Ch. 43 Chase

โ€ข---โ€ข

= RUNNING AWAY FROM VELOCIRAPTORS WASN'T EASY. The group of survivors on Isla Sorna should know this as they slam the door behind them and quickly looks around to see what was inside the room.

There are several rows of oversized steel cages, apparently used for containing young dinosaurs. Many of the cage doors are standing open. They then races down a lone aisle.

"Madison!?" Alan turns hearing Billy's voice, eyes wide as he doesn't see the normal pink and purple headed female.

"Shit!" He was about to go back for the girl until he was pulled back by Udesky, just as then, close behind, the velociraptor bursts into the room, roaring loudly.

As the Velociraptor gains ground, Alan, Paul and Udesky runs into one of the open cages, slamming the door behind them.

Amanda and Billy ducks into another. Before they can swing the cage door shut behind them, however, the velociraptor slams into it, driving the door into the cage.

They are forced back against a chain-like wall, trapped in a small triangle space by the advancing door. The angry animal is now inches away through the cage door.

Then, suddenly, the raptor looks up. We follow its gaze. The top of their triangular enclose is wide open, the eager raptor climbs up the chain-like door.

A calling is made with them turning to find another Velociraptor near the cages. This with a black skin and two white lines along the sides.

Calling aloud even more, the creature scrapes their claws against the sides of the cage. Distracting the velociraptor who turns back to the humans until they are shoved off the door and the new creature deeps their teeth into the creatures neck.

Both Billy and Amanda moved the cage so that they are with the rest of the group who goes and heads to the door. While they do so, the injured velociraptor begins to make a low, haunting moan as they have teeth deepening into their throat.

As the others head for the door, Alan lingers a step, listening to the beast's simple melodic cry and the other creatures growl. It has the same tones as came from the model resonating chamber.

"She's calling for help." He whispers. Shrugging Billy off, Alan moves forward and taps the tail of the stranger creature. "Maddy, we need to move." He tells the animal.

The creature tears their jaw from the back of the velociraptors throat, blood coated teeth snapping near Alan who merely flinches. Hoping it was Madison and not just a random dinosaur, the animal however licked the teeth and nods. Transforming back in Madison who surprisingly hadn't totally ripped her clothes.

"That was quite cool." Alan grinned, pulling the girl close to him as he grabbed his wrist.

"Thanks, your hats cool as well." Madison responds and flicks the man's hat before Paul appears.

"We gotta go." He says, ushering the pair to run to which they did. Madison bring surprisingly faster than them, her pink and purple hair flying behind her head as her white eyes stills on the exit. While she ran, the girl managed to pull out a flask and began drinking it.

The group exits the rear of the lab building and finds itself in a large equipment yard. The call of the pained velociraptor is still audible as they head for the tree line.

Responses to the calls of the raptor is heard all around them, all of them finding that they are practically surrounded by the various cries that were both distant and near.

Alan took the moment to look around with an expression of amazement upon his face, Madison was too busy whistling.

"Get to the trees!" Madison yells to two Smilodons who were seen climbing out a nearby window, Ezra helping Bumble. She shoves her flask into her bag.

Responding to the growls, a herd of grazing Hadrosaurs suddenly flees across the open space. Then, in the distance behind the herd a pack of velociraptors emerges from the jungles, heading to the humans way.

"Head for the trees!" Alan shouts, having not heard Madison who snatches her rucksack from Bumble's mouth.

From the lab building, the velociraptor that was injured by a transformed Madison, now bursts out one of the doors and howls to the pack, the same cry that they all heard in the lab.

'Please come, please!' Madison thinks, running between the two Smilodons and risks a look behind her, seeing that the others weren't there.

"Alan?" She whispers, stopping as she tries to look for them.

"THIS WAY!" Alan, the man staying with the rest of the group shouts and tries to escape the carnivores by leading the group right into the stampeding heard of hadrosaurs.

All is practically chaos. Hadrosaurs race past, splitting up the group. Letting the others get ahead of him, Alan looks back. And much to his dismay, the raptors are ignoring the hadrosaurs, not only that, he didn't see Madison.

Up ahead, Billy trips and falls. As he rolls the strap on his camera bag breaks. The boy didn't even bother to look that it was until he's already back on his feet and running.

Amanda and Paul kept close to each other and further back, the Paleontologist spots Billy's fallen camera bag. He grabs it as he runs past. Looking back, Billy sees that the older male now has his back. "ALAN!"

"KEEP GOING!" Alan waves him off urgently and they both lose sight of each other in the rush.

"Shit, shit, shit." Madison repeatedly curses, panicking. She had acted a bitch to the man, and now he was gone. The man, one of the only few she did care for was gone.

Pulling at her pink and purple hair strands, the girl's mind blurred with urgent feelings. "Alan!" She yells.

As the hadrosaurs whip past the others, Paul and Amanda climb up into a tree. A velociraptor leaps at Paul, barely missing his leg and trying to pull Paul up, Amanda nearly loses her balance. This time, Paul catchers her.

Billy climbs up a nearby tree of his own in sight of Paul and Amanda. They gathered to get her when a scream is heard.

"Udesky." Paul speaks.

"He's this way." Amanda moves in an attempt to see the man.

Hearing another new cry, Paul, Amanda and Billy moves faster through the tree until they finally see Udesky on the ground. Moaning in pain quite lonely.

In the lead, Amanda starts to climb down. But Paul grabs her, holds her back. "It's not safe." He tells his former wife.

Amanda looks worried and concerned for the man below. "We have to help him."

"He's right. A predator wouldn't leave a kill wounded." Billy sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose.

"He's not a kill, he's still alive." Amanda scoffs and breaks herself from Paul's grip and drops to the ground. She's only a foot away from the tree when velociraptors leap from their hiding places.

They almost catch her but luckily for her, Billy and Paul pull her back up on the limb The raptors stare up at them, angry their plan didn't work.

"They couldn't climb up, so they were trying to get us to come down." Paul realises, him and Amanda were most mainly traumatised but Billy. Damn he was amazed.

"They set a trap." He gives them a shaky laugh of disbelief and awe. "They actually set a trap."

Bored with waiting, the raptors go back to finish off Udesky, making a meal out of it. And those sitting up in the branches, the survivors are horrified and sickened.

Then, from the deep in the forest, a new velociraptor cry is heard, concerning the others and so the now eating raptors look up, listening, then suddenly run off into the dark jungle.
