Chapter 1- Welcome to Despair
19:27, 27 July 2020I felt my eyes turn heavy as I felt the weight of my arms touch something solid... No, this wasn't right... How was it I was surrounded by darkness suddenly when I was out in broad daylight looking up at the school of my dreams? Did I pass out? Is that why my eyes felt heavy and all I saw was darkness in front of my eyelids?
I tried to move, even the faintest movement of my limbs could help me realize that I was still alive and not dead. I then heard a muffled sound scrape something and it sounded like, flooring.
That had to be my foot. But I couldn't feel it. How could I move my body when I couldn't feel it the slightest. I then felt my senses come back to me. It felt like my bones were growing back in, as if they weren't there before... That dry, numb feeling left my body, and I was finally able to open my eyes...
I felt light blind my eyes as I tried to get used to the sudden light enter my eyelids. How long was I out? It couldn't be that long...
As I looked around, I took in my surroundings. I was... In a classroom?! I looked around confused as the faint light seemed to be hanging on the roof as a black chalkboard was hung on the other side of the room. I furrowed a brow as I felt my back hit against a wooden chair. I was sitting in a desk, inside a classroom... But how was that possible?
I was just outside Hope's Peak Academy ready to attend the academy full of hope and guaranteed for success. How was it I ended up in a classroom? Could this possibly be a classroom inside Hope's Peak Academy?
But how was that? I didn't even enter the building yet? I tried to remember something as I struggled to stand up straight. I leaned my hand on the wooden desk I sat in for support as my body seemed to become a more solid feeling.
I closed my eyes... Try to remember...
I was Haiyū Henka... The Ultimate Actor. At least I could remember who I was while I was inside this strange classroom... But when I tried to remember how I got here, my mind seem to draw to a blank.
I moaned slightly as I felt my white hair brush against my face, some would describe it to be blonde, but it was almost pure white, I rather go with that description. I quickly tucked the long strand of hair to the rest of my long braid. At least my appearance didn't change... My clothes were still the same.
Haiyū's clothes because I'm lazy with descriptions
The thought of how I got here still crossed my mind as I gazed around one more time. It was completely silent. Except for my shuffling feet as I walked around the classroom, examining it. I then walked towards the wall and looked up in shock. Iron plates were covering up the windows... With giant metal screws keeping it secured.
This gave off the vibe of a horror movie I played in... When I played the protagonist of a great detective mystery... But now wasn't the time to talk about my earlier movie acts... As expected of the Ultimate Actor though.
But why were there metal plates covering up the windows? That wasn't right... If this was a classroom inside Hope's Peak... Then why were there iron plates covering up the windows? Was this their idea of some kind of prank? It wasn't funny if that was the case.
I moved my hand to one giant metal screw bolting the window shut and tugged on it. No use... It wouldn't budge...
I gave up for now with trying to remove those awfully large iron screws as I then looked over at a desk near the back of the room. Something was laying on top of it.
I looked confused as I moved over to the desk and picked up what laid against the wooden surface. Perhaps this would give me a clue of where I was.
But I looked even more confused as I gaze at what seemed to be a poorly drawn pamphlet. It looked like a kindergartner drew it as I opened it up to gaze inside. Sketches and scribbles of crayons were on these pages as words were written in crayon at the bottom of the page: Meet in the gym for the opening ceremony at 8:00
That was weird... So, this was Hope's Peak. Then why the iron plates? And why did they allow a kindergartner make the pamphlets? I looked up at a clock hanging over the chalkboard and saw the time read 7:50, that was a relief, at least I had ten minutes to spare... Endless questions rang in my ear as I stored this poorly drawn pamphlet into my small bag and headed for the door on the other side of the room.
This seemed suspicious as I gazed out into the vast hallway. It's pattern and design was nothing like any normal high school I have ever seen before... But, this wasn't a normal high school... This was an high school for elite students like myself. I was chosen to come here for my acting talents, that's how I was given the title as Ultimate Actor. Even though I did research on the high school and the students that would be in my class, I never though the design of the high school was so... unique...
The hallways had a pink over hanging light that seemed to reflect off the checkered wall and flooring. Both also pink. Why would a high school have a design like this? It made no sense... Or, was I even in Hope's Peak Academy?
I shook the thought out of my mind as I moved through the hallway while looking at everything around me confused. Was I really in Hope's Peak Academy? I moved through the halls looking for a door that showed me it was the gym.
I soon turned a corner and saw a door labeled Gym above it. Finally, I found it. And when I gazed up at a clock hanging on the wall, five minutes to spare. At least I wasn't necessarily late. I was rarely late to things, so it seemed to be rather obvious how I arrived early.
I turned the doorknob to the gym and carefully opened the doors. I felt a blinding white light shine past my eyes as my eyelids tried readjusting to the sudden light room.
I stepped inside to find myself facing fourteen other students.... Could these be the other Ultimates? The ones I studied on the internet for my class.
They all seemed to notice my sudden entrance as they looked at me in mix looks of surprise, shock, nervousness. Was I the last one to show up? Is that why they all seemed nervous or shocked?
But when I gazed at them all, I could tell already why they were the Ultimates along with me. They definitely looked like the students you would see succeeding. I hoped I could fit in as one of them.
"It seems you arrived right on time! The ceremony starts at eight o'clock!" I heard a sudden voice shout as I jumped back slightly to see a boy step forward and look at me with a rather stern look. I tried to remember him from the information I learned online, and I recognized him immediately from the website: Kiyotaka Ishimaru, the Ultimate Moral Compass. No wonder his voice was loud and his attitude was strict...
"Did you happen to bring the other student with you?" I heard another voice say in the vast gym and I looked over to see a boy with rather crazy hair look over at me: Yasuhiro Hagakure, Ultimate Clairvoyant.
"There's still someone missing?" I asked with a furrowed brow. There were a lot of students already, I couldn't believe that there was one other person I had to remember the name of...
"We will take that as a no, then," Another calm female voice said this and I looked over to at the sound of the voice to see a girl with rather large black hair say this: Celestia Ludenberg, Ultimate Gambler. Her appearance gave that away.
"I-I came straight here from a classroom where I suddenly woke up from... After looking around a bit," I explained with a nervous look. Perhaps they were expecting for me to bring the other missing student along.
"So you woke up inside a classroom too?" I heard a bright energetic voice say this and I looked over to see a woman you could expect to be very athletic stood, and she was: Aoi Asahina, Ultimate Swimmer.
"I did. Did you guys wake up in a classroom too?" I asked with a furrowed brow.
"Seems everyone was that way," A small hoarse voice then said this and I looked to see a small girl stand with a nervous expression on her face: Chihiro Fuisaki, the Ultimate Programmer.
"Did the school do it to all of us?" I looked over to see a man with a goatee say this: Leon Kuwata, the Ultimate Baseball Star.
Perhaps it was possible. But, what reason would the school have to do that? Knock all of their students out and put them in a classroom with the windows bolted shut and allowed us to be confused. What kind of school did that?!
"Is it a school procedure?" Celestia said calmly with a small smile. I didn't understand how she could be so calm in a situation like this when we were all completely clueless about why we were here and what happened before that.
"Do high school's normally do that?" An odd sounding male voice said this and I gazed over to see a boy who was rather... round, say this: Hifumi Yamada, the Ultimate Fanfic Creator. Well... he wasn't exactly what I expected for a writer...
"What do you think? Why would a high school do something like that?" I heard a snappy female voice say this and I looked at the person who said this with a furrowed brow, her appearance gave it away immediately: Junko Enoshima, the Ultimate Fashion Icon.
"T-this isn't what normal high schools do! Let's face it, we're doomed!" A panicked female voice said this and I looked over to see a girl with two brown braids and round glasses say this as she looked really worried: Toko Fukawa, the Ultimate Writer.
"Don't jump to that shitty answer!" A booming male voice said this and I looked to see a man who almost seemed to be twice my size with some sort of haircut in the shape of a corn on the cob on his head, a rather odd design...: Mondo Owada, the Ultimate Biker Gang Leader. His appearance told me to stay out of his way...
"This is probably just how they do things around here," Yasuhiro said as he scratched the back of his head. "This school might have a sense of humor!"
I rolled my eyes at this. Sure, this school knocked me out and wake up in a classroom with the windows bounded shut just for a silly prank. That conclusion was a stupid one to think about.
"It's not a very funny joke," A innocent sounding voice said this and I looked over to see a young girl who seemed to be rather cute say this: Sayaka Maizono, the Ultimate Pop Sensation.
"This school's sense of humor isn't really that entertaining," An intimidating voice said this and I tried to hide my shock as a woman who seemed to have the body of a pro wrestler said this: Sayaka Ogami, the Ultimate Martial Artist. I should've expected her to look like that with her skills.
"It's two minutes until eight o'clock! Where's the sixteenth student?!" Taka talked this as he looked up at the clock set above the bleachers. He seemed strict about people being on time... I guess it made sense though...
"Chill, bro. I'm sure they're just lost!" Yasuhiro said this as Taka glared at him from the corner of his eye.
"The rules said eight o'clock sharp!" Taka argued and turned his back to Yasuhiro. It was going to be a bit annoying to be in the same class as the goody-two-shoes.
"I'm sure they'll come sooner or later. We just have to wait," I chuckled nervously as I heard Taka moan in complaint.
I bit back a nervous laugh as I gazed at everyone. These were the Ultimates like me? Seems they seemed to live up to their expectations as Ultimates... I wonder if I was meeting their expectations as Haiyū Henka, the Ultimate Actor.
It seems like I met everyone as they all seemed to split up in their own chat groups. Some stayed alone. Others talked in small groups. Or others spoke their minds to everyone. I was someone who stayed alone.
I didn't know who to talk to... I looked at everyone else. They seemed to be taking on this sudden passing out so easily. It still seemed suspicious to me as I watched everyone speak calmly to one another.
I met almost everyone... Almost everyone.
There was two other people who haven't spoken during the conversation, one being a rather mysterious girl who I didn't recognize at all. Her hair was a light lavender color as her clothes seemed to be rather interesting to gaze at. Gloves covered her hands as she seemed deep in thought. Perhaps I overlooked her name while on the website page. I couldn't help but wondering what her Ultimate talent was.
There was still another person besides the mysterious girl who didn't seem to talk during that whole conversation, I gazed over to see a man stand away from the group with his shoulders crossed and his demeanor serious. He wore glasses that seemed to reflect light shining on the ceiling. He clearly wasn't here to make friends...: Byakuya Togami, the Ultimate Affluent Progeny.
It made sense. A Togami. He was the heir to that huge corporation in Japan. No wonder he stood away from everybody else. He seemed to think he was too important to talk to anybody, as expected of a Togami of course.
He seemed to notice my gaze as his eyes met mine and I couldn't help but look away to look over at the others. He didn't say a word though, he clearly wasn't the talking type....
Well, I shook him out of my mind as I walked over to join the others talking. At least I could try to make friends while at this school.
