Chapter 11 - Lines Blur

The next few days passed in a quiet haze of shared glances and untold feelings.
The late-night study sessions between Taehyung and Y/n turned into unspoken traditions ones they didn't question anymore. Their conversations were no longer filled with jabs and rules. They flowed quiet and easy, like breathing.
Like trust.
One Friday evening, Y/n found herself in Taehyung's room for the first time.
"I can't believe your family has a rooftop lounge," she muttered, stepping into the warm twilight breeze.
Taehyung grinned. "Perks of having parents who don't know how to spend time with their son, so they build pretty things instead."
Y/n looked at him then really looked. He wasn't performing anymore. Not the golden boy. Not Top 1.
Just Taehyung.
She sat on one of the low sofas, eyes drifting to the glittering skyline.
"It's peaceful here."
He nodded. "It's the only place I feel like I can breathe."
She turned to him, suddenly brave. "Do you miss him?"
Taehyung's breath hitched. "Every second."
The silence settled thick between them. Then, softly:
"I always felt like I was living in his shadow," he continued. "Even before the accident. And after... I guess I just took his place. But I never filled it."
Y/n's heart clenched. "Maybe you weren't meant to."
Taehyung looked at her, brows drawn. "Then what am I meant to be?"
She hesitated, then reached out fingers brushing his lightly.
"Someone who gets to choose what kind of life he wants. Not just what's left behind."
For a long moment, he didn't respond.
Then he turned his hand, lacing their fingers like it was the most natural thing in the world.
"You're dangerous," he whispered.
Y/n blinked. "What?"
"You say things that make me want to believe in something again."
Her breath caught.
Taehyung leaned in slowly, pausing inches away. His voice was lower now, careful. "Tell me to stop."
She didn't.
And when his lips met hers, it wasn't fireworks or a crashing wave. It was soft. Honest. Fragile.
Like a line being crossed and neither of them wanted to go back.
That weekend, Jennie dragged the truth out of her.
"You kissed him?!"
"Shh!" Y/n hissed, burying her face in her pillow. "It just... happened."
Jennie grinned. "And do you regret it?"
Silence.
Y/n peeked out from the pillow, cheeks burning. "No."
Jennie's eyes softened. "Y/n... if it's real, maybe it's okay to let yourself have something for you."
Y/n nodded slowly.
For once, her heart wasn't calculating, fighting, or chasing a title.
It was... full.
Across town, Taehyung lay awake, staring at the ceiling.
"Hyung," he whispered to the dark, "I think I'm finally feeling something that doesn't hurt."
And this time... it had nothing to do with proving himself.
It had everything to do with her.
