Chapter 8 - Convenience

06:25, 17 May 2022

The next morning you pushed the news about Tony aside and took a cab ride over to FEAST. When you walked in you were instantly greeted by Todd who was eating a hot breakfast. After a quick chat you made your way into the kitchen to see May. "Y/N! I am so glad to see you !" She was running all over the kitchen. "I cannot tell you how many times I hear people say they are going to come back and never show."

"When we get to know each other a little more you will find out I am brutally honest." You walked over to the stove where a pancake was cooking and flipped it.

"Good, that's what we need around here." She walked towards you and you handed her the spatula. "Did you hear about the robbery?" you asked, "Did Peter run into the scene? I saw that he was heading in the direction of it last night."

"Luckily, no. He said that he just missed it." She checked the underside of the pancake. "The crime in this city is becoming overwhelming. I am happy they were able to catch the culprits."

"I agree!,"  You looked around the kitchen and there were multiple boxes laying around, "So May where can I get started for the day?" She looked up at you.

"Could you actually run an errand for me? The supplier for our sleeping bags and tents just notified me that they have more stock available for pickup. Could you take a taxi to the S.H.I.E.L.D building? It's near Time Square and of course I can pay you for the fare."

"No worries about the fare, I would be happy to do it!"

"I am lucky to have you here." She pulled out her phone, "I will text you the order invoice and just let the front desk know where you are from. Everything else will already be taken care of for you."

The taxi pulled in front of a huge building and stepping out onto the sidewalk you were almost swept away by the New York bustle. Everyone had somewhere to be and nothing was going to get in the way of their destination, including another person.

You felt like you were in the video game Frogger, trying to dodge each person coming towards you but luckily your persistence prevailed and you made it through the glass door. When the door shut behind you, you can only hear the fountain in the lobby. You would never guess there was a busy street just 2 feet behind you. You walked forward to the main desk and greeted the woman behind it. She held a stern look while you were providing an order number and no matter how polite you tried to be it didn't change.

While sitting in the lounge waiting for the items to be collected you looked at your phone and the number one article was Tony Stark and his return home. You went to go click on it but hesitated, "It's not your problem, he's ok. That's all you need to know." You shut off your screen and put it back into your purse. From what you were able to see from the titles that flashed around the screen he's giving his return speech right now. You sat back in the chair with your arms crossed and tapping your fingers on your arm. You're trying your best not to watch the live stream of his speech that you know would be playing.

15 minutes has passed and the woman from the front desk approached you. "It should only be a few more minutes. They're finishing up the packing process on the final items." She still had a stern face but you gave her a nod. Once she walked away you tried to distract yourself with anything other then your phone. You kept your eyes on the fountain in the center of the lobby when a man walked around it and stared at you.

Suddenly he reached in his pocket and the next thing you saw was a bright light. When your eyes re-focused you noticed the man was holding a camera smiling at you, " Y/N Y/LN?"

"Yes, can I help you." You looked at him confused when he snapped another photo.

"We got her, she is in the S.H.I.E.L.D building!" He spoke in his microphone and suddenly you noticed at least 15 more people were attempting to get your photo through the glass doors. You stood up and went to walk to the front desk but the man blocked you. "C'mon sweet heart. Smile for the camera." The brightness again blinded your eyes and as you tried to look at the entrance you notice that the paparazzi was not streaming through the doors, calling your name.

You heard the woman at the front desk call for security but you were surrounded with no escape. The flashes of the camera lights were causing delirium and with so many people calling your name you couldn't hear any of the information they were asking for. You felt like you were drowning in the sea of people, no escape, and no answers to the why.

Suddenly someone abruptly grabbed your arm above your elbow and pulled you out of the crowd. Your footsteps tried to match theirs and you turned to see a brunette man with an ear piece, "I got her, I am heading toward the East Exit. Have the car ready for me."

"Excuse me," You jerked out of his grip. "Who are you!?" You could still hear the snapping of the cameras and what is going on!?

"I'm Brock Rumlow, I work here with S.H.I.E.L.D. I am going to get you out safely." You looked at him up and down. He was wearing all black with no indicator he worked there.  Suddenly the front desk lady met up with you both. "He's being honest, go and I will have a special shipment made to your facility for the supplies."

"Thank you." and just as the words came out of your mouth more paparazzi tried coming into the facility and more security ran to help the situation. Brock re-grabbed your arm and you followed him out of the building and into a town car. At least if you were going to be kidnapped it was by someone who was easy on the eyes.

When you sat in the passenger seat, you let out a deep breath. "Am I am a fever dream?" He looked at you, " What is happening?"

Brock smiled, "Not a fever dream Darling." He started the car and a side port lifted up. More Paparazzi was waiting, "Tony Stark returned and during this speech he only gave a few words." He started to slightly step on the gas, "Y/N Y/LN saved my life."  He glanced at you and back on the road, "So you tell me, what did you do?"
