Prologue

From 1998 to 2001, a series of experiments was carried out on the effects of altering human DNA to give desired abilities. The program was run by a government-led organisation, where four women were artificially inseminated with altered DNA in hopes of making superhumans.

Four babies were born, two girls and two boys, but the results weren't as good as they hoped. All four children were born with issues; deformity, blindness, weakened physical performance, and limited mobility.

They were named Jakob, Benjamin, Pepper, and Deanne.

All four were raised under the idea that they had special abilities, 'superpowers' that needed to be triggered, and were subject to horrific tests from only five years old. As they got older, and the tests continued to produce negative results, it was getting clearer that the program was a failure, and the scientists had made a mistake in their planning.

They didn't know what to do, the military was expecting four supersoldiers to help them defend Earth from a race of hunting aliens that regularly came to the planet to kill.

How could these four failed experiments be supersoldiers without their powers?
