Ch. 40 Unexpected Reunion

โ€ข--()--โ€ข

= Winded from running, Paul is caught off-guard as a furious Grant slams his back against a tree. And now there was only one thing he wants to know.

"Why did you bring us here?" Alan asks Paul who is too startled to speak. Udesky tries to step in, but Grant gives him back a look.

"Our son is on this island. We need your help to find him." Amanda finally tells the man and Paul, still crunched against the tree, pulls out a photo from his shirt pocket.

"This is him. Eric. He's thirteen now. He's just about the greatest kid in the world." Paul tells the man, and letting go of Paul, Grant takes the photo, a sears-style portrait of the boy parasailing. He shakes his head, disbelieving. He hands the photo to Billy.

The group splits into two sides with Paul and Amanda, Grant and Billy alongside Udesky stuck between.

"He's with a man named Ben Hildebrand." Amanda tells the pair with a heavy sigh.

"Who's that?" Billy asks.

"Her new boyfriend." Paul reveals but Amanda shakes her head. Nearly going to burst into flames.

"A friend. We were vacationing. Eric wanted to see the island and the dinosaurs, so Ben found a guy who would take them parasailing. They never came back." Amanda explains and Paul continues.

"We called everyone, did everything we could. Because of all the controversy over this island, no one will step in. Costa Rica says it's a no-fly zone, it's their own damn fault. Guys at the U.S Embassy, our U.S. Embassy said we should "accept the inevitable." You believe that?" Paul scoffs out of belief all the while Alan groans.

They didn't even take notice of the small cracks and ruffles of leaves as a few figures move around the bushes around them. One aiming a weapon.

"So you hired these mercenaries." Alan points to Udesky.

"We prefer recovery specialists. We do overseas custody issues and..." Udesky says, snapping his head around when he thinks he hears a low growl.

Alan interrupts the male, taking no notice of the man's sudden movement. "Then you duped us into coming here."

"We needed somebody who knew the lay of the land. Somebody who'd been to this island before." Paul tells the Paleontologist.

"I have never been on this island!" Alan yells.

"Sure you have. You wrote that book..." Paul grumbles and Billy rolls his eyes.

"That was Isla Nublar. This is Isla Sorna. The site B." Billy informs the confused man who glances to a concerned Udesky.

"I didn't know, there were two islands." He whispers, making Udesky turn to him with a shrug before turning back to the bushes.

"Still, you have survived the dinosaurs before. You saved those kids." Amanda goes to and try and encourage the Paleontologist. Seeing that now Billy turns at the sound of a crunching twig.

"A few of us survived. A lot more died. And we were better prepared and better armed, and we had Madison with us." Alan heavily sights and finally asks. "How many days have they been missing?"

A look is shared between Amanda and Paul. "Eight weeks." Both Alan and Billy were speechless. It might as well be eight years.

"After what you've seen today, you really think your son could be alive?" Alan asks in disbelief.

"He's smart, Dr. Grant. And he knows so much about dinosau-" before Amanda could finish her words, she screams loudly until Paul stops her. They turn around to find a spotted big cat, it had the patterns of a leopard and the body of a jaguar. Two big tusks of fangs protruding downwards from their mouth.

"What is that?" Paul asks the Paleontologist and Billy. Them jumping back when another one, this time it had clouded leopard patterns and the body of a female lion, the same tusks.

"Smilodons, John never spoke of them." Alan tells the group, all who look to one another until they hear a crack and turns to find the smaller giganotosaur peeking from a tree.

"Don't- move-" just as the man speaks, Amanda and Paul went to run until something lands roughly onto the ground.

They had skin as dark as black with two streaks of a reddish orange colour, the head shaped similar to the giganotosaurus. "Which one is that?"

Billy was the one to ask but Alan couldn't answer as he stays still until he notices something. Pure white eyes staring back at him, they were something he could never forget.

"The eyes, whenever she transforms they are always white and you tell by the marks that'll resemble the marks on her back."

"Maddy." He utters under his breath, hoping to death that it was her, then unexpectedly the creature was exploded into a thick smoke. Making those around jump until they hear a few coughs.

"Why on earth did I breathe in my toxic fumes?" Alan felt his heart drop at the familiar voice as a human is seen wafting the gas away, coughing hurriedly.

"Madison?" Alan calls out to the female, her head perks up with her purple and pink hair curled into a pony tail. He would've stepped forward until the cloudy leopard jumps to him and snarls.

"Stand down." Madison speaks, stopping the three creatures growling as she walks to the man.

"Is this her, Alan?" Billy asks the older male who tackles the girl into a tight hug. One hand wrapped around her waist and the other linked around her shoulders while the girl copies.

The group watch as the famous Paleontologist and the strange woman embrace one another in a moments time. Alan's hand grips the back of the females hair before they both pull back from one another.

"I thought you died." Alan whispers while the girl laughs aloud.

"I'm only twenty-six, you can't kill me off just yet." Madison smiles, punching his arm as he looks down at her appearance and she does the same.

"You've grown since the last time I saw you virtually." Alan tells the girl.

"Well I have been living out on this island for four years, living my best life in fact." Madison shrugs, rubbing the back of her head as something lights up in her head. "Anyway- why are you lot here? Also why didn't you stay still from that t-rex."

"They're looking for their son, decided to trick me and Billy here to come here." Alan answers the first part of the question, passing the girl the piece of paper where she hums in a look of acknowledgement, pulling out her flask and drinks a few drops.

"Oh, Eric?"

"You know Eric?" Amanda lurches forward at the spoken name of her lost son as the female with white hair peeking through her purple and pink strands nods.

"Stayed with me and my group for some time." Madison's explains.

"Although I lost him and Renee when we were attacked by two Spinosaurus'." Madison adds.

That didn't help the distressed mother who practically drops to her feet with Paul kneeling to her aid. "And where's your group?" Billy asks the girl.

"You are looking at them, there's Bumble the clouded leopard coated saber, Ezra the jaguar and leopard mix like saber and Zion, the Giganotosaurus." Madison points to each animal as she speaks, watching as Bumble hops over and rubs the top of their head into her palm. Purring. "Along with Renee whose most likely with Eric."

"And they haven't tried eating you?" Udesky asks in surprise.

"Why would they eat me? I'm technically their mother." Madison shrugs, smiling as she practically began pouncing on Bumble. Ruffling the Smilodons fur playfully. "Also, answer my last question, why didn't you stay still in front of that tyrannosaur Rex?"

"I tried telling them." Alan shrugs.

"That is sad, you are old enough for people to start believing you for your old wacky decisions." Madison responds. Yelling out loud when a rucksack is thrown into her face. "Seriously Zion!?"

The reptile gurgles in laughter before lifting their head, nose twitching. "Go hunt some stegosaurs! You'll know when I'll call you."

At the females words, the creature roars giddily, tail swinging side to side as he turns and runs off.

"Alright, let's get you guys off this island. The plane might have a few we can also savage what we can from it." Madison claps her hands together with an excited grin.

"Then we can head for the coast. There may be a boat left, something to get us off this island." Alan adds onto the females suggestion while Paul steps forward.

"Dr. Grant, we're not leaving without our son."

"You can stick with us, or you can go and look for him. Either way you're probably not getting out of here alive." After he speaks, Alan goes to leave. Not without grasping the females wrist and dragging her away with her three big cat companions going after them.

"You do know, the boy might most likely be alive-"

"Don't give them false hopes Maddy, Ian will be glad along with that Agent Romanoff woman that you are fine." Alan tells the girl, dropping her wrist from his hand.

"I ain't leaving this island." Madison informs Alan who stops and turns to her.

"Why not?" Alan asks.

"This is my home. I can't just abandon that." She answers, looking to him in concern and disbelief.

"Your home is with us, me, Stark, Ellie Jesus even with Ian and John." Alan whispers. A worried expression written all over his face.

"Well the home you aren't talking about didn't look at me like I was a monster from a child's bedtime story." With that, Madison struts past with Ezra and Bumble by her sides. The two big cats looking between the pair with confusion.
