Where Her Loyalties Lie

09:47, 30 November 2024

Loyalty is a concept not foreign to Minx. Her whole life, she has stuck by one girl's side. Jinx was her life, her home. Wherever one went, the other followed. They were stuck like glue pasted on their backs, watching out for the other.

But glue can be melted, and peeled off. Minx felt the skin tear off her back the more they unstuck her, forcing her farther and farther away. Like dunking her worn skin in tubs of acetone, it stung, physically, to be alone.

Minx sat in a dark musky cell, she couldn't see anything because of the bag over her head, and by the chains on her wrist, her abductor was not her friend.

"I need you not to freak out." She heard a voice say from beyond her block cell door.

Another more feminine voice replied, "Relax, Ekko I'm not gonna freak–"

Light invaded Minx's closed eyes, fresh air intruding her worn lungs.

"Ekko, what the fu—" Vi was cut off again by the boy tearing the bag off Minx's head. Her pink hair glistened in the small stream of sunlight through the crack in the door. Her disheveled head lifted from her chest, and bright green eyes gleamed in the dark.

She spoke just like she always did, confidently, "Finally came to visit an old friend... Ekko?" A crack hit her voice at the end.

Vi and Ekko stepped further into the cell of one of their dearest old friend. Perching along the hilt of the door, they made no effort to move further. Vi crossed her arms, staring sadly at the girl she so desperately wanted to call her sister.

"All bark no bite, huh? If you wanted to stare you could've just asked." Minx giggled, a sly grin sliding up the side of her face. She could give them a show.

She watched joyfully as Vi's eyes filled with surprise, "What did he do to you?"

Minx looked towards the floor curling into herself slightly, "Which man?"

Uncomfortable silence invaded the cell, capturing the three inhabitants by the throat, and causing them to sputter for words.

Ekko stomped forward, leaning off the wall and bending down to Minx's level, "Look, I'll cut you a deal."

Minx laughed and licked her lips a teasing smile on her face, "Tell me more, pretty boy."

Ekko scoffed rolling his eyes and leaned backwards away from her. Minx had a promiscuously dust-covered dirty face or maybe it was just the way she wore it. "Not your kinda deal," he finalized.

The girl pouted her puffy lips in the shape of faux disappointment. "Oh, you're no fun," she whined.

Vi grunted, pushing herself off the wall, she couldn't watch this. Ekko snapped a hand up to motion the girl not to leave, that not all hope was lost.

Vi fell back into her place, watching the scene unfold before her.

"Become a firelight," Ekko proposed putting one finger up to interrupt her gasp, "I'm giving you one shot to rewrite the one version of you I have."

Minx smiled up at the boy, and a hopeful light gleamed in his eyes. This could be his chance, to get one of his best friends back, to reignite that little girl in her. The promising future they could create was so close that Ekko could almost taste it, and he was sure she could too.

"No one in the Firelights, has been, or ever will be your friend."

Minx slipped her cuffs, goo seeping out of her bracelets and melting her metal chains. Taking their surprise to her advantage Minx threw a quick left hook at Ekko the black ring on her finger attaching to his face and erupting in a golden flame burning his dark cheek.

Ekko fell to the floor cupping his face with his gloved hands. He hyperventilated breathing in the fumes of his burning skin.

Turning to Vi, who was blocking the exit to her cell, she smirked at the look on her face. Vi stood there, still as stone, eyes wide switching between watching Ekko's burning face and his perpetrator.

Minx took her hesitation as an opening. Kicking the heel of her boot twice, pink smoke invaded the room flooding from minuscule holes in her boots.

Minx sped towards Vi, kneeing her in the chest, successfully knocking the air out of her. Vi's mouth opened in a wheeze. Minx slipped, like the lynx she is, out of the cell door, slamming it shut behind her.

"There is no good version of me to write, Ekko," Minx said, staring solemnly into his brown eyes peeking out the bars of the cell.

Ekko was speechless watching his last chance at her redemption fade away.

"I hope you realize where my loyalties lie." She spat.

A/N: Super short chapter, but ayyy it's act three what can I say? This is NOT Minx's redemption arc lmao, she's in her villain era to Ekko and Vi. Guys imagine Jinx rn, she's probably losing it without her bae :(

Can we talk about how badass Minx is though? Gotta love her.
