Chapter 3

20:44, 14 February 2015

The boys opened their mouths in shock when we walked in, eyes mostly on Adam.

“I think we need to have a little chat.” I told them.

“You are an angel.” James smiled, puling me into a hug.

“I know. Now talk.” I took a seat out of the way and watched as they talked.

“Dude, you aren’t well. We are worried about you.” James sighed.

“She’s just a girl, there’s thousands out there.” Mickey told him.

“I don’t want another girl.” Adam muttered angrily.

“You don’t need to drown your sorrows, write some songs or something. But don’t do this to yourself, you are killing yourself Adam.” Jesse pleaded with him.

“Maybe that’s what I want. Did you think about that? I have been writing. They are all shit. I am useless. No wonder she fucking cheated.” Adam started off angry, but ended in tears. The boys stayed silent, just staring at him in shock. I was shocked too, this has really hurt Adam and he obviously blames himself.

“Adam, I hardly think that’s true.” I was the one to break the silence.

“You don’t even know me.”

“I don’t have to. Your music has helped thousands, brought smiles to their faces. Is that useless? And any girl would be lucky to have you.” James shot me a funny look at that, at least I was trying to get through to him, and it’s true. Not like I want him. Sure, he is pretty damn attractive. But, no. that would be weird.

“Really?” He asked, his voice quiet but sounding a little hopeful.

“Yep. Do you know what I think would help?” Adam looked at me out of the corner of his eye, which is a start. Definitely better then staring at the floor. “A little jamming session, what do ya say James? You up for it?”

“Course I am.” He smiled.

“What about you Adam, you going to come and take part or just watch?” I may be treating him a bit like a child, but so far it seems to be working.

“Watch.” He mumbled.

“Great. Someone lead the way.” Adam and Jesse led from the front, with James hanging onto Jesse’s shoulders. PJ ended up walking with me.

“Thanks Amelia. Really. We were giving up.” He sighed.

“No problem, he wants to be helped. At least part of him does.” He nodded slowly. “Honestly, I don’t really know what I did to get through to him.” I think everyone is a little surprised, I am a lot surprised.

“What is it that you do?” PJ asked.

“Modelling. Although I’d rather do music, but model work is fairly easy to come by.” I explained with a shrug. We walked into a room full of instruments, I don’t think it’s the studio although I know he has one. “This is too cool.” I grabbed a guitar off its stand, I couldn’t not do it.

“You play?” Jesse asked, making James laugh. I just smiled.

“She plays.” He nodded. They all looked a little confused.

“James helped teach me, we used to play together all the time growing up.”

“Oh. You must be good then.” PJ smiled, I gave him a thank you smile in return.

“She can sing too. Actually she is a lot like Adam really. Aren’t you Lee?” Lee. One of my many nicknames; Amelia, Lee, Amy, Lia(Leah) and Mel. Depends on the mood. Personally I have always liked Lee, I don’t know why.

“If you say so James, I wasn’t allowed round so I wouldn’t know.”

“Shut up and play already.” He laughed.

“Well, I think we should give Adam here quite the show. I have an idea.” I went up to James and whispered it into his ear.

“You can play that?”

“Dude. Are you kidding?”

“You’re right. Dumb question.” He then told the others what we were about to play, who just smiled at me.

“You sure you want this one?” Jesse asked, looking from me to Adam. Not sure what that’s meant to mean.

“100%” I replied confidently, Adam had actually looked up from the floor. At least he is interested now. “Be aware. Love this song live. But the studio version kinda sucks in comparison.” They all glared at me, except Adam who didn’t know what we were going on about. He isn’t drinking and is around people, so I count that as a win, despite the fact he is being awfully quiet. “Feel free to join in Adam.” I winked playfully, instantly regretting it. Not only because I know James would have blown his top if he saw, but the poor guy just broke up with his girl, he doesn’t want some random person winking at him. Luckily Adam didn’t react in any way at all.

“Are we playing or not?” James sighed.

“Sorry.” I let them start themselves, I was only singing and then do the guitar bit at the end. Wasted Years. The same version from their Friday 13th performance, love it. This place is cool, with the microphone I could almost pretend it was a real show.

“LEE! Stop daydreaming.” James laughed.

“Sorry, I was thinking about the song. Start again please.” I apologised, looking a little like a kicked puppy I’m sure because they immediately softened their gazes and soon had started all over again. This time I came in at the right point, Adam was listening properly now, in fact, I think I see a smile. I knew I must look stupid, I have a habit of closing my eyes and making what could only be weird faces. And a little like Adam, I do some weird stuff with my arms. But oh well, I was enjoying myself. I just love that bit before the guitar solo, when Adam would do those ‘ooh’ noises that almost sound like moans. Now, my favourite part, my time to shine. I grabbed the guitar, coming in at the perfect point. Me and James were instantly in tune with each other, we always had been. When it was finished I did a mock bow, they were all staring. Except James who pulled me into a hug.

“You have got even better.” He complimented.

“It wasn’t easy bro, but I managed.” I shrugged.

“That was awesome.” Adam blurted, we all turned to look at him. He was actually smiling, a proper smile. Achievement. “I can’t believe James has been hiding you from the world.”

“You are a lot like Adam.” PJ stated, I felt like he was looking into my soul.

“Sing something else!” Adam asked excitedly, thankfully taking PJ’s attention.

“Like what? The only songs I can think of are hardly appropriate given the situation.” I chuckled.

“Why what’s on your mind?” Jesse asked.

“Urm, Wake Up Call.” I told them all awkwardly. Adam’s smile faltered for only a second.

“Just sing it. I’d love to hear you do it.” He assured us, with a shrug the boys began playing and I sang and Adam even joined in a little. “Thanks.”

“I’m in your house, playing your guitar, singing your songs. I should be saying thanks.” I pointed out.

“Look, this is lovely and all. But, urm, we kinda need to talk to you about something.” James announced, I could tell by the look on his face I was not going to be happy about this.
