Its Humble Servant

06:32, 28 November 2023

Wyatt POV

'Oh my tree' 'Oh my lovely tree, how wonderful it is to see you in person. Your most humble follower wishes to help you. I will rid you of that leech that resides in your branches. Please just let me climb up.'After seemingly waiting for a response for about twenty seconds, even though he only said it in his head, Wyatt comes to a conclusion.'Aha, I know, the tree must want me to figure out what it wants on my own, it's clearly giving me the great honor of... becoming its priest!'While Wyatt was partially protected by the effects of the Puppeteer's Shroud, along with the amplified shadow that was augmenting the armor, his almost complete submission allowed the Soul Devouring Tree to quickly gut his critical thinking abilities. Wyatt only had the mental acuity of a child in his current state, but it was alright, he just needed to know the bare minimum to eventually escape, not as though he was considering escape at the moment.'First things first, I need to climb up there and then break the egg.''[Hey Sunny, I need the body!!]''(Is that you? Stop just popping up like that.)''[Oh, you're speaking quite flippantly with me, don't you know my title, high priest of the blessed tree.]''(Huh, a title? Is that your true name or something?)' '[Of course not, although I wish it were. My true name is Fate Breaker.]'This new information gives Sunny pause.'(Wait wait wait, you're telling me you had a true name this whole time? Do you not know what that means, they're considered very important due to how rare it is to have one.)''[Supposedly it's rare, although based on what I've seen it's pretty common, three out of four people have one, she's Changing Star, I'm Fate Breaker, and you're Lost From Light. Although they do have some actual uses I guess.]''(First of all, don't so much as say that name, even telepathically. Second, I don't think that's how the percentages work. And third, what do you mean 'actual' uses, how are true names useful?)''[Huh, you said true names are useful? That's interesting, I'll think about it.]''(Yes, I will too. Hmm, lost from light, lost from light, lost from light, maybe there's a use hidden somewhere.)''[I can still hear you. And what about the body?]''(You can use it, I still need to think.)''[I also need the blade you got from the demon.]''(How did you know I got a blade?)''[Because I do obviously.]''(Right... just take what you need.)' Sunny says while rubbing his temples.Sunny then summons the shard and relinquishes control to Wyatt, much to Wyatt's pleasure.Wyatt then spends a few minutes trying to find a path up the tree before finding several clusters of branches in a small area. Due to how inconspicuous the apparent nest is, he figures it's no wonder that Sunny didn't find it until after a month.Wyatt then starts climbing up the tree with no fear whatsoever even as he reaches a height of over one hundred meters.A fervent glee can be seen in his gaze the higher he goes, although this glee isn't from getting closer to obtaining Weavers Lineage, but rather from the feeling that he will serve his tree well by getting rid of the threat that a Great Devil inherently poses.Reaching the branch cluster that holds the nest of the Vile Thieving Bird, Wyatt gets closer and closer to find out whether or not getting too close will cause his soul to be ripped out by the egg.He starts to touch it when he finds there to be no negative effects to standing next to the egg, and while he can feel a slight tug, beckoning him closer, he feels neither weaker nor less whole than he was moments prior. This confirms his previous theory that the egg requires either some kind of soul essence, or at least a soul more nourishing than his poor starved soul could offer.Pulling out his weapon, he attempts to stab the egg only for the blade to bounce off of it after leaving a barely visible dent.'How can I give my blade the necessary strength to cut through such a tough shell... I know!! By hitting it even harder, over and over again.'Wyatt prepares to strike again and this time hits it with everything he has, and then does it again, and again, and again. He does it dozens, and then hundreds of times until finally, a thin crack can be seen extending through the wall of the shell. With one last well placed strike, the crack becomes a gaping hole and a voice resounds inside his head, sounding almost as gleeful as he is.[You have slain a Great Devil, Vile Thieving Bird's Spawn.][You have received a Memory: Drop of Ichor.]'That's nice. Now the tree can rest easy.'Seconds later a startled Sunny comes to talk to Wyatt.'(Hey! What the hell did you just kill?! I got 64 shadow fragments instantly!)''[A Great Devil, isn't it obvious? It's not like I can kill a Cursed Monster or an Unholy Beast.]''(Even a Great Devil should be impossible to kill, especially for you, you haven't absorbed a single soul shard.)''[I thought I told you there was a reason for that, and it was to kill this thing. Damned bird eats only the tastiest souls, which means mine wasn't on the menu.]''(I won't even ask how you knew that, but besides the supreme soul shards, did you get anything.)''[Now that you mention it I did get a consumable memory. I think it can upgrade some attributes.]''(Stop, your explanation is activating your flaw. I trust you enough, so as long as you think it'll help, you can do what you need.)'After Sunny said that, a weight that was on Wyatt's shoulder suddenly disappeared, not as though Wyatt remembered why he would be so guilt ridden in the first place.'[Alright! I'll eat it then.]'Wyatt then looks at his list of Memories.

Memory: [Drop of Ichor].

'Yay, my first Memory, I hope it's tasty.'

Memory Rank: unknownMemory Type: unknownMemory Description: [The loathsome Thieving Bird was hated both by the gods and -unknown-. However, it only cared about shiny things. Enamored by Weaver's beautiful eyes, it stole one of them on a dark, starless night. Impatient, the vile creature looked at its bounty while still in flight. However, when it saw the reflection of -unknown- forever frozen in the depths of Weaver's pupil, it went mad and screamed, dropping the eye on the mortal realm below. All that was left in its greedy beak was one drop of pure, golden ichor.]

'C'mon, let me skip the dialogue, I want to eat it.'The Spell, sounding almost exasperated, decides to ask Wyatt:

[You have acquired a drop of ichor. Do you wish to consume it?]

'Of course I do, the hell kind of question is that.' Wyatt nods.

[Good.]

'Now, I might not be the most in touch with my emotions, but I swear I could hear a hint of shadenfreude.'The golden drop of liquids quickly separates into two drops and then enters through each pupil. For a brief moment Wyatt wonders when the effects will occur and then remembers something terrible.'Crap'The next second he's on the floor of the nest yelling in pain as the Memory starts rearranging his whole body. Focusing on his eyes, it feels as though they are getting pulled, stretched, twisted and torn multiple times a second, with his body barely feeling any better until mercifully, the torment ends and he hears the once again jovial voice of The Spell in his ears.[You have acquired two new Attributes.][One of your Attributes is ready to evolve.]'Perfect, I should look at it. Wait, I should enter my soul sea, I've never done that.'Entering his Soul Sea, Wyatt found he actually had a body, his own body, when wandering around. Before reincarnating, he was rather tall for his age, a full six foot at only sixteen, and right now, he certainly felt much taller that usual. Although at this point his old body was starting to feel foreign to him, causing him to stumble about like he did during his first time as Sunny. After adjusting to his old center of gravity, he took a look around. It was at this point he realizes that he is walking on what seems to be dry stone, his Soul Sea completely failing to live up to its epithet.'I don't blame that bird. I wouldn't eat this either. Speaking of, where is that ostrich egg lookin' avian?'Looking around, Wyatt doesn't take long to find the egg. With its onyx shell completely contrasting the white stony landscape of the Soul "Sea".Walking up to the shell, Wyatt is sure to state the terms and conditions of their rental agreement in no uncertain terms."Your Soul Shards should cover your rent for the foreseeable future but if I find any portions of my soul going missing, then I'll evict you immediately... somehow."Confident that the bird spawn got his message, Wyatt checks his runes to find what new Attributes he may have gotten.

[Mark of Fate] Attribute Description: "You have a mild affinity to fate."

'What a simple description, I like simple.'

[Mark of Fate] is ready to evolve. Proceed?

"Duh, of course."Shortly after his acceptance, the runes changed to reflect their newest evolved version.

Attribute: [Spark of Fate]

[Spark of Fate] Attribute Description: "A treacherous usurpation of power from a treacherous being. How wonderful. The ever constricting chains of fate surrounding you have slowed down."

For a moment Wyatt has an expression of worry on his face, the chains of fate don't sound like a good thing no matter how he looks at it, but in the next moment all his worries vanish, as though they were never there in the first place.'Yay, new stuff! It's like opening presents.'Deciding to check out the two new Attributes, he summons their runes.

Attribute: [Mark of Divinity].

[Mark of Divinity] Attribute Description: "You bear a faint scent of divinity, as though briefly touched by it once."

'Hehehe, that's what I like to see. Alright what can it do-wahh.'Looking down at his armor, Wyatt notices that he can see many threads running along the cloth of his armor, although instead of cloth, the threads bear a strong resemblance to something he knows he's seen before. As hard as it is for him to remember, this is similar to what he saw as he was falling through what he thought to be the tapestry of fate, simply on a much smaller scale.'So that's what it was.' Wyatt says full of awe.Following this revelation, Wyatt checks out his last new Attribute.

[Blood Weave] Attribute Description: "Failed to attribute to individual, Fate Breaker.Primary Cause: Lack of Blood.Searching for bonded individual, Lost From Light.Failed to attribute to individual, Lost From Light.Primary Cause: Unearned Achievement.Secondary Cause: Different Lineage Currently Held.Searching for compromise.Secondary Cause of individual Lost From Light deemed insignificant.Compromise found."

'What the hell is going on?' A pit starts to form in Wyatt's stomach as he fears he may not get his desired lineage after all. Then The Spell arrives with its new compromise.

[Blood Weave] can be de-localized.Proceed?

'De-localization... fortune favors the bold!Alright.'Wyatt gives a thumbs up, and the runes changed again.

[Blood Weave (Stabilized)] Attribute Description: "You along with the treacherous Lost From Light have inherited a part of Weaver's forbidden lineage. Your blood has been altered and imbued with extreme tenacity. You regain blood quicker than others. Your blood contains more divinity than expected. Your blood contains some properties of soul essence."

"Oh... my... fucking... god, this is far better than it was in the book."

[Mark of Divinity] is ready to evolve. Proceed?

'WAIT WHAT!!!!!' 'AGAIN!!!' 'Is this because there was more divinity than expected.'"Yes yes yes, absolutely please proceed!"

Attribute: [Spark of Divinity].[Spark of Divinity] Attribute Description: "Every fire starts from a spark, it seems yours will grow at an unprecedented rate. Radiant sparks within your new blood shine with divine light."

'Any other presents, no, alright thank you soooooo much spell I love you!'Preparing to leave after finding out what upgrades he got, he looks at the sky one last time and sees the bright sun that is his soul core illuminating the desolate landscape.

Back to reality only a second has passed and Sunny is quick to ask about all the new benefits that he also obtained.Wyatt is proud of himself as he brags about all the new powers gained by killing the Birds Spawn. Sunny then asks if Wyatt can now absorb soul shards, which Wyatt confirms. Sunny then motions him to absorb the multiple supreme soul shards that have been left behind. Wyatt begins to absorb the first one and he notices that he feels even stronger that he did previously. He does this for the second and third soul shard, with him starting to few more lucid, until finally, the fourth and last shard is in his hand.'Wait, can't I do something with these?'Sunny notices his hesitation.'(Is something wrong?)''[I feel like... I want to keep it. Maybe it's just so pretty that I don't want to let it go.]''(Okay, then keep it. If you think you should then you probably should.)''[Alright.]''(So.. you mentioned something about seeds earlier, didn't you? What's so great about these seeds?)''[Such stupid questions.]' Wyatt gasps out.'[But out of kindness I'll gladly answer them. These seeds probably, no, definitely exist in the center of the fruits that are grown here. These seeds can also act as soul shards and shadow fragments. I have decided not to eat any of these fruits out of loyalty for my tree, but others might find them tasty.]''(Shadow fragments?)''[Avoid temptation Sunny, don't disappoint the tree.]''(I'm sure the tree is proud to have someone like you, but you must be tired after all that pain, so allow me to carry on with what should be done while you rest. Make sure to not get distracted by anything either so you can rest better and give it your all later.)''Wow, Sunny, I'm only it's humble servant, but to see you accept it so quickly, it's not just the tree that's proud of you, I'm proud of you.''[Alright.]'
