Chapter 5: Veruca Salt
08:48, 15 January 2019RECAP:Willy looks at us and smiles, "come on let's boogie!" while leaving.***
We left the inventing room, Willy won't let go of my of hand so I let ir be. Charlie looked at me and smiled, I could tell by his eyes that he was saying, "you like him! and he likes you!".I smiled back and nodded, Willy and I made that pretty clear back in the candy forest. Is it weird that I fell for him, so fast? I shook it off.
"Without the boat, we'll have to move double time just to keep on schedule. There's far too much to see." Willy said in a rush.
"Mr. Wonka?" Charlie asked, "Yeah? Willy looked down at Charlie. 'Why did you decide to let people in?" Charlie being a curious person asked.
"Well so they can see the factory of course" Willy replied nicely, he was only nice to Charlie and I.
"But why now, and why only 5?" Charlie still being really curious.
Right before Willy could speak, Mike jumped in rudely, "Whats the special prize and who gets it?". Wow, rude much? But I couldn't get angry because Willy kept squeezing my hand to let me know, it's ok. I've really falling hard for Willy but where have I seen him before?
Willy came up with a good comeback to Mike's rudeness, "The best kind of prize is a surprise!" with a laugh.
Veruca pushes Mike off to the side and asks, " Will Violet always be a blueberry?" I know the reason why she asked is to get some attention, I can tell by the look on her face.
First he starts off serious then after no it gets a bit playful," No. Maybe. I don't know, but that's what you get from chewing gum all day. Its just disgusting". We continued down the hallway, to the next room.
"If you hate gum so much, why do you make it?" Mike said quite rudely for like the thousandth time. What is wrong with this boy's attitude?
That's when Willy almost snapped, 'Once again, you really shouldn't mumble, 'cause it's kinda starting to bum me out." So I quickly squeezed his hand twice. The started to relax, which was good.
Curious Charlie strikes again, "Can you remember the first candy you ever ate?" I giggled at this question.
Then we stopped and Willy's face twitched, "No". His face went blank and I could tell he was having a flashback. I rubbed his back until the flashback stopped and so I whispered to him, "it's ok Willy, it's over now".
Willy smiled, "Sorry, I was having a flashback.." Still a bit dazed.
Mr. Salt pulled back his daughter, "I see". He's not going to attack her or anything!
"These flashbacks happen often?" Mr. Teavee asked curiously.
"Increasingly today" Willy smiled a bit uncomfortably. We walked again until we made it to the, Nut Sorting Room.
Mr. Salt saw the door and pointed out, "ah, this is a room I know all about, for you see Mr.Wonka, I myself am in the nut business" as Mr. Salt pulled out a card handing it to Willy, which he threw over his shoulder without looking at it. I giggled a little which cause Willy to smile and look at me from the corner of his eye.
"Are you using the Havimax 4000 to do your sorting?" Mr. Salt turned to Willy asking this.
By the look on Willy's face, I could tell he was going to say something ridiculous, "No. You're really weird" Willy laughed and headed in the room pulling me along with him. We walked to the railing to see a lot of squirrels opening nuts and throwing away bad ones, the room was a white and little blue swirl."This factory is amazing, Willy" I whispered. Willy smiled proudly and kissed my cheek, " thank you darling". I smiled and then I saw Veruca.
Veruca looked at it all with greedy eyes, oh no.
"Squirrels!" Veruca beamed.
"Yeah, Squirrels. These squirrels are specially trained, to get nuts out of shells." Willy smiled proudly. I smiled at his confidence, and looked around.
"Why use squirrels and not Oompa Loompa's?" Mr. Salt asked.
"Because only squirrels can get the whole walnut out almost every single time." Willy replied and Mr. Salt nodded as Willy continued, "You see how they tap each one with their little knuckles, to make sure it's not bad?" Willy smiled.
"Oh, look, look!" Willy pointed to a squirrel. We looked and the squirrel had the nut to it's ear, "I think that one's got a bad nut" Willy informed, as the squirrel throws it away.
Then the cloud before the storm arrived, "Daddy, I want a squirrel. Get me one of those squirrels. I want one." the little brat whined, oh gosh.
"Veruca, dear, you have many marvelous pets." Mr. Salt tired to deal with.
Then Veruca goes off, "All I've got at home is one pony and two dogs and 4 cats and six bunny rabbits and two parakeets and three canaries and a green parrot and a turtle and a silly old hamster! I want a squirrel!". Oh My Gosh, it took everything I had in m not to yell at the little brat! Ok 1, 2 3, 4... I'm good.
Willy frowned at this small outburst and the answer from Mr. Salt, "All right, pet. Daddy'll get you a squirrel, just as soon as I possibly can." Willy heard the small british voice again, "but I don't want any old squirrel. I want a trained squirrel"
Mr. Salt sighed, "very well. Mr. Wonka?" Willy looked up at the businessman as he continued to talk, "how much do you want for one of these squirrels? Name your price."
"Uh, they're not for sale. She can't have one." Willy said politely and squeezed my hand.
Veruca smiled dropped and she turned to her father and said in a demanding voice, "daddy!".
"I'm sorry Veruca but Mr. Wonka is being unreasonable" Willy intimated Mr. Salt in a silly way puckering his lips, putting his nose in the air and did a british accent, which I stifled a laugh again.
Veruca looked at her father, "If you don't get m a squirrel, I'll get one myself." She said angry and went under the railing walking down the stairs. Ignoring her father's call. "Veruca." Mr. Salt said, then Willy stepped in, "Little girl?". Uh oh, this isn't going to end very well.
"Veruca, come back here at once." Her father called but Veruca continued to ignore and kept looking and walking around.
"Veruca!" her father said a bit louder but failed to stop her. Then all squirrels stopped doing what they were doing and turned to look at what was about to happen. Veruca walked towards a squirrel looking determined.
"Little girl? Uh, don't touch that squirrels nuts. It'll make him crazy!" Willy warned but nothing caught, Veruca's attention.
Veruca and the squirrel made eye contact and Veruca smiled and went to pick him up, "I'll have you!". The squirrel squealed and jumped from his seat causing the others to do the same and attach Veruca, pushing her down.
Her father called out her name. Willy let go of my hand and started to go through the huge thing of keys, pretending to try and find the right one. I held Charlie close as we watch the whole thing unfold.
Veruca screamed which cause for her father to yell in panic, "Veruca!".
"If I would find the key.." Willy whispered still going through the thing of keys. He tries another key but it doesn't work, "nope not that one!".
"Daddy!" Veruca calls out, her father yells back, "Veruca!". Willy still is searching for the key, "no!" he kind of laughs but earns a glare from Mr. Salt. Then the squirrels finally hold her down completely.
"Here it is" he tires but fails, "here it isn't.." he frowns and I become a bit scared.
"Daddy! I want them to stop!" Veruca whined. A squirrel comes onto her chest and looks at her. Everything becomes dead silent as the squirrel looks at her, crawls up her and knocks on her forehead, which echos and it listened.
"What are they doing?" I asked Willy worried. He looks at me reassuringly and says, "they're testing to see if she's a bad nut." he replied calmly.
The squirrel squeaks, and Willy looks at Veruca, "oh my goodness, she is a bad nut, after all". He didn't seem so surprised by this. The squirrels pick her up and drag her away toward the garbage chute.
"Veruca!" her father yelled as she was being dragged away.
"Daddy!" She yelled and leaving scratch makers on the floor.
"Where are they taking her?" Mr. Salt asked worried and looked at Willy, who replied in a obviously tone,"where all the other bad nuts go, to the garbage chute." as we all watched quietly.
"Where does the chute go?" Mr. Salt yelled. Willy watched, "to the incinerator, but don't worry. We only light it on tuesdays".
"But Wi- Mr. Wonka today is tuesday..." I looked at him still frightened. Mr. Salt turned white and watched what was happening.
Willy looked at me trying to reassure me, "Well, there's always the chance they decided not to light it today." I nodded slowly and turned back watching. Veruca screamed going down the garbage chute and I closed my eyes. The squirrel go back to what they were doing.
"Now, she may be stuck in the chute just below the top. If that's the case, all you gotta do is reach in and pull her out, okay?" Willy says making a pulling motion. Mr. Salt nodded and Willy unlocked the door, opened it. Mr. walked down the step, as Willy re locked the gate. I instantly knew what was going to happen, Willy secretly put his arm around my waist keeping me close. All of a sudden, Oompa Loompas in yellow suits started to come out singing and dancing slowly.

Willy smiled and stood up once the Oompa Loompa left, "I've just been informed that the incinerators broken, so there should be about three weeks of rotten garbage to break their fall" Willy smiled to me and I nodded back smiling and he had let go of my waist by then.
"Well that's good news!" I said smiling and happy that they are okay and that they got what they deserved.
Willy smiled back," yeah". He turned forward, "well... let's keep truckin'". With that we walked to a glass elevator.
