Lucifer kicked Dean Decker's door, announcing his arrival. Chloe was reading Disney's Beauty and the Beast to Trixie, who was sitting on her lap.
"Morning Lucifer!" The child cheerily greeted the devil's spawn as she runs to his side, hugging his long legs.
"Chloe! Get this... this midget you call your child off my legs!" he half-shouted, half-screamed.
"Trixie darling, will it bother you if you continue reading your story in the library?"
"But I wanna play with Lucifer!" she whine.
Dean Decker glared at her daughter, Trixie who knew not to talk back at her mom if she's annoyed, made the little girl picked her book and stormed out of the room.
"You need to discipline that rascal," Lucifer said, fixing his suit.
"And you decided to show up and be a sarcastic asshole first thing in the morning." Dean Decker retorted. Sitting on her swivel chair she continued, "What do you want Luce?"
Plopping himself to a chair across her table he answered, "Let me join that outreach program of yours."
Chloe raised a quizzical brow so he continued, "The one where Jasmine Mathhews in?"
"You know her?"
"Don't you?" he asked exasperated. "So am I in or not?"
"Lucifer that program you're talking about will be held outside of London, the countryside?"
"So?"
"So it means no one will know how famous you are, no excellent phone reception, no internet and you'll interact with the children."
Children.
Lucifer is allergic to children and Chloe perfectly knew that but instead he replied her with "Is that a yes or no?"
Chole heaves a heavy sigh, "Fill up this form and give it to me as soon as you finish it. I'll endorse your participation with Professor Dippet since he is the program coordinator this year."
"Got it." He snatched the paper and went straight to the door.
She called out to him. "No funny business." She said too seriously that Lucifer was tempted to laugh his ass out rather, he winked at her mischievously.
Jasmine's still feeling elated even if its been a week since Alan dropped her in the Orphanage but another reason of her happiness was the three-day outreach program which will be held in the countryside plus you get to sight-see and enjoy nature's healing and fresh air. Professor Dippet ushered her unto his office chambers taking one swift glance at Alan, the latter nods, acknowledging her presence. She smiled in return.
Once inside, six other student volunteers were huddled together in the office couch. They made the effort to introduce each other. As soon as she finished her introduction, a voice came in.
"What did I miss?"
Jasmine rested against the cemented wall, facing the newcomer which turns out to be the devil-in-name and her least favorite person to ever walked on earth. Lucifer Morningstar.
"Mr. Morningstar! Come, come." Professor Dippet shook hands with Lucifer, Jasmine made a mental note to offer her Professor some sanitizing gel to avoid getting infected by the man she loathes to the bones. She will not allow it.
"Ladies and gentleman, this is Mr. Lucifer Morningstar. I gather you all knew him." The cheerful professor guided the latter at the center of the room and continued," He gladly volunteered to join us this year in our noblest mission, please give him our warmest welcome." Much to our heroine's misery and the delight of the other girls who took their chances to at least kissed Lucifer by the cheek while the boys shook hands with the famous hotelier/businessman. Jasmine being cornered in the open gave him a tight smile.
Professor Dippet gave Lucifer a shower of praises and Jasmine knew that the latter's head couldn't get any bigger. As soon as they're all set, they made their way to the university bus and Jassy was glad he hadn't made any action to get closer.
Public transportation of any kind was not Lucifer's thing [being the owner of a private chopper and plane] but because he promised Chloe he will be at his best behavior, he didn't voice out his profuse diminution on riding such thing. He could sense Jasmine's uneasiness the moment he stepped into the professor's private office. He will try being patient. Isn't there a motto regarding patience? Besides, there is always a first time for everything. Right?
Jasmine sat on the right side of the bus near the window and prayed that Lucifer won't go near her or even attempt to talk to her. She was thankful when the man in question sat beside Abraham instead.
Pfft.
Lucifer and Abraham. Together. In a bus. The saints must be laughing-out-loud, she thought still grinning ear-to-ear.
Alan texted her the moment the engine started.
A: Have a safe trip. Txt me once u arrived in ur destination.
J: Thank you Alan. I will.
A: Hope u enjoy d program. You're gud with children, they'll fall in love with u instantly.
Jasmine smiled at how Alan's praises can make her heart skip a beat and how amusingly funny it is at how her idol and secret love interest is texting her right now. Ooh how the other rickmaniacs envy her at this moment.
J: xD
Alan instead replied with a minion sticker, a question mark symbol adorning its head. She giggled. Who could have thought Alan knew how to use the stickers emoji?
J: It's a smiley, in the shortest way possible.
Alan resorted on texting with the question mark symbol yet again.
J: It's okay. No need to think about it so seriously.
A: You can tell?
J: Aren't you busy?
She replied changing the subject.
A: I wanted 2 talk to u, is that enough reason?
Jasmine was mentally screaming. Biting her lower lip to avoid her inner fangirling she texted back with a shaky hands.
J: I'll miss you.
Jasmine wasn't supposed to sent it and was reeling her mind why she even typed those words, when her finger touch the 'sent' button accidentally.
Alan smiled when her reply appeared. He was never into texting but if he called her she might be in trouble and he doesn't want to cause any trouble for her. He had his left hand on his chin contemplating what would his reply be while the other was about to text her when another text popped in.
J: Still there?
He chuckled. Adorably impatient young woman.
A: Keep safe Jassy.
Jasmine berated herself the moment her text of 'I'll miss you' was delivered to Alan's cell and hasn't blink ever since. Maybe that creep him out. Gosh, what will she do if he started avoiding her?
Seconds later Alan's 'Keep safe' text arrives. No I'll miss you too? She shook her head there goes her hopeful heart. I mean let's face it who is Jasmine Matthews to Alan Rickman's life? That's easy. She's just an employee. A charity case among others. Sadly, she knew that from the very beginning, his world and hers are miles apart and the ground's too hard for a fall. She was about to hide her phone when it vibrated unexpectedly.
A: See you in 3 days. Missing you already.
Jasmine furiously blush, her face was so hot she could burn herself. Phones are really dangerous. Really really dangerous.
The first day of the program is always the hardest and Jasmine made sure to avoid Lucifer Morningstar at all cost. If she heard his step in the hallway, she will enter the nearest room available for hiding. They spent the day as productive as possible. Helping this year's chosen community by providing them additional livelihood such as backyard farming, irrigation, poultry business and such, books for the children, free medical consultation from the most excellent doctors of KCL and free medicines to boot. Recreational activities for the children was Jasmine's favorite.
The families in the community they visited were poor, their livelihood solely depends on farming and fortuitous event such as drought [sustainable water irrigation isn't available], typhoon and severe infestation occurs. The children were mostly malnourished and Jasmine knew how being poor is. No adequate food, shelter, education and more. She knew them better and was lucky that the orphanage took her that she didn't end up in the streets. But, these children has parents, they have a family. She enviously stare at a couple whose expecting their first born child, the soon-to-be father rested his ear on his wife's tummy gently stroking the baby bump while his wife lovingly smiled at her husband. Jasmine wondered if her parents were like those couple before her birth. Did they even want her? She smiled bitterly, maybe they don't want her or maybe they were too young to have her.
Jasmine was left in the orphanage's doorsteps. She vividly remembers her early memory as a child when a fellow orphan was adopted. Jasmine always stares at the huge gate hoping her parents will come and get her too, she wanted to believe that it's not her parents fault that they have to give her away, she wanted to believe that they just wanted to give her the best chance even if they weren't going be part of it because despite all of it, Jasmine dearly love her parents.
She keeps in touch with the Mother Superior in case her parents came looking for her. Because maybe just maybe they'll come walking in the orphanage's gate someday. Jasmine hated the word someday.
Jasmine took refuge on working her body to the point of exhaustion to keep her mind off of sad things and what ifs, because her nasty habit of getting envious is re-surging, she don't want to be that kind of person. She began counting her blessings. Being alive, being able to study in the university, she had a decent job and most of all, meeting Alan Rickman, Julia, Emma Thompson, Taylor and Lindt were the greatest of them all.
She began missing them, a lone tear escape from her eye. She wanted to go home.
