3- Will power is stronger than possession
11:39, 6 November 2016Raven awoke and lay shivering against a stone wall in a warehouse long forgotten. Markings were carved in the walls, though Raven could not see them. The warehouse was pitch-black, the moonlight having disappeared from the small window at the top of the roof hours ago... Raven tried to stand, however held back by the rough iron chains that held her by her legs and hands.
Two green eyes appeared in the overwhelming darkness. "Monster!" Raven spat as she tried to enchant the locks to break free of their hold. With no avail, Raven curled into a ball feeling weak and insecure, dirtying her cloak and face, feeling the cold stone beneath her as a torture of her abduction.
"Do not worry, my dear. Everything will be fine, I promise. My heart belongs to you, and you only". Raven shivered once again as she heard the promise by the green eyed figure. "Stay here, my dear, for I shall feed you." The green eyes uttered, slinking back into the shadows. Raven kept herself moving, the hope rekindled by the desire to see Damian again. "Damian... I miss you..." Raven fell still the instant the green eyes arrived back to feed her. "Hello again dear, Oh you must be starving! Here.." The green eyes moved forward, a face revealed.
It was Damian. His eyes were glowing, not the usual kind that humans have, the kind like a possessed person. "Damian?" Raven croaked, her throat dry from dehydration.
"Yess, Raven?" He hissed, a tongue flicking out as if he were a snake.
"Why did you chain me up? Where's the shadow that captured me?" Raven was still wriggling to escape the clutches of the iron chains.
Raven heard a faint voice that sounded like Damian coming from the green, glowing eyes monster, "Raven, I'm possessed, I'll let you free of the chains, just help me in return..."
Raven nodded, unable to suppress her tears of joy. Damian struggled using his will and broke free of the monster's grasp on his mind, quickly setting Raven free. She floated in the air, chanting a forbidden ritual, purple goo swallowing the floor, rising up Damian.
He screamed and Raven winced. She never thought the shadow's would be back for her this early in the year. A few years ago, Raven met with three dark shadows. They told her of the peace and serenity of their home in a different dimension. Raven almost agreed to go, save for Star-fire flying down to grab her for their celebration of her victory over Trigon. The shadows disappeared, along with the evil lurking within Raven. They came every year during the month of October, trying to persuade Raven to join them at their home. Each year Raven denied them, they became angrier, filled with hate and malevolence.
In any case, Damian had arrived safely at the Teen Titans tower, away from the warehouse, away from the shadow for now. Raven flopped to the ground, her breath short and sharp. Damian rushed over, picking her up.
"Damian... I...Need some r...Rest..." Raven sputtered. Damian felt her forehead; Burning hot.
"Raven, you have a fever. Let me help you." Raven nodded slightly, signaling Damian to walk into Raven's room. He lay her gently on her bed, pulling the covers up slightly on her legs. He found a wash towel and some warm water. With great ease he soaked the wash towel, wringing it out as he went, placing it carefully on Raven's head.
She let out a huge sigh, surprising Damian enough to fall flat on his back. "What are you doing on the ground Damian?" Raven rasped, slowly lifting her head up.
"I know you sigh, but damn that was huge." Damian dusted off his clothes, regaining his composure.
"Time for sleepies Raven. Nighty nights." He cooed, earning a large chuckle from Raven. Damian headed for the door, stopping just in front to think if Raven was in the right position or if she was going to fall off.
Raven stopped laughing. She felt as though her throat was swelling up. She wheezed, sending a stream of blood out of her mouth. Raven's world grew darker, her eyes shutting close. Raven fell into a coma-like sleep.
Damian was inhumanely fast in catching Raven as she fell from her bed. "Raven? Raven!" He murmured into her ear, hoping for an answer. He saw the blood on her sheets, his face grew grim and foreboding. Damian rushed out of the room, flying down the stories of rooms and unknown areas. He landed on his feet in the training area where Star-fire, Garfield, Jaime and Cyborg were looking gloomy.
"Titans!" Damian shouted, alerting them to his presence. "It's Raven. Long story short, she was hacking up blood. What do I do?" Damian carefully rolled Raven onto a long table. Star-fire immediately went scrolling through a list of books on alien medicines and human medicines from a library not so far away.
"Alright Damian, while we wait for Star fire to find the cure for this, let's train ourselves to prepare if the 'shadows' come again. Cool?" Garfield reluctantly asked. Garfield didn't like Damian much, however he was close to Raven, and if he was close to Raven, then Garfield could in return become even closer to Raven himself.
"I'm not leaving her Beast dork. Go train by yourself." Damian snarled, slowly pulling out his katana.
"Fine, fine. I'll go with Jaime and Cyborg then." Garfield growled, stalking off to train with the others.
"Raven, I'm so sorry you've fallen ill." Damian whispered into Raven's ear. He touched her cheek, her neck, her hair. Damian bent down lower to greet her calm, tranquil face. A small patch of blood was drying on the side of her mouth, Damian licked his finger, dabbing it off.
He bent lower, low enough to touch his face with hers, just as Star-fire arrived with a large alien medicine book in her hand. "Am I interrupting something?" She asked. Damian jolted upright, a blush spread across his face.
"No... Nothing in particular... So you've found it I see." He replied, moving away from Raven.
"Yes, I have. It seems it is a rare demon disease. However I think I have found the cure though. Raven must confess to her true love, and kiss him passionately. Those are the conditions. Think you're up to the challenge?"
"Uh..." Damian whispered. "We aren't in love. At all. I was bent over her because I wanted to check her temperature and other things." "Stop lying to yourself." The voice in Damian's head said, making him shiver.
"Well, learn to love her, otherwise she'll never be free of this disease. I have a suppressant, it will run out. Don't take too long with your feelings Damian. Raven's life is at stake." Star-fire lifted Raven's head up, making her swallow the small pill.
Damian's head was whirling. "Tell Star-fire the truth. Say you love Raven. It's not hard." "Stop ok!" He shouted at himself, barging into the elevator, waiting for the beep of his floor. Beep. The elevator beeped, opening its doors. Damian jumped out, running to his room.
"Loving is just something I'm not good at. I'll need some help." Damian shattered the glass of his room's window, using his grappling hook that he always has on him, swinging himself throughout the city, in search of his other home, the 'Wayne Mayor'.
