a 3rd year student who has been at Hogwarts just as long as you," I say, rolling my eyes.
"Then what's your name?" the brown haired boy asks.
"Daisy Evans," I say. Their eyes widened.
"I didn't know Lily had a sister," the glasses boy said.
"A twin sister," I correct. Their eyes widen even more.
"How come I've never seen you before?" The brown haired boy asks. I shrug.
"I don't know, me and my best friend Alice don't really talk much I guess."
"My name is James Potter by the way," the bespectacled boy says.
"Yeah, I know, Lily talks about you all the time." His face brightens.
"What does she say about me?" He asks, a grin spreading across his face.
"She talks about the idiot toerag that is desperate to go out with her even though she has declined his offer 232 times," I say smirking. His face falls.
"I'm Remus Lupin," the brown haired boy says, changing the subject.
"Sirius Black," the long black haired boy says.
"And this is Peter Pettigrew," James says, gesturing to the blonde haired kid.
"Well, nice to officially meet you," I say.
"What do you mean officially?" Remus asks.
"Well practically the whole school knows who you are. The four boys that are the reason Gryffindor never wins the House Cup," I say plainly. They fake being hurt.
"Oof, that hurts Evans," Sirius says, placing a hand to his chest. I roll my eyes. "What is such a beautiful girl like you doing in a compartment alone?" he says, as he sits next to me, putting his arm around me.
"Get your arm off of me before I break it," I say, calmly. He slowly moves his arm back to his side. "And I'm not alone," I continue. "My friend, Alice was here but she left to go say hi to her boyfriend."
"Alice Fortescue?" James asks. I nod.
"She has a boyfriend?" Remus asks. I nod again.
"Well, kind of. They're not official but they are OBSESSED with each other," I explain. They still look confused but I brush it off. "Now can you leave? I'm trying to read here."
"Nah, we'll join you," Sirius says, making himself comfortable. I sigh and go back to reading. Soon the boys completely forget about me being there. They start practicing a spell. A spell 3rd years shouldn't even be able to do. I can do it, but only a couple of people know that.
"Expecto Patronum!" James yells. A wispy blue smoke comes out of the end of his wand. Just as suddenly as it appears it disappears.
"Why are you guys practicing Patronus?" I ask, setting my book down.
"Um, well, we can't exactly tell you," James says, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I could help you guys, you know," I suggested.
"You know how to do one?" Remus and Sirius say at the same time. I nod.
"Can we see?" James asks. I nod again and pull out my wand. I think of my happiest memory, me and Petunia. It's summertime and we are having a picnic in our backyard. Lily's there too. This was before we got our Hogwarts letter. Before Lily ditched us. Me and Lily are about 7, Petunia, 9.
"Expecto Patronum," I say. The same blue wisp that came out of James' wand, comes out mine, except mine starts forming into something. A small fox. The fox jumps around the compartment as the boys gawk at it with shock written all over their faces. The fox disappears, as I lower my wand.
"That. Was. So. Cool," they all say, simultaneously. I laugh.
"So, can I help you?" I ask, hopefully. They look at eachother, as if speaking telepathically.
"Maybe, after we get to know you more," James says, scratching the back of his head. My face falls.
"Ok," I say. I put my wand away and go back to reading. They look at me apologetically, then go back to a conversation. I roll my eyes. The compartment door opens and I look up to see Lily, Mary, and Marlene standing there, scowls on their faces.
"Lily Flower!" James says excitedly. He stands up to give her a hug but she pushes him back into his chair.
"I'm not here for you. Daisy, what are you doing in here?" Lily says.
"This is my compartment?" I say\ask.
"I thought you didn't have any friends," she snaps.
"Ok, 1, these weirdos came into my compartment and 2, I have friends, Alice just went to go see Frank," I snap back.
"That's not much of a friend is it?" Marlene sniggers.
"Say it again," I threaten.
"That's not much of a friend is it?" she repeats.
"Furnunculus," I say, whipping out my wand. Suddenly, boils and pimples start appearing all over Marlene's face. She shrieks and runs to the Healing Center.
"How da-" Lily starts as she pulls out her wand. I'm too fast.
"Expelliarmus," I shout. Her wand flies into my hand. Mary tries pulling out her wand but I'm again, faster. "Aguamenti," I say. Water shoots out of my wand, hits Mary square in the face causing her to drop her wand. I get up and walk over to them. I throw Lily back her wand which she fails to catch (she was never good at softball growing up). "This is what you get for talking behind my back and insulting Alice," I hissed. Then I slam the door shut and sit back down in a huff, put my wand away, and pull out my book again. The book suddenly gets pulled out of my hands. "Hey, give that back," I say to Sirius, trying to grab it. I'm too short though.
"You do that and then go back to reading like nothing happened?" he says, in disbelief. I shrug.
"They can insult me all they want, but they do not insult my best friend. Now can I have my book back?" I explain, still grabbing for my book.
"No," he says. I sigh.
"Those spells were like, really good. Like really good," James says.
"Thanks. Now why can't I have my book?" I say.
"We want to hear the story," Sirius says, dangling my book in my reach then pulling it higher when I make a grab for it.
"What story?" I ask.
"You told Lily and Mary 'This is what you get for talking behind my back.'," James explains.
"Well what if I don't want to tell you?" I say.
"Then no book," Sirius says. I shrug.
"Ok," I say. They shrug and go back to their previous conversation. While they are looking out the window, facing away from me, I stand on my tip toes on the seat, reach into my trunk and grab another book. Luckily, they don't turn back around. I started reading Quidditch Through the Ages.
"And what do you think you're doing?" Sirius says, snatching the book out of my hands.
"Can I just read in peace?" I exclaim, throwing my hands up in the air. He laughs. I roll my eyes and snatch the book out of his hands.
"Fine, but we will get it out of you," he says. The train suddenly screeches to a halt, sending Sirius flying forwards. I laugh along with the other boys. We get up and head to the train door. I hop off, the boys following me and we walk over to the carriages.
"Alice!" I call out, waving her over. She scurries over excitedly.
"Ooh, hanging out with the icons of the school I see?" she says, elbowing me softly, pulling me away from the four.
"Shut up. They barged into my compartment after someone left me alone for her boyfriend," I say pointedly.
"He's not my boyfriend Dais!" she exclaims.
"Sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night," I say, rolling my eyes. The four boys from the train watch our interaction. I turn around and glare at them. "You know, it's quite rude to stare," I call out, making some of them turn a soft pink color. They strut over to us.
"So this must be Alice right?" Remus asks. Alice pales and nods quietly. She gets nervous under pressure.
"Where's your boyfriend?" James asks. She turns a deep pink shade and turns toward me as a smirk crawls across my face.
"DAISY MARIE EVANS WHAT DID YOU TELL THEM?" she yells, making me chuckle.
"The truth. And quit pulling out the government name Al," I say, punching her softly. She rolls her eyes. A carriage pulls up right at that moment, saving me from an Alice rampage and we all clamber on.Β
