Wake me up
23:59, 21 July 2014Ed's POV
Gently, my eyes fluttered open to the morning light. I felt refreshed and healthy; I had an amazing sleep. Without knowing, my eyes carefully avert to my left and then the events of last night came seeping through.
Louise...
I watched as Louise lay peacefully, her hand draped around my chest and her body relaxed. Her breathing was steady showing that she was sleeping calmly. Wisps of her messy, golden hair floated around on her face but mainly trailed down her back. I now noticed that she had the tiniest beauty spot hiding below her ear, out of sight. Although she was asleep, she was still smiling her gorgeous, heart melting smile which set off a swarm of butterflies in my stomach each time the edges of her lips twitched.
She was beautiful.
"You're staring at me." She whispered, eyes still closed. I thought she was asleep. And how did she know I was staring?
"Good morning, sunshine." I smiled and her eyes flicked open.
Her eyes were a pale shade of blue etched with a very light, mild hint of green closer to the pupil. They reminded me of the Tenerife Sea. They were so easy to get lost in.
"I've never noticed before, but you have beautiful eyes." The words slipped out of my mouth. Why did I just say that? I tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ear so I could see her stunning face properly.
"Thanks." She blushed. Gosh her blush was cute.
I wrapped my arm around her and she laid her head on my chest as if it were a pillow. This felt right.
"I can't believe we..." Louise trailed off.
"Do you regret it?" I whispered.
She shook her head and smiled up at me. I kissed her gently on the cheek.
"Neither do I." I smiled quitely.
"I don't usually do this sort of thing with a guy I've only known a few weeks but with you... I don't know. It feels like I've known you longer."
"Me too." My fingertips trace on her bare arm. "I don't want to get up, I just want to stay here with you all day."
I felt like I could tell this girl anything. Even if it did sound weird or desperate. Why? Because I just knew that she felt the same.
"Yeah, but we have work in," She leaned over me to check my alarm clock. "Well, ages away."
"Then half the day." I said and played with her hair.
"Ed," She began.
"Mhmm?"
"Tell me something about you that nobody else knows." She told me.
"There isn't anything really, I'm kind of an open book. Everyone knows everything about me, even if they don't think they do." I replied.
"Doesn't that count as something no one knows about you? The fact that they don't know that they know everything about you?" She said which took a bit for me to understand, then I realised.
"Oh yeah, I guess so." I realised. "What about you?"
"What about me?" She rubbed her eyes.
"Tell me something no one knows about you."
She fell silent so I assumed she didn't hear me or something. I was about to ask her again when I noticed the thinking expression she held.
"I don't believe in God." She finally spoke.
"Why does no one know that about you?" I was thoroughly confused.
"Because my parents were very religious and I guess I was too frightened to tell them I didn't believe in it." She confessed. "And all my friends were religious too, so I guess I didn't want to be out casted."
"So, you've just been living a lie when you're around them?" I asked, truely interested.
"Yeah, I guess so." She shrugged as if it meant nothing, but I could tell it did.
"Wow, for how long?"
"Since I was 9."
"And they still don't know?" I asked and then I felt Louise's body go rigid next to me. Did I touch a nerve?
"Uhm, they're...they're not alive anymore..." Louise suddenly sat up, wrapping the covers around her to hide her body.
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"Don't be." She shook her head smiling.
Although I was extremely eager to know what happened to her parents, I didn't want to be nosey or make her feel uncomfortable.
I sat up, wearing nothing but my boxers, cross legged so we were face to face. I quickly bent backwards and picked my t-shirt up and pulled it on, still sitting opposite her.
"Do you like kale?" I randomly asked as it was the first thing that came to mind.
"What's that?"
"Some horrible leafy vegetably thing. It's horrid. I hate it." I told her. Why the heck was I telling her this? "It's my least favourite food in the whole world."
"Mine's pickled onions. Floating about in their jars of vinegar like they own the place." She told me which made me chuckle.
"Yeah, they're pretty rank." I agreed.
"No, it's not even the taste. They just, they intimidate me."
"They intimidate you? How?" I was grinning at her weird choice of word.
"I don't know, they just do." She shook her head in disgust thinking about them.
"You're so random." I laughed.
"But they just look at you with their big eyes..."
"Eyes? What?" I started to laugh.
"Oh shush you kale hater."
"Whatever you pickled onion discriminator." I joked.
"Why are we talking about kale and pickled onions?" She laughed.
"I have no idea." I shook my head.
"You wanna make breakfast?" She suggested. "Since we actually have food for once."
"As long as there's no intimidating pickled onions to get up in ma face or revolting kale." I said.
"Well... I can't make any promises..." She smiled.
"I'll just have to trust ya."
"I'm just gonna get changed and brush my teeth. I'll be down in a minute." She scooted off my bed, my blanket covering her whole body.
"Hey, where're you going with my blanket?"
"Off to Neverland!" She called back and walked out the door.
I fell back on my bed and smiled to myself. This girl was amazing.
*****
Louise's POV
Cooking together. Just him and I. Like in Camp. But instead, this time, he was my boyfriend and I was his girlfriend. It felt weird to say it aloud, but it was true. The boy that I had liked ever since I had first laid eyes on was my boyfriend!
"What you thinking about?" Ed smiled as he reached over me to get the bread.
"Oh nothing." I shook my head. "Uhm, I'll cut some fruit up."
"Alright." He replied.
I picked up some apples from the fruit bowl and got out a knife and began chopping.
"I see you're showing off your cooking skills Edward." I smiled.
"Yeah man. It takes talent to make awesome toast. It's very tricky, I tell ya. I'm an expert at making toast though." He smirked.
"How do you do it?" I joked.
"Well the key is in the timing. You gotta get it right or you're gonna end up with burnt toast." He said jokingly.
"I'll keep that in mi- HOLY MOTHER OF SOMETHING RIDICULOUS!" I yelled.
Blood oozed out of my finger from where the extremely sharp knife had pierced through my delicate skin. I quickly moved my finger to my mouth to suck on the wound.
"What happened? Let me see." Ed rushed over.
"I cut it." I mumbled, my finger still in my mouth.
"Let me see." He gentle spoke and I slipped it out of my mouth to show him.
His fingers delicately traced the out line of the cut, sending shocks of electricity through my body with the feel of his touch.
"I'll sort it." He said then got a tissue and placed it under some cold water. He then gently pressed it on my cut making the pain become less painful.
Without me even knowing, my eyes drifted towards his and his eyes do the same. Our gazes are fixed on each other and we just stand there like idiots looking at each other.
His eyes are so gorgeous. A beautiful blend of pale blue and green swirling together in harmony, hypnotising me. I couldn't seem to keep my eyes off them.
"Erm..." Ed snapped us both out of our little momemt. "I'll fetch you a plaster."
"Thanks." I smiled and he removed the tissue and went in search for a plaster.
All the blood seemed to had gone and no more was seeping out. Ed rushed towards me and his careful hands carefully wrapped a plaster around my cut.
"There." He smiled and looked at me. "You're all good."
"Thanks." I repeated.
"And you call yourself a chef." He smirked. "I'd keep away from the knife if I were you."
"Shush you."
"Hey, you were the one-" Ed was cut off by the ear piercing screech of the fire alarm and the smell of burnt toast invaded my nose.
Ed paced to the alarm and turned it off as I walked towards the toaster and popped it out.
"And you call yourself an expert at making toast." I joked as I held up the burnt toast in my hands. "It's all in the timing."
"I am an expert!" He protested. "If you weren't so clumsy..."
"Hey!"
"I'm just sayin." He held his hands up in surrender which made me laugh.
"I'm just sayin." I mimicked his voice.
"You know I'm right." He smirked.
"That's the scary bit." I grinned.
We carried on making breakfast (quite badly) until everything was made. Nothing extravagant. Just semi burnt toast as Ed got his 'timing' wrong again and a half cut apple as I was forbidden to finish cutting it and Ed didn't know how. Hey, nothing's perfect.
But when I was with him...it didn't need to be.
Once we had finished eating, I went upstairs for a shower before I had to go to work. I began to get undressed when my fingers traced something unusual. It felt weird.
I stalked towards the mirror in the bathroom to have a closer look.
My heart stopped.
It was a lump.
