What We Choose in the End

Y/n entered Park Group's towering glass building with her head high and hands steady.

She wore no makeup.

No designer blazer.

Just herself.

For the first time.

And the entire executive board would be there to see it.

The elevator ride was quiet, but her heart pounded. Not from fear.

From clarity.

She didn't ask for this life.

But if she was going to live it, it would be on her terms.

And she would not let her father's narrative define her anymore.

The conference room was filled.

Her father sat at the head of the table, sharp in a navy suit, surrounded by suited men with cold smiles and calculating eyes.

"Park Y/n," he said as she entered, "We weren't expecting you."

"I know," she said calmly, taking the empty chair at the far end.

Whispers circled the room.

She opened her folder, eyes scanning the presentation schedule.

Then closed it.

"I won't be giving a report today."

Park Daehun's brow furrowed. "Excuse me?"

She stood.

"I'm not here to report. I'm here to reclaim."

Gasps. A few coughs. Her mother quiet at the far corner hid a small, proud smile.

Y/n turned to face the board.

"For years, I've been trained to follow every rule. Be top 2. Obey. Win. Sacrifice."

She met her father's eyes, unwavering.

"And I did all of it. Quietly. Until I realized no matter what I did, it would never be enough."

"Y/n—" he started.

"No," she cut in. "I know my worth now. And I won't let you use fear to keep me in line anymore."

A pause. Long. Sharp.

Then she breathed out. "If you don't think I deserve Park Group... fine. But don't act like I haven't earned it."

The room held its breath.

Then, softly from the corner, her mother stood.

"She's right."

Daehun turned, stunned. "What?"

"She's right," her mother said again, voice calm but firm. "You've spent too long molding her into something that you wanted. And still, she showed up. She built herself. With or without your permission."

Silence.

Then a soft knock.

The doors opened and Taehyung stepped in.

Wearing a suit. Holding a folder. Standing with his back straight.

"Sorry," he said, "I have something to say, too."

Daehun's expression soured. "This isn't a family playground—"

"No," Taehyung said calmly. "But it is a place of business. And I represent the Kim Group. Our name has weight here."

The tension shifted.

"I want to make a joint proposal," Taehyung continued. "Between Park Group and Kim Corp. Not based on marriage or power or image. But vision."

He slid the folder onto the table.

"I trust Y/n to lead it. With or without her father's approval. Because I've seen what she's capable of. Not just in boardrooms but in people's lives."

Y/n stared at him, eyes burning.

Taehyung didn't look away.

"Her strength terrifies people. And that's exactly why she's the future."

After the meeting ended, the board was buzzing with cautious approval. Some still skeptical. But none denying what they had just seen.

Daehun didn't speak to her. Didn't stop her.

But he didn't reject her, either.

For now that was enough.

That evening, Y/n and Taehyung sat side by side in her garden, shoes off, heels discarded.

"You didn't have to come," she whispered.

"I did."

He looked over at her.

"You stood up for yourself. I couldn't miss it. You finally chose you."

Y/n smiled faintly. "It still hurts."

"I know," he said softly. "But the beautiful thing is hurt can't control you anymore."

She leaned her head on his shoulder.

"I'm proud of you," he whispered.

And this time, she believed it.
