Chapter IX- 𝐶ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑠

Eren POV

I could feel Mikasa staring at me as I looked outside the window of the bus, I looked back at her and she immediately turned away.

𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡'𝑠 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑏𝑙𝑒𝑚?- 𝐼 𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡

I looked back outside the window and could see the school getting closer and closer until the bus came to a stop. Everyone got up and grabbed their stuff and started walking to the front of the bus. One by one, we walked down the steps of the bus onto the pavement. Once everyone was out, the bus drove away, leaving a trail of smoke. I was the first to walk in the school, it was 7:55 am so classes would start at 8 am. We missed registration but the office and all the teachers knew about the field trip so they would mark us present anyways.

I walked to my locker and opened it, stuffing my back in the available space and taking out all the things I would need for Science, which was my first class. I slammed my locker shut and walked into class. I sat down at my usual seat, at the back of the room beside the window. I stared outside the window. The grey clouds blocking the sun, leaves descending from their tree branches, the grass swaying due to the cold wind, birds flapping their wings as they soared through the sky as a flock. Lost in my own thoughts I continued to stare at out the window until I was brought back to reality by a chair being pulled out near me. I looked away from the window and saw Mikasa sit down on the chair, she placed her arms on the desk and then dropped her head down on her arms. I could tell she was sleepy so I guess that's why she wasn't her usual self today.

𝑊𝑎𝑖𝑡 𝑤ℎ𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑙 𝑑𝑜 𝐼 𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑒?- 𝐼 𝑡ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡

I shook my head and faced the front of the class waiting for the lesson to start.__________________________________

The bell had rang, so I was packing up my stuff to head to lunch, and just as I was about to head out, Hangi called Mikasa and I to wait behind, so we let the rest of the class leave. Once it was only the three of us, Hangi picked up some files.

"𝐎𝐤 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐬𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞?"-Hangi asked politely

Normally I would help but I don't want to be walking side to side with Mikasa.

I hesitantly nodded and took a handful of files and Mikasa took the other.

"𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐤 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐮𝐲𝐬."-Hangi said and she left the room.

Mikasa left the room before me and I came along. We we're walking in complete silence and then Mikasa sneezed. Her sneeze was the cutest thing ever.

"𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮."-I said nonchalantly

She didn't say thank you but just nodded her head. We then arrived to the storage room, I opened it and walked in, I walked a few steps before remembering that the door needs to be kept open.

"𝐀𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐭-"-I was too late because the door had already closed shut. Mikasa was in a state of turmoil as she didn't know what was wrong.

"𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭?"-She asked me

I facepalmed.

"𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞, 𝐬𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞'𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞."-I explained as I set the files in a box.

"𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐤?!"-She raised her voice a little

She dropped the files and tried opening the door but it was no use, she stopped trying and faced me again.

"𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭, 𝐈'𝐦 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐜𝐤 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐣𝐞𝐫𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥."-She muttered as she picked up the files she had dropped

I cocked my eyebrow as I was a bit hurt.

"𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐣𝐞𝐫𝐤?"-I asked coldly

She gave me the 'seriously?' look and shook her head. I rolled my eyes and sat down on a stool.

"𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐣𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐨𝐨𝐫."-I said

"𝐈 𝐝𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐰𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭."-She whined

I felt some pain on my forearm and looked down at my cuts. I still haden't taken off the bandages that Mikasa had put. I guess she was looking at me because she asked a question.

"𝐀𝐫𝐞... 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠?"-She asked me with a bit of hesitation in her tone

I just ignored her question and rolled down my sleeve and got up from the stool I was sitting on and walked passed her.

"𝐈'𝐦 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐬𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞, 𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭?"-She suggested

I scoffed.

"𝐍𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬."-I snapped back as I leaned against the wall.

Her eyes widened.

"𝐃𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮?"-She asked

"𝐍𝐨 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, 𝐦𝐲 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐰𝐞'𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐯𝐞."-I nonchalantly said

𝑊𝑎𝑖𝑡 𝑤ℎ𝑦 𝑑𝑖𝑑 𝐼 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑡𝑒𝑙𝑙 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡?

𝐼 𝑐𝑎𝑛'𝑡 𝑏𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑢𝑝 𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑔𝑖𝑟𝑙 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝐼?

𝑊𝑒'𝑟𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑓𝑟𝑗𝑒𝑛𝑑𝑠, 𝑠ℎ𝑒'𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑛𝑜𝑦𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑠 𝑓𝑢-

My thoughts we're interrupted by a heavy sigh

"𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧."-She chuckled at the end of her sentence

𝑊𝑎𝑖𝑡 𝑠ℎ𝑒 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠𝑛'𝑡 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑒𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟?

"𝐘𝐞𝐚 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐬𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤, 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦, 𝐈𝐭𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐥 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐞."-I harshly said

"𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐨 𝐚𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧, 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚 𝐣𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐬𝐬, 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐈'𝐦 𝐭𝐫𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮?"-She asked

𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑔𝑖𝑟𝑙...

"𝐃𝐢𝐝𝐧'𝐭 𝐈 𝐚𝐥𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐧?"-I asked as I looked down on her.

"𝐘𝐞𝐚 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐈 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐨𝐟𝐟."-She exclaimed.

She walked passed me and tripped on something and was about to fall face first but then I grabbed her just in time before she would hit the ground. I grabbed her hand and pulled her close that her head was on my chest, my hand wrapped around her head and I fell on my back instead. It was a loud thud, loud for anyone walking by to hear. Mikasa head was still on my chest and she wasn't moving.

"𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐨𝐤𝐚𝐲?"-I asked

She lifted her head from my chest and now our faces we're mere inches from eachother and that's when we heard someone open the door. It was the janitor.

"𝐎𝐡 𝐦𝐲 𝐆- 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐦, 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐛 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐨𝐮𝐭."-The janitor said with a glum face.

Mikasa quickly got off me and straightened her skirt.

"𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐧-𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝, 𝐈 𝐟-𝐟𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐚-"-Mikasa tried explaining but was doing a horrible job at it and was cut off by the janitor.

"𝐘𝐞𝐚 𝐲𝐞𝐚 𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞."-The janitor looked so done with the world that he couldn't care about anything anymore. I mean same I guess.

"𝐘-𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐢𝐫!"-Mikasa said as she ran out and gave me a glare before walking away.

𝑁𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑘 𝑦𝑜𝑢? 𝑊𝑜𝑤_____________________________

I entered the house Zeke and I were sharing. After my parents' death, I was sent to live with my step mom Dina,  her boyfriend Grice and my half brother Zeke. A few years living with them and Dina was in a terrible car accident and Grice bought us this house and payed the bills until Zeke was finally financially stable enough to pay the bills himself.

I walked in and saw Zeke watching American football, rejoicing everytime his favourite team scored or something. I rolled my eyes and went to the kitchen, I grabbed an apple and went upstairs to my room. I watched some Naruto Shippuden while eating my apple. After I was done, I got up and went to the bathroom to remove the bandages, as I looked at the cuts, all the bad memories came running back. I couldn't take it anymore so then I grabbed the razor that I left the other day on my counter. Just as I was about to make a cut on my right forearm, a voice started talking in my head.

𝑌𝑜𝑢'𝑟𝑒 ℎ𝑢𝑟𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑓 𝑖𝑑𝑖𝑜𝑡, 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑜 𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑡𝑜 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑝 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑦𝑜𝑢'𝑟𝑒 𝑔𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ.

I put the razor down and rolled down my sleeve.
