I was frozen. I couldn't believe it. I refused to believe it.
"What do you mean? How?" Baekhyun asked for me.
"I don't know, but he said he'd explain when we got to the hospital. Chanyeol's already there," he said. I looked at Taeyoung and could see she was confused and scared.
"Then let's go," I said. He nodded a couple of times and then we all scurried over to the car. Baekhyun shut the front door and got in after us. We made it to the hospital in less than ten minutes and asked the lady at the desk where he was when he entered. We found his room and Chanyeol was waiting outside with another person who I figured was Lay.
"I'm glad you guys came," he said as he stood. "Someone stop me from killing this asshole right now."
"Okay, let's all just calm down for a second here," Baekhyun said, pulling Chanyeol back. "First of all, how is he? Is he okay?"
"I don't know. The doctor's still in there with him and said she'd talk to us after she was done," Chanyeol said in distress, running a hand through his hair." I nodded and peaked my head in, seeing a few people standing around a bed but not a glimpse of Jongin.
"So, what happened exactly?" Sehun asked, looking at Lay. He looked up at us with fear in his eyes.
"I already told the police what happened," he mumbled with a shaking voice.
"Then explain it to us again, asshole!" Sehun said, suddenly yelling and making Lay flinch.
"O-Okay, fine." He held his hands up in surrender. "I came to him a couple of weeks ago asking if he could come with me to make this drug deal with some guys. He hesitantly agreed, and last night we met them in some alley. Turns out the guys were some people Kai's dad owed money to. Still, I had everything they asked for and thought we could just make the deal and leave. But they kept hounding him about their money as if he would know anything. I tried to calm them down, but they just got more pissed and then one of them pulled a knife out...they left as soon as he hit the ground. I tried to help him as much as I could, but I had to carry him to the closest hospital," he explained.
I sighed heavily, feeling tears enter my eyes but trying to keep them back for Taeyoung's sake.
"You son of a bitch," Chanyeol said after some silence had passed.
"Chanyeol," Baekhyun said, holding on tightly to his arm to try and keep him still.
"No." He escaped his grasp and walked closer to Lay. "How dare you even ask him for help after what you did to him? He never should have helped you the very first time, and you had the balls to ask him again? You must have some serious problems. And now he is laying in a hospital bed all because of you," he said, beginning to choke up. You better do yourself a favor and get the hell out of here before I put you in a hospital bed next." There was a tense silence that filled the air. None of said anything. Lay looked to the ground, tears starting to fill his eyes.
"Okay," he said, looking up again. "I'm so sorry. I never meant for this to happen."
"Save your goddamn apologies and just leave," Chanyeol said. He slowly nodded his head. He turned around and started to head towards the exit. Pretty soon, he disappeared out the door, leaving Chanyeol standing there, clenching his fists tightly. Baekhyun went over and grabbed hold of both of them. Chanyeol's face of anger began to turn into one of sadness, prompting Baekhyun to hug him.
The doctor came out of his room after what felt like hours later. "Well, I wish I had better news, but the truth is, he's lost a lot of blood, and honestly, we don't know how long he can hold on for," she said. "If he would have gotten here sooner, maybe we could have done more, but it's not looking too good right now. We've done everything we possibly can. Now it's up to time. I'm sorry."
She left shortly after that, taking my heart right out of my chest as she walked away. I set Taeyoung down carefully and stayed close to the ground. She wasn't crying yet, but I could tell she was upset more than she was confused now.
"You go see him first. I'm sure he'd be happy to see you," I said, trying to smile for her. She sniffled a little and nodded quietly. She walked into the room, the door shutting behind her. She was in there for about fifteen minutes before she came back, her eyes wet with tears. She came up to me and hugged me tightly, crying into my shirt. I waved to the other, telling them to go in first while I stayed with her.
"I'll take her back to my place for now," Sehun said to me once he had come back out with Chanyeol and Baekhyun. I nodded and thanked him, giving Taeyoung one more hug before they both left the hospital.
"I'll call you later, okay?" Baekhyun said, putting a hand on my shoulder. "You're more than welcome to come back over to my place."
"Okay, thanks," I said, smiling as much as I could.
"He'll make it. He has to make it," Chanyeol said, chewing on his fingernail as he gazed at the door to his room. I just moved my eyes to the floor in an effort to hold back any tears.
They left too and I stayed in the hall for a while before going in. When I walked in, he was asleep. It gave me comfort to see his chest raise and fall and hear the heart monitor beep with every few passing seconds. I sat down in a chair by his bedside, holding onto his hand tightly.
"I don't know if you can hear me or not and even if you can, I know I already said this, but I'm sorry," I said. "I'm really sorry for everything. I love you so much and I really just want you to be okay so I can make it up to you." I paused and listened to his breaths. I lifted his hand up to my lips, pressing a few soft kisses on it. "I love you. I love you," I repeated as I felt the tickle of a tear going down my cheek.
Before I could get anything out, I began to cry silently, lowering his hand and resting my head on the bed. A few minutes later, the sudden feeling of a tightened grip on my hand caused me to look up. I looked at my hand and saw that Jongin was now holding my hand and his eyes were slowly opening.
"J-Jongin?" I said, my voice soft and hesitant.
His eyes moved to mine and he smiled faintly. "Hey, babe," he said, his voice barely audible. More tears poured from my eyes. "I love you, too." I huffed a little, not even trying to hold back my smile. He detached our hands and raised his up to my cheek before wiping them away.
"I'm so sorry," I said, staring him directly in his eyes.
"Stop apologizing," he said. "You're giving me a headache." I laughed a little and leaned down to kiss him. I pulled back after he returned my kiss. "C-Come here," he struggled to say, placing his hand on his bed. I obliged as he moved over a little to make room for me. I laid down next to him, resting my head on his chest, as he put an arm around me. I snuggled as close to him as possible, fearing that this may be our last moment together.
