Meeting Fury
07:34, 27 April 2025I woke up to an empty bed, where Peter was last night the sheets were slightly ruffled but other than that there was no sign that he was ever here. For some reason I felt slightly sad that he left but I quickly got up and put my shoes and socks on. I felt very uncomfortable in my very dirty clothes. None of them were stained but they were sweaty and sticky. I had to meet Nick in forty five minutes though so I didn't really have a choice.
I walked to the door and slipped outside of my room. The hallway was empty but I could hear noise from the kitchen. I felt slightly nervous to see everyone for the first time, especially considering I haven't brushed my teeth or my hair and I was wearing five days old clothes.
When I walked into the kitchen i saw Tony, Peter, Captain America, and Black Widow sitting in front of the kitchen island talking to eachother. Everyone was drinking coffee except Peter. I smiles at Peter and he smiled back. I felt slightly uncomfortable since I barely knew these people but finally Tony noticed me and gestured for me to sit next to Peter. I walked over and sat next to Peter. Natasha glanced at me but didn't say anything.
"So Ashlyn, when it's time for the meeting with Nick I'll show you where he'll be since he wanted me to join you two." Tony said. I nodded and he took another sip of coffee. "Afterwards I'll take you shopping."
I nodded again but Natasha suddenly looked up from her coffee and her eyes bored into Tony's.
"Shopping? You have a conference two hours after the meeting with Nick." Natasha states. She seems to be trying to figure out something.
"Yeah, so? She needs clothes. She's been wearing those for a while and they're from Hydra." He said the name with hate and I had to suppress a shudder.
"And your not giving her any now?"
"Well I don't have any do I?"
"Tony, I love you but sometimes your really stupid. She can borrow one of my old pants and shirt."
Tony blinked like he just realized that. "Oh, yeah I guess she could."
I had to hold back from rolling my eyes since I didn't want to make them angry. It was kind of funny though, the great Tony Stark, outsmarted by a spy. I mean, I guess it makes since.
Natasha stood up and nodded to me, "come on."
I followed her to her room down the hall. Her room was a plain with a few weapons hanging up. Most of the stuff was either red or black and the only personal thing she had was about five photos scattered about. Some were for he Avengers, some were of her family, and some with agents from S.H.I.E.L.D.
She opened her closet door and walked inside. I took a step closer and peered inside, most of her clothes were black spy stuff but she had a few regular sweats and tshirts. She grabbed a plain white T-shirt and jeans and handed them to me.
"If these don't fit you then I have a few others that could work." Natasha stated and hesitated before speaking further. "If you... if you need anything you can come to me alright? I... know what it's like, to be forced to work towards a bad cause."
I nodded, I didn't really know what to say. I was definitely not going to talk to Natasha Romanoff about my feelings but it would be nice to have another friend.
"Thank you." I said gratefully.
"No problem, and, I want you to meet someone when your done with the meeting if that's alright. His names Bucky Barnes, and I think you'll have a lot more in common than you realize."
I just nodded, lost in thought, I knew a Bucky Barnes didn't I? I remember the name from somewhere...
She told me I could change in her bathroom and I did so. It felt good to be in a new outfit and it fit almost perfectly. I was still think about this Bucky Barne, who was he? I was certain I knew him form somewhere. I left Natasha's room and immediately Tony grabbed my arm. I flinched even though I tried to hold it back but I don't think he noticed.
"Come on, Nick rescheduled our meeting to a restaurant nearby and we're going to be late if we don't go now. Nicks a good friend and I don't want to keep him waiting." Tony smiled.
"Oh... okay."
But Tony was already guiding me downstairs and to the elevator. We stood in it awkwardly, Tony happy to see his friend and I... well... just trying not to anger anyone. The elevator stopped and he lead me to his car outside. It was a black Audi R8 and I had to admit, it looked awesome. He got into the drivers seat and I hesitantly got into the passengers seat next to him. He immediately started driving.
As he drives he played some music on the radio, AC DC. I've never listened tot hem before although I've heard of them. The music was great though.
"Do you like this? It's my favorite band. No one else in the tower does though, well, except for maybe Peter but he always agrees with me." Tony smiled, not looking away from the road.
"Yeah, it's good." I responded, also looking towards the road, New York was beautiful.
"Have you and Peter gotten closer? He's your age so... I feel like you would be good friends."
"Er... yeah. We've... talked more."
Tony nods and smiles. We stay silent until we arrive at S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters. We step out of the car and Tony leads me to the entrance. Tony pulls out a keycard and swipes it, a light turns green and he opens the door. We're met with a lobby that contains a few couches and tables. At the far end is a check in counter that goes all the way across except for another door. Tony leads me to one of the five people behind the counter.
"Tony! Hi, what do you need today?" The lady asks, smiling. She hadn't noticed me yet.
"Im here with Ashlyn Moore, we're here to talk to Fury." Tony said gesturing to me.
The lady eyes me and her smile falters slightly. "What time was your meeting for?"
"12:00."
The lady (Linda her name tag said) started typing away on her computer and then handed us a small plastic keycard. I looked at it confused. Did we not already have one? Linda sees my confusion and smiles softly.
"It's for the door to the offices. This keycard only goes to the offices for security reasons, not any of our other training building or main work buildings. When you leave you have to return it and you only get one." She states.
I nod, I guess it made since. Tony gave a quick goodbye and then walked to the door and swiped the new keycard before walking through. This new hallway had many doors on either side leading to what I guessed was offfices. Tony walked for a little bit with me following before knocking on a door at the end. I hear a deep voice respond "come in." And Tony opens the door with me following. This office had one desk in it with two chairs in front. Behind the desk was Nick Fury, wearing a black outfit and his signature eye patch. The only other things in the room was bookshelves and a small dead plant in the corner. The room was very plain with no personal stuff besides books and one photo of him and the Avengers.
"Hell Tony, your late by two minutes." Fury stated but sounded like he was partially joking.
"Yeah, well, Natasha had to have a dress up party." Tony rolled his eyes and sat down. I awkwardly followed suit.
"So, you're the girl I've heard so much about." This time Fury's words were directed at me.
I shifted nervously under his gaze. "Er... yeah. Ashlyn."
"I know."
It was silent for a minute before Fury spoke again, "So, we need to know if your trustworthy."
I nod, "yeah, I heard. I just... er... don't know how to prove it."
Nick smiled. "Well let's start of with this, why should we trust you?"
Trust, trust, trust. That's all I ever hear now. Can we trust you to complete this mission? Don't break our trust or we'll punish you. Hydra. And now the Avengers. Why should we trust you? They shouldn't. I'm not trustworthy and I don't want to be trusted. I'm fifteen and I have no one left in my life. I want to be dead.
"Honestly sir, you shouldn't. I've attempted to kill every one of the Avengers and almost succeeded. At any moment I could turn back against you." I felt Tony's eyes burn into the side of my head but I ignored him and continued, "I don't want to be trusted. It would be easier if you left me to fend for myself."
I finally looked at Tony and he didn't seem angry, just... confused.
"Well, we can't. You have powers that could be dangerous left alone. The best option is for you to live with the Avengers. Do you want to kill the Avengers?"
I thought about it, I didn't, not really. "No sir."
"Then all we can do for now is hope your being honest."
Nick Fury stand up. "I have places to be, and I'm sure you do too. We're done here."
He leaves the room and I'm left surprised, that's it? Tony nods and stand up, leading me back the way we came, silently. We get into the car and he still hasn't spoken. Im nervous, is he angry? After a few minutes he finally speaks.
"Why? Why don't you want to be trusted?" Tony asks, glancing at me for a split second before looking back at the road.
"I..." I hesitate for a moment, I wanted to be honest. "I guess because I shouldn't be trusted. At any moment, Hydra could come back and make me kill you again. I know I would succeed and I don't want to be here."
"Then where do you want to be?"
"I don't know. I want... I don't know."
"Is there anything you want? Come on, what do you want Ashlyn Moore?"
"I want to... I want to be back at home, with my family, normal and regular and healthy." I feel tears prick my eyes but push them back, I couldn't cry, not now.
"They're dead. You have to accept that, you killed-" he stops himself. "They're dead."
I swallow the lump in my throat and look out the window, away form Tony's view of my face. "I know. I-I know."
The rest of the ride is silent and when we arrive back at the Avenhers tower we go in the elevator without another word. When we get out of the elevator Tony hesitates as if he wanted to saying something but he just shakes his head and walks away. I decide to walk to my room but two people stop me, Natasha and... The Scarlet Witch?
"Hey, this is Wanda. She's going to come shopping with us okay?" Natasha asks. Wands waves and smiles softly.
(Time skip like... three hours.)
We're walking through the last store, we have already bought all the clothes I'll need and a few decorations for my room along with books, headphones, a phone, and as netbook and art set. I didn't want to buy half the stuff but Natasha and Wanda said Tony would want me to so we did. We're walking back towards the checkout counter through the hygiene section.
"Ready to get back home?" Natasha asked.
"Yeah, definitely." Wanda said sighing.
I nod too and slow down just enough so they're a little further away from me. I quickly grab a razor box and slip it into my hoodie pocket.
Natasha turns around and sees me behind them.
"Come on, maybe we'll have time to put up these decorations before dinner." Natasha states and I hurry to catch up to them.
