Ch. 11, A herd

= HEARING VOICES. A small yawn escapes the eighteen year old's mouth, nuzzling her face into what ever she was next to. Incoherent mumbles bubbling out her mouth.

"Does she usually do this?" The voice of an infamous palaeontologist is heard from her ears, however they seemed to be a lot closer then usual.

"Don't know, probably began when you dropped her out of a tree." A young Lex voice responds, at these words. Madison groans and scrunches her eyes close even more.

"I- we do not speak of that." The palaeontologist sighs, dropping his head as the group treks further up this vast mountain. He had a hold of Madison Hammond on his back with her bag resting on his side with all her things.

He wanted to wake her up but when she didn't, he got help from the kids to try and safely bring her down. That turned out for her to just roll off the side when they pushed.

Quite sad really, and surprising enough. She only has a bruise on her left forearm from it.

"We will need to tell her about the unfortunate incident ya know Alan" Timmy tells the male, smiling widely at his words. He knew that Alan might get smacked on the back of his head.

"Let's say we were chased and I fell with her on my back." Alan speaks, not noticing the girl waking up with a low groan of snores.

He only does notice when a loud slap sound was made, the man she was on the back off groans loudly and then drops the female onto the ground to cup the back of his head.

"See, Madison always finds out." Timmy tells the older male, jabbing a finger in the girls direction where she sat. Blinking her eyes in an attempt to be fully awake.

"I can clearly see that." Alan responds. Turning to look at the girl hopping to her own feet, eyes narrow then has them return to normal when finding Alan wearing her bag.

"I'm hungry." Madison informs them, walking forward much to the confusion of others.

"We all are Maddy." Alan responds, rolling his eyes and follows the girl.

"Can't you turn into a triceratops or something and eat?" The adult man then shoots a question to the female, halting her steps as she squints her eyes at the male stepping in front of her.

"I could- but grass has little to non of flavour." Madison complains, waving her hands before she perks her head up. Hearing something.

"What is that? Tim-Tim, can you tell me what they are?" Madison stretches her arm out to point at a passing herd of running animals.

"They are...Gallimimus." Timmy

"Are those meat-eating? "Meat-asauruses"?"

"They aren't Lex, don't worry. They graze on these fields." Madison reassures the blonde child. Alan could only smile with wide eyes at the sight.

"Look at the wheeling. Uniform direction changes. Just like a flock of birds evading a predator." He says, studying the animals with just his eyes.

Tim widens his eyes. "They're flocking this way."

"Probably from something dangerous, we can not tell apart from the way they sprint." Madison explains, rubbing her chin as she crouches and wanders over. That is until she is yanked backwards by a unrecognised hand and is forced to run to a fallen tree log. She furrows her eyebrows and unlinks herself from the hand.

Madison was surely confused, of course she notices the Gallimimuses sprinting past her in all directions but took no attention. They were swerving around her after all. "Why are you running?"

She says, hands holding her hips as she see's them crawl over the top of the big branch. Waiting for them to all jump up before they returned to hide behind it, crouched to see the sight.

Her eyes widens evidently when Rexy sprints through, ambushing the herd and locking its jaw around one feeble Gallimimus.

"I believe running that way, was a very obvious mistake made." Madison hums. Watching the three in front of her watch the way it eats.

"I want to go now." Lex utters.

"Just look how it eats." Alan speaks, awe-stricken at the way the Tyrannosaurus rex was feasting on the long legged animal.

"Please." Lex almost whimpers from where she crouches beside Alan.

Alan, not having heard the girl continues to stare and watch him curiously. "I bet you'll never look at birds the same way again."

Tim nods in agreement. "Yes."

"Go now." Lex tugs his sleeve. The male now acknowledges her pleads and nods, turning to nudge Tim towards them.

"Okay. Keep low and follow me." Alan tells them, beginning to crawl away while Madison reaches a still Tim.

Tim whispers, "Look how much blood." He squeals quietly when he was picked up and tossed over the aunt's left shoulder. Her casually walking away.

"Not the time to get the children traumatised."

Madison, Alan, Lex, and Tim emerge from the jungle. They now stand at the base of the Electric Fence. In their eyes, it appears to be at least thirty feet high.

Feeling a sense of cautiousness, Alan approaches the tall electric fence with a singular branch. He throws it against the electric fence, but it bounces off harmlessly.

"I guess that means the power's off." Alan sighs heavily. Receiving a dead-panned look from the girl.

"Well no shit." She responds.

"No swearing in front of the kids." Alan points a blaming finger in the direction of the female.

"You allowed them to witness Rexy completely feasting on a blood soaked Gallimimus, I think they'll be fine." Madison wanders forward and has Alan jump onto the fence carefully. And stupidly he grabs the fence and suddenly begins shaking and screaming.

The children screams and hide their faces away into their clothes, Madison rolls her eyes at his childish actions. "I would love some burnt Alan Grant, would be great food if I transform into a velociraptor or something." Madison hums. The man, soon quickly stops and turns to the trio with a wicked and amused grin.

"That's not funny." Lex groans, unamused.

Tim was the opposite, beginning to snort loudly. "That was great!"

"Or maybe we could-" Alantries to pull the power-lines apart to make room to crawl through, but they won't budge.

Suddenly, the sound of the T-Rex roaring is heard behind them. The kids quickly scramble for the electric fence and start climbing. Madison hanging back to make sure they successfully climb over.

Lex grins and looks down at her brother, "I bet I could climb over to the other side before you could even get to the top."

"What would you give me?" Tim asks curiously.

Lex looks back down while climbing higher. "Respect."

"Come on, guys, it's not a race." Alan sighs, going after them until he looks to Madison. She was busy watching them before she cracks her neck and steps back. Jogging in her spot.

Adter a few moments, the first three reaches the very top. "Good. Here we go. Over the top. Take your time. Good. Come on. Find your footing. Find your footing."

"Are you coming Madison!?" Lex shouts out a loud question towards the girl who nods, her feet where what carries her as she sprints forward. Jumping up and attaching herself onto the wires she uses to pull herself up.

"I was always going to follow my dear." Madison smiles, reaching through the face to gently pat the girls cheek before pulling her arm back and continue her hike.

Alan and Lex were already on the ground when they found Madison usher the young Timmy boy up.

"I- I can't, Maddy." Timmy whispers. Eyes scrunching close as they reach the very top. The purple and pink headed girl stays by his side. After a few thought filled moments, she climbs closer.

"Get on my back."he opens his eyes when he hears the females voice.

"What?" He responds, eyes darting all over his aunts face.

"Get onto my back, we don't have much time Timmy." Madison grabs his wrist and just then the sirens go off. Indicating it was about to turn on.

"Get down now!" Lex screams at her aunt and brother, watching the boy slowly grab ahold of his aunts clothes. Trying his best to get onto her back.

"You're gonna have to jump!" Alan shouts up, them watching Madison crawl over the top. Hand gripping the jacket of Timmy tightly.

Just then. The bottom sparks and Madison immediately tossed Timmy to the ground, having him be caught into Alan's arms while she transforms with a puff of grey smoke.

"Madison!" Lex screams with Timmy. All watching as it is wafted away to show a pterodactyl flapping their wings. Clothes attached to the body. Boots falling to the ground as the creature swoops down to the ground. Shaking their head and they land, towering the group.

"Maddy?" Alan calls the girl, hearing the creature squawk.

"Well then, let's get back with the others huh?"
