chapter nueve

The final product came out better than I imagined in my head. A pillow sized stuffed colorful pegasus with six inched glittery wings and a huge smile. It looked sort of small in my large hands but hopefully it will be perfect for Persephone.

The sun was starting to set. I rushed back to the place where the trees were burned. I looked around and found Demeter and Persephone sitting on the sand now, making sand castles and making flowers grow around their sand castles like little body guards. I felt jealous, remembering how close my mom and I used to be (still hitting that sore spot, aren't I?).

Persephone looked up and ran over to me, taking the pegasus right out of my hands.

Behind her, Demeter called, "Now, Persephone, what do you say?" Persephone looked at Demeter, and then back at me.

"Thank you!" Persephone chirped.

"You're welcome," I said. "What are you going to name it?"

"Hmm," she thought. "I want to name it Leo, after you." She flashed me a smile. I smiled back, then hugged her, and picked her up, and spun her around while she hit my back with her small fists and laughed really loudly. I set her down after a few seconds and turned to Demeter, a silent message in my eyes.

"As promised," Demeter said.

She brought her hand up to the first tree. Instantly, it became green again. She did this over and over again but it was still so cool to look at, even after the tenth time. Soon, the whole place was bright green instead of that awful black. Fruits and flowers that weren't there before were bursting with color. It was hard, but I finally took my eyes off the magnificent shades of color.

"Thank you," I said gratefully.

"And thank you," she responded. Demeter took her daughter's hand. Persephone put pegasus Leo on the sand for a second, just so she could wave bye to me, then picked it up again and shook the sand out like a dog would shake water out of its fur.

I pivoted and started walking back to find Calypso. When I looked over my shoulder, they were no longer there.
